Well, general labs can't do dick as far as insulin resistance is concerned. I'm not sure if any of the more advanced ones can really confirm it, but most of what I read just suggests that it is determined if you have risk factors (e.g. are you overweight, do you not exercise, etc.). For example, I've had normal insulin readings and glucose tolerance tests showing up normally, but I"m actually having a 5-hour glucose tolerance/insulin response test done. Haven't researched that one too heavily, though I know it's just a matter of checking fasting numbers for both glucose and insulin, then having a glucose drink (last one I had was 75g for the 2-hour) and then checking numbers again on the hour for each.
And an insulin tolerance test is actually what I'm trying to get, which is one of the measures for growth hormone deficiency (others are various provocation tests using arginine, glucagon, etc.).
Sounds like I need to do some research....
