My daughters 17 and doesn't talk to me anymore because Im not cool I guess we used to be very close
 
No, yours is great. I am talking about superman. Didn't even want to scroll back up to see if that was his name. lol
 
Just stumbled on this thread, great idea. I have 2 boys, 9 and 11, they're my life. It's nice to be amongst a great group of dads. Thanks for starting this.
 
Hey nicksox15! How is fatherhood still going? Haven't heard from you about your little girl in a while. Still keeping up with your video project?
 
Hey man, things are going great! She'll be six months this month, where does the time go? We started feeding her rice cereal the other night and she's been taking it like a champ! Video project is still kicking butt, everyone I've shown previews has cried so that's a good sign!
 
And the most important thing, she's been sleeping eight hours at a time! Now if only she stayed up past 730, lol
 
Well, our little girl decided it was time to start walking over the weekend. Just stood herself up and started to go. She making it further and further between falls, but every time she falls she stands back up and goes again. I'm thinking this coming weekend is gonna be fun!

She sat down, leaned against my foot, and started scratching her own back. Lol!

She loves our rocking ottoman and demands to be rocked on it every night as she starts getting sleepy.

It's bittersweet. My daughter used to pass out about 7 or 7:30 as well, now it's battle to get her to go to bed by 8. On the weekends it's not such a big deal, but if we let her she would be up until at LEAST 11 p.m. And mommy is in Cali. for military training for the month so she wants to cuddle ALL the time, so I have a harder time wanting to put her to bed. She became a total mommy's girl, so I don't get as much time with her as I used to.
 
My son just turned 2 on valentines day and I'm lucky if I can get him to sleep by 10
 
I'm sure once she's a bit older she'll stay up later. We don't mind, we get a bit of adult time and switch off nights that we get up so actually doing pretty well on sleep.

You'll be happy to keep it on a schedule to some degree. Our deal has always been that bed time is X time and that is when it is mom and dad time. You don't have to go to sleep, but you are in your room and we don't want to hear you. The novelty of not having to go to sleep wore off in about a day when they realized they still had to get up at the same time. My SIL and some friends never put parameters around this and pay for it all the time with kids still up at 10pm.

That being said, we are a really social family and always have friends over or are doing something, so we are lenient with the bed times when we are with friends and family.

My sister in law who is a stay at home mom never put parameters in place either, and she said that she doesn't believe in nap time either. Her kids fall asleep anywhere between 4 and 5:30 p.m., and wake up by 5:30 a.m. EVERYDAY. And she wonders why she's so tired all of the time. "You can't fix stupid"
 
It's sad because they'll end up paying the price later in life when it is harder to control. Kids want and need structure.

Thats crazy! If our girl doesnt nap well during the day we pay dearly at night, lol

No doubt about it. Makes a gigantic difference in the short AND long term.

She is healthy, growing nicely and happy most of the time:)

Just had my son's 2nd birthday party today. We were out doing some last minute party shopping stuff, we got stopped by this lady who handed us a business card and said to call her, our some should be modeling kids clothes in catalogs and ads. Probably not going to call but THAT was a proud moment right there.

Doing great! Our daughter just turned 6 months last week. We've been really lucky as she's been really healthy so far. We think she's gonna have a tooth starting to come in soon, she's showing all of the signs. Hope it doesn't hurt her too bad! She's also really tall for her age, she's in the 90th percentile for height. We're not surprised, I'm 6'2 and mom is 5'10.
 
My boy just turned 1 and I still don't sleep at night:) He sleeps in the bed with us, big mistake on our part but hey although I rarely see the gym anymore and live on 4-5 hours of sleep every night I couldn't be happier! Love this thread and glad to see all of these dads here
 
I am just over 5 weeks out from having our first little one arrive. I am super excited but nervous at the same time. Any tips/pointers you guys have? :)
 
Yeah, just go with it and don't listen to anyone. You will be surprised at how fast instinct takes over. No one has the exact same experience and it even changes dramatically from each of your own children.

edit- I should say that is how I would approach it for the birth and shortly thereafter.

In general I would say two things:

-make sure you are a parent first and foremost. Kids don't need you as a buddy.
-regardless of how you feel you want to discipline, make sure you have an approach and stick with it. If you ever question if consequences are needed, hang out with someone's kid that hasn't had consequences instilled in their lives.
 
Don't freak out about everything. We've found that staying calm all the time with or kids has helped them to learn to stay calm. My brother in law on the other hand freaks out and so now his kids do too. So irritating.

Get your sleep while u can and during labor keep your throat out of arms reach from your wife otherwise you may get choked. Congrats as well

That right there sums it up! Especially with your first one. I had no idea what to expect or what I was doing, now whenever anyone sees me with my daughter they comment on how natural I look or something along those lines. You figure it out quick, lol.
 
Its definitely a learning process. But by the time they hit two you're gonna be missing year one. Year ones easy minus the lack of sleep all they do is eat, poop and sleep year two rolls around and its a whole new ballgame
 
And moving around changes things rapidly too. Crawling makes life a little more difficult. Walking and running just makes life impossible.

Yes, it is. It depends on the type of genetics and personality your child has. I'm tall so my two year old is 3ft tall, 29lbs and looks like he should be on kindergarten. This dude thinks he runs the house. I agree the first year is awesome. Once their mobile, it's a wrap. Good luck keeping them out of things. My 6mo. Just started sitting up on his own. I agree withw last few posts.
 
Haha, I guess it is a matter of perspective. I have a 2 1/2 year old and 6 year old and they have so much energy it is insane. I guess it's good mom and dad do too.

My 2 year soon does laps in our house. He literally runs circles for no less than 15 laps at a whack. My 4 year daughter just started tennis lessons after preschool so she tends to be pretty tired at the end of the day. But my 2 year old man, my wife and I are in pretty good shape, but he's hard to keep up with.
 
I wish I could get my kids tired. We actually say that we wish our kids liked television so we can get some down time. I know that is a good thing, but even an hour would be awesome. My oldest is in martial arts 3 nights a week, soccer twice, and swim club. She still comes home wanting to know what we are doing the next day. The youngest just follows her around like a shadow.
 
My son can do half rep pull ups grabbed a door handle while we were in GameStop(had to put him down cause he kept headbutting my bad tooth) I thought he was gonna run out the store but no he stops kicks his legs up and starts trying to pull himself up got a little more than halfway up about 5 times before I went and grabbed him

I have video of my 2yr old doing exactly the same!
