Also pulled incline bench for the remainder of this block and will do 2 board press. Seems to be my weak spot that 3” mark off the chest.

Man on the struggle bus yesterday and today just kinda in a funky mood and highly NOT motivated.

Good job pushing through while struggling!

Another busy weekend, got material to get the rest of the slab done. Tedious work and takes forever when it’s not a crew of 3-4 guys 😂

I’ll get some pictures up this week, hope to be pouring concrete end of the week.

Change up from normal Monday routine. Good tunes had good food today so the body was fueled to go.

Also have a bit of a rant, going to save that for tomorrow morning as it’s late and need to hit the shower and get ready for bed.

So I have simmered down from yesterday evening but still annoyed.

So here’s my rant. It’s one of the neighboring pastures. Not sure who leases it but I’ve seen out of state pickups there a few times. But they run cattle on it. Notoriously people time and breed there cows so they calve in March/april. These people not sure if they just buy cows at the sale barn or what the story is but they have like 30-40 and they are just now calving.

They seem to be on a once a week basis on checking on them they had one die a month ago that laid by the road forever. Well yesterday noticed another dead one. The part that really got me was she had had a calf, he is maybe 2-4 days old. So last night we drove by just in a cruise and the whole herd is at the far end and this poor little guy is staying by his dead mom/cow. So it got the better of me I decided I was going to see if I could either just grab him and bring him back to are barn and bottle feed him untill I could either see those people or get a hold of them.

Well he is just old enough that he can run and was not interested in being caught out in the open. So then I just tried to herd him towards the herd but he would just circle back to where she was. So finally I just had to let it be.

But just highly upsets me. They should be checked on in my opinion every day. Not just for the sake of taking care of the animals ( which should be #1 priority). But also the fact these things are worth 4 grand a pop and a cow calf pair is like 6 grand. So financially you are losing money as well.

Just really rubs me wrong 😑

Rant over.

Its really bizarre to be a farmer and not see the importants/value in your herd. My wife and I talk about that all the time. Even with our cows at mom and dads, and my chickens, their health and happiness is so important to us despite the fact that yes we will indeed butcher them. I don't understand farmers who watch their animals die and dont' tend to them, I wasn't raised that way.

it happens of course, I lose about 1 chick every time I do a big new flock. but thats like within day 3. I can't remember the last time we lost a calf.

and yeah the price on beef is absolutely insane. my pie in the sky dream (lottery) is basically to do what they're doing, but hopefully better. leased or owned land (bigger than ours) and run cattle. maybe a nice tiny home for full time keeper if its not at our place or close. I've even thought about large swatches of land on the east side of our state where its like 90% cheaper and just getting the land close to other ranchers so I could lease the land to them and have them work it.

Probably best you didn't catch him people like that tend to be jerks and you "saving" the calf would have probably just caused you a headache.

I had a similar thought based on my own experiences but not knowing Kansas culture much i have no idea. back home we would have to help people get animals back here and there, but where my wife and I live now if I see someone weird on my property I grab the 9 just in case.

Yeah hindsight it was not the right move but that part was overlooked in the moment
Well when you see a helpless baby that is probably going to end up passing, your heart is likely to take over. That's a good sign you aren't a cold hearted SOB!

Update the calf did make it through the night, called one of the other ranchers and got the guys number and let him know the cow was dead and there is a calf with her that needs saving. Also let him know that I drove in his pasture and told him I was doing a wellness check on it to make sure it was okay.

Hopefully they will have someone go up there and start feeding that baby. Job well done on following through, and letting someone know.

man I don't know how you're building a whole damn house. I've been working out the details on a small 3 stall barn. I figure I'll need 47 x 10ft logs. I doubt I'm going to pull this off but I'm still working it.

man its pretty awesome. I've been looking at plans, working on schematics and parts lists with ai, watching youtube videos. then at one point I sat and thought about and thought man thats actually a pretty big structure. lol.

At that was just the shell and layout for room sizes and bathrooms. I’ll have all the interior to scheme on how I’m going to build and construct coming up next 🤣
