inter-racial relationships

I was wondering if anyone here is now, or has been in a inter-racial relationship? I am a "white guy" and have a date coming up with a black woman and wonder if anyone's experienced racism from such a relationship. I really don't care what color people are, oddly enough, I feel more comfortable around black people than I do white people. I grew up around quite a few blacks, that's probably why.

im asian and grew up in a predominantly white and hispanic cities so all my relationships been interracial
i don't think nothing of it

My wife is a different race than me; no worries from my end. I think the people that focus on things of this nature to be unintelligent, and not worth my time. By that comment, I mean people who tight-cast you because of some old ass belief that races should not mix. I mean come on, my damn dog is more purebred than anyone that I've ever meet. WTF is a purebred human? There's NO such thing.

My ex was black, but we did get it from both sides, my parents being from the "old school" and his family disliking it as well........I personally dont care, and it's not why it ended, but I admit it was challenging while we dated, 2+ years...........But It was worth it.............

Good luck :)

I am a dog racist. There is no way in hell I would let Kong breed with an impure dog!

I'm a white guy. I dated a black girl in college for a little while. Caught some sideways glances from some of the black dudes on campus, but it never went beyond that. Wasn't really a big deal at all.

lenoxchi - just be yourself and do what you want. The folks that would give you a hard time are actually doing you a favor. They're revealing themselves as people who are clearly not worth your time.

mulletsolider - Roxy is pure bully here!

I dated a black girl for a while, and my wife is hispanic. Never really noticed or cared what peoples skin colors were, and never really cared what other people thought either.

I've only ran into a couple situations of hostility and I live in a pretty rural state where you might expect it more often. For the most part I think society is now accepting of these relationships. At least the younger generations.

thanks to all. i am not worried about it. if people (whatever color) have a problem, that's to bad for them. besides this is just a date not much more......dinner and convo.

It's sad that people judge you because of your relationship choices. There's a guy here that really let me down in this department. I will refrain from saying his name, but he basically said that he does not agree with my, " mingling ," and feels as if I let him down. WTF? Seriously, I've been cool with this guy since I joined here, and I've even sent him free supplements to try out (4 total bottles of various IBE products). I am a bit disgusted by his email (external); he said that he is removing me from his friends list, as well as his IM contacts. I am being 100% honest. How f*cked up is that? There again, I will refrain from saying whom this is because I know it will cause some drama. Everything was cool when he thought he was chatting with Joe White. Xenophobia is strong with this one.
Seriously, I'm shocked.

These statements are semi-contradictory.

You have some unease, of course, but the cause is not clear. However, you either don't care what color someone is, and are thereby equally comfortable around all races, or you treat and act differently.

There's inter-racial, then there's inter-cultural issues. My ex- was Greek. Greek/Irish to be exact. I got a little flack over that . . but Ive never been one to let other peoples opinions cloud my judgement, so fk them.

Now our children are a real mongrel breed. Lets see: greek-irish-new zealand-australian-scottish-cornish-welsh (might be some spanish in there too) But god-dayem are the handsome

i hear ya. in more detail....i do feel more comfortable around certain people, but do not hold hated or pre-judge someone because of race. just because i've been say, screwed over by a person from a specific country or something like that, i do not feel that someone from that same country will do the same.

my girlfriend is black and indian (super hot) she has 2 children from a prior relationship (black guy) i have had my car vandelized many times. hes called cps said i was beating them cps came over seen this was a lie.but she(white lady) told my girl i was useing her cause no white guy would ever want a black woman.the ex tells the children they are not to play with white kids. they get sent home with messages that hes gonna shoot me. if this isnt enuf every time we see some guys with there pants around there knees they say racist stuff about me thinkin in black or shes must think shes white it goes on till i head for them to choke one of em then they scatter. or they walk by and say white boy tryin to get murderd. yea good times. i have had to get a permit to carry a gun. oh one time we went into mcdonalds to get some food with the kids were in line and six black guys surround us and ask her if she thinks its hot when guys fight over a girl and there all giving me the im gonna kill u cracker look. i have endless storys like these

Post of the day! Couldn't agree more. My wife and I have had to deal with it. I described her the other day as half-Vietnamese, half-Chinese, born in Hong Kong and raised in southern California... which means she's a culturally confused Asian chick who says "like" a lot!

I took her to Alabama once. That was interesting. My parents couldn't care less one way or another, but we definitely got some looks. Her family sees it as a bit of an upgrade of sorts, but they'd sh#t themselves if she were with a black dude. When it comes to racism, Asians can be just as fierce as redneck southerners! Then again, can't most people?

My wife is a ginger.

I just deleted you from my friends list. Disgusting.

No... no, no.. please... that's quite enough.:icon16:

My wife is Mexican and I am so white as to be almost clear. We live in rural Ohio and our 3 kids have only rarely ever encountered any overt racism, I can't remember it ever being an issue for my wife or I.

That's funny you say that... I've reconnected with some old high school friends over the past year via Facebook. Some of them have names like Gonzales and Lopez, and are clearly Mexican-American. I have to tell you though, I always thought of them as white kids when we were growing up. It wasn't until I got to California that I began to differentiate like that. In Alabama, it seems you were either white or your were black... and then there were only 3-4 Asians in my entire high school of over 1,000 students.

I would imagine it being somewhat similar, albeit perhaps not as extreme, in rural Ohio. I could be wrong.

yea i basically only date inter-racially.
I'm Aussie but my parents are from Sri Lanka. While I think Sri lanka is an awesome place, I have little to nothing in common with the culture there.. plus, i'm just physically more attracted to caucasian women than to the darker skinned women. It's a pure physical thing like how some are attracted to skinny women, some to curvy etc.

I can imagine in America, there might be some hostility with black-white relationships due to history. But people who're opposed to it just lack in respect and assimilation with their society.

and like Jakellpet was saying, culture is more important

Been all around the cultural and racial neighborhoods :) Light hearted jokes and such but never had anyone come out and tell me off or anything. BTW, those jokes were from people I knew and never a stranger.

Well I am half white and half chinese and live in an Air Force town so a fair amount of diversity. I have never really seen myself as chinese or asian because I dont associate with many. Growing up had mostly white friends and some black friends. My best friend growing up was half white half black. We were like brothers back then. My interest is in white women. I am just not physically or culturally attracted to asian women.

I'm a light skinned black guy from the South (see the basketball player Tashaun Prince or the singer Chris Brown for an example of my skin tone) and I have to say that there's absolutely no race of woman that I am not attracted to. Black, white, native american, asian, latin, indian, or any great mix... I will date any girl I find attractive. Why would I limit myself to certain races? F THAT! Never really had any problems in public because I treat everyone with the same respect... male and female, regardless of race, and I approach everyone I meet or see with a genuine smile. Also probably helps that no one can quite place what race I am and I've gotten the question more than once from females!

Do what feels right to you though.

Damn mcssassin... I feel sorry for the experiences you've had. Is it really like that up in Michigan? Wow.

ever been to Michigan? It's like red-neck heaven up there. Michigan makes Wisconsin look timid. Why do you think eminem is so mad:laugh2:

My live in GF is black. Most of my Ex's have been black. Im Sicilian/Italian by the way. Ive always been attracted to either mixed, spanish or black chicks.

Enjoy the date.

Ok, it's stereotype time, so I'll ask for forgiveness in advance if this is totally off! Everyone tells me that Italian families typically object strongly with dating outside of their race (particularly with dating a black person). How true is this? I know a girl who is Sicilian/Italian and while she dates interracially, I've heard from her friends that her parents are strongly against it.

No you are right on the money I think my kids are perceived to be white kids, my son does not look even remotely hispanic although my daughters definitely do.

Haha, that's generally how I feel and I think it's pretty accurate!

In a lot of cases the more you move away from traditional families you see less issues with mix relationships(race, culture, religion).

In a lot of cases the more you move away from traditional families you see less issues with mix relationships(race, culture, religion).

A lot depends on the efforts of the individual families to assimilate as well, and reveals quite a bit of their own cultural biases.

Living in San Diego, I have pretty much been subjected to a melting pot of races and religions my entire life. I have dated a girl from probably every "race", Caucasian, African-American, Latina, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Pacific Islander. I have never found that the color of my skin has mattered, or the color of their skin has mattered. If a family realizes that you genuinely care about one of their own, most will accept you.

I have found many more problems with parents/families of girls that I have dated that have different theological views than my own. I find that people are much less accepting of differing views than differing looks. It's especially hard in some circumstances to explain that I am agnostic and don't particularly care for organized religion, not that I have any problems with others being into religion, just I have been told by more than one parent/grandparent (grandparents always seem the most prejudiced or accepting (depending on which way their attitudes sway) to me) that I was: "on a one way road to hell and that I wouldn't be dragging their daughter with me." Needless to say I was pretty shocked at that comment.

But as far as race goes, I have never had any issues in my entire lifetime.

Again, I live in Southern California, one of the most liberal places in this country... so it might be a little different in the bible belt than here.

I have a dream...

As a point of clarification they know of and are proud of their Mexican heritage. Where I live there are no minorities I remember my wife having a conversation with one of my daughters friends parents and their surprise when my said that she was the first generation of her family born here in America, they didn't see her as Mexican even though she clearly is. Same with my kids, they are not viewed as Mexican.

Ya that ad is the 1 I have gotten everytime I have looked at this thread but then this time it is just a reg dating site this time.
