Kleen - Project 50: Under Construction

abs are a mindfuck man.
As you've seen in my log... it's one of those things that we all know how to accomplish and in many ways cutting is easier than getting strong, which makes getting strong for some reason... juicier and more appealing. Plus I don't know about you but I wear a shirt more often than not and I definitely like how I look in a shirt now vs dropping 10-15lbs for the shredded look.

Agreed, I wouldn't be that interested in abs if I didn't have the gyno issues. However now that I got the wife to clear that for me for next year I am not as worried about them. I would happily rock the "Bear" look if my lower chest didn't make me look like I am all sloppy under my shirt. Without them I will just look like a thick brute with a bit of a belly which both I and my wife are more than okay with! That being said I hold enough muscle to look good in shirts both ways. Especially after regaining some of it the last month, and going forward the next month. I don't think I realized how much I enjoy being a bigger guy until I saw my muscles shrinking.

I get you there. I can tell my wife likes a little more on me as well, she's even told me "yeah you were way too skinny then" when I flip back through old pics. Which is good to hear, plus the way she cooks..... we judge ourselves too hard. My wife is convinced she needs to drop 10+ lbs too but she doesn't understand that extra fluff is all T&A as far as I'm concerned and I'm a fan 😂

T&A>Leaner

Yeah, my wife likes me big and thick, she also likes me lean but says I look healthier in the face above a certain level. Once I start getting into the single digits, the skeletor look starts coming in and she isn't a fan of that at all. If I can maintain around 12-18% I would be pretty darn happy. Right now I am still in the 20-25% range.

Cardio Day
Recumbent Bike
- Hill Setting Level 8-15 35 minutes 289 calories

12/6/22 - Morning Weight 217

Lower Body is on tap for today but my lower back is a bit tight after playing with my brute of a dog last night. I got wrapped up in playing with him when he brought me his rope begging me to play with him since it had been a while. It didn't hurt while doing but I can tell I worked my lower back pretty good stabilizing against him constantly tugging on the rope and me dragging him around. So definitely will not be loading the lower back today. More than likely going to do some more leg extensions, probably add in seated leg curls, and some body weight things if all feels well.

Interesting outcome of surgery - My left biceps was always bigger due to being my dominant hand, but it never had a really obvious high peak. Now the peak seems higher and more obvious since it is growing back in after being reattached at the front of my arm. Now the peak on both arms is pretty pronounced. WooHoo!

It’s a labor of love. Gotta keep the puppers active!
Yeah and he has brought me his tug toy every day for the last week and I feel so bad having to tell him no. He doesn't know that my back is in a precarious position he just knows I keep telling him no and then he pouts and acts all pathetic. A man can only let his dog down so many times!

That’s interesting you’ve got a higher peak now on the left. I guess when they reattached it, they must have shortened and tightened everything up a bit…..makes sense.

Mine lost almost any peak it had when they pinned it lower on my forearm. Apparently that is great for armwrestling though!

Poor little guy just wants to play and you’re just staring at your biceps.

Yeah he was telling me that normally people look more buff on the side they do this on because they tuck the tendon under the pec muscle which creates more separation on the medial end.. IE the area closer to the shoulder. He said he worked hard to get the placement right so the sides would look symmetrical and he did an excellent job.

Yeah the leverage difference there i bet you can put a hurting on some people if you decide to train for it. I kind of wonder if I will run into the opposite, I have shorter leverage now so could possibly lose some strength due to different leverages.

Little... Haha, he probably gained another 10-15lbs after we got him fixed last year. He is an ox! Still acts like such a puppy and I think he is 6 this year. Hard to believe he may only have a couple years left in him with how exuberant he is now.
Sounds like recovery is progressing well, and the drugs are kicking in!!! Yeeehaaa!
Yes Sir! Full effect right now I think.

12/6/22 Nutrition - Good stuff, an in between day since I ended up not training lower body I kept calories a little lower.

My lower back was just testy all day and hadn't loosened up enough to push training. So instead I walked about a mile when I got home to help loosen things up a bit and when I was still feeling tight I called it.

12/7/22 Morning Weight 216.2 - Weight is moving down a little as expected.

Gear Update - I decided to drop the TBol until I get back from my Anniversary trip with the wife. I had a little bit of indigestion most of the day yesterday and don't see any reason to push it farther knowing I will probably have a few drinks a day while on the trip. Might as well have a week to recover the liver before I add that stress. I have enough left to run 25mg a day for about a month or so at the beginning of my next run. I did find some Olympus labs DermaTren lying around that I am going to go ahead and add now since already taking P5P. I only have about 1.5 bottles but that is enough to add a little something in place of the TBol and NPP that has been dropped. Will probably run it at 120mg a day for as long as it lasts. Always fun piecing a cycle together out of left overs. LMAO!

My back is a little more loose today than yesterday so really hoping I can get in a little lower body this evening. If not I will adjust calories and do some cardio.

Yeah I have quite a few leftovers myself….funny thing is I usually end up buying more when I find a good deal and keep adding to the stash. I guess I can’t say anything when my wife buys stuff on sale that we don’t need. Lol
That DermaTren may help give you a little recomp effect before your trip.👍

I know there was apparently a bad under-dosed batch of DermaTren, but that compound slaps so if you can get enough active in you expect good results with a tight diet!

Assuming it’s not a joint wear issue or something that will be the deciding factor in longevity for your dog, apparently life & healthspan can potentially be increased in neutered dogs by giving them true TRT, same as a human. Could be something to read up on?

Yeah, that is my hope. I haven't spent any money on gear this time around. Just using left overs. I hadn't used anything since early 2019 so I had plenty lying around.

Yeah, Oly Labs started getting a little sloppy toward the end. Claiming some ridiculously high mg of compounds in some of their products but only being effective as half the dose. Part of the reason I stopped repping there. I remember taking 60mg of DMZ and it being like running 30mg. However this batch of DermaTr3n seemed to do it's thing when I used it. That and after my first 60mg dose last night I was pretty much hard and horny all night long. Pole vaulted out of the bed when I rolled over to go to the restroom. :)

Interesting on the TRT, we just got him fixed last year as he was getting a bit too bull headed and thinking he could not listen, and or talk back to the wife and kids. He knew I was alpha so he didn't do it with me but the breed is known for being hard headed and needing an obvious alpha or they will try to take the role. So not gonna increase his testosterone again. I knew when i got him his life expectation was 8-10 years maybe 12 if I am lucky. With how he is still acting very puppyish and full of vigor I am hoping for the latter.

Beautiful dog but they sure massacred her ears.

12/7/22 - Workout and Final Nutrition

Stairmill 6 minutes
Bird Dogs
- these were nice and challenging

Hammer Strength Leg Press Machine 120x20+, 170x20+ 220x20+

Pre-Cor Plate loaded Leg press - 8 plates x 20, 20, 20, 16
- rest less than a minute - No lockout, constant tension and just getting some good pressing volume in. Stopped at 16 on the last set because I didn't want to have to push that hard to complete the set with the cumulative fatigue setting in. Just keeping the lower back safe. I was also very careful with ROM so my back stayed in correct position.

Super Set
Adductors - 205x20, 235x20, 235x20, 20, 18
Abductors - 175x20, 190x20, 205x20, 225x18, 15

Super Set
Seated Leg Curl 50x20, 20, 20
Leg Extension 150x15, 15, 15

Leg Raises 3 sets of 15

Just worked on getting some volume through the legs and making sure I could brace during pressing. Got a great leg pump from this session. So calling it a success.

Nutrition last night was right in range again.

12/8/22 = Fasted Cardio

Elliptical - 45 minutes + 3 minute cool down = 608 calories

It felt really good to get back on the elliptical. I feel like it loosened up my lower back a little bit.

About to scarf down some spaghetti meat sauce, 8oz of 93/7 ground turkey and about a half cup of marinara. No sides.

12/8/22 - final nutrition - Numbers are right in range again.

12/9/22 - Morning Weight 215.4 - still heading in the right direction down from 216.2

Will be hitting up an upper body session at lunch.

Having a new driveway poured today and tomorrow. Been waiting a while to get this done so pretty happy but it will keep me out of my garage over the weekend. So the rest of my workouts will likely be at the commercial gym.

12/10/22 Morning Weight 215.6

Ended up moving my training to today. Work got chaotic and I didn't get lunch and already had other things to do in the evening.

Upper body Garage session

Quadruped shoulder and core warmup complex

Super set
Push ups - 12 x 5 sets - the last 2 sets were challenging. Up from 5 sets of 10
Recline ring rows - 12, 12,10,12, 10 these were very challenging.

Super set 2 higher rep.effort
Iron tec Chin grip lat pull downs - 70x RPE8 X RPE9, X FAIL - these light up the biceps with the angle of pull
Iron tec dip attachment 135x RPE8, X RPE9, FAIL

SUPER SET 3
PINWHEEL Curls - 30x12 , 30x10 left only 30x7
Rope Triceps Press down - 70x8, x8, x8

DB lateral raises 10x35

DB oH Triceps ext - 30x 17

Super Set 4 x 3 sets
Incline bench Alternating T and Y chain raise - 44lb chain x fail
Arch supported Crunches x fail

Calories and macros are still where they need to be. I will post them when I get on a computer.

I was very happy with pushup progress, likely going to start doing some daily even if just one set. Rows are a little more challenging so going to keep working those as well. I think basic body weight should be good for me right now. Been stepping things up regularly testing the shoulders ability and happy with how things are progressing.

Driveway looks great still a little dark while curing and dang it if the leaves didn't fall on it almost immediately.

I mentioned a while back those aren't my actual caloric goals just what I had set up previously. Now I am doing build and burn days. So on my Build days I am shooting for 2500-2800, and on Burn days anywhere from 1300-1900 previously but since I decided to slow things down to more of a recomp I have allowed a little more calories on the burn days so I can grow a little more throughout the rest of the winter. Still leaning up just a little slower.
Good workout…..looks like that shoulder is doing well.👍
Yes Sir! It bitches some in the still sensitive parts after each workout but nothing bad.

Switching to my phone so I can go to the room with the lovely wife. Will finish todays update there.

12/12/22 Lower Body

Warm Up = Maxx Trainer x 6 minutes
Rotary Torso Twists
- 2 high rep sets to wake up the core

Abductors - 190 x RPE 8-9 x 5 sets - just getting some volume and in and getting the glutes firing

Hammer Strength 45 degree leg press - 4px15, 6px15, 8px15, 10p x15, 15, 15, 15 - the last 3 sets got pretty challenging, the normal Leg press I use is about a 35 degree so this one is harder. Even with that I was able to go up higher for reps, so my lower back is definitely improving.

Hyper Extensions 5 sets of 8-12 reps RPE8-10 - Getting the lower back engaged safely, performed with a lot of control, ended up trembling while holding at the top for a couple second per rep.

Crunches 4 sets until almost cramping

I am happy with this session, I got what I needed to get done done. Showed a good bit of improvement as far as my lower back. I think I will be ready to give some squatting a shot when I get back from my anniversary trip with the wife. Nothing major at first but getting a little weight on my back nonetheless.

Legs were ridiculously pumped and I left the gym walking like Frankenstein so was happy with this one. I chose not to do any leg extensions as my tendon over my knee is a little tight from going heavier and pushing them harder while not squatting. I think the rest and some extra calories while on my trip will allow for some recovery and maybe even a little more growth during the rest time. I highly doubt I will take any time to go to the gym during our trip. At most maybe some push ups and bodyweight lower body stuff if that. Diet will be free during these days but I will likely incorporate some fasting unless the wife wants to go get breakfast. That will at least give me more room for calories for lunch and dinner.

Whenever my wife and I go on a trip, I typically resort to push-ups and I take a pull-up bar that goes over the door. She’s used to it after 28 years of marriage. The most important thing is enjoying each other while having fun and getting in a little rest and relaxation.

Yeah, I am pretty stoked about the trip, and we got an AirBnB with a nice hot tub so it will be great for both play time and some extra relaxation. Inevitably even though visiting another city we will opt to spend most of one day just chilling with each other watching movies and hopping in and out of the hot tub. The house is in a business / industrial district and says once work hours are over there will be no one around us at all so really looking forward to it.

Also yeah I should probably check into one of those over the door pull up bars but we don't travel often where I don't have access to a gym and I have a multi-grip pull up bar mounted in the garage as well as one on my power rack. I used to have one of those ones you screwed in but I bruised my tailbone and almost broke my nose doing a pull up when it decided it was going to slip out of the door jam.

Since you were asking in my log, TRX is actually a really convenient way to workout on the go since it doesn't take up much room and you can attach in a door or hang around a tree trunk, etc.

bowchicka wow wow!

are you guys basically travelling around Christmas time as well then? that's when my wife and I are headed out for a few days and I've already asked her to go to the gym with me (if she wants) on my guest pass when we are out lol 😂 But in a week of travel it will be like... 2 gym visits probably and a lot of junk food.

Great point, I forgot I had a special loop with my set for over door and could have brought that. I brought my pack f bands for anything I might want to do outside of push ups.

Just anniversary, which is tomorrow, the big 20. We will be in New Orleans through Sunday. I jokingly mentioned the gym. She was like you can go, I ain't going to the gym on my vacation trip. LMAO. I told her no, the trip was my focus, and I might do a little something at the house but wasn't taking time out of our trip to go to the gym.

haha too funny man. our last trip down to MX my wife said the same thing. she packed clothes like she'd workout but enjoyed morning coffee in the sun too much to hit the weights with me 😂

never been to New Orleans, sounds like a blast, and congrats on 20 man that's awesome (y)(y)

I don't have macros for yesterday. My boss took us out to lunch, then we ordered Chinese to treat the kids before we left. I kept everything pretty slim, grilled chicken breast, red beans and rice and some cornbread for lunch, then steamed chicken and veggies with brown rice and garlic sauce for dinner post workout. Then a protein shake to get the protein the rest of the way up. I would assume calories were around 2200 for the day.

12/13/22 Upper Body

Quadruped Shoulder and Core complex

Shoulder Press - 60xRPE8-9 x 5 sets

Scap Pull Ups 5 x 4 sets last was RPE9.5
- very challenging work here.

Wide Grip Pull Downs 70xRPE8-9 x 3 sets

Chin Grip Lat Pull Downs 70xRPE8-9 x 4 sets

DB Side Raises - 17.5x15 x 5 sets

Rope Triceps Press Downs - 70xRPE9 x 4 sets

DB Curls 25xRPE9 x 2 sets

Band Pull Aparts 20 x 5 sets

I was very happy with the session and was pumped to the gills!

12/14/22 Morning Weight 216.8 - Happy with this weight with current dietary changes I am getting exactly what I expected. A little leaner but a lot fuller.

Enjoy your anniversary! Happy 20!!!
Thanks and will do! I doubt you all will hear much from me this weekend. If I am under 222 when I get home I am calling it a big success!

And a stash of bands. So many things you can do to maintain on vacation. If I traveled more, I’d have a rack attached to my truck like Duffin does.

Yes, I use mine pretty routinely since I workout at home. I finally reattached it in my new home gym set up, so consistently using again. May not be as useful for some of you powerlifting types though.

12/19/22 Morning Weight = OUCH GET OFF OF ME!!!!!

Okay actual weight was 230.8!!!!
I am up over 12lbs total since I left.

I have to say that I am surprised to have gained that much. I didn't realize I had the tissue to fill up to over 230lbs. To be fair I am holding a lot of water. The food was amazing but so much seasoning and so many empty carbs in the drinks I just bloated right up! My legs are so thick right now I have to walk around my adductors, and my calves are so big my jeans keep getting caught up on them showing everyone my ankles. LMAO. Not complaining just calling it like it is. It was the break I needed and now I am ready to push things again.

Today is a much needed cardio day, going to get in there and start burning some of this off. I am going to keep food very light today to give my digestive system a bit of a break. I abused it with some amazing food, lots of spice and more fat than I typically ingest in 2 weeks. Contemplating a day or so of keto with some protein shakes for recovery then possibly hitting up a day or two fast. Also considering going ahead and starting the trim down, I think if I have enough tissue to hold on to 230lbs without looking like a total mess, I have enough to cut down to a relatively impressive 200-205 as well.

ahahaha 12lbs is an impressive amount of water retention my man. my money says 1 week of your normal lifestyle knocks like 80% of that off pretty dang quick

Yeah it is, considering I wasn't exactly low carbing it before I am surprised I had that much room to hold anything. I agree, just returning to my regular programming will do the trick for sure over the course of a week. However still going to give myself a digestive break for a day or two. I can feel I overloaded my digestive track and it needs a couple light days to catch up and recover. I would go straight into a fast but pretty sure that would be miserable right after a period of overfeeding.

I will be taking my last shot of my blast on NYE. I think at that point I am going to start doing some extended fasts to start cutting some fat. Hopefully that will speed along the recovery on my lipids and whatnot from the blast. I have a physical in mid February so it will give me a little over a month to bring a lot of that stuff back down into healthy ranges.

I forgot to mention I surprised the wife with a new exhaust for her 350Z. A little while back we were at the mall and a 350z with an exhaust drove by us. When she heard it she was like "Why doesn't my car sound good like that?" So while we were out of town I had my son go put a new y pipe and 2 magnaflow mufflers on it. When we got home while she was grabbing something out of the back of Flex I started up her ride and let the cold start rip. It has a really nice deep sound. We left the stock resonator on there to keep it from getting raspy since it is a 350z, they can get obnoxious easily. However I, and more importantly she is happy with the way it sounds. You should have seen her face when it started though. She was like wait, what is happening right now? LMFAO!

Next surprise, sneak it away to have it sport tuned!

About to smash an espresso and wait a little bit, and go get on the elliptical. I bet this is gonna be a rough cardio session. Wish me luck!

right on dude. the car I miss the most was is my 2005 CTS-V. 400/400, I straight piped that one and it sounded like a BEAST. 3rd gear till 90mph. My wife says that she and the neighbors do not miss that car pulling out of the driveway at 5am though lol.

This is why I have my secondary cat put back on, well a high flow one but it was just too loud to park it between my house ans the neighbors. It created an echo chamber that would wake my wife up when I was on my way to the gym in the morning. I can't lie though, I continuously think about taking it back and having it removed again and just parking where my exhaust is out past the end of our house so it doesn't cause that echo.

I wanted a CTS-V for a long time. Still wouldn't mind it as a toy, but would have to go forced induction if I were to buy one now. The horsepower gets so insane with them so fast.

That’s really cool…..always good when you can do something for the wife and you like it as much as she does.

The CTS-V is a beast ……the times it posted at the Nurburgring, in Germany, is wild for a sedan.

Yeah, I told her originally when we got the roadster that she should let me set it up for full on performance since she was having me stay in an SUV. However once she got it she was like it is fast enough, it sounds good enough, it handles well enough... So happy she is willing to let me fix it up a little. Now the tune she probably won't be privi to when that happens it will be, I am taking Z for a tune up. Then will be wow, I just got a tune up, you really think it is running that much better? Of course she is pretty smart so I think she will know better but by that time you think she will want to give up the extra 30 HP to the wheels and better powerband? I think not!!!! After that when we replace the struts I will have to sneak on a sway bar since I know she won't want it lowered. However, none of that happens until I get Flex lowered. He deserves some extra attention!
