The Lean Gains / IF learning and Discussion Log

Is it just me or does this guy remind you of Jacks from Mortal Combat with his arms and shoulders all swoll and a normal size body.

I would stick with BCAA's.

leucine being the major player

This! If I were to customize any of it I might add 2 grams of glutamine to 6-8 grams luecine to get the most stimulation to protein synthesis since both are huge promoters of it, and the Glutamine will help induce a large GH surge within about 90 minutes of consumption as well as increase your immune system.

What do you guys think about SAA's instead of BCAA's to drink during fasting? I am looking to get some new BCAAs but I just wanted to see if you guys had any input on these for fasted training and the use of them for IF.

Sorry about that. Honestly donno how it happened. Phone app.

I did a search for SAA and I think a Sex Addict Anonymous meeting would be great cardio during your fast. ;)

No really what do you mean by SAA, I am aware of BCAA and EAA but not familiar with that one unless that was a typo.

Haha SAA stands for silk amino acids. They're "supposed" to be superior to BCAAS and the new cutting ege thing. Like I said...supposedly. I just wanted to see what you guys thought about them. My girl wishes that I had to go to a Sex Addict Anonymous meeting. Ha. But hey...might have to give it a try and see if it WORKS FOR ME. Because hey...IF is all about customizing to you, right?

I think SAA's could be anabolic but I think they play a different role than bcaas.
I doubt that they would cover the anti-catabolic needs like bcaas

Ahhh, no I hadn't heard of them but are they more expensive, if so unless you have a lot of money to blow go with the BCAA with high luecine content.

This!! To my BCAAs I add some bulk leucine , like 3-5 grams of glutamine , and around 4 grams of beta alanine!! Helps out a lot :3!!!

But you get what you pay for with it. ;)

Yeap.. Kinda costly though.. :)

Actually a friend of mine gets them for free in mexico lol , his dad and my dad are friends , and my dad kinda runs some hospitals and has some hook ups , be he doesnt want his only son in oral steroids ;p so he wont gimme!! >_<!!

Yeah , he and I have been friends since we were kids , and our parents have worked together for a while hehe. Besides he has been going at this since he was like 14-15 (bb'ing not oxadrolone) and he is pretty damn lean and big...he can bench around 400lbs and squat around 600 haha

Bau5 like status right there lol ...

I think we all use IF....

Yeah but only I am going to use it to win. See the difference??? ;)

Actually I know ScottyDoc won't be using it. Was one of our side convos regarding the efficacy of the dietary strategies. He had told me before he wanted to see how it would go having people use both methods to see who got the better results.

Yeah I do. I'm pretty sure Doc does not follow LG not sure about about Live to Lift.

Wait a minute now... Did you just call me Puddin? :)

This is gonna be such a blast. Looking at the pics we are all pretty darn close on bodyfat levels so it should be a real fun and visual competition.

I am counting on 550 to knock me down some due to the short time frame and it does seem to have dried green out some. Man did he transform fast on this shyte. May have been a bit of a perfect storm for him though.

Yeah from what I saw from him 550XD has a lot of promise.

LMAO at Cultivating Fatness!

Vote4Pedro, thanks for the support!

I would love to believe that they had no chance but these are some high caliber guys in this contest. DreamWeaver can cut down with the best of them and has some MAJOR Brick Abs. ScottyDoc is known for his radical and quick transformations. LivetoLift and TurningGreen are both up and comer's with tons of potential. If they realize that potential during this contest it is really going to make for a crazy ride which is what we are all hoping for.

That being said, I am gonna beat them like a dirty rug!

Well trying LG again this year. Started 2 weeks ago. Last year I concentrated a lot on hitting my macros, and I literally made ZERO progress after 8 weeks. And I calculated my macros based on what I set as my maintenance calories for my previous diet that was in fact netting me fatloss. Perhaps there's something about not eating that first 4-6 hours that changes my metabolism somehow or my reaction to the macros I ate. At any rate, this time around I concentrate on hitting my protein target, and then otherwise "do my best" to first eat until I'm full, and then on workout days maybe make a 10% effort to hit the other macro targets. After 2 weeks of this, I have been seeing pretty awesome progress. And I get to sleep like an hour more not having to worry about preparing breakfast/wash dishes, lol!

Lol even though I vote for kleen and think he is gonna win...I gotta admit DreamWeaver is pretty amazing for his age, I say a full second place for him, and if Kleen doesn't watch his back, Dream could even end up first place :p

do not fall prety to skinny white boy syndrome™ the amount of catabolism cortisol will do in that time frame is not that significant, and from all studies done would appear to be more than made up for by the hormonal optimization that intermittent fasting gives you.

Doing bio-sig and poliquin meat nuts at breakfast. Kick start neurotransmitter and signaling.

Also, cooking with organic butter/ghee, eating more animal fat and not adding fat to meals AI we break down store fats.
Truth?

Do you guys think incorporating a TKD diet on a LG/IF routine is overkill? I'm on day 5 of TKD and for some reason, it's not as bad as when I tried to attempt this back in January. The whole point of LG is to regulate insulin and leptin, but when you're doing a TKD, you're only spiking insulin right before your workouts.

My eating window is from 3pm-11pm. I start to workout either at 3pm or 4pm, so I actually use 30g of Powerade mix during my eating window. Then after that, I have my one primary meal that consists of 1333cals (6 whole eggs, 56g cheese, 10oz chorizo). Then around 8 or 9pm, I have my last meal that is a shake consisting of two scoops of Muscle Milk and flaxmeal. I'm going to add in 1 tbsp of coconut oil just to hit total cals.

Overall, I take in 2300cals on rest days and 2500 on workout days. Also I don't take any carbs (Powerade) on rest days, so it's a full on keto, only trace carbs from veggies. I'm also using bulk bcaas during the fasting period and during workouts. I think I'm going to start taking one more serving after my primary meal.

Let me know how you guys feel about this.

I pretty much do A TCD.

Depending on when my training falls kinda dictates how I structure it.

What's a TCD? Targeted cyclic-ketogenic diet? I've heard of SKD, CKD, and TKD, but not a TCD.
Timed Carb diet. I don't really consider it "keto" as I don't really care about getting into ketosis. I still have a small amount of carbs on off days(20-60 depending on my goals/condition).

Gotchya. So basically you only consume carbs at a specific time? What do you consume on your other meals, just protein/fat? Basically, that's what I'm doing.

30-50g of Powerade mix for workouts. I take the first sip after I'm done with my 10-15 min. warmup.

After that, it's nothing but fat/protein meals. The only carbs I get after workouts is the 19.5g carbs in 2 scoops of Muscle Milk. Fat loss is my primary goal right now so I am trying to be as strict as I can. I make sure to try and get as depleted as I can during workouts so that I can get into ketosis ASAP. According to the TKD guidelines, the carbs consumed pre and during workouts don't count towards cals since they pretty much get burned up, so overall I'm only consuming 19.5g of carbs along with trace carbs from veggies, which I don't think hit even 10g.

Basically when I would work out in the late afternoon I would consume pro/fat at 12pm, intra(3pm) a pro/carb drink(sometimes I just skipped this and had more in my post workout meal), post workout(5pm)pro/carb, and 8pm pro/fat. Off days I may have some carbs with my 5pm meal only, in a small amount.
