The Lean Gains / IF learning and Discussion Log

That's why I love me some hunting. $65 dollars to have my deer processed. Got 87 lbs of meet off of it and it wasn't a large bodied deer. Looking to get one more for harvest to load up the deep freezer. Mmmmm, venison steaks anyone?
yea broski, ill send you my addy

Ha. I usually have to give some away. Freezer only has do much room

Here is some yummy protein fluff I made today. This is the nicest yet.

Frozen pineapple and casein. A tiny drop of milk and perfect in ten minutes

Is that really all they charged you? $65? I mean was that to process the entire dear... little ground meat here, venison sausages here, some back flank and steaks here a rump roast there, etc. Or was that just to clean it and hand you all the clean cut meat?

Process it into the different cuts. I had the back straps and one hind quarter cut into steaks. The other hind quarter cut into jerkey slices, and the rest ground with their Lite spice blend.

I wish I got 85lbs from one deer! My processing fee near me is $60 but that only includes cutting steaks and grounding up the rest. Sausage etc is more per lb.

It was a mature doe. Can't get better than that for the freezer. I usually only go after the big boys but usually take a nice doe too. They are better eating. Next on the list: wild hog. Just have to find a place with healthy ones and not "dirty" ones. I'd love to have some loin and chops to throw in the smoker. Too bad there aren't wild chickens, I'd have a hay day!

Some people don't like the taste of deer or wild animal. Usually it's just in their head. If you know how to cook it right it doesn't get any fresher than being lucky enough to harvest it yourself.

Well thank God for lean gains... I went into the holiday about 3 lbs heavier than I wanted. I knew it would be tough but I exteded all my fasts to around 5pm and ate lots of protein. I added a lot of cardio as I knew I was away from the gym for a week and low and behold I actually was able toi take off about 4 lbs so I am right where I planned to be.

It didn't go as well for me, but lean gains allowed from gaining any more body fat through the holidays even with a dirty diet and zero cardio, so I can't complain

My diet has been pretty bad the last two months but I have been able to keep my weight in check thanks to Lean Gains. I have never been this successful at maintaining after a contest. I am up less than 10 lbs from contest weight. Now that I have weathered the storm I will start watching my intake again and should have a pretty easy time this year with 40 less lbs to lose.... Most of it will be just recomp...

I came back from this weekend 3 lbs heavier than I was a month ago and 1 day later I'm 7 lbs lighter... hahaha fasted eating always allows me to bounce back from a rough weekend.

Between my training and my diet regime... I've managed to workout for a month and lose approximately 3-4 lbs on the scale which is nothing for me normally but I look bigger and leaner... normally I always focus way to much on cutting while trying to put on size and lately all I've been doing is eating and working out... for once in my life I decided I wasnt going to worry about the scale and it seems to be doing wondering with my regime

BY THE FRICKEN WAY! I FORGOT TO TELL YOU GUYS! Back in August I think it was... when I decided to first start a Lean Gains style diet... I went and got my blood tests done. My doctor did not like when I told him how I was eating... hes the traditional 5-6 times a day no more than 500 cals plus snacks kind of guy... (im going to see if I can find my chart quick with my numbers). Anyways I went in 2010 because as a 25 year old male I figured I should start getting my blood tests just to stay on top of any potential problems. My glucose came back at 100 which he told me was pre-diabetic and he wanted to potentially put my on some meds to keep that in check. My response was that I didn't want to be dependent on meds and that I would lose weight and come back. So I came back this august (not really any lighter but a bit leaner from doing lean gains for a month or so)

08/2010 Numbers - 08/2011 Numbers
Glucose: 100 - 77 (-23 points!)
Cholesterol: 152 - 139
Triglyceride: 56 - 26 (Apparently this number is very low most likely to my use of fish oil)
HDL: 55 - 61
Calc LDL: 86 - 72
Calc Non HDL: 97 - 78

So as you can see... While it might not be all Lean Gains helping me... it definitely was a large part of dropping my blood sugar not only in to normal numbers but dropping 23 fxcking points! Not to mention all of my numbers went down with the exception of HDL which went up 6 points. And the doc said I have "beautiful" Cholesterol haha

LEAN GAINS = Amazing if you ask me

Anyone else notice that after a couple weeks or months on LeanGains its so fxckin easy to stay fasting. When I first started I would have trouble with being hungry by like 9am when my break fast was at noon... now I can easily break my fast at 1-2pm and start it back up 6-9pm which means im going 18+ hours fasted some days

Yep the difficulty for me lasted about 3 weeks but even now it's much simpler than it was a couple months ago. It just keeps on getting easier.

my bodys rhythm is perfect.

When i tell it to be hungry i lietterally get hungry.

if i dont think about being hungry ill never want to eat.

For those who do fairly low calorie burn days on their non-training days with no carbs except veggies....how is your strength the following day say if you have a big lift day, maybe 1 rep maxing deads or squats?

Mine is fine. **** I was low carbing daily, with very low calories, and carbs on low days and moderate on WO days(80-100). A friend hit me up on an off day, to train, after I trained the day before and I pulled a 500lb DL.

So, do all you guys carb cycle like recommended?
Or do you just eat plenty of everything every day?

Many of you enjoying the protein fluff?

Well I was doing good carb cycling etc and what not until the holidays... Christmas, New Years, Texans playoff game day, Wifes Bday today... I have totally been eating like a fatty on the weekends for 3 wks in a row and I'm supposed to be cutting. I have a few ideas of why I'm going into bing mode so hopefully I can bring it together and get back on track...

When I was doing the carb/calorie cycling like Martin outlined it was working great and I'd be a lot further along if I would stick to it 100% I'm sure. Such a fatty... /sadface

I am the same. I hate carbs on training day and love fat hahaha.

So i do find it hard.

But as time goes on I get a bit better at cycling. Tho, my body is changing dramatically with the way I'm eating, I still have my beers at weekend, but I know I could do a lot better if I tidied it up a bit.

One thing I am good with is my 8 hour eating window, getting in fruit and veggies and making sure I get in my session in the gym.

Man you have to enjoy the xmas. Whats life without all the good times.

i see that bcaa's are the right choice but can i use my american iso protien as a substitute? im almost outa bcaa's so i wont be able to grab anymore till next month

So I switched from CKD to IF with a 40/35/25 pro/carb/fat macro ratio; I find the fasting portion very easy, but during the fed portion (1400-2200 for me) I'm INCREDIBLY tired. I'm talking nodding off in my chair at work tired.

Reintroduction of carbs? Wrong macro ratios? My carbs are clean (no refined sugar aside from lactose in milk), so I'm not sure wtf the issue is. Ideas?

Like after pigging out on ThanksGiving!!

Seriously though the same happens to me. I just think after fasting all day and then eating so much in that 8 hour window your body gets too full and needs a nap.imo

Its probably that simple, too. I've never eaten an entire day's worth of food in a few hours, so the effects of carbs are likely more pronounced than I'm accustomed to.

I'm a textbook overthinker.

the tiredness of overfeeding comes from a rise in leptin.

Leptin usually rises and then peaks 2-3 hours after you are sleeping. your spiking leptin prematurely. id have the carbs in the later meal and less carbs in the early meal.

As long as you are either at or under your caloric maintence level this shouldnt effect weight loss.

try and keep meal 2-3 hours pre bed as well.

This should help

If I wasn't on Tapatalk, I'd rep this like a mofo. Great information, thanks!

kretz, thanks for the reps

hope everyones doing well this week! been doing LG keto style for a while with just 2 meals

48% protein and 48% fat, give or take a little.

i MAY change it up to see how it goes..

50g protein for meal 1 with 75-80g fat (will be hard without oil)

then every couple hours have a 50g protein shake or some protein (totaling another 150g), then last meal 50g protein, and another 75 g fat

This way even though when you are eating less then 100g carbs and ketones block gluconeogenesis, the conversion factor (52% i believe) of protein will be used as glucose. Not sure if this only applys when starting the ketogenic diet or after a refeed, however, i would like to know if way to much protein at once, even on no carbs will toss you out of ketosis. its speculated, not proven.

Hi all,
Looking to start LG and can't wait, a few questions I was hoping some of you could help me out with though.

-My main goal is fat loss at the moment, what amount of calories should I be going for in relation to my maintenance level
-Difference in calories on lifting vs cardio vs rest days?
-Macro's on lifting vs cardio vs rest days?

That about covers it I think....if anyone could chime in it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

IMO when starting any diet I like to start high and adjust based on results. Unless you know your TRUE maintainace it is a crap shoot. So I would say start at the recommended recomp calories(+20/-20%) and then adjust downward as needed to focus more on fat loss.
-Difference in calories on lifting vs cardio vs rest days?
See above.
-Macro's on lifting vs cardio vs rest days?
This is individual. Knowing nothing about you, I can't even begin to spit out recommendations.

Some people like SS go keto, I typically go low carb on off, still fairly low on training, some people go higher.. You will need to just pick a target and roll with it for a while.

I just joined an mma gym last night and will be training 3-4 nights a week plus 1-3 sessions on the weekend at various times. I'm really looking forward to the experience, but I now feel forced to reevaluate my LG schedule.

Here is an example of my current schedule (can change due to work etc):
5am-11am: BCAA's every 2hrs (@work)
12pm: meal 1 = big portion of daily calories (@work)
2pm-4pm: snack if I desire (@work)
5-6:30pm: weights/cardio
7pm-8pm: remainder of daily calories (PWO + huge meal) (@home)

My mma training now falls during my main meal at night. It will be from 7-9pm at the longest. There are actually 2 classes back to back so I can choose to do 1 or 2 each night. I'm wondering if I should move my window to maybe 2pm to 10pm or adopt more of a warrior diet approach and just have 1 big meal after training with little snacks throughout the day so I'm not so worried about fitting into my window every day. I'm looking forward to any suggestions and ideas you guys might have. Thanks.

Thanks a lot, that helps. I have a desk job but I workout after work every weekday so I still put my activity level as lightly active. It gives me 1800 calories on rest days and 2400 on workout days. I did a 25/75, 75/25 spilt for carbs/fat on rest/workout days. I guess I'll just have to pick a starting point and see how my body reacts and go from there. Only so much calculating you can do before you just gotta start doing it.

Thanks guys.

Does anyone here do zero carbs on their off days? I'm thinking of doing about a 60/40 split for off days and a 40/40/20 on training days, with a calories down to 1600 on off days and up to 2500 on training, i'm 216lbs right now, anyone have any experience with this? Ipamorelin+mod grf 1-29 will be run before empty stomach cardio on off days and all lifting will be done fasted (with 10g's bcaa) and again peptides before hand, also going to do igf-1 post-workout on training days, going to switch to 3 days lifting. Main goal is fatloss, does my plan look too drastic? How about the macro's?

Use the link on the page before this and it will give you a good starting point for your questions. Then adjust as needed.
