Kat and Puccah's Strong is the new sexy log

I think eating right is the biggest battle...if you find you’re not dropping like you want then drop 1-200 calories. Do that for a week or two and then drop another 1-200...so much easier (and long lasting) than big cuts all at once!

This. Not only is it easier, it's also more sustainable. People that do the drastic cuts can't or have a very difficult time maintaining that cut. It's very easy to get burned out that way.

We took our kayaks today for this first time. Slightly windy but so much fun! Even got a good workout with fighting the waves and carrying them to and from the lake & house.

Edit: sadly no pics bc I was afraid to take my phone out. I did order some waterproof bags that should be in within a couple of days.

Kay, I know your Hubby in not into "The Gym Thing" so this is a great way to get some cardio and spend time together!! Have Fun!

puccah8808, are you moving toward your goal, 2000 is not really that high for you with you muscle levels and everything so if very busy at work on top of your workouts then you should be fine. Don't worry about a number if you are seeing progress you are doing fine. When it stalls bump it a little lower if needed. If not seeing any progress then you already know if you need to drop more. Then since you are saying you are getting hungrier you drop cals some, but eat more fiber as well to help satiate you.

Thanks, Kat! Lol, my days start super early and by 3 my calories are done and I’m starving.

I was going to do the drastic cut but decided against it, especially since my days start so early.

Thanks, Kleen! Definitely what I needed to hear after jumping on that stupid scale this am and seeing it bump up 2lbs. It’s weird, after gym day, the scale always seem to jump up. Also, the best part is that I am no longer consumed by the scale. The numbers do not determine how I feel about myself any more. There is no number I want to be at. I simply want to be healthy. :)

Good Attitude !!!

Went and got the injection in my hip this morning...No lower body work for a week. They do them with an ultrasound and some lidocaine. The lidocaine was nice for a few hours but as expected the pain is a bit worse right now. I imagine the first 24hrs will be the worst and within 3-5 days I should be feeling much better. I’ll follow up with my ortho in a few weeks to discuss the next step. If surgery is the route I need to go I will likely wait until fall. I will have to be out of work for 6 weeks and recovery is 6-9 months.

:banghead: Man that has to be frustrating. Just want to go to the gym make yourself better and then injury.

Been there too many times myself. Hopefully you won't need surgery. If you do you are young and have a lot of lifting ahead of you girl.
For me I'm not getting my shoulder operated on any time soon. . Been trudging through for 2 years. There are lifts I can no longer attempt, but over time I have found lifts I can do to get around it. Took some time but so far so good. Persistent self rehab has helped some.

Hip joint is a big joint! not like a shoulder.
Best of luck!

Hopefully you can avoid surgery. That said, if it has to be done, at least you know you'll be pain free when all is said and done!

Yeah hopefully getting inflammation under control is enough for it to heal.

Thank you guys so much! I am oddly enough mentally preparing for the fact I may need surgery. I have talked to two girls I know personally who have had success from the surgery and ironically enough the same ortho dr as well. Just hate to deal with pain for years and then need a hip replacement. It’s amazing how much the hip influences.

You dont need surgery...All it takes is a bottle of Jim Beam and hairygrandpa and his wooden spoon

Hey if thats your thing. I like my redstag black cherry bourbon Jim Beam

I’ve never been able to do Jim beam very well. Use to be a crown girl but now lean more towards tequila. (Which I think gets you in more trouble lol)

You should try Jim Beam Redstag some time. Might be a Jim Beam you like. Very smooth and the black cherry flavor is great

Might do that! They are big about single bottles here so I can try it that way.

Trouble, or best day ever??

Haha most cases it definitely makes for more fun but I’ll just say it’s caused me to get myself into trouble in the past! Lol

I think it is more the mindset that people go into drinking tequila with than the alcohol itself causing it.

Oh I definitely think it’s alcohol in general and not just tequila. Just happens to be my go to. Lol

Shot is working and my hip feels amazing! I’m still avoiding impact as well as lower body work as they asked but normal functions like getting dressed/undressed and simply picking my leg up there is very little to no pain! So I’m so excited to get some relief!!!!!!

We went kayaking twice this weekend and I had no trouble carrying them or getting in and out! Arms even got a good workout. Lol

If the pain doesn't return within a couple days then it is very unlikely that you have a tear in there. Normally the lidocaine in the injection wears off in a few days and then the pain returns if there is a tear. However you said there is a bone spur right? If so hopefully managing the inflammation keeps things from getting worse.

Yes I do have a spur (combined FAI is what they called it) Oddly enough the dr actually said that if there was a tear/repair needed then the shot would actually help for up to 2-3 months. Said if it reduced the pain then they knew that was the source.

Now don’t get me wrong, I won’t mad if they tell me I don’t need surgery! Lol

Interesting, my ortho said the exact opposite, that tears hurt regardless of the shot because it isn't just inflammation causing the pain. Maybe he just meant if the pain came back that quickly the tear was too bad for the shot to help... Who knows?

Either way, I know that just because it got better with the shot does not mean it is a tear. Any inflammation can cause pain and the shot is to clear up inflammation so it assisting doesn't mean a tear is the source but that where they injected the cortizone was the source of the pain and inflammation. Only an MRI or if you were not improved would really point to a tear at this point.

Who knows! I will follow up with my actual ortho dr in a few weeks. (He wasn’t the one who did the injection) I’m sure we will schedule an MRI at that point. Regardless, I’m thankful for the relief even if it’s short lived.

Glad to hear the pain is manageable now

Ouch! Can't imagine having nagging pain in a hip. I know my back and shoulder wreak havoc on me at times but just the idea of a hip pain would make me uneasy. Seems no matter what position you are in it would be bothersome.

Glad to hear you got some relief though. :)

Just to add they did the injections in my back before getting the MRI to find out it was ruptured discs and I about left the hospital in tears. Believe it or not the doc came in with students and decided to have a lesson while I was the subject.

Oh that’s not cool! Sometimes being the lesson example is not a bad thing but a situation like that is a different story! I can’t imagine the pain you’ve gone through!

Thanks for the kind words! Very thankful for the relief. It had gotten very uncomfortable.

Hey guys! Just checking in on here. Started easing some leg work and cardio back in on Monday. I haven’t pushed full force but focusing on the weak points. Pain most days is still better. Certain movements/angles are more painful/sharp but overall the aching is still less than before.

Side note, kids will be out on Friday and next week for spring break ...my daughter told me she would go to the gym with me!!! So excited! Trying to think of something fun but not too brutal for her first workout! Don’t want to turn her away from it.

It wasn't pleasant! I survived and am at the point where the pain doesnt show itself often. It's actually what cause my love for lifting to spark. Physical therapy and pills didn't help at all so the doc suggested I hit the gym and strengthen the muscles around my spine taking the load of the discs. After about 2 months in the gym i was back to work and only have flare ups very occasionally. The discs that bother are in my upper back which is rare for back injuries so it got to where it was even hard to breath at times. Any twisting or arm movements would spark terrible pain.

Amazing to think lifting not only prevented the pain but increase my quality of life ten fold. My dad has had numerous surgeries to repair discs and he still suffers from pain so im very happy I at least temporarily avoided that bumpy road.

Lifting is the Fountain of Youth !!

That’s wonderful! So glad lifting has improved that! It’s definitely hard to watch your parents suffer! Especially knowing how much something has helped you!

Happy Easter!! It’s was a absolutely beautiful day to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection!!!

Agreed. Here for the holiday enjoying time with the parents. Time is valuable. One of my dad's back surgeries they removed a few organs and in doing so ruptured a good portion of his pancreas. He was given 6 months to live 8 years ago and he is still fighting but time is short. But just another reason I was so happy lifting saved me from the knife. :)

Wow! Absolutely! Time is short and precious!!

I finally hit legs 100% yesterday! Forgot how much I missed my legs being sore from lifting! Switched up some of the isolation work to hit the outer quad more directly without causing pain near the bone spur. Feel like my quads have definitely lost some fullness since pain got so intense and I was unable to really train them. The pain is back in certain movements but I can tell the shot is still helping with surrounding inflammation so that’s good! Still able to push myself with some alterations to the movements!

Great Kat, glad you got in an enjoyable (if there is such a thing) Leg Day !!

Yes for sure. He has lived 7 years past his given expiration date though so I feel blessed. In any case hope all is well enough disrupting! Life is good and enjoy it to the fullest!

That’s wonderful! I’m so glad! Please! You aren’t disrupting! It’s nice to hear real life stuff from you guys on here!

So Vector must really be kicking in...I am feeling great- strong and energized!! Went to the gym not once, not twice, but three times today!
Yes, really...we were supposed to be volunteering for a local habitat house build today and we didn’t have to be there until 8:30. So the first time was my usual 5am lifting, went home to get my son on the bus and then went back for conditioning and cardio...drove out to the site to find out the build was rained out. On the way home, a friend who just had a baby, text me and I offered to help her get back into the routine. So I went back for #3.
