3/15/23 - Morning weight 220 up from 214 yesterday.

We had Mexican, with chips and salsa yesterday for dinner. Then a big funnel cake and 2 margaritas last night. All of it stuck to me. I am dragging ass today, got home around midnight and was amped up until 2:00, like not even a chance of sleeping. Finally just laid there with my eyes closed for a very long time until I finally fell asleep. I assume with waking up a couple times I got about 3 hours sleep, and I am feeling it.

I know some of you may not be fans but MGK is officially a Fuggin Rock Star!!! That guy gives such a great performance and puts on one hell of a show. Live the music is so much more raw, edgy in your face rock/punk! Guy can still rap his ass off too!

I have decided to call today a rest day. I will more than likely take a walk at lunch but going to rest today since I am exhausted and more importantly my upper back is still pretty toasted. A toasted upper back will not carry over well to a strong pressing session.

I was thinking a bro session would be on the docket for sure!!
if we do materialize this trip I'll keep you in the loop. I used to go to a lot of rodeos (farm boy) but it's been hard to hold on to my roots since I moved to Tacoma and met my wife. I told her if we do a TX trip I might want to take a look at local county fairs and rodeos so that we schedule it around one.
That would be so awesome. I have had one person from AM from California come over for a session, and then met one for a session in Arizona once while driving to California. It is always nice to meet people from AM and put that real life connection into play. Speaking of the rodeo, we laughed so hard at the Mutton busting last night. The kids are so hilarious. One held on completely on the side of one of them like some sort of trick rider but he road that bad boy to the end. Most of them just got dumped in hilarious wipeouts. Was too funny seeing most of them still getting their bearings as they got picked up off the ground and were supposed to wave right into the camera. They look dazed and confused then see the camera and burst into a smile and wave. A couple had a few tears but hey that is what happens in "hardcore rodeo sports" involving lambs!!! ;)

I have had 4 different AM meetups over the years (and I actually missed another member doing the same competition once!) that were a lot of fun. Would definitely recommend!

2 of those meetups was one guy, and the second one we actually competed together in 2017 - it was awesome. We were in the same flight and totaled only 2.5kg apart I believe. Our final deadlifts were back to back and we both made them!

Yep, I have done several meetups if you count people in my area. Jimbo and I used to meet up for workouts, and competed in the RPS meet together. I also used to meet up with Monte to train, helped him with his posing, and went to his first BB show to watch him compete. Monte, Jimbo and I also went to train together a couple times and then went and crushed food after. It is always awesome to get a good session in with someone from the board.

I got my Inzer Power Sleeves in. They are noticeably longer than my old sleeves. Seem very well made, I will give them a shot Saturday with squats!

Back is much more rested. I'm looking forward to pressing tonight!

Sitting at the docs getting a physical, bloodwork is next...

@SkRaw85 They felt pretty good and cover a portion of my quad tendon that normally is not covered so hopefully they provide that area a little extra support. They definitely have a little spring to them even though I got them one size up from the competition recommended size. Just raising my foot like a standing leg curl there was obvious added resistance so I might get a couple pounds out of them too! I can tell if I had gone with the competition recommendation I would have had to fight them over my calves but they would be a lot more springy too. I could definitely imagine they would add some weight to the bar at that size but probably would not be something I wanted to keep on the whole workout.

I just found out that the trial I was going to Austin for next weekend just settled. So I won't be heading out there which is great and a bummer all at the same time. I like visiting Austin and have friends who live there I intended to visit.

what's Austin like 2-3 hrs for you?
New toys are always a blast, are those 7mm thickness? I love inzer.
I once told my dad the Stanley thermos is literally the worst invention ever because if you buy one it will last your whole life and you'll never need another LOL. He and i still have ours that we each got in our teens for duck hunting 😅😅

inzer products seem just as good to me! My belt will last me until I either get fat or die

@Dustin07 Yes they are 7mm and have a really tough outer coating on them that makes it look like they will last forever! They are as long as legally allowed in Raw lifting for all of the major federations too so unless looking for that extra spring I don't think I will be buying any for a long time coming.

I really did like the way they felt being up a little higher on my thigh. hoping that transfers over to more quad tendon support as mentioned earlier, and a couple extra lbs on the bar would be a nice bonus.

I had an old Inzer lever belt for a while, it was like 6 years old when it got handed down to me and I used it for another 4-5 years then it got leaked on in the garage somehow and I didn't know. The belt staying wet for a while then expanded and the glue between the layers started separating but it would have lasted forever if that hadn't happened.

Yeah those thermoses are awesome, only way to destroy them is a massive drop or something breaking the inside. At least that is all I would imagine, but I haven't seen it happen yet.

Speaking of sleeves, I am going to put on my SBD Elbow sleeves tonight for pressing and see if they help. I haven't put them on in a few years. Hoping that A they still fit and B that they help with the biceps/brachialis not getting beat up. They were really tight before but I have a feeling my forearms are not as massive as they used to be. I have pretty gnarly forearms, and what fits my elbow and biceps is like numbingly tight on my forearms. Hopefully I can wear them for the entire pressing session or at least the bench portion.

Allegedly, those are the most gangster sleeves allowed in Raw competition currently. It’s a new material design and as soon as they came out people were like wtf & everyone has been snatching them up.

@Hyde Yeah you telling me that is what sold me on them. Also thanks for telling me to go one size up due to the size of my calves. They are pretty darn snug on them with this set and would have likely been too tight to wear for an entire workout if I went with recommended sizes. They definitely seem like they will outlast any of my other pairs. The material on the outside of these is definitely gangster and the hamstring contraction I got from just curling my foot up leads me to believe there is a decent amount of spring in them.

3-16-23 Bench

WU walking and rotator cuff band complex

Flat Bench - Bar x20, 95x10, 135x5, 185x3, 225x3, 235x3, 245x3, 255x3, 260x3 - up another 5lbs this week

CG Bench - 185x6, 185x3 First set felt easy but a little awkward on the right side, so I stayed with the weight to fi d my groove, but the 2nd set my trap and scalene knotted up.

I tried to find something else I felt I could do, but it was a no-go. So I stretched and rolled it out and called it a day.

That is the shoulder I haven't had fixed yet, and close grip can be tricky with it. So I will probably write them off until I can get it fixed.

Either way, I'm happy with the new high on Bench. I am getting into the area where I need a spotter or to set up the safety bars to go much heavier. I am pretty confident I have 265x3 next session.

I will do the rest of my session tomorrow. Slathering on some Relax tonight and some Helios tomorrow morning.

3/17/23 - Morning weight 213.1 - I am back down to the low end of where I have been bouncing around. Time to buckle down and keep this moving in the right direction.

Accountability time! Here is a pic of me from this morning ar 213.1. I am the same body fat as when I started February of last year but I am 10lbs heavier. Between that and my strength returning post surgery I would call the past year a success but now it is time to start focusing more on cleaning up. I have got my lifts back into productive levels and need to focus on aesthetics and health more now on top of continuing to push strength. I was getting a little to into the feed for strength and put back on about 2-3 of fat over the last month. I hit a low of 210.1 a little while back and was looking noticeably sharper in the abdomen and the psuedo-gyno was smaller both around the nipple and under the armpit. So I was much happier with the look. Getting the surgery got put off at least a year with some unexpected expenses popping up. So going to have to rely on dropping the weight to get rid of most of it. I am sure that will result in a better finished product when I do get surgery anyway. Then again if it isn't too bad once close to 10-12% I may just avoid surgery and keep my diet in check. Imagine that!!! ;)

Solid bench session! I wonder if utilizing a slingshot for CG would help alleviate any pain?
It is a little better but with the biceps tendon being partially sub-luxated it puts an odd stretch there and direct pressure on the area where my labrum is torn. When I use it I have to kind of force my elbows out for it to be comfortable.

I was going to say 2-board or shoulder saver pad, same logic - he may be good taking the stress of the bottom, or the last few inches. Still a big tricep stimulus and worthwhile variants for me!

Yeah I think I might have to try one of those. I was thinking of doing floor press also to see if that helped at all.

I forgot to mention the shoulder, neck and trap feel pretty good this morning. I mixed 3 pumps Helios and 3 Pumps Relax on it last night and this morning. The labrum is still a little sensitive so I will be careful finishing up my upper body session today. If not 100% for Squats tomorrow I will avoid stretching shoulders with straight bar squats tomorrow and only do the SSB which is the meat and potatoes of the session anyway. Then add in something else for accessory work.

I have decided I need a new flat bench. My bench is just entirely too high at 19 inches for me to get much leg drive, and has a bump in the pad to support the arch in my back that is annoying. I have to adjust around it. My arch doesn't even allow me to touch it so it is just an inconvenience at this point.

Going to bite the bullet and order that and probably some form of bench block or shoulder saver to see if that helps as mentioned.

Good to hear the trap and shoulder are feeling better!
I’ve found scalenes to be tricky and troublesome as I feel they become stuck to different activation groups in the pecs they weave through.
Holding a 20kg plate in each hand and stretching down while I wriggle into a truly neutral core is the only way I’ve found to stretch and even isolate (I’m pretty sure I can actually shrug with them!) these little muscles. 5 times per week seems almost the minimum frequency required for me to notice positive adaptations but hands down one of the best things I do for posture and general health.
Rig is looking solid mate. I’m excited for and inspired by your progress this year!

3/19/23 Squat and leg press

Warm Up = Walk 1 mile with 44lb chain doing various RC, shoulder and arm exercises with the chain

Low Bar Squats - Bar x15, 95x15, 135x10, 185x6
- First time putting weight on it in a while. Feeling much better, definitely loosening up the shoulders and getting more external rotation.

SSB Squats - 205x3, 245x3, 295x3, 325x3, 335x3, 245x3, 355x3, 365x3 - Another post Surgery PR here by 20lbs. Strength is coming back up quickly. I felt like this was about as challenging as 345 last time, and I went into it with higher volume from the low bar squatting. I did feel a little twinge on my left adductor with the 365 so I stopped there. Strength-wise I think I could have grinded out a 4rth on this one but that would have been it.

SSB Squats 365x3 - I wish Youtube wasn't automatically making my videos shorts. I only put them up to show you all and it makes it to where I can't even embed them easily.

IronTech Squats - 280x12 - Last couple started to slightly annoy the adductor so I called it on these and went to Leg press

Leg Press 225x25, 315x25, 315x25 First 2 sets were a true 4-1-2-1 tempo, but I sped the last one up as I got closer to the end to get the reps out. Quads were burning and ridiculously pumped at the end.

Went in and ate 3 ground turkey taco boats with fat free refried beans and greek yogurt as a sour cream replacement. Was a great meal!

I was running a little behind today and forgot to check my weight but guessing somewhere in the 214-215 range. I will be fasting today. Going to take a walk or do cardio at lunch.

I forgot to mention I liked the Inzer Sleeves in action. They just felt like I was getting a hug around my knees and lower thigh. I am not really sure how much weight if any I got out of them but they did keep me pain free throughout the session. My knees are a little grindy and bitching today but will be fine by tomorrow. Part of the reason I keep my jumps within reason. Got to get these other areas caught up with strength increases.

Nice squats mate! 365 with the SSB is impressive!
Thank you Sir!

3/20/23 - Fasted all day- 45 minute walk

3/21/23 - Morning Weight 213.8
- I will fast until about 11:30 then break my fast with a shake a couple clementines and an everything bagel with chipotle hummus on it. Then I will go to the gym during my lunch hour. With my shoulder a lil crunchy from the close grips, and my biceps tendon bitching. I am going to just do an upper body pump focused session, get blood into everything stimulate a little hypertrophy and give myself a break from pushing the triples.

at all weights or only warming up? I've found mine to be really sore with my warm up sets at 95, 135, 185, 225. but then once I break over 225 IDK if they finally are warm, or if it's that I'm having to work so much harder that I don't think about it anymore. I need to throw some sort of adductor pre-hab into my routine but aside from the adductor machine and maybe sumos (?) I'm not sure what to do tbh

Thank you Sir!

No, this was just this time for me regarding the adductors. I think it was just starting to strain under the stress and the wider stance of my low bar squatting might have annoyed it a little. I caught it and adjusted before it became a thing or think I did. So not expecting any issues out of it on my next leg day.

Yeah ever since I found intermittent fasting back in Holy Crap it was 2011... I have been a proponent for it. Hard to believe it has been a part of my life that long. I was going to guess around 2016 but went back to look at the Lean Gains / Intermittent Fasting thread i started on here and it was all the way back in 2011 a couple months after I started and I couldn't wait to share it with everyone.

It has always just fit and trust me when I started doing this it was a major slap in the face for anyone following the traditional bodybuilding / fitness based diet plans. Now things have just kept on growing and we keep learning and making it better and better for our goals!

Looks like Sage wants to come back out to the garage and train with me so going to go train tonight instead of during lunch hour. Of course they caught me right after I slammed a Bang pre-workout. So, I am going to go take a walk here shortly to burn some of this off and then train with them later tonight. Works out since I was planning a hypertrophy session anyway. Plus any opportunity I get to get Sage involved in something fitness based I am going to take it. I just keep hoping something sticks and I can get them on the self improvement train.

I know I've already said this, and I know you already know it, but it amazes me, just amazes me, the muscular and energy response to fasting. The fact that I have a positive muscular and energy response to a 24hr fast of 0 calories vs the depletion I feel from say eating in a deficit those same 24 hours.

Of course they caught me right after I slammed a Bang pre-workout.

3/21/23 Morning Weight was 213.8

Lunch Activity =
Walking up 12 story parking garage ramps, then down the stairs and repeating for 1 hour.

Upper Body Hyper Session with Sage - Each exercise was done increasing resistance each set, aiming for RPE8-9 anywhere between 10-25 reps.

MaxFit trainer - 2 songs - broke a sweat and got heart rate up nicely!

HS Chest Press x4 sets
HS Lat Pulldown x4 sets
HS Shoulder Press x4 sets
Hoist Chest Supported Row x4 sets
Icaarian Side Delt Raise machine x4 sets
HS Rear Delt Flies x3 sets
HS Preacher Curls Machine x3 sets
HS Triceps Extension Machine x3 sets

Ab Bench Crunches Feet Up x 4 sets
- just repped until I almost cramped each set.

Had a nice big protein and carb heavy dinner and called it an evening.

=================================================================================

3/22/23 - Morning Weight 215.2

I plan to fast until lunch today but going to keep calories and carbs on the lower side today anyway.

Great work getting in a sweat with Sage!! Amazing how that feels isn't it?
When my boy and I are training I'm half going easy on him, asking "do you want to stay here or try 5 more lbs?" and half hoping he trys to annihilate his body to see what he's capable of. Of course I have a lifetime of overdoing it, but what is more amazing in life than testing the limits of your body to see what it's capable of off the couch away from video games?!

what is a max fit trainer?

Ab Bench Crunches Feet Up x 4 sets - just repped until I almost cramped each set.
you're going to inspire me again.
last night my wife's xfit wod was a mix of two wods that used to be favorites of mine:

50/40/30/20/10
double unders
sit ups
with 6 snatches after each set. (RX was only 95lbs but historically it's a 135lb wod).

I saw that and told my wife I couldn't do it today. I'd crush the double unders and snatch no problem, but I wouldn't make it through the first 50 situps LOL!!! it used to be a 4 minute wod for me 😅😅

Yeah, I had to keep coaching Sage to not push too hard. I wanted them to be able to come back in and not be miserably sore. I have a feeling they probably pushed it too hard but it will toughen them up! :)

I really would like to spend the time to get good at jump rope, it just gets so frustrating. It is such an effective conditioning tool though. Would take me a while to get just 50 double unders. I can't even guess at completing the entire session.

So I texted my boy at school on a monday after a sunday session "you sore"? "yeah". "right on! that's your muscles growing!" lol so I'm working to program/condition him to favor the DOMs lol 😅

double unders... man I used to have a few mental cues and hacks for training athletes but I can't really recall what it was. When I first joined an xfit box I think I spent like 3... maybe 6 months... every day I'd hit the jump rope for 5-10 minutes before any workout for practice cause I was so horrible at it. by the time I was at my peak I could knock out I think 200 double unders unbroken and usually I figured it was like 100 in a minute. I think If I did that today my heart would explode and my calves/achilles would try to kill me for a week 😅

I LOVED these ropes. Super great spin and a nice grip on the handle.
Yowzas, at 65 a pop I imagine they are really good! Nice sizing chart on there. I think the ones I have been using are 9ft and always felt a bit too long for me. According to the chart that is correct.

they are a bit pricey but back when I was competing they were worth it, better quality and also lasted a LOT longer

Oh I am sure they are well worth it and would probably make learning easier. Just I have failed to get going on jumping rope so many times I need to make sure I am going to stick with it before getting something competition worthy. I can see making maybe a $30 sacrifice. Of course jumping with a low budget Everlast jump rope like I have isn't going to make learning any easier either.

for sure. for $30 or less almost any of these will be better trainers IMO
So many of them. I might have to pick a set up after all of my other purchases I have decided on. I just pick things up on the side here and there. I want a competition height flat bench next on my list. Tired of trying to get leg drive at high altitude... My adjustable bench is so high up.

3/22/23 - 215.2 - I walked the hills by the bayou for 80 minutes during an extended lunch, got a little sun flaunting my belly for Vit-D! ;)

Nutrition worked out to 211p, 60f, and 38c

3/23/23 - Morning Weight 213.2
- Moving in the right direction. Need to stay focused on fat loss for a while. No special treats this weekend. Keep the progress moving on.

Today is going to be a lower body hyper session. I will be working out with Sage at the gym so running through some leg press, maybe hack squat, adductors / abductors, leg curls and extensions. Going to limit them on the legs because I need them to be functional and willing to get back into the gym and legs can be a a deal breaker. They said they want to train with me and maybe do a meet when I do mine which would make me ecstatic but I have to keep them in the gym long enough to start seeing progress to even think that is going to happen. I sure hope so though it would drive a lot of motivation for both of us.

Speaking of Sage been really proud of them lately. They are doing very well in their cosmetology class and will have their Associates of Applied Sciences in December. Their instructors say they have a knack for doing this and think they will do well going forward. So happy with their progress and them going after a career they believe they will love.

I asked the wife if we could go to lunch today for my fast breaker. If so we will likely go to Chipotle and get a double meat burrito bowl to fuel up for the workout this evening. If not I will take a walk and have some stuff I keep up here for emergency food. Keeping calories under 2500 today.
