800 Dead Quest with USP Labs!!!

kabuki

Well-known member
This got started in another thread I had up a few months back. I'm on my way and will keep track on the progress here.

Tonight I infact made my first attempt at 800.

It was my first night deadlifting since I crushed my toe last month doing that 660x12 deadlift video. And have not lifted much (at all) the last few weeks with a timed deload around some family events. Also cycled off the Prime during the deload so with tonights success being AFTER my last Prime cycle I'm stoked to get started on my next cycle and see where it takes me!!!

Next cycle will start next week. Can't wait!!!

My progression after warmups went like this tonight:

615x3
705x0 got caught by bar whip halfway up by not pulling slack out of bar
705x1 super easy
765x1 nice and smooth
800x0
pulled the 800 off the floor but stalled below my knees.

BTW my weight upon waking this last week has been 216. Not bad for my first day back training. Ready to cycle back onto Prime/Powerfull/ and add JAcked to the mix!!!

also need to get some update pics as I'm continuing to lean out nicely with the USP labs stack. (the AP and Recreate continue to do wonders)

800 is on the way!

EDIT: Complete (3/14/09) in competition 801 @ 198 bw after completing a 810 squat and 562 bench...not to mention setting up and running the meet all day long.

Kabuki on USPlabs Jacked could be danerous.:bruce1:

You'll crush 800 on this stack... what an amazing feat for someone at 216!!

'Buki is a driven individual, the likes of which are seldom seen on the web, he will hit 800 and hit it soon, everyone else just buckle up and come along for the ride!

Hey, 765 at 220 is damn good! Congratulations! What kind of bar did you use?

Excellent! I've been stacking AP and Prime and I cannot believe the results. I'm a novice powerlifter training for the past six months but my gains have made dramatic jumps with USPLabs! You can break 1000! Go for it and good luck.

thanks....the plan is to do it in the 198's. sitting at 215 right now.

I use and Okie Deadlift bar. Same one I will use in my competitions.

You're a strong MF'er. I get looks for doing 455 @185, but I aspire to pull 515 again.

its a big goal as only 10 people have ever done it.

It's better to set lofty goals and fail, then set weak goals and succeed. There is so much more pleasure and accomplishment taken from venturing into territory that most are afraid to try. You're a scary strong dude and I know you can do it; remain confident and the belief within yourself will manifest itself to your goal.

Great post! All the best, Kabuki. Just do it!

Good one! Nike would probably not be averse to sponsoring Kabuki when he scales his 800 Dead Quest! :)

yeah K 800 is close if you've got it off the floor. any specific assistance exercises your doing to break though this barrier?

I started box squatting close stance for the lower back, which Louie Simmons says it helps deads a good bit.

interestingly enough....Nike is local owned here in portland (beaverton a portland suburb). Nike owns converse (the shoe that we all use). One of the guys I train is a bigtime real estate developer here locally so he hob nobs with all the big guys and knows some higher up guys in Nike. Apperently Nike was unaware of converse's status and use in the powerlifting world and he informed them of such just weeks ago. And we are now seeking a Nike/Converse sponsorship for our team.

anyway update is not training much last couple weeks with holidays, new baby, and starting new job and working LOTS. Got a bench workout and squat workout in during last week however.

Will be making a run at a good deadlift on the morning of 1/1 if i'm feeling good. big training day with lots of peeps showing up. get the year started in the right foot!!!

To support this i'm doing lots of band resisted GHR work and WOD for core. Every other week I hit the upper back hard with a variety of pullups and bent over rows. This has strengthened some of my weak areas but I think to break that 800 i am going to finally add some more hip strength. I may work in more kneeling squats.

box squats have always been a big part of my squat training.

new years day training.

Honestly wasn't feeling that strong. Only been on my prime cycle for a couple days now and just finished the first week at my new job with lots of hours and stress. On my warmup weights I was struggling with stuff I normally rep out, but all in all still had a solid workout. Hell I even missed an attempt at my last warmup with 605, but 645 and 735 felt better.

Pulled an easy 735 and then was just inches short of locking out 785. I was impressed at how well I did with how i was feeling.

It really would have been nice to break that 800 on my new years AM training session...but it just wasn't going to happen.

Can't wait for the Prime to kick in again.

Rest of Workout

Good luck in the 198's. The Okie bar is the best, IMHO. I use to carry mine to every competition when it first came out. Even made a PVC carrying case for it so I could get it on airlines with out having it trashed.

My best was 775 @275 as a master. Got 800 once in the gym but never pulled it in a competition.

awesome lifting man!

yes i love the okie as well.

785 moved pretty damn well last night but i didn't grab the bar good and tight before starting the lift so i could'nt hold it at lock.

Deadlift. Used my briefs which are one size to loose and borrowed a friends squat suit to try out. It was loose as well but a good fit for deadlifting allowing me to get proper hip placement.

You didn't miss by much, like you said you got it up but just didn't hold it. Your looking pretty damn lean too.

That was my initial thought, looking awesome! Still stong as hell.

my wife says i'm looking anorexic. I think i can still strip anothre 10lbs of fat but its going to be hard....hard...especially with all the work hours i'm putting in. no time for even a 15min sled pull and all my workouts cut short.

I may give it a run after this next meet in March.

yah my wife never liked me at contest weight, said I was too skinny. I thnk a powerlifter can get too lean. You don't want to go down much more.

Is that the meet you e-mailed me about, Chris?

It is. I will be the promoter as well as competing in it.

I like the challenge cause i'm a little sick:biglaugh:

Wow, I'm so going deadlifting tonight. Great job!

2171.6 @ 198

not bad for not even know if I was going to compete and just

also the meet was freakin awesome!!! I'm very proud of what I accomplished in putting it on. This is going to grow into a big thing here.

Way to go kabuki. That's an amazing feet at sub-200...hell that's an amazing feet period.

Of course, the question on my mind is "What's next?"

i do know whats next...but throwing that out is premature and would sound like I'm talking smack.

Just to note that this was no where near my peak peformance even at this meet. I was running around non stop for two days loading equipment/setting up and making sure things ran smooth at meet. I had a great weight recomp plan...but didn't follow through due to lack of time so went into meet depleted and dyhdrated. Here is the examples of my warmups (or lack theroff) showing how little time I got to spend on my performance.

Squat
315x3
405x3
495x1
wait 1 hour
650x1
730x1

Bench
135x5
315x1
495x1

Deadlift
135x3
405x2
585xmiss (yep!)

It is decidedly fact now that I am truly insane :crackhead:

anyway, one cool thing was how much everyone was giving me a hard time saying I was secretly going into Bodybuilding with how I was looking:laugh:

Sounds like a good problem to have if you're still moving that kind of weight.

Dammit, Chris; we are trying to scam people here at USPlabs, and you being a PL'ing monstrosity while cutting is ruining our image.
