Suicide seems to make the BB Bench easier on my shoulders. I think it puts my elbows in a better position for the lift.

For pain relief, Accu is a personal favorite. It was the ONE THING, that "temporarily" relieved my sciatica, when I incurred a slip disc. I believe it was the chiro's and natural process that eventually "healed" me, but the Accu brought COMPLETE relief, at least for 3 hours and it was WORTH IT!

To answer, no, but there is an endocrinologist in the office

P.S. May or may not still be interning there, there is potential for better offers, but I start my semester next week, so thats cutting it close.

Originally from Glendora, then moved to La Verne. I have been at La Verne a lot. My "usual" workout partner lives out in Upland, which is where I've most frequented until lately. Now I workout with my little brother a lot, which is cool, I need to be spending more time with him anyway before he goes off to UC Irvine.

P.S. I was at the Barnes & Nobles' Starbucks studying last night, near your 24hr fitness in Glendora.
good deal. yeah la verne for all 20 years for me. same house. went to holy name of mary in san dimas k-8, then damien high school.
uci still has a good amount of time til they start. all the UCs except berkeley start late sept like cal poly. whats your bro majoring in?

and that starbucks/B&N is where i get my MD every month. usually go hang out there with my gf after we lift. what are you studying for?

He was toggling between Civil Engineering and Computer Science and he went with Computer Science. I've still got a good month with him before he leaves for school, so, I'll try to make the most of it.

He's really into Power Metal, so I'm taking him and his friends to see some band called, Nightwish or something? Anyway, still waiting on the Blue GENE to get in, hopefully next week.

The only exercise I use suicide grip on is BB rows. Other than that, I just grab the bar naturally which involves thumb

I got a good story for you guys... relevant even.

I went out with my buddy last night to wingman for his ass... and the bar had one of those drunko punch meter things with a speed bag that pops down. Of course some drunk kids started playing it while I was finishing up a game of pool, then my buddy decides to tell the drunk asses that I punch people for kicks...

Anyway, my first punch I hit like 930 out of 1000 even though this thing does NOT measure punch power... its a technique thing where you punch through and up (which is not how a proper punch is thrown) - so there were drunk kids punching it and getting pretty close to my score, and then of course they start talkin massive amounts of sh*t - so I decide to really give it a good whack, and I end up catching my thumb on the bag somehow and really *ucking it up.

So long story short - I'm using suicide grip for a few days... :(

No one laughed, because I still hit it hard enough with my thumb to get like 820... Then I covered up the pain while the b*tch swelled up over the next 30 minutes.

Even if they did laugh, I wouldn't do sh*t because I wouldn't have been able to hit them with that hand!... Would have been all jabs and hooks - which I could probably crush 95% of barfighters with anyway I suppose - especially when they are drunk, and I'm completely sober.

After seeing so many bb'ers wearing his gear it was a no brainer.
Mike sponsors quite a few good boxers as well... Wondering if he'll ever venture into the MMA Arena. Few more years of this success, and I think he probably will pick a few elite guys. The sponsorship in MMA is absolute crap - paying a guy 1500 bucks a fight to paste "CONDOMDEPOT<.>COM" on their asses...

Nice pic Roland. Pro Bodybuilders don't look THAT big on Flex magazine and other muscle mags, because everyone in there is big. Its only when they stand next to civilians can you appreciate how damn hulky and ripped they are.

Heath is one of my favorites, his arms are outrageous.

Broski, let me know if he ever needs help with any of it. I was Comp Sci @ UCI, I just graduated. It's a challenging area of study, even for the most gifted of students. I was actually an official student ambassador and all that for the school, so if he ever needs anything I can hook it up, I know all the counselors, the dean, all that good **** hehe.

Is he in to lifting at all? If so he is going to love our fitness facility, it was p1mp before and we just remodeled it and expanded the free weight section by 10k square feet. You should come check it out too, we could have a lifting sesh :head:

Anyway, excited for you to start the Blue Gene. I ordered some White Flood, but I see that are having a major discount on JP8 @ Nutra so I just ordered some of that too, gonna flip a coin to see which one to try first and log it. I'll keep you posted.

It's Official!

I took the last of my CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) exams today and I passed! I used today's 2.5 hour exam as an excuse to carbo load for "brain food." I had two pancakes, hashbrowns, two english muffins and two eggs for breakfast (with some AP though), then strategically sipped on some coffee to sharpen mental acuity, while avoiding a crash mid-test.

With that said, I'm not technically official until the NSCA receives my degree, but I'll be a last semester senior fully accredited with official CSCS credentials, but cannot officially practice as one until post graduation. Most people wait until post-graduation to take it (if they choose to take this route), but you're allowed to attempt the test as a senior and I passed the first exam last semester and put the nail in the coffin today.

Good stuff

Thanks bro. I saw your campus when I picked him up after his overnight orientation. UC Irvine is a fricken City in of itself!

I'm glad to hear you guys have a good gym facility. He's only started working out with me this summer and he's in love with the iron. He's much, much skinnier then I am. I think he weighs 148lbs at 5'10, so compared to me, you wouldn't think we shared the same genes, but being so thin, the smallest little gains show up a lot. He's stoked about his delts showing definition and he's got little golf balls for bi's now, which he never had before, so I guess I'm helping him establish a foundation now. Hopefully he'll learn all he needs to in order to continue at UC Irvine without my guidance.

Thanks for the helpful offer to lend an advising hand if need be.

Geez, I finally made it through the thread. :)

First off, congrats to you, Volcom.

Second, hope your back gets better soon. I messed up my back about 8 years ago (slipped disc, slipped vertebrae, and a fracture in my lower lumbar) so I know what that's all about. Back pain and sciatica suck.

Also, maybe it's the masochist in me, but I love those painful massages. I always feel so good afterwards. Maybe not during, but afterwards. Ok, fine, maybe I like it during too...

Now if you'll excuse me, all this food talk I had to endure a few pages back has got me hungry as hell. Thank God I'm bulking!! :D

Very nice. The most I ever pulled was 610 so I know how happy you are right now!! Congrats!! But wouldn't it be easier to just pull it from the floor in the first place? I don't think I've ever seen someone take it off the rack and back out with it like that! Your way is much harder I would wager!!

I'm catching up to my fellow brethren, awesome $hit !!! I don't think I'll aim for 610, but 635 lbs, rather ! Those quarters are just too tempting to pile on there, on top of 6 plates each side.

How da hardcore training going for ya nowadays, Thunder ?!

In my experience pulling directly from the floor is quite a bit harder then walking it back off the rack. Its essentially not a "dead" weight lift as it gives your muscles that load prior to the lift.

I'm certainly not taking ANYTHING away from Vike's pull. That was some great stuff.

Viking, sick video! I'm not sure I could have walked with it, after expending all my energy pulling it! Let's not forget Viking is 6 feet plus, which adds to the overall impressiveness of heavy deads.

In case some of you are new to my logs and wondering why he's posting his own vids here. It's just like that. As long as I know who you are, "mi thread, su thread." I like sharing struggles and accomplishments at the gym, so the invitation is universal, if you vid yourself doing something extraordinary or something you're proud of performance wise, feel free to share it here, its welcomed and I'm all about giving props and encouragement for your efforts.

Of course not all of us are as strong as Viking (myself included), so you don't need a minimum 605 deads to feel your vid is welcomed. Still waiting on Big Casino's dead lift vids.

Nice to have you back from vacation Viking

You are correct sir. Generating that force for the initial lift off the floor is usually one of the hardest parts of the movement, but at the same time, you could say that walking it out like that places more TUT on the muscles, even if in this case that initial TUT is beneficial in prepping them for the weight. Like you said though, at the the end of the day a rep is a rep, and from the floor or from a walk-out 605lbs is 605lbs, and 605lbs is damn heavy :head:

The nice thing about starting from the rack though, when dealing with that many 45s on each side, it is a pain in the ass to have the barbell laying on the floor and have to slide each of those on, they go on so much easier resting it on the rack like that.

Yeah man I hear ya. Maybe this is an obvious trick but a good way to load a bar that is sitting on the floor is grab one of the 2.5lb weights (if your gym has them). Put it flat on the floor on one side of the barbell and prop up the first 45lb plate on it. It gives you that inch of clearance you need to easily slide on the other 45's.

That's what I do, it can still be a pain, cause sometimes you roll however many wheels you have on and for some reason, the plates aren't pushed all the way against the outside edge of the bar, but whatever works.

I saw on some Johnny Jackson Deadlift video, where one guy had this contraption that was used kind of like a dolley. To bad more gyms didn't have that!
