Friendly Over Head DB Triceps Ext. Challenge...

I haven't went that high, should see what my max is.

BW+45 10sets of 10 next week

Depending on how my shoulder is reacting that day, I can usually get BW+130x12-15.

Ive done BW+165x8 in the past. But its a pain in the azz trying to put a 45lb plate and a 120lb DB on the chain lol.

DB rows would be a good contest, same for BW + weighted dips. Question on something for DB rows though. I was on elitefts and found Kroc Rows (Invalid Link Removed). I've started doing these instead of normal DB rows. Any impressions on the Kroc rows? I asked someone at the gym and he said he didn't know and he just "stuck to the basics" :P Would like to know if I'm just wasting my time or if they're as good as normal DB rows. I like doing them much more, but if I'm wasting time I'll go back to normal DB rows.

They look like cheated rows. I don't think they target your back as much as regular rows due to the jerking motion/slanted standing. I would just stick with regular because I know it works.

Check this log out! Emartin is getting lonely and needs some motivation!!!

Used the 130lb DB (highest my gym has) today after I did my shoulder workout. Was able to get 130x31. Thing was my tris weren't super tired, but my damn shoulders got real tired! lol

Ding ding ding I think we have a winner o.O

Awaiting vid then ^_^

So, has it been decided what the next contest should be? Only things I've seen mentioned were weighted dips, weighted pull-ups and DB rows. Just to throw other things out there: Cable crunches? T-bar rows? BB calf raises (this would be interesting)? Bent over BB rows? Just to mention some random ones.

leg press? :)

Single leg press would prolly be a good one. I am guessing a lot of people would run out of room for two legs though. I run outta room at my gym(although I couldn't go much higher anyway, but I am guessing some of these guys would be in the 800s+).

Yeah, I'm at 11 plates a side if I do leg press before squats, which is all it will hold. I hit 800 after doing squats :)

Geez, nice :)

I haven't done 2 legs for awhile, but was able to get around 450x4 single leg. I should go back to two legs tomorrow and see what I can put up. Just need to take a good battle crap first, would hate to have a... "mishap" :P

I vote military press but thats mostly cuz Im good at them

In that case, then I would vote that we do it "Pro-Day" style-- reps on the 225 pound bench press.

....I told you guys I was going to catch up....and im running full sprint

Today:

(Had to use the barbell since i only have 120lb dumbells)
95x5
135x5
155x1

Moving on up....Now just gotta keep getting stronger

Weight 188.8(weighed post workout)

Nice :)

Bench is my weakest lift :( I can bring in my tiny numbers and shoot for 9th or 10th place I suppose :P

Hell, that's impressive...most I've ever done was 38, and that was several years ago, and afterwards, my chest was pumped for HOURS. I mean I probably needed a "D" cup...not sure I could do that many now, even with the strength increase on Natadrol....talk to me when I've done D-bol and Test-E. :deal:

I dont want to hear none of this settling talk...you shoot for NUMBER 1!! If your not shooting for the top it isnt as fun....

haha dam! 38!! Now I gotta shoot for 40!! muahaha. But the pump you get from repping out on bench is like none other....the only pump thats better is repping out on squat. Now that's a PUMP!!

I guess we have to wait till u get back on cycle to see some new PR's?

Actually, D-bol and Test-E would be my FIRST-EVER REAL CYCLE. Trying to plan this for the winter, with help from you guys. I wanna do it right and keep most of the gains. I'm salivating just thinking about it.

Good luck with that buddy...I have to admit i am quite ignorant when it comes to androgenic cycles. But there is a whole lot of knowledge on this forum that im sure you can tap into and find the smartest and most effective way to run your cycle.

man the numbers are getting sick in here!!! I stuck with the DB since they go to 150 here
120x5
140x4 (PR)
100x20
Going up to the 150 DB next week. I wish my sleep and diet were better... stupid army training!!!! lol

Muahaha looks like you and I are neck and neck....i gotta step it up next week

I am on my way up there guys. One more bench mark down. 110x10 @195 lbs, almost got 11 but had to call it quits when i couldn't qite clear the crown of my head with the bottom of the DB. We shall see I think next week I will hit 120 and see what kind of reps I can pull. I am betting on hmmmm 10! Again yeah, I said it. I think I can go up 10 lbs and still hit 10 reps. I must!

I like the idea of all the competitions coming out of this. I can't believe some of the numbers in here. Holy Crap! On top of that how big some of you guys are astonishes me. I will keep on moving on up though don't you worry.

Brother o hope you kill that 120!!!! Agree with you on some of the numbers being posted..... sick my friend

ROM isn't the greatest, but if I go any farther down, **** rips up my shoulder, and IMO isn't good for the rotators

Hate to say it man, but I wouldn't have counted any of those as an actual rep. Too little ROM.

No offense.

Reduce the weight, do some external rotations, get those rotators good and strong and dip deep. :)
I feel ya but like I said, any further and it's too hard on the rotators, especially with that much weight.

I've definitely tried that. Did physical therapy for over 2 years strengthening and stretching them...still nothing. Just my constant struggle with them I guess.

Then do it with a weight that allows proper ROM. I can load up 600lb in the power cage and do 1/4 squats all day, but it's not as good as a full squat for overall activation and development.

I do full ROM dips with ~120-135 for 3-5 right now, depending on the day. No shoulder problems whatsoever. I realize you weigh a good 30lb more than me, but I think if you focus on your form and do some good shoulder health accessories (band face-pulls, external rotations, rear delt raises, etc.) you'll get there.

Edit: just saw your other post. If you have chronic rotator issues, maybe dips aren't the best movement for you? Tried JM Press or CGBP?

That's why I don't do dips hardly ever lol. I think my issue is more flexibility more than anything. Even at just BW it's hard and painful for me to go very deep. Hopefully one day all the ancillary stuff I do for them will actually pay off and they'll get better, but so far not much luck

Was a little short but then again have you seen the ROM Ronnie Coleman trains with? His dips would probably be about the same ROM. I think if hypertrophy is the only goal you might be fine. Either way partial reps or not that was pretty impressive for that many reps at your body weight with 125 on the belt.

UNC, next time try doing BW dips but bring your knees out infront of you. It forces you to stay upright and seems to take alot of pressure off the top/front of the shoulder joint. See if it helps..does for me.

I was just going to post about ronnie coleman lol. That dude uses HUGE weight with weak ROM, and gets great results. Then you look at a guy like Lee Priest who uses light weights and good ROM and looks damn good too. I think genetics might have a huge role there, but I consistently get advice to shorten my ROM from my boss. I like to do full ROM while I;m young though lol.

I did my dips today, no video since our internet is too slow to upload on YT, I get fail messages every time.

BW+45lbs for 95 reps (sets of 10) I do it by a mirror so I can check my rom, I go down til my arms hit 90. Straight legs also, pinching the weight so it doesn't swing

Definitely give this a whirl next time, thanks bro

Yeah this also transfers the weight to your triceps instead of shoulders and chest. There is a guy at our gym does dips with his legs extended in front of him doing flutter kicks the whole time he is dipping. Pretty impressive.

So my most recent effort to add: 90x10 reps. Nothing impressive but added reps and weight so this TestoPro is definitely helping ;).

I was just looking at those online. Which grip do you use? Seems like a cross between a dip and a crossover. This guy I was talking about kept his body perfectly upright and his hips straigh down from his shoulders keeping a close grip and elbows behind him. So it was almost pure tricep. I wonder about those now and may have to try them.

Sounds similar to gironda dips - another great variation for when you want to target your chest.

I never tried the old Vince Gironda dips before. They looked to be brutal. But very chest/pec orientated. Almost like isolation dips.

what do you guys think of the HS dip machine, the one that you have to strap in when you go heavy. I used one a few days ago and it felt much better on the elbows than the weighted dips... had 8 plates on the crazy thing, and the pump was unreal

For G. Dips I invert my hands, so my palms face out and away from each other. My hand then go on the inside of the bars with fingers wrapping to the outside. I'd strap up with a plate, stick my legs straight out in front of me and flare my elbows like a struttin' pea****.

Definitely harder on the chest. A normal dip with a good load can be felt all over the upper body - I love watching BW's traps and upper back when she's dipping heavy because they have to flex and stabilize quite a bit.

i must google these dips in a bit, i love dips

Toss 'em in a chest workout, but expect to go lighter that with a normal dip.
