Damn thats intense. Some hardcore dedication right there. Did it relieve any lumber pain?
It doesn't relieve pain immediately, it takes a day or two. If anything, it temporarily induces more pain. It's part of the healing process I guess.

Internship Jitters

As "SOME" of you know, I have an internship at a Chiropractic Center, under a Japanese Chiro (who I struggle to understand when he speaks), nicest guy in the world, honestly, but my ears haven't tuned to his accent yet. Also, he speaks Japanese to his heavily Japanese based clientele.

Today, I went to have a face to face and discussion over my internship specs and I went in very confident and left a bit nervous. I'm getting a sneaky feeling that he may be throwing responsibilities my way that I'm not trained or ready for. He turns from nicest guy in the world, to down to business in 1.2 seconds. We had a long conversation in his office and I nodded a lot, but I don't know how much I really caught.

Anyway, my internship starts next week. I think I'll make use of my availability to spine alignments.

Wish me luck guys, School, Law Firm, Chiro Intern, Whoop'n Arse in the gym with my Blue GENES on. It's going to be a gangster final semester.

Btw, I was looking online last night and it looks like I might have some minor scoliosis. I fit most of the symptoms - one shoulder higher than the other, one shoulder blade sticks out more than the other, one hip looks higher than the other. Only thing is when I bend over no side of my back looks higher than the other - which is the way you are supposed to check for scoliosis. So I dont know. Looks like I gotta go see a chiro now.

Scoliosis is a (flexion or hyper-extension) curvature of the spine (if I recall), one side of your shoulder wouldn't necessarily look higher then the other, IT COULD, but generally, a forward protrusion of your torso would be more apparent. Like a natural lean forward, most predominantly in the thoracic region.

I would have it checked out just because if it concerns you.

Dude, ya, get that crap checked out. My grandmother has that, and after decades of not treating it correctly, she's shrunk about 7 inches. No exageration. Got to the Chiropractor!

Chiro's are really chill, and a Manipulation shouldn't cost more then $35-$40 cash, per treatment, unless you have insurance that covers it. If you did, I'd be down there every other day just because.

Hey I'm in insurance.. just so you know, it's that kind of thinking that drives premiums up for everybody, people don't understand that. That's why the days of having full benefits, with $0 or like $5 co-pays, are long dead & gone.

Just thought I'd throw that tidbit out there.. I listen daily to folks b!tching about how high their premiums are, and everyone hates insurance companies. I do too, but there is a reason things are the way they are today..

Since you're in the business, just out of mere curiosity, whats your views on Canada's socialized medical care system vs ours? Do you think we're doing okay with our system? Or do you think Canada's system is the most beneficial? This isn't a question of national pride or politics, just strictly from an insurance business in correlation with our societies point of view; as you have an intimate perspective.

Relevant Update

I will attempt to provide a heavy bench video tonight as a pre-cycle measurement of strength, to replace my heavy deads eval, due to (potential) prolonged lumbar sprain.

Also, my Chiropractic Center internship is currently in an ambiguous state. I have begun to contact other Rehab Centers and Hospitals to replace this gig.

Yeah, just be careful the first time you take the leap of faith. Try them as the first exercise in your chest workout the first time to avoid taking your chin off... Of course i speak from experience.

I highly recommend weighted dips. I love the high repetition dips, too, but the weight dips seem to draw more force to be produced by the pecs.

How long have I been training? Well, I take that as a mixed question. There's total time of training, and there's, knowing what the heck I'm doing training. On the latter note, I seem to reach a new "AHA!" every semester. I've been training many years. Knowing what I'm doing, meaning training with efficiency and intent, supported by some form of knowledge base beyond broscience, 4-5 years, really knowing what I'm doing, via experience, reading, implementing bodybuilding theories, probably 2-3 years, really, REALLY knowing what I'm doing, based off of academic science, probably about 2 solid years. Something like that.

I highly recommend them. You'd be REALLY surprised how hard you can actually push and handle. Dip weight sort of moves in a progression like Deads, in that, the next set's weight can be profoundly increased, yet performed with a good succession of multiple reps.

My usual sets would go something like, Plate, Plate Quarter, Two Plates, Two Plates and a Dime, Two Plates and a Quarter. I don't usually go Three Plates, but I have for like 4-5 reps.

I just got my measurements taken.

- All measurements were done without apparel obstruction.
- All measurements were done in a muscle relaxed state, EXCEPT for one, which I will specify.

I'll provide measurements in inches and centimeters, for our international friends like Jakellpet.

Current Weight: 214lbs or 97.27kg

Neck: 15.5 inch or 39.37cm

I don't understand this neck measurement thing. I don't see this number changing too drastically. It doesn't measure trap size, hypertrophy doesn't really occur at the insertion points at the base of the occipital region. The only perceivable muscles on the "neck" are the sternocleidomastoids (fancy word), those two muscles running from base of your jaw to your clavicle.

Upper Arm (bi's & tri's): 15 inches or 38.1cm

Upper Arm (Flexed): 18 1/4 inches or 46.35cm

Lower Arm (forearms): 12 3/4 inches or 32.38cm

Chest (beneath arms): 44 inches or 111.76cm

Chest (around delts): 52 inches or 132.08cm

Upper Leg (Quads & Hams): 23 inches 58.42cm

Lower Leg (Calves): 16.5 inches or 41.91cm

Waist: 36 3/4 inches or 93.34cm
Crikey - you've got some guns on you mate - thanks for the conversions . No wonder you're throwing those DBs around like kittens.

Very nice on the strength eval btw.. looks like you had more than 7 in ya!

As to what I think of socialized healthcare, not a fan. It's not a practical solution for many reasons, and definitely is not something you want our government running. The best model of socialized healthcare platform actually exists in Europe. Canada's is a mixed success - you see a lot of doctors coming south to the U.S. to practice medicine, because their government caps their earnings & dictates wages. They can make a TON more $ here. So, if the best doctors are leaving the country, what's that leave for the rest of the population to utilize? Substandard healthcare of course. Not good..

Our system here is very imperfect and needs some modifications, there is no doubt. But the quality of healthcare in the U.S. is much better than anywhere else (with the possible exception of China)..

You've got FLEX Magazine shots of yourself my friend. With your much leaner frame, you should see more physiological transformation then I will. My log is heavily performance based, but I'm going to guess that "GENERALLY" people are more interested in aesthetics then performance, after all, this is a BODYBUILDING site, so you've got a heads up on that end, bud

That's the weird thing with me though. People also mis-spot me, in that they're usually very late in assisting dire situations, because I can be cranking out the reps like a piston, then suddenly, hit a cast iron wall, and I can't do jack. Just like my dips, I looked rather strong on the first 10 reps, but then I had NOTHING, to even fight through an 11th. My muscles go from 100% to 0% in a strangely fast manner.

Had that been a normal set where I would have accepted some spots, I would have gone for two more, but not solo, and its not by lack of effort. I specialize in pushing through the last reps, but I could tell another attempt would have required a spot, and not counted as MY REP.

Originally from Glendora, then moved to La Verne. I have been at La Verne a lot. My "usual" workout partner lives out in Upland, which is where I've most frequented until lately. Now I workout with my little brother a lot, which is cool, I need to be spending more time with him anyway before he goes off to UC Irvine.

P.S. I was at the Barnes & Nobles' Starbucks studying last night, near your 24hr fitness in Glendora.

I bench like that too Sam, always have. That grip's natural to me. Wrapping my thumb around has always felt awkward and uncomfortable.

People freak out about dropping the bar on their melons, and maybe in the beginning stages of bb'ing it's advisable form, but I'm sure w/ an experienced chap like yourself has no fears..

Yeah, I heard it called Suicide Grip recently and liked it so I've been using it ever since.

The videos that I've seen of people dropping it on them were when people were trying a 1 RM.

In strongman, one of the events is sometimes axle clean and press. An axle is a 2'' thick barbell. A lot of people switch to suicide grip for the press because of the thickness. I tried it but didn't like it personally. It seems really crazy to me on an explosive press like a push press or push jerk where disasters can happen quickly and want more control for balancing.

I suicide grip for reverse curls, too. It seems to force greater contraction by the forearm extensors and not as awkward on the wrist.

Agreed, agreed and agreed on all the suggested exercises utilizing Suicide grip. I do those too.

My workout partner uses Suicide grip for pull ups like Timberlaker, but I can't do that. Pull ups are difficult for me so I need to fully utilize the strength in my extensors and flexors to hang on.
