Do you take anything for bad breath? It seems to be the most common problem during long periods of fasting.

Nah. I'm married.
I have not noted bad breath. If its really bad, I would chew some zero cal gum, I guess.
I would advise no gum unless it's nicotine gum, as the act of chewing will stimulate your digestive system and hunger pangs will arrive with a vengeance.
Also, aspartame is neurotoxic and sucralose is genotoxic and both are probably mild carcinogens.
4 grams/day of sea salt, 2 grams/day of potassium (KCl, from “salt substitute”), 400 mg/day magnesium (from powdered magnesium citrate), 400 mg/day from calcium citrate, in distilled or RO or DI water, with a squeeze of lemon and a bit of stevia.
I just sip this throughout the day.
One of the biggest mistakes people make on a fast is overhydrating, which does nothing but slow fat loss and tank electrolytes.
One should drink only when thirsty and only a few sips until thirsty no longer.
Is all of this mixed in a 1 gallon jug of water?
Not using any, but I always thought sucralose to be "safe", because of that study:

I'm confident you mentioned genotoxicity for a reason. Is there a newer study?

Is xylitol ok?I would advise no gum unless it's nicotine gum, as the act of chewing will stimulate your digestive system and hunger pangs will arrive with a vengeance.

My wife ended the fast and stays keto until reaching her goal, currently making a soup from a fatty piece of meat. She is already lean, just wanted to get rid of a little bit of belly fat. 4 days of fast did NOT accomplish it. Sadly, the body chooses what fat is burned.... belly comes last, I guess.![]()

Nah it's like hundreds of pounds of fruits and vegetables during Harvest. Even with unlimited access to marijuana you still would never eat it all
Is xylitol ok?
Day 5
Last night I had a bad mental struggle. I was reading about ketogenic diet, looking at the nutritional profile of peanuts. 1 oz = 39 peanuts.
Somehow I got obsessed with the idea to open a bag of raw peanuts, count 39 and eat one by one.
The discussion with myself was like:
"Peanuts have fat, eating fat tells the body to burn more fat. Eat a few peanuts, it would not be cheating at all!" On my way to the cupboard looking at the sealed bag of nuts.
"If I open the bag, my wife will know that it was me. Can't deny then that I broke the damn fast." Going back into my office, looking up the fat loss benefits of peanuts.
"They also have fibers, diminishing their carb content! That is awesome, I even could eat more than 39!"....
This went on for about 40 minutes.
What you think?
At the end, did I ate them?
Did I eat them?
No.

Hey what does the scale say from start to now?
Day 5 -observations-
My wife told me, that now, since her 4 day fast has ended, she feels like 20 years younger. It was way easier than she thought and she never had that food craving, we all know, when eating not enough. There is clearly a difference between FASTING and STARVING. She continues with ketogenic diet. Honestly, she looked radiant to me in her summer dress.
My wife will do this in a caloric deficit about once a month. She will juice 1 meal a day for 5 days and by day 3 she is bonkers with energy and cannot stop talking about how great she feels. I follow IF, but there is something to be said about a severe deficit or actual fasting for days. We know the affect inflammation has on us, including hormones, but I think there is a lot more to it than we yet know.
Your wife is apparently right. In fact, all fasting enthusiast are. I'm now sold to it. Juicing may be nice "adventure" too.
Even though my fast isn't over yet, I can definitely say: WILL DO AGAIN! Did IF for a few month and it worked great for holding my weight, not getting rid of that stubborn fat. Guessing its also age related.
You know I am probably going to give this a shot. I enjoyed when I did the PMSF plan. FWIW you are most definitely losing faster than I did on a PMSF, not that it is surprising considering a larger deficit.
Right now: 5.5 kg lost. Yesterday it was 4.5 kg.

There will be the fact of overcompensation after the fast, like Spurfy mentioned. The day you backload carbs and up calories (after the fasting and keto phase), after strenuous training, you gonna blow up (in a good way). Read about it before. Spurfy gave in this log a short protocol how to do it, dropping a knowledge bomb.
First I have to get where I want to be, then I'll give it a shot.
Beast mode! Hell man you've made it farther than I could at this point. Nice work.Thank you! Its not so bad.
Actually, my confidence is growing by the hour. I will probably make it for seven days. Technically, its already day 4.

My #1 goal when I convince someone to give fasting a try (and I long ago lost count) is for them to fast and then for them go and convince other people to give it a try.
I tell people it’s hard because it is, but it also isn’t. Yeah, the first 3 days (2 days for women) pretty much suck if you’re not at all in ketosis, but after that you can just fairly easily cruise as long as you want as long as you have fat stores.
I discovered fasting by accident. In late 2008 I was planning to starve myself to death and started reading about how long this would take. Well, turns out that a doctor from the 1700’s already had this idea and set about to make it happen. By day 10 his depression had fully lifted and he reported feeling better than he’d ever felt before. So, I stopping eating and waited for my miracle — it came on day 4.
Now I once again find myself in a similar although much more dire situation and am planning a very long fast for March, because I do need another one of those miracles.
During you fast what supps you take - also do you have something written blog about this? Finally your last comments are you suffering depression?
Checking on the taste of urine?
Dropping pretty fast nice! Any visual difference?
I warned you not to poke the bear.
While he’s not vicious, he is nevertheless extremely persuasive.
I know for a fact you didn’t give in. I don’t need to read your reply to know this.
You probably told yourself, “I’m so close to the end! Why give up now?”
We all know what you are made of. It wouldn't be a challenge -unless you do also ice bath's daily.Perhaps a 4 day is all that I would need to get leaner but to experience the other benefits I think I will have to try the week. If nothing else for the experience and just testing what I am made of.
Besides a sad story -it holds valuable advise. Apparently fasting helps with depression. Good read!My #1 goal when I convince someone to give fasting a try (and I long ago lost count) is for them to fast and then for them go and convince other people to give it a try.

Mornings, urine is darker. After hydrating throughout the day it gets clear and smells like roses.Checking on the taste of urine?
Yes, belly is much less pronounced, face got slimmer. Will up a update pic in a few hours. My guess is, changes will be more- and more visible by the day, as most water is already gone now.
I realized that 39 peanuts -or 0 peanuts is no big difference -and wasting 40 minutes on thinking about eating them was plain stupid.
The bear is a Russian agent, influencing my my plan, damn.

Oh so is that a challenge!!!!
Honestly, I do have intentions of trying to start up with the WIM HOFF method which includes specific breathing patterns, meditation, and also ice water submersion. However I don't have a clue if that would even be a good idea. Now perhaps if I start by prepping myself by learning the Wim Hof method then I might be able to burn fat much faster during a fast. However not sure how well things would go activating brown fat then fasting... It could be quite synergistic, but I remember Spurfy mentioning that the chills come on due to the body intentionally making less heat as a form of energy conservation. From my understanding, the whole reason for elevated and activated brown fat levels is to create body heat in order to maintain body temp in cold environments or in babies that don't have enough body mass to retain the heat so they have to be able to create more. This is also part of the reason that people can lose weight from using cryogenic chambers, the brown fats get activated and also the metabolism has to kick into high gear to heat the body back up.
Spurfy, what are your thoughts on that situation?
Lemme know if youbgot any wim hof method questions. Ive been doing it for over a year and have a mentor whonis a certified instructor. I sometimes do an abbreviated breathing method before my lifts.Oh so is that a challenge!!!!

Update pics:
No idea why the updated pic is darker, not intentionally. I feel way leaner than I look.
Much leaner, it is quite obvious to the trained eye. I would guess the waist at the belly button is down at least a few inches, other things are much tighter. Looking good brother!
