Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

Man I love it when you wake up on a Friday with a lot of energy….just makes that Friday workout going into the weekend so much better. I’m like you, by Friday morning I’m usually a little more drained and need an extra cup of coffee to get things kick started.

So Friday I had eaten 2900-3000 the day prior, so I can’t say if the MOTS-C made a difference in my training. BUT I only ate 1,500 calories tops yesterday, Friday, and had remarkably good energy all day. I mean I even drank significantly less caffeine, and in general hunger was lower.

That all sounds like more a product of getting fed the day prior, but we’ll see how testing continues to go. No side effects so far certainly.

Today (Saturday) is my high carb day and so far I do feel better than usual, energy-wise.

Dang. Its been a long time since I popped back in, you look huge bro 💪 Good lord

How much do you weigh now?

219lbs yesterday after 5 days keto, and 227 on Monday after my weekend carb up.

I competed about 5 weeks ago down as a 220. Weighed in at 217lbs and got up to 235 on the platform. I totaled 1,560lbs raw.

Solid bro. Traps and shoulders are crazy.

Strong.

I think the last time I was in you were around 250 or so? That's a big drop, what made you want to go down to the 220s?

Thanks man. I competed at 242 weighing about 255 March 1st. I did 5lb lifetime PRs on squat (650) and pull (635) in training leading up to it, but pulled my quad as soon as I came out of the hole on my third squat of 672 (628 was a joke & it was the right call, sometimes things just strain). So I had to pull my bench down a little and couldn’t bend my leg much to deadlift, but still managed to stiffleg 606 to break 1600 and make a juicy 242 total PR.

So since I couldn’t train squat while I healed, just made sense to lean out some with summer coming. Then decided since I hadn’t been down to 220 in over 3 years, it was time to collect some PRs and get in better shape. Put 115lbs on my best total there & didn’t best DOTS coefficient ever.

And now trying to lean a bit more so I can make the cut to 198. I have only done one meet that light, 13 years ago. Getting down there would be a big accomplishment, net PRs on everything, and again hopefully make the most competitive total yet. Then probably start putting some weight back - mass moves mass, after all.

+belt
430,457,496,523x1
363x5,5,10

Physically pretty well-prepared for this session, but I was upset from arguing with the wife prior, which always kills my will to lift. It was very difficult to get going mentally and keep the focus necessary to bring my full force to bear. Thankfully someone came into the gym, and that distraction made it easier to get into the groove - 523 was easiest squat of the day. It wasn’t fast, but I am very pleased that I squatted it perfectly. First time in the 5s since the meet 6 weeks ago, so it was time. Then I trudged through 20 reps of backdown work & called it a day.

Glad you recovered and was able to make it a good session. I hope things between you and your wife are good now brother!

Just felt like it was worth giving some honest context, because our training never gets to exist in a vacuum - it has to operate around real life. Some times, you just don’t want to do it.

So I squat hard as I could muster, then left.
