Not going to believe a site that is trying to 'sell' me six pack abs.

Here are pix of bodyfat levels:

3% (which can really only be obtained for a few hours at a time):

That was the 1st 2 links I found, 1 was Mens Health. There's many more. But I suppose they could be lying. With 3% you'd have to have little to no water too.

But the transition from 'normal' to 'movie physique' is inclusive with substantial gains in LBM, with concurrent substantial losses in stored adipose tissue; once again, at the rates noted here, this type of tissue turnover is physiologically impossible without assistance from compounds which increase nitrogen retention (and thereby protein transcription), increase glycogen storage, and regulate metabolism.

If any of the 'this type of transition is possible' people can show me some empirical data, not anecdotal reports, not a trainer bragging about his trainee, but a study, showing that it is possible to do some of the changes noted in this thread within 20 weeks, please do. If not, be quiet.

..PowerFULL (increase nitrogen retention)
..P-Slin/AP (increase glycogen storage)
..Recreate (regulate metabolism)

Case studies abound Mullet!

The little to no water thing is why you can't just 'walk around' at 3% bf.

Dunno.. Ronnie Coleman walked around at 3%, got down to 1.8% for the Olympia a few yrs. back. On some sites they couldn't even pinch the skin for a measurement, so they had to guesstimate..
And Ronnie doesn't do steroids either!

Pretty sure he falls into the 'genetic freak' category though.

Take every other actor and pic of this thread out of your head other than Gerard Butler (what this thread is about). Could his transformation (basically fatloss) be done without gear in 5 months time?

Yes, but that's never what I was referring to.

So this guy didn't do it?

Invalid Link Removed

That took him 2.5 years, apparently. Not the best example, maybe?

You should be, as that is what this thread is about.

~1 year (Oct 06 - Sept 07). And he had a HELLUVA ways to go compared to Gerard Butler in ~5 months.

although it is a little hard to say how much muscle was under all that fat. thats a piece of it, that he MAY not have gained all that much in muscle mass in that time, but lost a lot of fat.

Which if you actually read the alwyn cosgrove blog they state is exactly what Gerard Butler did for his role in 300. He got a 'functional, athletic physique', he is not a 'mass monster'.

yeah, I think gerard could possibly have done it without juicing, as it doesn't seem like theres much mass gained in there

You should be, as that is what this thread is about.

But I wasn't, as I was speaking about tissue turnover ratios.

You should possibly re-read, as he LOST 28lbs (15%) of his LBM. So, again, maybe not the best example? His transformation was impressive, but he did not gain muscle, and lose fat (which is what I'm talking about) at the same time. He was morbidly obese, and when he stripped that fat away with diet and exercise, he was...a normal looking individual. Amazing transformation, but not relative.

Butler, if you read his other interviews, lifted with a Venezuelan BB'er (whose name I cannot recall). Most of his training was primarily with him, and not the cross-fit training performed by many of the extras.

I am not saying he simultaneously lost fat and gained muscle. I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. This thread is about whether Gerard Butler could have stripped off the fat and obtained the physique he had for 300 WITHOUT steroids.

But we all know that diet is the key here, whether it was crossfit or traditional bb training, all he seemed to have really done is shed body fat to levels that helped accentuate the 'beach muscles'.

Again, he is not 'bigger', just cut.

Just on BB and fitness forums there's an absurd number of people using gear who have very average, if not less than average physiques, very un-impressive. Many people, more so than ever, look for the quick easy way to acheive results but simply don't have the determination & patience to maintain what they get out of AAS. In Hollywood where looks are basically everything, I can't begin to imagine how many use AAS, males alone.

I'm lost as to what is even the argument. Like crying emo I see no simultaneous fat loss/mass gain. But I think maybe we are talking about different actors?

Btw, Ziquor's sig says it all. I think we should all just stfu and be like that guy...whoever he might be.

Speaking of, anyone see this movie yet?

Haven't seen it, but I heard about it. Not much of a fan of the Docu-Drama films. I find most of these so called "documentaries", especially the likes of Michael Moore's films to be quite slanted and are just as bad as any political propaganda.

Yea steroids have side effects. So does the prescription acne drug Accutane. You don't see a bunch of people waiving the red flag and making movies about controlling their zits.

Sure, anything can have sides - some things more than others. If it was a documentary soley about bashing aas & side effects I'd have no desire to see it, but it looks more interesting than just that.

I agree, after watching the trailer I would like to see it, I just don't think I am going to like what I end up seeing. I already got the feeling that the whole slant is going to be a "shame shame" sort of thing. Kinda like the whole gun control issue and bowling for columbine. Yea, the stories were all sad, and they all were issues of gun control, but I just found it to be Michael Moore's stepping stone for his own agenda. I hope these filmmakers are different.

I don't know if this film is going to be educating people or just trying to sway them one way or another, there has to be an underlying motive/direction or the film won't have a conclusion, and most film's tend to have a conclusion.

I will probably watch it as soon as I can get my hands on it though. :D

Did you see the "man with the exploding arms" documentary?

No never heard of. WTF is that?

Really? It's about four different people who all took steroids or were in the process of cycling or selling steroids. I think it was on A&E.

The exploding arms part was about Gregg Valentino and his grotesque physique from steroid abuse, and during the process of, his arm got infected (at something ridiculous like 28") from using needles over and over again... they didn't mention it in the documentary, but I think it was from screwing up with Synthol. I don't think his arms could have gotten like that otherwise.

Pretty gnarly stuff, and Valentino is OUT OF HIS MIND at times.

Watch with caution... it's gross.

His grotesque physique (arms really) were from synthol abuse, certainly not from site injections.

Agreed. They don't mention Synthol from what I remember in the documentary. They use the slant that it was from long term steroid abuse ... which is total BULLSH*T.

synthol is a site injection, though.

Steroids, however, do not have any site-specificness, so in that regard he's full of crap (or oil/Silicon). Unless he's constantly injecting esterless suspensions in minute quantities (IM Test Suspension Drip?). Yeah right. I'm more suspicious that it's implants. Synthol can't hold that much, as to add 6+ inches to your arm. (His arms are 27", Jay's and Ronnies are 22", ain't no way in hell his would be 22" naturally).

Yeah I want to say implants as well. Synthol will make the muscle big, but 7-8" of straight oil is kinda ridiculous.

It is probably, muscle, scar tissue, oil, and muscle implants.

Well, there are several guys who are lightweights to begin with, do a cycle, and still are lightweights

Let's just assume Gerard Butler used Clenbuterol, Helios, and HGH to get ripped.

Anyone have proof that Brad Pitt used steroids to bulk up?

After this thread I watched a lot of behind the scenes footage on youtube of 300. I am sure you can find it as it took me 30 seconds but I don't want to search for all the clips I thought were good.

Anyway, the director says that some of the abs were painted on. He talks about the lighting and how it really helped out.

Not to mention (I always tell people this) most of the time actors pump up for scenes. There is a clip of Butler curling a dumbbell before a shot. Considering Butler's minimal chest development and how some of the actors looked under normal lighting conditions from the clips, their bodies aren't nearly as impressive.

I still believe his body is attainable naturally in that short amount of time with make-up, lighting, and pumping-up between takes.

given his age, maybe he was just placed on short term accidentally overdosed TRT ;)
yeah, i wasnt questioning whether he did, just wondering if he came out and said it publicly. lol

Yeah, I meant steroid site injections.

:fool2:

Another paparazzi pic. Looks like everyone in Hollywood is on something.

yeah, where did that come from??
hmmm.. sounds like you're a skeptic there X.

That would be Forslean..

Forslean - A study which evaluated body composition found that when users took Forslean(without changing their normal nutrition/exercise habits), they were able to reduce body fat percentage by 4.14%. In addition, they were able to lose 9.9 pounds of fat mass and gained 8.2 pounds of lean body mass, over a 12 week period!
In addition Forslean has also been shown to increase Testosterone production - This will ensure your "Test" levels are pumping while your burning fat..
..while others may cite this study, it was performed using Forslean and only Forslean. While others may claim their product can produce these results, only Forslean, not their cheap imitation coleus forskolii, was actually used in the study.

here's the highlights from this link: Invalid Link Removed

Increasing Lean Body Mass
The biochemical mechanism of maintaining or increasing lean body mass is related to the availability of cyclic AMP. By facilitating hormonal action, cyclic AMP may regulate the body's thermogenic response to food, increase the body's basic metabolic rate, and increase utilization of body fat (since thermogenesis is preferentially fueled by fatty acids derived from body fat and/or food). These events also correspond to the buildup of lean body mass. Based on the above rationale and mechanism of diterpene forskolin, Sabinsa Corporation has clinically tested its patented standardized extract of Coleus, ForsLean™, for its ability to increase lean body mass.

ForsLean is an extract of Coleus forskohlii root, standardized for 10 percent forskolin. In one study, ForsLean was tested in an open-field study with a population of six overweight women (BMI greater than 25). The tested formula was in the form of two-piece, hard shell capsules; each capsule contained 250 mg of the extract. The overweight, but otherwise healthy women, received the forskolin formula twice daily for eight weeks. Participants were instructed to take one capsule in the morning and one in the evening, half an hour before a meal. Each participant was asked to maintain her previous daily physical exercise and eating habits. In addition, physical activity was monitored based on a questionnaire before and during the trial. During the eight week trial, the mean values for body weight and fat content significantly decreased, whereas lean body mass was significantly increased as compared to the baseline. The regimen did not adversely affect the systolic/diastolic blood pressure nor the pulse rate; indeed, a trend was observed of lower systolic/diastolic pressure during the course of treatment.

Based on the results of this preliminary study, Sabinsa recently obtained a U.S. patent for ForsLean's weight-loss mechanism. As mentioned previously, forskolin is known as a compound with versatile biological actions based on its ability to stimulate adenylate cyclase and cyclic AMP levels. Typically, an increase in cyclic AMP leads to subsequent activation of protein kinase. Protein kinase has been shown to activate the enzyme lipase, which disposes of triglycerides, known as building blocks of fatty tissue. The other factor relevant to the weight loss mechanism of forskolin involves its thyroid stimulating action, comparable in strength to thyrotropin or TSH. The thyroid stimulating action of forskolin may also contribute to the increase in the metabolic rate and thermogenesis. Forskolin may also be involved in regulating insulin secretion. Insulin, although well recognized for its metabolism of carbohydrates, is often overlooked as being involved with the metabolization of other macronutrients, i.e. fats and proteins, major contributors to body composition.

As advocated by the Centers for Disease Control, sensible, moderately intensive exercise for at least 30 minutes daily is the main method to maintain lean body mass. However, the combined effects of exercise and Coleus could contribute to and further optimize lean body mass. This approach could be especially useful to people who are disabled or elderly and may have a difficult time exercising due to physical limitations.

Because most weight loss regimens result in a drop in the metabolic rate and a decline in thyroid function, use of Coleus as an adjunct to exercise could be particularly relevant. A decreased metabolic rate and thyroid function often lead to the loss of lean body mass, which limits the health benefits of trimming the waistline. This undesired and often detrimental effect on lean body mass also illustrates the limitations of low calorie diets in weight loss regimens.
