Volcom's Sponsored, Controlled Lab's NEW, BLUE GROWTH log w/video

In other words do it for a short time and get it out of the way :dunno: I just HATE cardio that is the ONLY thing I hate about working out.

Sort of. My idea of short is about 3 months tops. I'm not looking to model underwear, just keeping the gut in check. Historically, I don't have a lot of success with long, drawn out recomps per se. I'm a natural fat ass, and a moderate cut to my diet, regardless whether the caloric math adds up or not, does nothing for me. I have to diet pretty hard to lose weight. I know I want lose anything significant unless I really amp up my cardio. I don't think I'll be hitting cardio too hard, because I really want to hang on to as much muscle as possible, but I'll be doing some and I've ordered a grip of BCAA's to buffer as much catabolism as possible.

When I was single, I loved cardio because I was obsessed with putang attracting six packs. Being married, I'm like, what the fek for? So I'm going to do my best. Luckily for me, the wife is in the diet with me and she has a strange fascination with broccoli, which serves her well. I don't share that same fascination.

More than a lb or two, you're doing good. I'll be watching, and lending moral support from afar. Don't mind the noise, that's me working my way through a whole bag of rice cakes. :D:D:D

lol. Common carbs like breads or even rice isn't to hard of a sacrifice. My kryptonite are noodles. I'd eat myself to death if the noodle bowl was big enough.

Like a fish. If the food is there eat it, until you die!

Fasted cardio in the morning. 20-30mins. Don't get too worried about the catabolic thing. Destroying muscle isn't as easy as people say it is, especially for your body type.

What do you mean, "your body type?"

J/k, I agree and that would be ideal. I'll just have to make it happen.

Oh yeah and I did lift this morning and I'll be lifting again tonight. I took a week off because my low back was jacked. I still felt it being agitated from the straightening out of the torso from lat pull downs. Due to my low back problem, my back workout this morning was primarily vertical resistance movements.

BlueGROWTH. I'm feeling more & more refreshed. For awhile I felt fatigued all the time and needed to nap one or TWO times a day just to make it to 5pm, but I haven't needed a mid-day/lunch time nap for a good week now. I've also been off of my Formadrol/T-911 for about a week too, so I'm running solo on the BG at this point, short of some BCAA's that should be arriving. According to other people, I'm looking "bough." I think its fat, but whatever, I don't know if BG causes bloating, not in a bad way, but a filling out look, cause thats how I feel and what people are saying.

One Arm HS Pull Downs
70lbs x 12 reps
80lbs x 10 reps
90lbs x 10 reps
100lbs x 8 reps
100lbs x 6 reps

Behind The Neck, HS Pull Downs
140lbs x 10 reps
160lbs x 10 reps
180lbs x 8 reps
200lbs x 6 reps
200lbs x 5 reps

Behind The Neck, HS Pull Downs, Vertical Grip
140lbs x 10 reps
160lbs x 10 reps
180lbs x 8 reps

Machine, Close, Parallel Grip Pull Downs
150lbs x 10 reps
170lbs x 10 reps
190lbs x 8 reps
190lbs x 6 reps

Nothing extraordinary today. It's my rowing days where I pull anything impressive. This was more of an aesthetic based lat workout, as oppose to a "back" workout. But, you work with what you got. I can't really bend or put pressure on my lumbar at the moment, so it was a pull down clinic today. I also can't dead lift or do off the ground lifts (Oly Snatch or Oly Cleans), which sucks a salty sack, but I'm grateful for what I can do, which is everything else.

killin those lats i see nice bro

Interesting about the bough observation. I haven't seen or heard about anything like that with BGH, but everyone reacts differently... most people I talk to, they notice are more vascular in the morning after taking BGH the night before. Have you noticed this at all ?

SECOND PM WORKOUT: CHEST

The strangest thing today. I took a week off from the gym and this morning I get two or three people making comments about my size then when I went into the gym after work, my workout partner who hasn't seen me in about two weeks says I looked thicker and another guy said I look like I'm leaning down, that my V-taper is more apparent. The thickness makes sense, I'm probably just filled out to hell from my see-food diet, but the leaning out comment was cool, but I don't know. Anyway, this morning is day 2 of my cut and I'm about to have my second meal.

This was last nights chest workout. Dusty is working through a tweaked left shoulder, so we didn't push-push, though we certainly gave it real effort.

Flat Bench
225lbs x 5 reps
235lbs x 5 reps
245lbs x 5 reps
255lbs x 5 reps
265lbs x 5 reps

We were easing his shoulders back into the thick of things, so we progressed in 5's as oppose to 10's, which we'll do next week.

Incline Bench
185lbs x 5 reps
195lbs x 5 reps
205lbs x 5 reps
215lbs x 5 reps
225lbs x 5 reps

Flat Reverse Grip Bench super-set to Close Grip Bench
Reverse 185lbs x 5 reps s-s Close x 5 reps
Reverse 185lbs x 5 reps s-s Close x 5 reps
Reverse 185lbs x 5 reps s-s Close x 5 reps

Incline Uber Wide Grip
185lbs x 5 reps

185lbs x 5 reps

Machine, One Arm Flies
225lbs x 10 reps each arm
225lbs x 10 reps each arm
225lbs x 10 reps each arm

My chest is outrageously sore this morning, which is the best reward for a job well done.

killin those lats i see nice bro

Surprisingly, they're not sore. I don't usually get taxed to the point of soreness unless I'm doing rowing motions.

Interesting about the bough observation. I haven't seen or heard about anything like that with BGH, but everyone reacts differently... most people I talk to, they notice are more vascular in the morning after taking BGH the night before. Have you noticed this at all ?

Quite frankly, I'm too "thick" at the moment to experience any notable vascularity. I don't start to see vascularity until sub 200lbs. I have thick bacon skin too, so even when I'm lean, I only have the courtesy forearm vein that runs behind the forearms and the ones that run across the biceps. I don't ever get a nice brood of snakes running down the arm look.

man Vol you have great pulling numbers!!!

Thank AG. Honestly, this was probably 80% of what I usually do, I just hadn't done these in a short enough while where my strength on these had declined.

I had 12 hard boiled egg whites for my 4th meal. My stomach is feeling kinda off. I can routinely eat 12 scrambled eggs, but hard boiled egg whites is feeling funky in my gut. Not to mention brutal to eat! BLEH!

So we did some re-carpeting at our firm these past couple of days and in that process, we had to move our office completely out and back in. Throughout the moving and rearranging process, we threw some things out here & there. Out dated Law Books, etc... In front of our building are some large dumpsters. We have been placing our junk in say dumpster C, given there are dumpsters A, B, C, D, E.

Apparently, we have been placing our office junk in the wrong dumpster, so the manager of another business, who owns dumpster C, came out last night, literally dumpster dives and throws all of our stuff out and around the dumpster, the street and surrounding premises, so all of our stuff with our logo is spread out everywhere. Then the bitch calls the cops and says that's our trash, which it technically was, though she's the one who threw it all back out, however, it was also true that it was not our dumpster she says she found our trash in and around, so a sheriff came into our office and said, either go pick up the trash (that's been thrown out of the dumpster and spread around the premises) or get cited.

So this morning I spent the better half re-picking up trash and moving it over to the proper dumpster (in my work clothes). This crazy bitch also left a bunch of messages on our voicemail with you mother****er this you mother****er that.

Didn't start my day off with a smile.
So you find her car pop the hood and stash dog **** in the cabin intake vent so when her ac or heat turns on WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SMELL???? :newbie:

I thought that was the case with me because when I was leaner when younger I wasn't vascular but once I gained weight then lost it again and suddenly vascular... Go figure.

I feel u on the lower back. I pulled my hip running and I couldn't even take a sh*t right. crazy spasms and numbness I was like "WTF, I always run...I'm a docking running machine".

seriously I said this. then 1 day, poof gone. weird.

LOL. You're my favorite nice guy with a conjoining serious dark side. Kind of like myself.

That would be better then Christmas morning. I love vascularity. The two main things I never cared whether girls liked it or not, because I knew they didn't, were large effing traps and snake veins. I've only ever quasi accomplished one of those goals with my socially acceptable traps size.

I'll keep clicking my heels three times and wishing it goes away. I have back coming up this Friday with my workout partner and I really want to hit some rows of some kind.

Due to my inability to bend down and pull anything off the floor, I had to derail my Olympic Snatches and start & stick with Hang Snatches last night.

HANG SNATCH
95lbs x 5 reps
100lbs x 5 reps
110lbs x 5 reps
120lbs x 3 reps
120lbs x 3 reps

HANG CLEANS
135lbs x 5 reps
155lbs x 5 reps
175lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 2 reps
185lbs x 2 reps

POWER UPRIGHT ROWS
135lbs x 5 reps
155lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 3 reps
185lbs x 3 reps

SHOULDER JERK PRESS
95lbs x 1
(my shoulder stability felt too shaky with just our warm up set, so I felt it'd be wiser to opt out of these today)

Shoulder Jerk Press FAIL!

SHRUGS
225lbs x 10 reps
275lbs x 10 reps
315lbs x 8 reps
315lbs x 8 reps

Seated Military Press [at this point, my delts & traps were DONE!]
135lbs x 5 reps x 5 sets
(I couldn't believe how heavy this felt at this point. I was expecting my usual 10 reps, when the first rep felt like a house).

This morning my traps feel like someone went to town on them with a bat. Not as low down the traps like how it feels when they'e sore from dead lifts, but right at the very peak of them, which is uncommon and cool for me.

Day 3 of my cut and I'm down from 217 to 215.5, which means my glycogen stores have hallowed a touch from my 40g of carbs a day diet so far. I haven't started doing cardio "yet," but I intend to move in that direction once my cutting discipline sinks in more & more.

I'm really enjoying the BlueGrowth as far as my recovery is concerned. I'm much less lethargic throughout the day and for whatever reason, people seem to think I'm growing.

Chicks dig my huge traps and freaky veinage!!!:boobies: :naughty: :hump:

You gonna break out the tried and true ECA stack for this cut big V?

You gonna break out the tried and true ECA stack for this cut big V?

Nope, not this time. I'm trying to go without an appetite suppressant for the time being. Cutting foods are less then desirable to my pallet, unless you put a lot of effort into the meal and when I'm on any appetite suppressants, especially ECA, it's too enduring to eat the "good foods." I may get into some stims once I'm at 200 and I want to take it further, but I should be able to drop the first 15lbs stim free.

Speaking of which, my name is Samuel and I am a stimaholic, this is my 21st day stim-free. Four more days I'll get my first 25 days stim-free chip.

CARDIO BLAST!

So after 1.5 years of zero cardio, I jumped into one of those 60 min cycling classes, I also put my bike in the front so I couldn't bitch out and half ass anything. I was pumped about getting back into the swing of all things cutting, when 5 min into the class I had sweat drops on the ground. I had sweat beads coming down my nose. Not the generic sweat that builds on the forehead and side of the face, but beads down the nose and onto the ground sweat. This was also a no carb day, short of carbs from vegetables. I did finish like a champ, but afterward, it looked like I went swimming with my shirt on.

Yah that's what happens to me every time..

Yah that's what happens to me every time..

I'm actually considering going again tonight. I was sipping on USPLabs new Modern BCAA during the class. Having taken BCAA in its bulk form from Nutra before, I could still taste that raw BCAA taste, but the Modern BCAA's flavoring did a pretty good job covering it up.

lol 1.5 years of zero cardio...how long u been married!!!!

modernbcaas taste pretty good, I dig it. it's not something a non lifter would enjoy but it's pretty tasty. I killed a 40oz of bc's ( modern bcaa's) and it was weird because I literally drank it all within 20 min of my workout.

rest day today for me, I pulled deads for the first time today with straps and a belt :approve:

Oh yeah? I'd imagine you felt some kind of improvement using straps and a belt. It's shocking to me how much energy is exerted raw gripping the bar.

Back in the day, when I had my bulk BCAA's, I'd keep the bucket in my trunk, after my workout I'd buy some fruity protein shake, scoop two mean scoops of BCAA's in my mouth dry, then take a drink of my protein, swish it around and swallow. I also did this with a bulk L-Leucine before and it literally tasted like a mouthful of salt. I inhaled once with a mouth full of powder and damn near choked to death.

Been married 10 months now, but I stopped doing cardio long before that. I might even say I hadn't done real cardio in 2 years.

yea bro, weights felt kind of fake. I got 535 easy.

HAH, easy the man says, but yeah, straps make a world of difference. As far as relative strength goes (weight lifted relative to BW), your dead lifts are VERY top tier. For your bodyweight, I think you have competition level raw strength in the deads. You and Tom both.

Yah I was a 500 lb deader with straps .. but without well we'll see where I land 405 for 5 is my current target.

I can't pull anything off the floor at the moment. Last I dead lifted legitimately with respectable weight was probably 4 months ago. I could pull 405 for 4-5 no wraps no belt, but I've only ever tried 500lbs once and hit it twice with belt and wraps (and Moheekan buzz cut & facial war paint). I don't know if my back will ever be reliable enough to go over 500lbs. Which is why I O-lift now. I liked having a "main thing."

Dang I didnt see that either :eek5:

Well right now I am in the asian group who eats brown rice... its just not the same as Jasmine rice :(

I don't think Texas has a Trader Joes  but Trader Joes has a Pasta Made from Brown Rice. I can't stand wheat pasta, it has a real funky taste and texture to me, but the Trader Joes Pasta Made from Brown Rice is actually really good. No "wheat flavor," the bran isn't tough at all, its good stuff.

I actually like Brown Rice, but at the moment, that's a bit high on the glycemic index for me. I'm trying to keep my carbs coming primarily from oats, spinach, broccoli and other low sugar fruits & vegetables. The "worst" thing I'm eating now is my daily banana (no homo). It's a starchy fruit, but I try to keep my morning oatmeal interesting with sliced bananas. I have to keep my diet as cost effective as possible, so more expensive ish like blueberries are I don't know. We're currently living ghetto.

Dietary Question

I had a question about re-loading and I know DW has some unique approaches to the carb factors in a cut. Generally speaking, I have had success with a low, low carb diet and I do lose weight, but I think where I mis-step, is that when I'm in a cut and am in carb Nazi mode, its a bit of a psychological warfare to have a high carb intake day, though I understand why it would be necessary for a bodybuilder. I've always followed a every 10th day cheat day where I eat what I want to an extent, is that the most effective thing I should be doing? Or should I still eat clean on that cheat day, meaning keeping my carbs compelx, but just uber high, like 300-400g. I'm currently doing 14 carbs from oats and the rest from low glycemic vegetables and I don't really count those. My protein intake is way up, but not so much as to create a hyper-caloric situation. This seems to work for me, historically, I guess my real question is in regards to the refeed day. Am I allowed fatty ish and simple sugars? Or am I keeping it complex?

Me and carbs right now, I'm little Mac.

I did that 60 min cycling class again.... AFTER legs. It started off pretty bad, but it ended up alright. I'm not sure that I wouldn't do it again.

OVERHEAD SQUATS
95lbs x 5 reps x 5 sets

FRONT SQUATS
185lbs x 5 reps
205lbs x 5 reps x 5 sets

60 min cycling.

My leg days aren't as voluminous as most, but I'm not as concerned with getting them to hypertrophy as I am with stimulating the neural adaptions associated primarily with strength.

Off to my final meal/post workout of protein, oatmeal and a spoon full of natty peanut butter. I have chicken I can cook, but I'm too exhausted, so I'll deal with the 14g of carbs from the oatmeal (and a few from the natty peanut butter).

Speaking of which, my name is Samuel and I am a stimaholic, this is my 21st day stim-free. Four more days I'll get my first 25 days stim-free chip.

Good for you Samuel. :clap2:
By the way, my name is Jeff. And I'm a recovering stimaholic as well. I've been off the stims (ephedrine, yohimbine, etc) for almost a year!! Only 2 cups of coffee each day.
Natural energy levels are higher than ever.

Monday i was 217, this morning I woke up at 213.5, which means I've probably depleted most of the junk that hadn't completely converted to adipose yet and I'm pretty dry. In that quick 3.5lbs drop, MAYBE 1lb of that was fat, MAYBE, but from here on out I should be shedding real adipose. I can average 2-3lbs a week if I cut real hard, but I don't know that I want to do it that fast. However, I am sipping on an 8:1:1 ratio BCAA during every lifting and cardio bout at this point for augmented preservation.

BIG BAD BACK

Killer workout. I was drenched from the first exercise. People are making comments about me looking leaner, but I'm sure it's the radical drop in water from my 120min of cardio out of nowhere in the past two days.

Seems like a fair amount of us here on AM are cutting right now. It's a bit out of season, but in my case at least, it's necessary.

The idea of supported bb rows intrigues me. I've been on a Pendlay row bender, but I may have to try those for some extra isolation.

Mulletsoldier first suggested them to me when he found out about my lame lumbar issues. Just be sure you have one of those incline benches that are bolted down, otherwise you'll endo. Or have someone step on the front floor panel of the incline to hold you from front tipping over. Apart from the isolation, IF moving from deads to BB rows is too much on your low back, the incline bench is a good alternative to save your back.

Last time I did back where rowing was involved and the incline benches were full, I leaned over the preacher bench, flat side and did rows. I set the preacher at its lowest position, leaned over the flat side and did my rows.

My cut timing is a bit off. I generally cut during the summer or right before like everyone else, but the cutting bug never bit during those seasons this year. I didn't catch it until this past Monday and walla. I found it too hard to go through the disciplines and desires of a cut as a newly wed, but I've come back to my senses and my see-food diet is over. Sad but sane times.

quick breakdown of your see food diet? :deal:

My see food diet was I see it, I eat it. Now, it's a bowl of oats in the morning, approx 14g of complex carbs and the rest from veggies. Although, there 6 grams of carbs in a serving of peanuts apparently, so that would add 12 more to my daily count and the additional 4-6grams of carbs in a serving of natty peanut butter. Protein is high of course, but not too, too high, as I am trying to create a hypo-caloric atmosphere.
