Kleen - Project 50: Under Construction

The wife got some spray (like Pam) olive oil we use that but very little. (just enough to get some garlic powder to stick to them)
That was one of my thoughts as well. Not exactly easy to get coverage tossing stuff like broccoli and cauliflower without using a ton of oil if just pouring / drizzling over then mixing well.

Had a good lower body last night. The knee wasn't perfect, I had to work myself into it got the knee cooperating and then did some work.

Stairmill Warm Up 6 minutes - focused on pushing the stairs down not just stepping up to get everything firing.
Hip Thrusts 3 sets of 5 with 5 second hold

Leg Press
6p x12 x 2
8p x12
10p x12
12p x 10
14p x10
16p x10 RPE9
16p +25 x6 True RPE10 grinder - Up 50lbs

Abductors - 115x15, 165x10, 180x10, 195x10, 210x10, 225x10, 240x10

Adductors - 150x10, 180x10, 195x10, 210x10, 225x10, 240x10, 255x10

I had to find the right stance for my knee so I wasn't adding extra stress to where it was tight. Took a couple sets of paying attention then stepped up until things got really hard. I went to start on leg extensions when they announced that the gym was closed. So it was time to go. I really pushed the weight on everything within my current capabilities. Definitely consider this a good and productive workout.

Curious, how do you guys account for the fats used when roasting veggies?

Similar to rocket, I often use Pam. When using oil, I weight out the amount I think I’ll use in a cup and use it all. No account for anything lost in cooking.

Hey guys, sorry was on vacation, Mom came to visit so was spending time with her and getting force fed Mom food. LOL I had to tell Mom to stop making a dessert with every meal when she told me she was making peach cobbler the day after making us a triple fudge chocolate cake. I told her last night that as of today I am back at work and going back on my diet. So I wouldn't be able to keep eating what she was cooking. I have not seen so much butter used in years. Although I am having some of that cobbler when it gets made!!!! CUZ... PRIORITIES!!!!:)

I got in 2 upper, and 2 lower body lifting sessions and 3 cardio sessions since my last post but did not record any of it. Mostly, I did what I could comfortably, or somewhat uncomfortably. The knee has been recovering from the little tweak on squats. Not alarming as it improves a tiny it daily.

Upper body both sessions - Just did what I could at the gym - got in some effective rowing and pull ups, very light vertical and horizontal pressing, basic arm work. - Unfortunately the cortisone shot continues to wear off and the after effects of each workout linger a bit longer. Going to keep training it as often as possible up to the surgery regardless but inflammation is definitely a limiting factor.

Lower Body Session 1 -
Squats - worked slowly up to 245 for 6, my knee was still complaining a bit so changed over to leg press
Leg Press - 6 plates x 3 high rep sets - 3rd set started bothering knee, went to body weight walking lunges.
Walking lunges 2 sets of 20

Lower Body Session 2 -
Iron Tech Squats 185x20, 235x20, 275x20, 325x15, 325x15, 325x15, 235x20

Cardio = 3 sessions last week, 45 minutes each - Bike, Elliptical and treadmill 400-500 calories per session

I will weigh myself in the morning to see what the damage is. Hoping I maintained around 210 but if not at least I made Mom happy eating her love infused cooking. She is here for another 2 weeks so hoping to avoid most of the comfort food and make the best out of it.

So nice she is up an healthy now. She may have been frustrated with us when she left after we nursed her back to health, forcing her to do her therapy exercises when she didn't want to but she is very grateful that we did it now. It is so awesome to see her doing everything she couldn't before. Also having the clarity of mind to understand what is going on around her. The visit has really been awesome!!!!

I also wanted to update on the HELIOS and RELAX use, I just PM'd @Marne40 this very message.

"I will tell you what, the help from the helios has become more obvious as the shot is wearing off. I am eager to apply it in the mornings to get a little extra relief, and tend not to sleep as well if I don't use the RELAX before bed."

So that is saying a lot about the products.

Man I am so glad to hear your mom is doing well and you have been having that quality family time!

Helios really is amazing. After squats last Thursday night I was limping out of the gym due to my bad ankle, and I truly could not walk on it Friday morning. Normally I can hobble for 20 minutes and then as it warms up I can just be in light pain all day after legs, but this time I trained calves (in the hopes of strengthening this ankle) and the inflammation was crazy. I put Helios directly on it and wrapped it and was able to walk and go about my day (with lots of pain), which was gone essentially the next morning. The swelling was already gone by Friday evening even.

Scott Mendelson showed me his homemade Curcumin/DMSO transdermal he uses daily due to having one leg shorter where they had to remove a big part of his ankle after a terrible car accident. Helios does that same job without all of the staining orange mess or homebrewing.

Awesome news your Mom is doing so much better. And Mom’s home cooking will always fatten you up, that’s one of the ways they show love, but man my mouth was watering talking about homemade Peach Cobbler…..that’s worth cheating for right there.
And I’m another one here of the Helios fan club, me and my wife.👍

Agreed, you know how hard of a time we had with her stay and how unfortunately negative it got toward the end of it. I am so happy she came around. Originally when her mind was not quite all the way back she really resented us for making her do her therapy and do things for herself that he boyfriend always did for her which basically set her up for being even more disabled out of a lack of activity. Now she can't wait to get up in the morning and take care of herself. She sees it as a privilege to be able to do things for herself and others now. She is so cute now back to wearing make up and going to get her hair done. Spoiling herself when she wants to and enjoying life. Definitely worth all of the hard times it took to get to this moment and would be even is she still resented us.

DMSO - WHEW that stuff is no joke! That stuff kicked off my eczema hardcore the last time I tried to use it for elbow inflammation. It worked for the elbow but had me in a rash so fast it surprised me.

Oh yeah, I ain't missing peach cobbler with some Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla melting over it... OMG!!!! Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla has ruined me for all other vanillas. If you haven't tried it that is a must and if you haven't tried it and live in Texas, I don't know what is wrong with you... lactose intolerance may be the only acceptable reason. LMAO!

Glad your mom is doing better. Also glad the Apex combo is helping. TD curcumin is an awesome localized anti inflammatory. I’m the same way with Relax as well. It’s something I look forward to at the end of the day.

Well she got me with it last night and it was very enjoyable. I was still needing a little recovery before hitting the weights and was going to take a day of rest. However since she made it, I waited to eat then walked a few miles after dinner and dessert.

Going to hit legs tonight, hoping the knee is 100% again. I would like to get in some good squatting. If not I may just do some hex bar dead lifts to see if the shortened ROM helps and it doesn't bother my shoulder. If not I will do a higher volume of leg extensions and leg curls.

Maybe a light set of 100 reps at 45lbs squats ???

LMAO Sure!!! With all the complaining about knees the day or so after in that thread I might have to avoid that one.

Crazy thing I did a high rep challenge like this before it was 500 body weight Hindu squats in an hour or something like that. Boy was that a mistake! Granted a lot more volume there than with this challenge, but it destroyed me. Legs were sore for a week but my knees were sore for 2!

Oh I was just being silly with my response. Trust me I talk myself out of trying it every time I go into it to see how everyone else has done. :) I love a good challenge, but don't want to risk tweaking my knee unless with purposeful training right now since legs are all I can push with.

Speaking of Squats, I was able to get them in yesterday.

Elliptical 2 songs @ relatively high effort
Hip Thrusts 3 sets
BW OH Squats 15 x 2 sets

SSB Squats -
155x10
175x10
195x10
215x10
215x10
215x10
215x10
215x10

Whew this was hard work, doubling my reps really kicked my ass! I could feel the burn in my glutes and quads the last few reps of the last 2 sets. My knee felt a bit sketchy on the 195 at first. I did a 3 reps felt a little instability and discomfort. Re racked the weight and decided whether or not I thought I could tighten up my form to perform the squats safely. Decided to do some competition depth instead of ATG squats and was able to finish it up without any more real concern.

Shoulder was crusty last night, really interrupted my sleep unfortunately. Even with the RELAX it was still complaining. I put 5 pumps of HELIOS on my knee a few hours after training prior to bed just to keep it from getting too inflamed. Seemed to help, I could feel a tiny bit of stiffness and tenderness when I woke up but nothing that makes me feel like I did anything wrong. I slathered the old knee up this morning when I hit my shoulder with the HELIOS and things seem to be loosening up nicely.

Yeah the first time I hit that 100 rep challenge that’s what slowed me down was the old knees, so probably wise call to hold out. You did get in some good volume on squats though.

215X10 is very respectable !!

Thanks @Rocket3015!

Yesterday was a cardio day but my knee was still recovering that last little bit. I opted not to do direct cardio but instead cleaned out the garage, got rid of some of the big trash since today was big trash day then went for a walk around the neighborhood.

Bodyweight is going back down relatively well. I gained back up to 214.7 as of Monday morning from the "Mom food" and was 211.8 yesterday morning even after having some of that peach cobbler the other day.

The shoulder is really starting to hamper upper body training a lot more now. The angles I am able to work at become narrower and narrower with each upper body session. I know it is the cortisone wearing off, but it is frustrating nonetheless. I really want to get in a good session on what I know I can do and then what I can do changes on me in an instant. That being said i made it work enough to get a solid pump and got out of the gym.

Warm Up
Rowing machine - 1000 yards
Band PAP
- Attempted but too much pain - aborted

1 minute rest period and slow tempo on all movements

Assisted Pull Ups
- -70lbs x10, 10, 10, 10, 6, 7 - I figured out it was going to be a rough one when my expected warm up became my working weight.
Assisted Dips - -70 x3 reps - aborted due to discomfort and obvious autoinhibition in left arm

DB Incline bench - 20 x10 15, 25x8 - aborted
DB Shoulder Press - 25x10, 30x10, 35x10, 45x3 - aborted

Decline Fly / Press on functional trainer - 40x10, 50x10, 60x10, 70x10, 80x7

V-Grip Chin up - 3 sets of 3 in between the decline cable movements

Machine Seated Row 120x10, 140x10, 150x10, 150x10, 150x8

Rope triceps ext - 100x15 x 2 sets

Post workout meal = Double meat 6 inch rotisserie chicken flatbread

This one was pretty frustrating but I stuck in there and found a way to make it a good session. Will feel out next upper session and decide if I want to just go to training the right side of upper body only.

What do you all think about me going full body with heavy leg focus 3 times a week? I am really tossing the idea around, I could easily get in a good 12-18 working sets a week on legs and touch up on upper body for maintenance in between sets or after I finish my leg work. Then focus on cardio the other 2-3 days.

One thing I haven't mentioned is that I have definitely gained some of my leg size back the last 6 weeks focusing more on lower body. Jeans are fitting tighter in the legs and butt while remaining quite comfortable in 33 inch waist athletic cut jeans.

I would say go for it. Just don’t destroy yourself because that’s kind of going to be your split post surgery anyway.

Hate to hear it’s getting worse. I think if that’s what you need to do, then I would go for it, but like Hyde said just be careful and try not to over do it….you obviously don’t won’t to cause more damage.

It's tough getting older, I have a very hard time accepting the fact I can not lift heavy any more.

Good point, it will be easy to overdo it at 3 times a week on lower body if I am not careful.

Thanks, it is just inflammation returning, which is frustrating.

Yes very much so, at this point I would just like to be able to lift with some intensity and no pain from injury. Doesn't have to be low rep range heavy. At least you look amazing, and can still make progress with what you are doing. I think getting to that point will be such an improvement it should hold me over for a bit.

Bodyweight this morning 212.2 - Weight is not really moving too much, calories were actually pretty low yesterday, under 2000 for certain, but I had a salty meal with lot of carbs and fiber last night too. So I am sure there is plenty water being held.

Waiting for a tech to get here to replace ANOTHER Lenovo motherboard so I can finally squeeze out for cardio during lunch hour. Got to love these busy days. :)

I sure things will come around for you!

Me too, hard getting super motivated for anything with the surgery looming next week. Knowing at best I might get a couple walks in next week, and Mom still cooking good grub this week motivation has been hard to come by. I haven't really nailed the diet down as much as I would have liked to have done. Next week I hope to take a few walks, but starting the 2nd week of recovery I will definitely bring long walks back in as well as food prep and go from there.

I got in a nice Full body-ish session Saturday

Stairmill - 10 minutes

Leg Press - WU = 6p, 8p, 10p x10
Work Sets - 12p x 10 x 5 sets - tempo kept slow to make the weight challenging while not pushing the knee too hard.

Upper Pull - Seated Cable Rows = worked up to 165x 3 sets @ RPE8

Upper Push - Seated Shoulder Press Machine = worked up to 3 sets @RPE8

Abs in sauna

Going to get another lifting session in tonight in the garage.

Is the Sauna at your house ?

Is the Sauna at your house ?
No, at the gym, but the garage serves as a good sauna too. LOL I am always nice and wet when I get done working out in there.
Good to see you in the zone mate!
Thanks!

Had another decent session last night. Nothing to write home about but got in good hard work and that is the goal right now.

10 minutes Elliptical

Lever Leg Press - 275 x burn x 5 work sets
- performed these nice and slow really focusing on squeezing the muscles in both directions. Making the lighter weight and pendulum like movement pattern really work for me. Took each set to where it was very hard work, not sure of RPE once you get into those higher rep ranges tank reps are very hard to guess but hard work is easily recognized.

Triceps Extension / Push Down - 50 x 4 work sets 20-10 rep range done to very hard work each set

Preacher Curls - 50 x 4 work sets 20-10 rep range done to very hard work each set

Opted to toss direct arms into the mix to give the shoulders a little extra recovery time while stimulating something upper body.

Goal of training this week is to get in some hard work, stimulate the muscle sufficiently and not cause any further injury. I would say this workout fit the bill perfectly. My legs were massively pumped when I finished, the quality of contraction was amazing and the effort was very high. The level set up on this makes it somewhere in between a leg press and a leg extension. Massive quad stimulation, and then the glutes really get it at the lock out where the weight is heaviest. Even though not much weight was used I can definitely feel that my legs were worked yesterday but also feel I will be more than ready for squats tomorrow as well.

Arms were also looking swole and full of blood when I went back inside after my workout. Just held on to a really nice pump.

Coming up on surgery quickly, going to enjoy the rest of my week and weekend then start my cutting after my surgery.

Oh I almost forgot to add, I just finished walking for a little over an hour out by the bayou during lunch.

Yeah the muscles will always tell you if you got in good work, no matter what weight is used.
It is definitely a good idea to work muscles near injured areas stimulating that blood flow. I firmly believe that helps prime the body for quicker recovery and healing after procedures.

Working around and injurie shows good dedication !!

Agreed and this is also why I put in work this whole time. I definitely believe continuing activity prior to surgery will help to speed recovery.

Thanks @Rocket3015 coming from one of the most consistent people on here that is a high compliment. It is really hard for me to do for sure. It is very hard for me to go through the motions with things but that is the only way to stay consistent sometimes.

Shoulder is a little grumpy this morning, I may have slept on it for a little bit or something. I had to wake up a lot to move to get comfortable and didn't sleep well. Going to get a lift in today, I was thinking about squats but I would like a good squat session before the surgery so going to wait until Saturday to attempt my squats in hopes the knee is happy and I can put in a really good session. Most likely going to hit up some leg press, extensions, and curls. Then add in some upper body work like cable cross overs and rows or something.

My legs really seem to be enjoying the extra attention lately. I feel like I have added / recovered at least an inch minimum to my thighs in the last 2 months. The legs of my jeans are all getting a lot tighter, and my glutes are filling back in which is awesome! I am expecting some nice progress on legs over the next couple of months with the increased frequency and focus.

Just wanted to update my workout quickly.

Bike - 8 minutes
Leg Press x 5 work sets 360-400
repped until hard work

Complex = 4 rounds - repped until hard work 20-10
Leg Extensions 140-190
Leg Curls x 100-140
Cable Decline Press 80-110
V Grip Chin Ups - BWx5

Walked out pumped and tired. Great little session!

I love that Pumped Feeling !!

Another rough night of sleep last night. I think I am going to go to Aarons rent-a-center this weekend and get a recliner for the next couple of weeks. Sleeping in bed is not going to be easy and neither will sitting around comfortably during the first week or so of recovery. Probably see if I can grab one for the month.

I have to go get pre-surgery blood work and check up today. So much fun. Getting excited and a little anxious at the same time. I am already aware of the pain I am in for from my first SLAP Repair. As much as I look forward to functionality without ridiculous pain, I dread when that nerve block wears off and I am relying on Norco to fight off the pain. Hoping I can get out for a walk during lunch today but that will only happen if I am able to set an Appt for tomorrow for my pre-op stuff. Otherwise I will do a walk in today.

Sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to for the accomplishment of the greater goal. It’s perfectly okay to have dread. All that matters is that you keep going forward anyway. It doesn’t have to be easy or fun, just doable!

You are a strong person and will make it through fine in the end.

Thanks @Hyde! It is hard to allow yourself to feel that type of fear and still feel strong. Have to remind myself that courage is doing what is needed in the face of fear not having a lack of fear.

They ran out of early appointments for pre-op blood work and the last one they have is too late for me to finish up and still get to the Motley Crue / Def Leppard concert in time so asked the boss if I could take the whole day off instead of half day so I can do a walk in in the morning. He was happy to let me off to get this stuff taken care of. It is great to have a good and caring boss.

The scheduling lady warned me I could be waiting for a few hours in the morning but that is okay so long as it doesn't cut into my concert. Motley Crue was one of the bands my Mother wouldn't let me listen too back in the day so even though I snuck my listening in I never got to see them live so pretty excited for this blast from the past. Def Leppard is gong to be awesome for sure, just hoping Vince can hold it together for the Crue!

I was thinking this week, when we had a “cold” front come through and it was 69 at 4 am, how I’m going to miss the summer weather this fall and winter. I would NOT feel the same if I was still doing afternoon workouts.

Goal of training this week is to get in some hard work

And you consistently do that, regardless of injury!

Motivation to us all !
Awesome to hear.

Sorry to not have gotten on sooner. Surgery went well, he was able to just clean up the rotator cuff instead of reattaching so recovery will be a lot faster. They cleaned up and reattached the labrum, but I can feel the most pain in the biceps where the tendon was moved. The pain meds have kept me pretty comfortable, but I accidentally let them wear off earlier and paid for it. Just resting this week, was hoping to do some walking but rain is forecast for the next two weeks and I can't drive to a recumbent bike or treadmill just yet.

Hopping off typing with my right hand only is a pain. Should be able to use the left a little more soon.

Being able to switch hands is always a plus !!

Glad surgery went safely & they got you taken care of! Stay hydrated, get your rest, once the immediate inflammation wears off I would start putting some tb500 or bpc157 in that delt. TB500 is totally systemic, and BPC works both systemically and has local benefits as well.

On to the next chapter!

Hey everyone, just had my follow up. Sorry for the lack of updates but typing with my right hand only is just not fun. Things are going as expected according to the Doctor.

I won't be able to do any biceps loading at all until 8 weeks post op. He stressed to me I can not even hold anything not even a cup if not letting the sling support the weight until he or the physical therapist clears me to do so. That where he reattached it needs to heal into the bone completely first.

I will be in the immobilizer about another week then can start taking it off incrementally at home while walking around. Doc gave me the okay for physical activity with the caveat that I cannot work up a sweat. Said cardio can be at an "activity level" like walking or stationary bike but not enough to sweat. My assumption is that he is concerned more with the biceps incision getting infected and going into the bone where he reattached it being so close to the underarm by all that bacteria.

I can also drive now so I will be going to the gym tomorrow morning to get my first bit of exercise in. Going to do some light walking or biking and then touch on everything else with a little resistance.

I wasn't able to order my bpc-157, or TB500 or any other goodies for that matter. Sage's laptop died and they needed one for college. So the money I had saved for the post op repair goodies went to replacing it. Going to order some this weekend hoping there might be a decent sale.

Also thanks for all the well wishes!!
