Slicin' and Dicin'

Cycle 6
Week 3

Squats
5 x 95, 140, 180
3 x 215

5 x 265
3 x 300
3 x 335 (PR)
1 x 355 (shallow)

BBB
5 x 10 x 180

Notes
Another reps PR, not sure how I feel about it, I think I'd be more excited if it was 5+ but hey, my warm up weight today at the end of cycle 6 is higher than my working weight on cycle 1.

I had 355 but pussed out and started to climb out of the hole early. I was 1-2" too high but otherwise ok. Opted not to chase 370+ which would be a 1RM PR but I'm close.

(Cycle 1 example below)

Weight 206

Killing it man!

Then the 180 for 50 reps afterwards 😅

Heck yeah, you’ve been crushing it man.

I was thinking about this earlier, wondering what it will be for cycle 7 lol.

Keeping that PR train rolling…awesome.💪😎👍

appreciate it guys. this morning I was wondering if I should change up my routine a bit. currently doing:

mon bench
tues squat
weds rest
thurs ohp
fri pulls.
sat/sun rest (farm work lol)

I've never considered bench or OHP a difficult recovery movement, but I walked into tuesday feeling more fatigued than usual, and weds morning I definitely feel the DOMs already from squats. weds rest is great, but I almost wonder if I should change my sessions to every other day rather than 2 on, 1 off, 2 on, 2 off.

Everything seems to be moving up!!

I think I'm getting better at moving weights that are truly on the upper end of my capacity cause these last few sessions have been hitting me like a sack of rocks! last night I could feel DOMs in my hamstrings and glutes within like 3hrs of my squat session, and today (weds) my chest is tight/sore from Mondays chest work. I haven't felt such consistent DOMs like this since my old xfit days doing 2hr sessions 6 days a week, lol.

Congrats on another well earned PR!

Man, I don’t know why I haven’t seen your updates (I’ve been looking for them!), but congrats on the bench and squat improvements!!! Really solid rep PRs achieved.

Why is your bench supposed to climb 10lbs each cycle? It’s specifically supposed to be FIVE (5). Wendler is very clear about this; I think your app is doing things wrong. It’s going to run you off the runway shortly if you follow that. Keep milking it!

let me check, hadn't even thought about it.

<checking>
yeah you're right the app has me going up 10lbs per cycle lol. I hadn't really thought about it cause here we are 6 months in and I'm only just at old 1RM's really so it hasn't by a long shot over extended me. Did some digging in on settings and found it. Bench, Pulls, Squats were set at 10lbs. OHP at 5lbs. I was able to manually correct it though so here's what the future looks like. Just finished Cycle 6 at 300lbs

Cycle 7 to 305
Cycle 8 to 310
Cycle 9 to 315 <- that would be about New Years Even, Starting Cycle 10 around 1/1/27.

Congrats on another well earned PR!
OMG my glutes are sore today lol thanks dude

appreciate it! I need to make an adjustment here somewhere to incorporate meaningful pause work I think. @gphagan1 's spottos are getting me thinking. I hit that 300 x 2, but I want these to be much better quality reps and I think lower position / pause work could be a good contributor.

all of this means that in cycle 7 I'm running for top sets

5 x 240
3 x 270
1+ x 305

whereas cycle 6 was:

5 x 270 (got 5)
3 x 285 (got 4)
1+ x 300

so thats kinda weird. those are massive adjustments for a 5lb difference in weekly jumps. the AMRAPs should look better on paper though I'd think.

Yes, do not think of this as a reduction - it’s just ensuring you can keep momentum rolling strong on this train!

Yes, not a reduction, instead, a plateau delayer.

thats what I need. been hitting my numbers but have been very aware of how much harder they're getting! wanna keep this gravy train going.

speaking of gravy. woke up about 204 today. it seems like 204 is my normal weight, 206 is my 'salted' weight these days. its held there for weeks. generally nutrition has been cleaned up but tonight is a BBQ date with my boy after school. so we'll see how that goes ;)

Power snatch
5 x bar, 65, 95, 115

OHP
5 x 75, 95

5 x 325
3 x 370
1 x 410

Joker
1 x 445

DB laterals
1 x 20 x 25s

Notes
Called a scheduling audible and threw down pulls with press again. This wraps up week 3 of cycle 6. I will see how next week goes. Might spend a week of 1RM testing before my deload. I was pretty exhausted today though, I think OHP should have gone higher but all in all I hit 3 on my 1 day and threw 200 overhead again.

Do some back off BBB work next workout before deloading, unless you are going to test. If you decide to go for testing, skip it (this helps shed fatigue to peak somewhat). But if you are going to deload and just get back on the next wave, do a day where you just get your 50 reps of press and RDL or something in first. The base matters.

It's funny you say that cause I was craving some hypertrophy work this morning/last night and realized I'll basically be back into it when I reincorporate my BBB work.

Today's lack of lifting was cause I took a PTO day to do more yard clean up / garden prep. I dropped another tree and have been building this pile for when we get a wood chipper rented. The pics don't do it justice. This pile is about 6-7ft tall and 20ft+ long. I'll probably have four or more like this once all the tree mess is cleaned up.

Taking a break now to pound some electrolytes.

Man just love the pictures of the trees and how nice it looks! Lots of work no doubt!

It is a lot of work but I was telling my wife tonight we are lucky to be doing it. A lot of it is one step in front of the other, a lot like your house. Having that vision long term but just inching towards the finish line one weekend (and paycheck) at a time, lol.

Tonight my wife went down the road to a local shellfish place and hooked us up, we haven't done grilled oysters in a long time! So here's some food pr0n

Clams, raw oysters, grilled oysters, and her sourdough for the clam broth (plus of course veggies)

That’s definitely a lot of work, but it’s going to look good when you’re finished.😎👍

Nice work, there is something kind of fun about downing a tree and cutting it up. The change it makes is so obvious and satisfying. Plus just something about that level / type of work that invigorates you a bit. I have some tree work I need to do, and some I probably need to have someone come and do for me. I have a massive Live Oak that has grown over the top of my house and started dropping leaves and old branches. I am not afraid to do it myself, but I definitely need a plan if I try. The risk of the heavy ass oak dropping on and damaging the roof while cutting is real, and I don't want to have to repair a roof over trying to trim a tree.

You know it's so weird, I recall vividly paying a dude $1100 back around 2008 to drop a huge dogwood when I lived in town. Now he had to be careful cause we lived in a development and I wanted it down cause behind my yard was an elderly community but those are in 2008 dollars. We paid John $2200 to take down around 20 trees a couple weeks ago and they were massive. I walked on off today and it's about 100ft tall and pushing 25-30" diameter.

I found a mobile mill guy who might come out and mill all these logs for me. The lumber I could then use for my little barn.

Today the wife and I got another big area cleaned up. I have no idea what some of these logs weight, I'm guessing over 225lbs, maybe 315+? Some of them are insanely heavy so I'm cleaning them and flipping them over continuously until I can get them into stacks. Sorta like a mix of a tire flip and continental clean. I felt like I was doing a CrossFit WOD today lol.

His and hers chainsaws.

Logging is definitely tough work…. I have to cut up fallen trees in our woods about twice a year. I’ll cut them into 24” logs, go rent a splitter and have at it. Ha, I never run out of firewood or have to buy any. As a matter of fact I usually give some away if someone needs it.
That looks like some pretty wood. That will make some good looking lumber when you have it milled.😎👍

I was thinking a lot about how these guys are legit. I'm putting in a few hours a day on the weekend to save a couple hundred dollars doing it myself and they do it every day to make the mortgage. my forearms were WRECKED by the end, felt like someone sat there punching them all day from carrying these logs around. the lower back freezes up fast when I'm using the chainsaw but it typically loosens up after an hour or two. I have a lot of respect for those guys.

I found a local mill/sawyer I might have mentioned. I've been working with Claude to calculate what I'll need, what its worth, expected yield from some of these logs. The mill guy has a $500 minimum, charges $90/hour and can run around 500 board feet per hour. Claude and I think that for around $1000 worth of his time I could get many many thousands of dollars worth of lumber made....

I don't know for sure, but I kinda think since our timber is naturally grown, and older, it could be denser and higher quality lumber than the fast growth stuff you get from home depot?

since yesterday was my birthday, other than the Seahawks game, I spent most of the day just doing jobs "for me". so I started harvesting my tobacco leaves as well and hung them up in the attic to dry/cure. I still am not sure what I'll do with it since I don't smoke, but I think it would be fun to play with, maybe learn how to roll cigars. a lot of people have expressed interest as well and my wife saved TONS of seeds from my tobacco harvest this year so even if we neve do anything with the leaves, they make a really pretty plant to grow on the outside of the garden since they are deer resistant. this is from harvesting 2 plants below. I have like 60 plants growing so a lot will go to waste, lol.

Louie Simmons had a story about a Norwegian lumberjack that eventually took a sabbatical from work to train for powerlifting nationals. His deadlift went DOWN. All of the tons of bending over & log dragging was better preparation than extra gym work.

There was a good young strongman in the area I grew up who was a logger & did tree work. I watched him deadlift a 675 axle back to back with a 725 barbell in a training medley - and he had a state record logrpess due to his short arms, so not like he was built to deadlift. So I definitely believe that kind of work is solid GPP for the back.

Happy belated birthday! I meant to tell you earlier.

Also, it was 83* here, 22* above the average high it says. This hurricane is causing everything to be crazy; Vegas got flooded badly I saw.

It will be better wood. The down fall is it will be green, as it dries that will twist and make shapes unknown to man kind. Maybe you can lay it out and stack it up with some weight and maybe it will hold. Not saying it won’t work but maybe investigate that before you spend a lot of money.

Man those look awesome! I remember being in North Carolina and seeing tobacco fields and was there to see them harvest them.

Happy belated birthday also man!!

I was wondering the same thing, how do you keep it straight while it cures?

@Dustin07 I haven't had a cigar in a couple of years, but if you learn to roll you had better send me one!!!!

good points, and definitely a risk I overlooked. My plan was to lay it out on pallets protected from the weather anyways so I think I'm on the right track there, but the missing part could be whether it has enough time to truly be suitable. I read 6-12 months... 6 months could work OK for me for most of it, 12 wouldn't likely happen lol. I might still go for it and see what happens...

man I'm the same way. my youngest nephew was born around Feb 2019 and I think we all had cigars. I took 2 puffs and thought I was gonna throw up lol. yet here I am aging fresh leaves for some reason. I think its more out of morbid curiosity and learning whatever we can with the land and what we can grow. Did you know you can make tea from cannabis leaves?

many many years ago I did enjoy cigars though, probably more in my 20s. we had a cigar and whiskey night once a month with the boys. rule was you had to commit to at least one $50 spend which could be split over a cigar and a shot. so it got us to try a high end whiskey and a nicer cigar. I remember like Ashton Cabinet cigars and I think there was one called VSG or something like that. it was like a $25 cigar I tried in vegas like 15+ years ago and I rememer getting a nicotine buzz from the leaf itself lol.

I have a friend who grows a lot and he was telling me about all the medicinal benefits of the leaves (non smoked). my understanding was that you don't get high off it, especially the fan leaves, and if you were looking for a high from the sugar leaves you'd still have to cook/convert them first before making tea:

Does the tea do anything that smoking doesn't do I wonder. Looking at this list I am guessing the last 2 would probably be in that category.

In reality it probably won’t be to big of a deal even if it’s not quite perfect.

I would think stacking them will help, and possibly using some sort of straps, or a clamp system to keep them from warping, but what do I know. LOL

But this is what AI says.

my understanding is that both have benefits but are totally different

with the tea you would save your lungs/throat of the the smoke/burn anyways but you'd gain chlorphyl, detox, red blood cell cupport, flavonoids, polyphenols, iron, calcium, mag, zinc, vitamin c, etc. I think if you split it down with AI with pros and cons it will give you strong pros for both, with the only cons really being for the risks of smoking in general. but aside from pain and anti nausea (and maybe sleep), I think the tea leaves venture into a totally different aspect from a "health" or "medicinal" standpoint since they're not intended to get high, but more focused on general health, gut health, and supposedly anti-aging qualities...

again though, this is my internet research so take it for what its worth. all i know is my buddy is pushing 80, he acts 16, has massive energy, and swears the leaves are medicine...

I'm making it up as I go lol. believe it or not, have watched a lot of wood cabin building videos on youtube the past month lol. I sorta get lost in the idea of it, imaging the early settlers with an ax chopping down all these trees, then de barking them, then scratching notches lincoln log style. we still have some 150-200yr old cabins in our area, probably even more out there where @gphagan1 is I'd bet. sometimes I wonder if these young bucks without internet truly understood architecture and how to make a roof, or if they just kept working it until it didn't fall down on them.

Example of my high day averages. I'd like fat lower and carbs higher. Most days they were favorable but I had a few days that were my high days that just ended up being high calorie instead of high carb. So that kind of skewed my averages. Ideally carbs are around 400 on the high day and fat is under 50.

I'm still not completely buttoned up on this diet but I'm continually reducing and watching the scale.

Progress is trending in the right direction. Can't wait to add something, even just more test and trest.

Might not be your target, but a nice solid mix of macros.

Yeah we do have some near us, but my wife and I like to go up to the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg TN. There is a place called Cade’s Cove that you can drive through and stop and see some really old cabins and churches. We can spend a whole day there just walking some of the trails and you see Black Bears, deer, and even an occasional coyote, but they let you go inside the cabins and churches. It’s really cool to see how they built all those structures with such primitive tools 150 to 200 years ago. 😎👍

I have a feeling you got mixed up on your cutting thread and this one 🤣
