1980-stationed on uss new orleans lph-11 based out of san diego. bunch of us decided to go to the alice cooper concert at jack murphy stadium. the warm up band was some band no one had heard of-ac/dc.
everyone was drinking beer and toking, just killing time till alice came on-ac/dc wasn't on 2 minutes until they had everyones attention-killer concert, next day we all went looking for ac/dc albums. been a fan every since.

still dig alice though-'schools out' was a song everyone who was growing up then could relate to.

my favorite albums went with me when i joined the navy, and have stayed close every since-my cards and comics were thought of as junk, and mom threw them out, lol. i could retire on what those cards and comics would be worth today.:whiner:

i have all the beatles albums in very good shape along with bob dylan, elvis, led zepplin, rolling stones, bruce springstein, all those guys....the white album is the one that is cherished most but my favorites are the steppin wolf and cream albums...also have a turn table i guess u'd call it to still play them all on

man, put that turntable away-those albums are way to valuable. i never play my originals anymore. btw my 70's stereo system was garrard turntable/pioneer amp and tuner w/bose 901 speakers added after i went to italy in the navy. that gear f'ing rocked. i still have the 901 speakers-best investment i ever made.

Not gone just hibernated long enough for the economy to crash, and them to run out of money and get back in the studio. If only that would happen we could get new STP music. Oh wait IT DID!!! They played the new song from them on the Buzz here in Houston last week. The album is not done yet but the first completed song is. If they can just keep ol crazy boy from melting down.

Here is the new STP song if you wanna listen.

I had to go back and listen again I couldn't remeber too much of it. Sounds very Tom Petty in some areas. I hope the do have harder driving power chords and what not on the cd too though. You know what got STP big in the first place.

Perhaps no other artists in recent times has been able to shock the world of hip hop and rap in a way that a young man from Detroit has, Marshall Mathers. Growing up in the slums of detroit, it took persistence for a poor dishwasher with a dream, overcoming the odds of gaining respect in a culture very much defined by color, to grow to a household name in the world of hip hop.

In what could very well be documented as the mind of the criminally insane, Eminem has varied in the subject of his music from his desire to kill his wife, to his deep love for his daughter, from his regretable past to his fight with parental groups who fight him for his offensive lyrics.

Recalling his earliest work, Infinite, which was released on an independent label, Eminem recalled, "Obviously, I was young and influenced by other artists, and I got a lot of feedback saying that I sounded like Nas and AZ. 'Infinite' was me trying to figure out how I wanted my rap style to be, how I wanted to sound on the mic and present myself. It was a growing stage. I felt like 'Infinite' was like a demo that just got pressed up."

His rise to fame skyrocketed after the highly controversial release of the Slim Shady LP, to many fans arguably his biggest reflection of his true style. The album was, according to Billboard, "light years ahead of the material he had been writing beforehand".

Beyond that point, Eminem has been the subject of numerous discussions, concerning being homophobic, beef with Insane Clown Posse, Mariah Carey, George Bush, and others. His albums have continually been chart toppers.

Many can sing along to
My name is....
but only one can state
I'm Slim Shady

i don't touch the turn table..or the records...my father will play them however...he doesn't care to much about the "value" of things...thats the music he loves so he'll listen to the stuff no matter what...can't really stop him and if i tell him they r worth something, he says what value is something just sitting on a shelf...might as well take the music coming from the speakers as the value

Now that is paying homeage right there. I don't care if you like rap or not, the presentation, wording and thought that went into that post was impressive. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

you tell your dad a big f'ing A from me. i respect that very much-those are the values we had as youth in my generation-before we grew old and sold out to the dollar.

You nailed it with the Tom Petty similarity. Weiland had a nice fling with Velvet Revolver but I miss the hard riffs of STP.

Early Eminem was classic...Marshall Mathers LP being my favorite, even had my parents rocking it out back in the day

I don't even want to think about all the LP's and 45s I have lost, even worse destroyed playing frisbee with. Well not so much frisbee the goal was to get the records to explode when they hit whatever they were thrown at. Little did i know I was destroying history at the time, but then it was more interesting to see things blow up or shatter into a bunch of peices. Man I was a destructive little fugger!

On top of that I had the strongest will... Punishment had no meaning to me but more stuff to prove I could take and continue doing what I wanted too. Not real sure how I made it out of childhood alive. I would have killed me and fed me to the snapping turtles.

the idea of the youth movement of the 70's was putting values and morals above the dollar.

it seems that today whatever you do is justified if the money is big enough. the youth of my generation sold out- i hold my generation responsible for the mess we are in, we have become twice as greedy as our parents ever thought of being.

I only work to make money to pay bills and live. I don't strive to or search for ways to work more to chase the dollar. I have never gotten my first kiss from a dollar and my knees go weak. I have never made love to a dollar, nor have I asked one for advice.
Due to these things I can actually say I love my life.

sorry, i was generalizing.

No reason to apologize BigT I was making a statement agreeing with your stance regarding money changing the values of society. Basically saying it is my nature to go against the grain regarding money and that I get value from life and not money, and that keeps me happy as a person. Kind of like back in the day when love, integrity, and respect were more sought after than dollars. Not like now where if the price is right anything goes.

Man I love some disco, lol The entire Donna Summer "On the radio" album was the bees knees! I have always had an ecclectic taste for most things though including music. On top of the many great bands in this thread, I Love me some Simon and Garfunkle. A lil Hank Williams Jr. Heck Motley Crue which I haven't seen here and anyone in my age bracket should have sSO MANY FOND MEMORIES their songs must bring back. I am just all over the place.

Well in May we will see if thye have any of the older style on there. CREED's new music is awesome they went right back to the formula that made them rock and I love it. They so fugging kicked ass in concert this summer too!

I'm loving their new stuff. Scott Stapp brings a much better presence to their music. The song Overcome rocks!! I am like you with music Kleen. I can run the full genre list any day of the week. The Crew is a big one on my favs as is Van Halen...not Van Hagar. Hell, Beyonce rings my bell too. It's meant to invoke a reaction so whatever floats your boat is awesome in my mind.

One of my favorite sayings:
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give"

honorable mention goes to ronnie spector, natalie merchant, stevie nicks and my favorite miss chaka khan. man chaka was soo hot back in the day-my johnson still goes on full alert when i hear 'tell me something good' or 'i feel for you'. if she had better material i think chaka would have been a mega star.

Alright, here's what's going to happen from here: the reps/athletes are going to converse and give out their top 3 picks. From there, the picks will be weighted (3 points for 1st, 2 for 2nd, and 1 for 3rd). The overall winner will come from the final point total and, in the case of a tie, the most 1st place votes will be the tie-breaker.

My wife makes fun of me b/c I like the acoustic Natalie Merchant "Because the Night," lol...

...she also makes fun of me when I listen to "We Didn't Start the Fire" :silly:

Thanks for all of the entries guys and good luck!
