I just wanted to point out (again) how refreshing this log is. I remember when eating every 2 hours was all the rage..."stoke the fire" for metabolism and all that...

Now we are looking for ways to eat less often...so interesting
Yeah it depends, fasting isn't optimal but it's good enough to build muscle, it's not black and white in other words.. The thing with eating often is to maintain bloodsugar levels. I think there's something to be said about mealtiming still especially during workout. Eaa and some fast carbs (preferably) cluster dextrin since it doesn't spike bloodsugar.

The benefits of fasting shine in a ketogenic diet, as blood sugar remains stable when all you eat is fat, for energy, and then when the body has run through dietary fat, it consumes body fat. Hence why someone that is fat adapted does not go hypo.

I could really write a dissertation about this, but suffice it to say: "No living creature should ever consume GMO products"

Also, to any moron who may feel the urge to chime in with "Humans have been GMOing for centuries!", I'll only say this: "The *definition* of GMO is taking genes from one species and placing these genes into the genome of an entirely different species -- selective breeding and hybridization is not producing a GMO"
isn't all corn grown in the U.S. now gmo? not certain but awhile back I remember hearing that all corn except popcorn was gmo-hopefully I am experiencing a case of misinformation or bad memory?

I personally still like 3 meals a day to easily get over 3000 calories.
Still much different than the 6 small meals that were/are recommended all the time...I feel and look better eating 1-2 meals...feast or famine

Sure but you need carbs to get the best effect. Blood sugar isn't everything, I'm just saying for growth fasting is not optimal. You can fast sometimes don't get me wrong but to be on a fast too often won't be optimal. Now everyone isn't here to be Arnold either. For burning fat it's different.

~98% of all US-grown corn is GMO. The only American corn that should be trusted is certified organic.

Preparing my meal:

13 eggs, cut grilled meat, sour cream mixed in for fat, 1 small bell pepper and 1 tomato to give it color.

View attachment 180003
Meal actually looks amazing. I have started rejigging my diet plan. Still planning on eating exactly the same every day. I'm still suffering from side effects from my last cycle so I'm just cleaning up my act. Not keto but much lower carb. My evening meal is now this, steak, whole eggs and mushrooms mixed with Bell peppers. Very similar.

Yeah exactly, horses for courses. Keto plus IF isn’t optimal for pure muscle growth but that’s not the sole aim of most in my experience.

Looking good naked tends to be pretty up there so then the whole body composition picture needs to be considered.

But where I think IF in particular is coming to the fore is overall health and longevity of life. It’s one of the common themes from the studied blue zones (areas with long life expectancy), Along with low glycemic variability, consumption of lots of plant matter and long daily periods of low intensity activity (walking, tending cattle etc
- I.e active but not intense lifting etc)

It’s interesting stuff. Fasting for sure though seems to be hugely beneficial for body comp and longevity

Someone was explaining to me how the glycocalyxs that clear cholestrol from the bloodstream are destroyed by high carb feeding and rebuild with carb depletion. Just that alone would allow them to replenish regualarly just with fasting before optimizing diet. Not to mention the break it gives your digestive system.

Exactly, not everyone is trying to keep the body as anabolic as possible 24/7.

talking about longevity, I wonder how fasting stands against just very lite eating, not for muscle growth but say staying skinny and never eat anything bad. The studies are always against the average and the average sucks let's be honest.

So after reading through what I fell behind on with this log I noticed a few things. HG great results! That’s a lot of weight to lose in a week. I want to try this at some point in the future. Also I read a lot of the stuff with you and DC. I understand you point of view with a lot of it. I also get why you talk about the reps on here. I was here for a long time, never was a rep. Even still I have been with chaos and pain for a little while now and still only offer suggestions for products I have tried and like. I can say one thing in general about AM that I don’t agree with... a lot of bad advice is given out. Guys will say whatever and nothing is backed. Occasionally we get an awesome thread, like this one, but there is a lot of garbage out there. I don’t understand when people say not to eat like body builders... that it doesn’t matter. Granted not everyone is a bodybuilder, but bodybuilders maintain a healthy diet rich in micronutrients and eat for muscle growth and fat loss. Mostly everyone I have ever seen post on this forum has those goals. I find it almost rediculous that people will say not to eat for these purposes and then be posting on a supplement forum. Looking for natty anabolics lmfao... Supplements do maybe 5% of the job. The rest is diet and training.

Saw it. Quality of protein source has an influence on optimal quantity consumed. Leucine content is important. Thanks for sharing!
You watch all parts? He talks about adding a few g leucine a couple hours after a meal to continue mTOR and protein synthesis.

Day 9

Getting flatter and flatter by the day, just like earth. Keto deflates muscles and now all the fat is exposed.
Not a very empowering sight when looking in a mirror. Like everything in life, it tends to get worse before getting better.
Not gonna sway from the way, even contemplating to do at least 1 day a week fasting again.

Yeah we know the effects of leucine. The problem with leucine is that it's just one out of 9 essentials. You need all essentials so I'd rather put money on eaa than leucine by itself, potentially use protein powder with more leucine during the day or add leucine on the side if I want more.

Watch the series I posted. They show studies that reveal it is specifically leucine alone that sparks protein synthesis, and can maintain protein synthesis alone without other aminos.

Salt is your friend on keto. Will change your game. Literally eat more salt than you think, and especially before a workout.

I'm on day 2 of fast, and went from 170 to 165.4. Numbers lowering in my case can be demoralizing lol.

I agree. It was not my intent to attack all reps -but it may have looked like it. It was directed to those agreeing/defending to wrong food choices -and training methods, yielding no progress over years. By doing so, they made sure to get along with everybody but were of no help to the individual.

Nutrition is the most important factor for all our goals like healing, hypertrophy, weight management.
Currently not using supplements like BCAA's EAA's, Whey. I admit they could be useful if someone has trouble meeting their macros for the day.
So yes, reps can be useful AND honorable. :)

The whole charade is over now, don't beat the dead horse any longer.

Ok, so speaking of protien, i have to ask, what kind of beef do you eat? Huge chunks of beef butchered in unfamiliar cuts and looking damn good! You live near a cow farm or something? Is that grassfed?

All free roaming cattle here, grass fed. One of the few perks of living in Bananaland. We share an open boarder with Argentina, its the same quality meat and I'm sure, sold worldwide as "Argentinian meat". Eggs and fish are from my farms happy chickens and fish (They are happy as long I don't fugg them).

I'm aware of this but there are more to essentials than just leucin. Leucine is a key player but it doesn't give you the effect you want without all the amino acids. There is also something to be said as I believe HGP mentioned with getting enough protein/food. If you eat like **** eaa is worth a million, eating good and eaa is just icing on the cake.

My before statement about not using supplements like whey is due to my current economical struggle. Had some encounters with the (in)justice system here, draining my savings- plus a national economic crisis. Perfect storm. Can't eat properties but have to pay taxes for them....

Smokers who are thin and don’t eat much tend to live just as long as non-smokers. BMI is the #1 predictor of whether or not smokers die prematurely.

My future thoughts on what to do:

Have my first carb-up planed for Friday, here the plan:
-pop cialis for vasodilation
-go training with pump in mind
-intra shake with salt, glycerol and sugar (Hyperhydration protocol)
-after that, white pasta binge 30 minutes after training
-then sleep and see how I look on Saturday.

What do you all think about this?

Absolutely agree. EAA, BCAA, and supplementing with Leucine is moot compared to a proper diet that reaches protein and macros goals alone.

Compare to food your right, but Don’t discount eaas all together. There is a lot of benefit they can have, especially during or in conjunction with fasting. For instance instead of breaking your fast with food... have. A large serving of eaas and electrolytes. Calorically would continue the fast and still protect muscle to some extent.
