Separating the Men From the Boys... The Deadlift Competiton

HaHa I am more like Vinny, as Snookie said it is like trying to put a watermelon through a pin hole. OHHHHHHHHH! LOL Besides i don't think that Situation dead lifts, would surprise me.

I put money down saying he doesnt even know what a deadlift is

Friday this coming week I'm looking to add a 10spot to my current PR. I need to set up the mental game between now & then. It's been awhile since my last PR, so it should be interesting!:footinmouth:

Hitsquaddd/raw grip/19/5'10/185/520/WEIGHT TO DL RATIO - you do the math.

video may be posted when my digi cam is fixed if anyone's interested.

i clearly didn't read any of the guidelines for this, sorry lol. i guess this whole DL competition has been over for awhile...

oh i see lol. well, hopefully this can start back up. i'd love to post a video of my DL in a month or so. i plan to hit 530lbs by then, this'd help motivate me and my ego -.- btw is that a picture of kimchi in your avatar? lol

I know I hope it restarts back up. Honestly I might go back and restart it. The OP has been MIA I think so none of the numbers have been updated or been kept track of.

Haha yes it is kimchi. Any chance u r Asian?

2.81 is ur ratio... I hope u r not Asian other wise u have failed us all.

Reporting back as promised; I didn't add the 10spot I originally set out for (bitched out), but added 5lbs to my current PR. So not such a big deal after all. I think I mentally talked myself out of it. I did end up with a profuse nose bleed, which seems to be happening alot here lately.

Well I certainly think that 5lbs on top of a previous PR is a big deal. Once you get to a certain level, the big jumps are hard to come by. You have to settle with the small gains here and there and keep inching forward.

Well done Neck!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Thanks TG, It wasn't the goal I had in my mind, but your 100% right.

I agree well done my man! I actually hit up a little high rep deads yesterday to break back in my shoulder. 315x10 and 365x8 raw grip no pain in shoulder after nice full body work out. Feeling pretty confident that the Alflutop did me some good. I may opt for one more round of it here shortly but we will see.

Been quite in this thread, what's shakin guys?

Nm I think my next workout for back will have some deadlifts involved. Wont be too heavy though. Will be at the end of my workout so my numbers will suck. Plus 2 monthes without pulling should be interesting.

I pulled 455 lbs. for 12 reps yesterday. Used my Versa-Gripps.......of course. lol
A full gram of Test-Enanthate weekly doesn't hurt matters either. ha ha

Slight rest-pause between reps 10, 11, and 12. Just long enough to suck up some air and go again.

I love the feel of heavy ass weights. :aargh4::twisted:

very nice lifts man.

Reaggravated my lower back again  I could barely walk this weekend from my erector spinae inflammation. I may need to stick around 315 for reps of 10 for a month before I can start going heavy again.

You know what, that's what I'll do for awhile. End of the workout deads, that why i don't over-exert myself.

Deadlift was my specialty lift back in the day. My old workout partners called me "Dr. Deadlift."
And you know how I roll with the higher than normal reps. It's what I do. Power plus persistence!!

Don't stop til you drop!!

I'd better not post my numbers or I'll negatively skew our score. AM does have some mean dead lifters. The strongest dead lifter on this board isn't even here. Kabuki competes raw and pulls for 700lbs for 10 reps or something. I don't even know what his max is.

this was a few months ago, and i was going to enter a WNPF competition and like the month before the competition i was doing shrugs(only at 315) and my balls started aching really bad and didnt stop for like 4 days. i knew i had a hernia so i went to my doc and he confirmed bilateral inguinal hernias. i had surgery the first time when i was a little kid for just one side, but it broke back open and so did the other side. its just sh1t genetics and happens to all the guys in my family. ill probably never be able to go heavy again in my life and it depressed the hell out of me. but my other lifts were terrible, squat 355 was my all time max and bench 250 lol

That sucks bro. I had a slip disc at L3 and I haven't been able to go over 455 in years. What's worse, I reaggravate my lumbar 5-6 times a year from deads kind of randomly. I just reaggravated my low back again last Friday on 365's :dunno: Wasn't heavy at all, 365 is still part of the warm up phase and my low back got strained to the point where I had difficulty wakling.

That's about my only limitation, but it sucks that it happens to be my favorite lift.

That reminds me of something that Dave Tate said, "People don't focus enough during a warm-up. More people get hurt during warm-ups than max lifts"

mm, i know all about that. it took a month to schedule surgery and like a week before going in i was doing some machine stuff at the gym and my buddies were deadlifting and i was trying to show off... went to 495 with no warmup... got 3/4 up to the top and my lower back popped and my legs went numb and had that strange "pin and needle" feeling. i didnt go to the doctor because my parents were already mad they had to pay for surgery on the hernias and they didnt want me powerlifting anymore. but i think i pinched my sciatic nerve or have a messed up disc in the lumbar region. its still messed up to this day. 2 months post surgery i tried squatting and it felt good but out of nowhere at only 185 during warmups, got 9 reps into it and the same thing happened again. both times when it happened, i literally had to lay on the ground and not bend my back. i couldnt stand up, couldnt walk. couldnt bend down to sit in my car and had to call out of work. a sick amount of ibuprofin and i could move normally after 2 days. still gives me aches and pains every now and then even tho i the only lower body stimulation i get is the bike. depressing

I can certainly attest to that. My two worst reaggravations were not from my big heavy sets. I'll keep that in mind.

Save for last week on chest. My final set of 395 on bench I hit one rep okay, my second rep I felt my left pec strain, but I really pushed for a third and then I felt my right pec strain. Really dumb & stubborn in retrospect and it was comical really, except that ended my workout and that was my first exercise. First time I had a bilateral pec strain.

yeah bro, that's a sciatic nerve. You probably had a minor slip in your lumbar somewhere, just enough to hit that sciactic nerve. I hate that and I've done the exact same thing you did.

My gym was having a DL contest, I was only filming. I got so fired up just watching, I thought I'd just jump on in when they hit 405. Mind you I could rep 405 at this point, so it should have been a shoe-in rep. Some people were struggling and some people were missing, so I sort of got egotisical and wanted to show off. I attempted the pull dead cold, the weight didn't budge and my back was TORE!!! That put me out for a good while.

My sciatic nerve doesn't get aggravated anymore, thank god. I had it for a year (10 months) straight and even sitting in class was unbearable. My lower back is just vulnerable in general, the one other exercise I can't do are BB rows and that's actually my second favorite lift, scond to deads. Injuries suck, but having had lame injuries makes me appreciate my other functional bodyparts.
