I slept in 2 hours this morning, I never do that!! But I felt pretty darn good all day, so I guess my body just need it! Needless to say no walk or workout.

I did have a Blood Draw this morning WBC up to .04 - Platelets up to 24, they are going to keep doing Platelet Transfusion till I get over 30. They really would like to see them at 50 but I think they are just being realistic. So I have another Transfusion schuleded for tomorrow morning, and more Blood Work on Monday morning.

I went to the Chiropractor again today, and I do think she brought me some relief. I felt some stuff moving in my hip that I have never noticed before ? We will see !

That's nice. I know there's a lot of benefits to fasting in general but my appetite can't handle it

I have never really tried "Fasting" but I have had to do it for Blood Work and Medical Procedures. I wet about 24 hours one time and I was surprised I like thru it. I think it is more of a mental thing for me. Who knows, maybe some day!

I think keeping my carbs lower is helping me shed some of my bloat/water weight, but mu ankles and feet are still swollen pretty bad.

No walk or exercise this morning, my back pain was at an all time high! I believe my visit to the Chiropractor really aggravated it, but while I was getting my Platelet Transfusion I ask one of the Nurses for an ice pack, buy the time my Transfusion was done it felt much better and continued to feel better the ret of the day.

No doctor appointment tomorrow, I hope I can get a walk in the morning. Next Blood Draw Monday AM. We will see where the Platelets and WBC stand ?

Nutrition

Calories 1,626
Fat 63 grams
Carbs 100
Protein 157

I can live with these numbers! My youngest daughter is taking me out for Noodles tomorrow night.

Have you considered icing multiple times a day with one of the big ice packs?

I had to do that for my leg 3 times a day for a long time - it helps with inflammation and its important to do it even if you don't feel like you need to because that helps you kind of stay ahead of the pain.

When you say backpain, this is lower down than kidneys?
Are your kidney numbers okay?
I know they're not great, I just mean are they okay all things considered?
Have you had the chance to talk with your doctor and see their opinion on what they think the cause of the lower back pain could be?

I know a lot of ppl who do the 16hr fasting everyday and only eat in an 8 hr window. I may end up doing that eventually.

Have you considered icing multiple times a day with one of the big ice packs?

I have been doing it very sporadically, not near as much as I should !! I use an Ice Bag or sometimes a frozen Rice Bag my daughter made me.

I had to do that for my leg 3 times a day for a long time - it helps with inflammation and its important to do it even if you don't feel like you need to because that helps you kind of stay ahead of the pain.

I do need to do it more !!

When you say backpain, this is lower down than kidneys? - Yes

Are your kidney numbers okay? - According to the Dr. I am in Kidney Failure, but not bad, If you happen to know what shows this on a blood test, I'm sure I have that number.

I know they're not great, I just mean are they okay all things considered?- I that, yes they are OK

Have you had the chance to talk with your doctor and see their opinion on what they think the cause of the lower back pain could be? - I have been making a list of thing to discuss with him at my next appointment and this is one thing for sure

Steve, Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to help me. You are a true friend !!

I am so used to eating (5) meals a day, I guess I'm stuck in a rut. But after 40 years of doing the something it's hard to change!

My wife takes his Kidney XT, because she has issues from MS, and she loves it. She says it has helped her tremendously, she used to get a UTI or kidney infection monthly with severe pain, but if I’m not mistaken I think she has only had one over the last 5 months.👍

I think in this thread, its important to kind of look at things in context - and your situation is uniquely different than most peoples. Fasting doesn't help me, it actually makes me more prone to fat storage and muscle loss, but it does seem to help some people. BUT - you should absolutely not do fasting right now. Now is not the time for drastic changes.

It's like you said above - you've been eating 5 meals a day for 40 years - that's what your body is used to. Now with what you're going through is not the time to shock your body. If you were to try fasting and you felt worse - maybe you chalk it up to it being the fasting and the change to your routine and body and miss something serious that if you'd noticed otherwise you would have told your doctor right away. Conversely, let's say you tried it and thought it was helping you feel better - is it? Or is something else helping you feel better and you assume its fasting and don't realize what other medical variable may be helping.

I hope that makes sense.

I'm not against fasting - its like any other dietary strategy - its going to work better for some than others. I know people that have autoimmune conditions that say it helps them, and that's great for them. But I have an autoimmune condition and when I tried it, it sent me into a flareup that was so bad I could barely pull myself up into my jeep or walk.

It's about finding what works best for the individual, but now isn't the time for experimenting with a major change like that.

Thank you. I'm always glad to try to help in any way that I can.

The number that most doctors rely on for kidney function is your GFR but there are some others. I'll try to make a list to you and send to you privately.

I'm glad to hear that you're making a list. That has been very helpful for me with my doctors.

For icing, it was tough for me to be consistent with it too but I think it would be beneficial for you. You need one of the big ice packs that holds temperature for awhile to be able to get the most out of it.

I am not sure I’m reading this correctly, but an eGFR of 84 is NOT kidney failure. Like the parameter suggests, when GFR is below 60 that is when you are considered in a stage of failure.

Correct. Anything above 60 is considered normal
in the absence of other abnormal markers, like proteinuria.

I thought the same thing when I read it.

Rocket, have you discussed this with your cancer doctor?
Has he told you that you were in kidney failure or was that something a doctor had told you in the past?

I remember seeing you say it before so I'm thinking it was a past doctor; I'm curious if the cancer doctor has repeated that or if you've ever discussed it with him.

I think you should definitely talk to your cancer doctor, add this to your notes you're making - to ask him how your kidney function is and what had been told to you previously.

Chronic kidney disease, stage II (mild)
Added 2/17/2023

This is a note in my Health Portal, but it give no details ??

From the web: Stage 2 CKD means your eGFR has gone down to between 60 and 89, and you have mild damage to your kidneys. Most of the time, your kidneys are still working well, so you may not have any symptoms. You may have other signs of kidney damage, such as protein in your urine or physical damage

Morning walk about 5 am, temperature 73 degrees just a little humid. 2 miles, 54 minutes.

Nutrition today is more of an estimate, both lunch (Pulled Pork Sandwich) and diner (Haru Ramen) I had to ball park.

Notes: Yesterday my back pain was about a 10 when I woke up, to day I would say it was a 2 or 3. I kind of found a position to sleep in that really helps take some pressure of my lower back.

My eGFR is ~84 as well. That’s a very solid number with no concerns. What matters is that the number isn’t trending down.

(1) Oxycodone (5mg) when I wake up. 3-4am
(2) Tylenol (500mg) 11-12am As Needed

My eGFR is around 85-87 without proteinuria, at 52 years old. None of my physicians have seen any problem with this and didn’t talk about CKD. I’m kind of concerned but not them.

You could certainly look to talk to a specialist to get the best info from an educated professional, and I’m the farthest thing from that, but my extremely limited understanding is that as long as function remains as is, everything is fine.

It’s not really passage of time that directly wears out the kidneys. It’s blood pressure blasting out the delicate filters, exposure to medications/toxins, things like viruses. So if you live well and don’t experience things out of your control like unlucky genetics & viral exposure, and blood pressure stays low, you don’t really need to worry about function just declining inherently.

A product containing sufficient astragalus dosages does improve kidney function somewhat, but there’s not a ton else to actually raise function. The other things are more preventative (like maintaining healthy bp, which tends to climb with age and hardening of the arteries).

For reference, I verified something today for you and also out of my own curiosity.

Per Labcorp testing standards, eGFR is not considered flagged unless it is >59.

I think you should definitely talk to your doctor about it - but I think this is one of those times where the use of medical terminology being used for a clinical setting may accidentally seem overly scary to an individual if that makes sense.

For example, I went got a call one time about a heart condition I have known about since I was younger and the nurse said that my heart was essentially leaking blood to a minor degree. But when I met with my cardiologist, he said that that was to be expected in almost anyone over 30 and pretty much everyone that has my condition. He himself is one of the most athletic physiqued doctors I've ever seen and has a triathlete type build and swims every single day and he said that he even shows the same thing on testing and that its something he prefers nurses never even say to people because it scares them to death when in reality its pretty normal to a small degree.

I'm so sorry to hear that you had to have another transfusion but I'm very happy for you that you have a medical team that really seems to be on top of things. I've honestly never known of anyone to be able to get in for things as quickly as you are - that's a great testament to the doctors and team that you're working with.

Years ago I got an MRI for some really bad back pain, when I got the results (by Snail Mail) it had a letter that stated the cause of my pain was "Degenerative Joint Disease". When I called the Dr. and ask him more about this "Disease" he told me to relax it was just a fancy name for osteoarthritis. Thanks for scarring the crap out of me Doc!
