CYCLE QUESTIONS

You guys are blowing my mind right now. I thought SLP was for panzis...that's all I ever see on them.
Granted the bulk of users are those afraid of true freeweights, and those whom are too afraid to try squats. But there are those of use who have found that our legs respond better to leg press. I still squat as i think they are invaluable movements now. However a hige section of my leg growth came from various types of leg press. I put on 2 inches on legs when I gave up squatting for almost 2 years and concentrated on leg press. However to see my form and the depth of my reps you would understand why they treat me so well. I never do them for ego, but I do go heavy as FUG on them when I can in good form. On the preweighted machines a lot of them feel WAY heavier than what the stack says it is.

hmmmm well all i want is legs like him!!! hahah sooo i can't complain about slp or squats!!! IMO it doesn't matter SLP OR HACK JUST GET BIG LEGS!!! THATS WHAT WE DO BABY!!! I PREFER squats babae!! Reall men squat hahah :trout:
 
No like I said i still do squats I just think that leg presses are an integral part of building your legs. Bottom line is you can safely push your legs way beyond what you can with weight on your back. Too many links in the chain with squats that if one of them is weak the leg developement can suffer from not being hit hard enough. When legs alone is the main concern this is your exercise. When the overall body strength, core strength, functionality and testosterone stimulation are also put into consideration the squat is still king.
 
That guys is mean looking. I think it all comes down to how your body works too. Squats straight kill my legs and i get more separation from them too.

Absolutely on point here Kleen. You still need to squat for the functional strength but you can really isolate and push more weight with these machines.

just do the squats, and if you have a little gas left in the tank hit the machine. i can't go heavy on squats since knee replacement but i still get a lot out of even lighter-weight squats.

Exactly how I get. Hams and groin will be thrashed andd only a twinge of soreness if that in my quads. Doing them with a much closer stance and higher on my traps has definitely helped me target them more but they still get more work out of leg press for me.

exactly, a mixed-up, confused muscle is a good muscle. change up is way to go.

I compromised and went with a plate-loaded SLP. - I just don't know. I think for me I'm better off doing Front Squats or something. It just didn't feel hardcore enough to me. It felt good, but not great.

Oh, btw, I went up to a gym near my work today and hung out with a group of some elite-level powerlifters. It was great going to a hardcore gym and watching some beastly dudes lift, but in all honesty, I was most impressed by a 19yo girl that was training with them. She was maybe 150lbs and crushed 345lb Back Squat. She was going for a PR just when I was leaving; I don't know how much it was.
 
Awesome, Man IC with your quads not much short of leg pressing dump trucks is gonna get those bad boys. I know there are so many lucky people out there who can do squats and have phenominal quad developement and need nothing else. It really comes down to insertion points and leverage for each person. If the insertion point of a muscle for you is an inch higher on your thigh than mine the exact same range of motion will work that muscle and all of its supporting muscles completely different. You and I could be the same height, same inseam, do a squat with our feet on the exact same spots and you would come in the next day talking about how sore you quads were while I talked about my groin and glutes killing me. All about the insertion points and the leverage it creates in each of our bodies that is why advanced training really is always something very personal. This is same reason why some guys bench all day and have no chest but hge shoulders and triceps while another guy has pecs that are huge, small shoulders and hardly any tricep development, yet they workout together and bench around the same weights.

Pansie here saying my quads were sore as Hela's ass!!! Did Hack Squats on Sunday just for you Irish. I even called out your name before starting the first work set. Which was 400lbs for 14 reps. If felt pretty heavy for an old pansie like myself.....or is that Panzer instead of pansie???!!! :evil:

I'm back at this Odin-cursed freakshow my city calls a library!! Hoping the PC gets fixed today. Going to take it in if I don't find an old power supply for it today. Will still do the LG log regardless!!! No worries there IrishCannon. And speaking of those sissified Leg Presses.....I can only wish I had quads like yours. Being 6'3" isn't exactly conducive to huge quads. Not making excuses....just progress!!! I like thighs like Arnold's instead of Tom Platz' quads anyway. Different strokes for different folks. Makes the world go round!!

CHEST--High Incline DB Bench Presses--50'sX10, 100'sX17!!, 100'sX16>80'sX12>50'sX15. I was more surprised to hit the 16 reps on that second set than I was the 17 reps on the first set. Concentrating on FUF (form until failure) rather than my old lifting style. I can "Branch Warren" the 100's for 23 reps on Incline his way!!
BACK--DB Pullovers--50X10, 100X14, 100X12>70X13>50X15. Sweetness. My lats are sore in all the right places today!! I hope everyone can figure out that I'm doing 1 work set, resting a minute, then hitting up a second workset with 2 drops immediately following with NO rest between the 3 drop sets!! Anywhoo..
SHOULDERS--Machine Shoulder Presses--Yes, Irish another machine..ha ha We're not all hardcore like your Celtic self!! 120X10, 220X12, 220X12>180X10>140X18!! Went slightly Berzerker on that one....
TRICEPS--Behind Head DB Extensions--50X10, 100X14!!, 100X12>70X12>50x10. Sounds like girlie weights....felt like brutal man weights!! Rember FORM here, I can use 150lb DB for 10 reps with so-so form. That's out the window for now!! Maybe when the Prop starts....
BICEPS--Machine Preacher Curls--My absolute favorite exercise in all the nine worlds!! 100X10, 200X12, 200X12>150X10>100X15. Swollen like 2 huge footballs. Big water hose vein running down the sides.
QUADS--Hack Squats--150X10, 400X14!! (for Irish Cannon), 400X 10 (felt hammie tighten up)>200X12. Can't complain for an old 46 year old senior like myself. Wait til the Natadrol arrives!!! Gonna smash these numbers like Mjolnir smashing the skulls of frost giants!!! Boo-Yah!!
HAMSTRINGS--Lying Leg Curls--60X10, 140X10, 100X12 (right ham still tight from Hack Squats)>100X10>70X10. Smoked ham....simply delicious!! I hope I'm not confusing people blurting in on the sets like this...

TODAY Monday January 25,2010.
30 minutes of cardio and ab work followed by some hammer curls (DB 60'sX12 and some seated calf raises (200X25) A couple of sets of each. Didn't hit 'em yesterday. These workouts are long. Taking 1 hour and 20 minutes. Trying to cut the time down.
But I must say, I was sweating like Branch Warren.....in church....on crack!!!!! LMFAO up in this Loki Library!!! Getting looks. Took my huge jacket off and exposed myself in a "wife beater" tank top. Yes, even at my age, I'm so vain!!!

Limited time on this PC. Hela's fatal kiss and Loki take the hindermost!!!!!

Glad you are liking it. You are completely smashing the weights bro. Don't let the pace and the cuts coming quickly fool you though, this will pack on muscle too. That second phase is ridiculous too. Just wait until you get to there... BOOM Growth, either would be awesome on your LG Log or the Prop. Man that workout was intense I felt myself flexing a little as I read through it. Knowing what it feels like I am almost pumped myself. Did you do the Tri ext back at that 45 degree angle too, makes a huge difference in the 3rd head involvement and lowers the weight a good bit. You mentioning the difference in weight I assume you did. Nice eh...

Here's the casualty report from the sacred field of battle....

CHEST--Machine Incline Bench Presses--180X10, 370X9, 370X7>270X12>200X17. Just fried 'em out on that last set. The lactic acid was searing through my muscles like molten lava through a volcano!!
BACK--Regular Pulldowns--150X10, 260X10, 260X9>220X11>180X15. Damn...my lats were still very sore from Sunday's DB Pullovers!! So I went very "light" today. Form is still of utmost importance here. And my wings are getting wider all the time!!
SHOULDERS--Seated Arnold DB Presses--30'sX10, 60'sX12, 60'sX10>40'sX15>25'sX18. Went light here also. Shoulders are also sore. I love these sadistic DOMS from this type of training!! I'm a sick bastich though....
TRICEPS--Overhead Rope Extensions--80X10, 120X12, 120X11>90X13>70X15. I'm tossing in isolation exercises on 1 of my 3 training days each week. Can't keep pounding away on the compounds all the time!!
BICEPS--DB Drag Curls--40'sX10, 70'sX14!!, 70'sX12>50'sX11>30'sX15. Whoo-wee!!! Sould have went with the 90's like I was planning on. Will do so next time fo sho!!Thanks Mr. Kleen for the idea on this variation. Much stricter than my old EZ Bar Drag Curls. Even though I can go up to 205 on those. I've always been strong on biceps since beginning weight training at the age of 19. My old workout partners had 2 nicknames for me. Dr. Deadlift (I could dead over 600+) which is not original. That moniker belonged to Dr. Fred Hatfield.
The second nickname was King Curl. I would shout out before doing curls, "I'm King Curl...I can curl the world"!!! ha ha
QUADS--Leg Extensions--100X15, 170X20!!, 170X17>125X12>75X11...they were just so pumped I had to lower the weight this much. Sweet. My goddess had awoken and had passed through the outer sanctuary when she heard me shouting during that first workset!! She entered the Holy Temple to ask if I was alright!!! I told her that I was better than alright!!! :yup::evil:
HAMSTRINGS--Stiff-Legged Deadlifts--155X10, 335X11, 335X10>255X9>205X12. Even though my hams were still throbbing from Sunday's brew-ha-ha (I know that's not how it's spelled...but people wouldn't know if I spelled it correctly!!So I spelled it in phonics..ha ha) I decided to throw caution to the wind and go for the gusto!!

I'm adjusting to these workouts very nicely. I love the pain immensely!! My cardio is increasing, my energy levels are up alot, and the endorphins released from this stuff keeps me on a natural high.
I HIGHLY recommend this type of routine to all of you who want a change of pace. :bigok::yeah:

I 've tried several times to copy and paste the song Thunderer by StormWarrior off of youtube on this Loki Laufeyson accursed library computer!!! It worked on Cult of Personality the other day!! OH WELL... Go there and listen to that song please...

it's funny, i am actually proud to be getting older. i have lived a full and adventuresome life, and have a ton of great memories.
btw-i tried to listen to your song but it timed out. i am big on drums-a good drum solo is every bit as good as a guitar solo to me-if not better.

just heard a different version of spirit crusher-shades of black sabbath, but faster. although i much prefer ozzy's vocals. gonna google richard christy-another great drum solo was santana at woodstock-can't think of the drummers name but imo he stole the entire show at original woodstock.

If you don't know what type of power supply, what processor model is in your computer? I would bet a standard ATX power supply will work fine.

Richard Christy is better... plays death metal with way more soul and taste... if that makes sense. Pete just sounds like he is having an epileptic fit in front of a drumset. Plus the electronic triggers are cheating. He is good, but no Richard Christy.

That is an interesting comparison... maybe black sabbath after smoking 8 bowls of meth or something. Just for conversations sake, Death is to modern death metal and deathcore what Black Sabbath was to the heavy metal of the 80s. They are the grandfather's, the originators of their genre.

i agree, death is much faster-and yeah, sabbath set the stage for the genre. but i still like ozzys vocals, and i bet he could still hang for a song or 2 with death even today, lol. i checked out richard christy, the guy is very fast, has great reflexes and good rythmn. but i will still take bonham just for sheer velocity-bonham looks like he is setting pr's on deads and squats when he plays, the man does battle with his drum kit. moby ****-enough said, lol.

Yea, the "screaming demon from hell" voice isn't for everyone. I prefer it though over the "cookie monster" sounding voice of some death metal. You can understand the high pitch growls a lot easier. It's definitely an "acquired taste".

you are exactly right about acquired taste, that is why every generation seems to prefer the music of their youth. i got lucky being a teenager in early 70's.
music took on a whole different direction than anything that had come before. i think psychedelic drugs may have had something to do with that, lol.

You should start a workout log when you fire up this new routine!! I'll sub if I have to walk to this accursed library. By the way, that's where I'm at once again. Gotta get my PC fixed today. This is getting redonkulous!!

That's what a co-worker told me. I have a Dell 5150 Dimension. It's only about 4 years old. The storm I brewed up last Thor's Day fried my power supply. The printer and screen still come on, but the fan doesn't kick on and nothing pops up on the screen. I'm embarrassingly computer illetirate and don't know the proper terms to give you. Sorry bro. But I was told I don't have to specifically buy a Dell power supply, but can pick a "generic" one up at Wal-Mart.

You got that right. I love many of the newer groups like Mudvayne and SlipKnot and such. But I prefer my old Queensryche, Iron Maiden, and ManOWar!
Vocalists like Geoff Tate, Sebastian Bach, and Rob Halford are the bests in my little opinion.

Give it to the rich? - That's a funny take. I guess it's essentially going to SOME rich (politicians), but most of it is being redistributed to the people that want to sit on their lazy ass and collect a check. :)
