Hotel gym has zero weights or even bands... not sure I’m on a get any chance to workout until Monday :(
WTF!!! How can they call it a gym... No local gyms there you can squeeze in one? Most places will let you get a day pass. I expense my day pass if I have to get one... This is what I do when I am home so this is an expense resulting from the trip...

Our new office is at the Google building in Austin and they have a nice gym with Cybex Isolateral stuff, a smith machine, DB's up to 75lbs and a leg press in there. It was nice to be able to go down and lift during lunch while I was there.

There’s an LA (my normal gym) about 2 mi away so I’m gonna uber there when I get back tonight. Really dragging ass from a 16hr day at the park so I don’t expect wonders from the workout but want to get it in. Chest and tris are both weak points for me so I’m gonna give the last little bit, shovel my face with food and then hit the hay haha

Nice, hope it was a good one! Chest and tris are usually pretty easy to make a fun workout of.

Weekend update:

Friday night I was able to make it to the local gym and really crushed chest and tri's (mostly chest). I was exhausted and beat after a day at the park (universal studios), but took some caffiene and by the time I got there I was psyched/motivated and the workout reflected that for sure. Chest is still sore today (which is really rare for me, so I know I I did some solid work).

Saturday was our late day at the park, and also I got engaged ;) so I bumped the shoulder/abs workout til sunday. We finished up early anyways sunday since the park was rather empty so I hit shoulders (which was a very bland and "easy" workout with only 1 and such a small body part, paired with the rep ranges... jsut not "hard").

I didn't get a chance to weigh myself as there was only a broken scale at the hotel and none at the gym (WTF???) so my coach said to weigh myself first chance I get (which will be tonight and again tomorrow morning to compare) before we change diet. Workout schedule is actually for the next two weeks this time and it looks great. 5 days a week, hitting a few body parts multiple times in a week, interesting set/rep schemes, supersets, etc. Really took a HUGE step forward with this segment so I'm even more excited.

General notes/thoughts: It seems like things are finally picking up/coming together. Body comp seems to be consistent (no excessive bloat or fat gain even with the increased cals) which is good, vascularity and overall definition are about the same and strength has definitely progressed these last few weeks. Diet last week and half was about 80% on track with all my travel, camp, holiday, etc (really pretty proud at how good I was able to keep it) but for the next 2+ weeks will be easy to keep 100% as I will be on a pretty solid schedule of work and events. Really up until xmas will be flawless in terms of both diet and exercise barring anything unforeseen so we should get a real view of what 100% adherence to the plan can result in.

I believe this is not the start of week 6 so at the start of next week I will post up weight, pics, and thoughts on the first half of this program in detail. Please feel free to ask any questions or topics you want me to hit on when I do this!

Thanks guys! I got the funniest comment ever when she got back home today... I had told her where I had all the cleaning and warranty stuff for her ring and she just "accidentally" went through the bill too and texts me back: "OMG I'm wearing our new kitchen on my finger" haha I was cracking up.

Haha there’s already a half finished bathroom that’s been waiting 2 months for me to actually be home for even a single day to work on. I think this might have been the only way to stop her from starting projects when I travel haha

Weight was 180lb this morning (different/non-digital scale, but close enough). Since weight went up no diet changes or increases this week. Back and calves on tap for this evening. The next week and a half I will be planet fitness only (what I get for free here in Wisconsin - and right next door to my hotel) so all barbell moves will be smith... of course this is the week that actually has some deads in in too haha (albeit only 1 set of 10) so I might go to another local gym for a day this weekend since I'm staying in town just to have some fun.

Some notes on just general "feels" - my libido has seen a stark increase the last few weeks (normally i sit on the low end of the spectrum - always have - so this is fun for me) as well as mood has been pretty high mostly. I have been hungry a lot more though through the day as I'm eating breakfast but not much then until dinner. I see this as a good sign though that I am humming along and not just getting fat. Digestion of even my large dinner and pre-bed intake has been stellar and I've been waking up lean and tight rather than bloated and full (stomach)

No, back and calves. Just had too many exercises I never feel; upright rows, shrugs (just don’t really like or need) and some calf work I just didn’t have the right machines for

Thanks man! And no kidding... Saturday she had no idea we would get engaged... tonight she’s crying about how every venue in America is booked on the date she wants and all hope is lost for ever being happy and having her ideal wedding ha.

Single to bridezilla in 48hrs! I’m just over here 1000 miles away smiling, nodding, and sending childish memes and motivational comments :)

Lol oh I remember that!

Just my personal experience and my wife feels the same way. We wish we didn't go so big on the wedding and had of used that money for something better ex buying a house. A backyard wedding and party is the way we wish we did it. Still could have awesome food and an even better party.

haha oh man... mine discovered that our dating anniversary falls on a saturday next year (and not again til 2029) so shes now obsessed with using that date... which is only 9mo away and of course 99% of places she wants are already booked ha.

yeah we def aren't planning to go too big. her family is small so that helps too and she's very much a "cost conscious" kind of person. That said, I have to keep telling her that the plan is to only do it once so don't sacrifice something you truly want just for a few $. We can always make more money but we only get one shot to have a perfect wedding (hopefully haha)

Chest shoulders and hams tonight went very well. contrary to yesterday's move set, tonight's was all great "feel" type moves for me. Lots of flyes and presses for chest, comfortable shoulder moves (I have always had some nags from my shoulders so I do my best to work around the aches and such) great volume overall for the workout as well. The total volume for this week and next is much closer to what I would have been doing prior to this coaching so I'm really enjoying that aspect. Will be interesting to see what my weight does as with the lesser volume there was only a very slight increase even with the increased cals. I never seem to be able to predict what my body will do so it's become a giant mystery each week ha

Sounds like they basically gave you a deload in the beginning to bring your volume down, and detrain you a little bit so they could get more out of ramping you back up to volume. Should probably see some growth without much fat gain from the increase in volume and I bet cals go up next week if you don't gain.

Yeah that's what it looks like for sure... I think the program is a standard one, and typically most people would not be coming in having lifted witht he type of volume I had been doing (especially not for multiple years) so I think its meant to just build up. I know my coach had said they typically plan deload weeks every 6 weeks or so so I'm not sure if that was the 3-day week (already) or if there will be one after next week.

hoping to really see some changes in the next two weeks begin to take shape. Coach posted a couple 12 week pics from some of the other clients this past weekend that were actually pretty solid. Both more of a recomp/gain type so I'm hoping to see similar results to those. The one guys shoulders pretty much went from non-existent to boulders (NEED that in my life haha)

Quads and arms last night. huge amount of volume (with only 75sec rests the workout took me almost 90min) - which I loved - and the nastiest quad pump i have had in i dont even know how long. Literally painful and i actually tripped over my self and wiped out at one point after leg presses due to walking so awkwardly... Good thing I was at planet fitness so nobody would judge me haha.

had to get a bit creative on skull crushers as the max ez bar they have is 60lb so i added some band to the bench to get more "weight"... worked perfectly and actually added a whole new stability and tension element that i really enjoyed. Bands are something I've never really used with free weights but I think going forward will start incorporating more into my programs when I can.

off day today, weigh ins and pictures tomorrow morning at the 6 week mark. As mentioned, I will get a halfway review up early next week on the whole process so far.

Weight yesterday was 179.8lb so a very slight (0.2lb) loss. I expect cals will be bumped up or a cheat meal will be added. The cheat meal is something that at 6 weeks I'm surprised has not been mentioned yet by my coach as its something he has and posts weekly for everyone on the FB group. Initially when I asked what the story was (week 2) i was told" you're not ready yet, we need to see how your body works" which I totally agreed with, but I'm getting curious how long he plans to wait before I get the go-ahead on that. Would be nice to have a cookie or some cereal since I literally have not had a single cheat food since starting... the only thing not "on the diet" or a reasonable substitute (like peanuts for pb or protein bars for meats/carbs) was the single butterbeer I had at Harry Potter World... Even thanksgiving (through no fault of my own) I had literally ZERO desserts (and those are my fav of the entire year)... purposely skipped dessert at my families as we were headed to my gf's families to cap the night and when we got there her aunt had already left and taken everything with her... Not a single slice of pumpkin pie was had and I died a little inside. Might ahve even contemplated if life was worth living or thanksgiving even counted haha

Yesterday was back, chest, hams, and calves all in one workout. another 90min volume fiesta... Did some exploring around town and did not find a better option for a gym so I just did the one set of deads on the smith the best I could. Actually felt really good as I found just the right angle and stance to make it pretty realistic.

Arms shoulder quads a little later this afternoon. Spending the entire day (for the first time this year!) just hanging in my hotel room and watching some good ol fashioned football!.

Odd schedule for me this week as I travel on weds afternoon and then will be in a downtown hotel thurs fri before travelling again friday eve... thinking I will do m workouts mon, tues, weds (first thing AM), sat, sun... I will see what the situation looks like at the hotel thurs/fri bt I'd rather just hit up the workouts at a real gym sat/sun if I can find time (have a ton of xmas and wedding stuff to take care of when I get to pitt as my fiance is only in town for the weekend)

Another huge volume workout yesterday for arms, shoulders, and quads... strength was stellar for this one. One thing I've noticed is that my weekend lifts absolutely destroy my weekday ones. I'm certain its mostly due to getting more sleep (and rest in general), but also the fact that I can really just get in the zone and drown out everything else for even more than just the 10min before I walk into the gym. That focus def makes a diff for me interms of getting my CNS firing.

As expected, i got a pretty dramatic diet update starting this week: adding 300g carbs as my post workout meal. All other meals will stay the same so in essence I will be adding roughly 1000 cals on training days (replacing the original post workout shake/foods thus only 1000cals). The rules for this are to try to keep fats low and not worry about protein. I was also told that if it was too much food volume (i laughed a lot at this part ;) ) that I could swap some to the pre portion. Off days I just go back to my normal diet (with the old post workout as a "snack").

He also made sure to point out that obviously I am going to bloat up and gain some weight this week (and maybe a bit beyond) so to be calm/patient ha. I think he's gotten to know I would say something...

So, last night I had a box of pink donut cereal (had been dying to try this and it was BOMB) a few bananas and a small thing of applesauce (actually baby food but it fit the macros I needed). going forward I will try out different carb sources and various amounts of fat/protein in them to see what works best and feels best. It's gonna be fun.

training this week will be a repeat of last so again, super high volume... we will see if today's workout goes any better than last weeks that I disliked ha

Team Juggernaut Training/Coaching - 6 week (midpoint) review

Stats
Start: 174.5lb, estimated 12%bf
Current: 179.8lb (+5.3lb), estimated 14-15%bf (could not caliper as I'm out of town)

Photos (left is start, right is current):
6w Comp Fonrt.png
6w Comp Side.png
6w back.png

General thoughts:

Diet: Going in I was eating 1800cals/day in an IF (20h fast/4h eat) on most days, with relatively low carbs and one major cheat day per week. Once starting the program I was transitioned to a plan that included eating through the day, as well as significantly higher carbs and overall cals. Over the first few weeks, the diet was a 100% baseline diet which they clearly give to all their clients to start (different calories I believe to some degree, but overall similar) before beginning to tweak things. As of week 6, I have had 2 diet adjustments, one being just yesterday and the other at week 4. Food changes have been relatively slight and more so they give guidelines rather than very specific details unless explicitly requested. The original base diet did not even have calorie or macro targets, only food options and a general meal schedule (break/snack/lunch/etc) until I asked what I should specifically be aiming for. Since then, I have been getting plans that have calorie and macro targets, but I often find typos and have to ask questions about parts of them as they usually are incorrect or unclear as first posted.

Positives - calories are FAR above what I have ever been able to eat and fat gain has been reasonable (outside of the initial "burst") considering the increase. The last 2-3 weeks seem to have been fairly consistent as far as fat gain goes (kept to a minimum) and calories have been consistently over 3k/day. Food choices are right up my alley but I also have very basic tastes and require no variety to be happy ha.

Negatives - Base diet could be very bland for anyone not "into" the classic BB/"Clean" foods. Issues with clarity of the plans each week have to be confirmed, clarified, and vetted with my coach, which sometimes can take a day or two leading to some meals being guessed at. Original plan had no calorie or macro targets, leaving a lot of room for caloric swings (which would make "baselining" impossible for the coach).

Training: Each workout has been completely unique until this last setup which is 2 weeks long of the same 5 workouts each week. Sets, reps, volume, and workout days have varied dramatically week to week and even workout to workout. There has been anywhere from 3 to 5 training days, and workouts lasting anywhere from 40min to 90min, mostly based on overall volume. The plans seem to be standard programs and there does not seem to be any custom tailoring or adjust for specific individuals (even based on feedback).

Positives - unique plans each week makes every training session exciting and different. set and rep range variables help to hit the muscles differently each time and I have been relatively sore far more often than I have in awhile. Different exercises than I had been doing before that also hit new angles and such.

Negatives - Very difficult to schedule as you get the program at midnight Sundays and it starts on Monday. As well, the fact that you never know how many days/week or how long the workouts will be makes it hard. There seems to be little or no customization from the prescribed or defined plans they have regardless of feedback or results. I have seen this from comparing to the other guys logging here who have different goals.

Other aspects:

Communication - very limited and really only when I go out of my way to ask things or a change is being made. throughout the weekdays there is at most 1-2 messages (via the app) and always only when I start the conversation. I have not had any conversations via text or phone since the original pre-starting/interview phone call. Even the communication that I do get is typically very short and seems to be at best only slightly personal. I honestly expected FAR more from a coached program.

Other - one of the biggest aspects that is hyped/pitched is the "team" mentality and support... this is literally non existent. I ahve had zero contact with any other members of the team and the team facebook group is 100% useless with the exception of one post that Carl had last week that included a giant list of restaurant options with macros and cals listed (this was actually REALLY good). The rest is either random motivational meme's or some guy telling everyone to like/share mind & muscle sales and posts. To say the "team" aspect and support is poor would be an understatement (as evidenced even further by the fact that none of the reps are even involved in any of the logs going on here, which is borderline insulting...)

Overall - Thus far I have been mostly unimpressed with the program and its results. While I am thrilled beyond reason to be eating as much as I am, I have clearly gained significant fat and do not feel that I look measurably bigger in terms of lean mass to offset that. We will see how the next 6 weeks go as I really think that i am just getting to the more dramatic portion with the new carb backload, but at this stage color me unimpressed. The diet and exercises are relatively basic and nothing someone with modest knowledge could come up with (for free) so paying $125/mo would be crazy. One of my main points and goals was to try to limit fat gain as I do not want to have to spend all spring cutting and basically start back at zero come summer, so we will see if the program leads me to a significant improvement in mass gain prior to the end, as at this stage the mass to fat ratio is not what I would like and certainly not something I would pay for or recommend to others.

All that said, 6 more weeks (or possibly more if what my coach said holds true - working to a desired look and not just the 12wk deadline) and we will see. I expect some relatively big changes coming up, but leanness at the end and overall body comp will be the final measuring stick. You can all make your own judgments based on the pics and stats.

Yeah, for you I can't really imagine your composition going any higher. You like to be pretty lean and much more and you won't be comfortable in your own skin. If he can keep you there and add some LBM then we are talking...

Yeah thats really what I'm hoping for. Im ok with this level of "lean" but I need to have a good bit more size to be truly comfortable with it longer term. If I were to gain much more fat though thats getting unacceptable. I can get fat on a much more enjoyable diet haha

Back and calves again tonight. Overall workout went better as I knew what to expect and where I had to sub things. Barbell Upright rows on the smith (since no bb) are a nightmare for my shoulders tho and if they are on my program again I’ll be doing them with dumbbells instead. Just too awkward

Smart move, I would also! I only do wide grip uprights on the smith to my xyphoid process and no higher. Seems to keep my shoulders from bitching too much but DB's are the way to go!

Workouts Tuesday and weds (weds was at lunchtime since I was traveling in the evening) both went quite well. Nothing spectacular in ether but weights have been steadily increasing almost weekly. The additional calories have certainly added some bloat as my skin was even a bit sore until today.

Yesterday and today are off days and I will be back at it tomorrow and be full on “real” gym for the next few weeks while I’m off work for the holidays. Really hoping the volume stays high since I will have the time and access to get some great workouts in.

My post workout carbs each day have been a box of cereal (tried a few diff ones) and some bananas and that seems to be sitting very well with me. Going to continue that trend unless coach changes it for me.

Yesterday was the longest workout of the week (90ish min) and even after two days off with almost no sleep and a night out I was able to push more weight almost across the board.

Morning weight was 178.5 so I actually lost weight but I think a lot if not all was just dehydration so I will keep an eye on the scale for the next day or two.

Big issue was yesterday I did something to my wrist in the gym (had been a slight nag but yesterday it popped funny and is sore as hell now). This is a real problem as it’s making a significant amount of exercises very painful. Some it’s just the wrist twisting to get the weights into place but the rest is ok, others (tri v bar push downs for ex) are flat out impossible. It’s also had to carry weights as the angle of my wrist makes that very sore.

This is not an injury I’ve had before so I’m open to any advice if anyone has a thought. Biggest pains are twisting motions or things that flex my wrist towards my pinky

Tape it during your painful movements, ace wrap during the day, athletic tape during your workouts and avoid distracting the joint. Will it hurt yes but shouldn't worsen. If it does make an appointment. The hands comprised of so many things that no one could point you in the direction at this current moment. Ice and use some anti inflammatory for the moment as well. Theres not alot of space through the wrist so any swelling can cause masking issues as well.

Very much appreciated. Hopefully it doesn’t get to the point where I need to see someone because I’m never in one place long enough to actually schedule anything ha.

Dang man. Wrist injuries are no fun. I say take the week off, ice it, take anti-inflammatories and see how it is after that. Not an ideal situation though I get it. If you are not impressed with how the program is progressing, I would just take the week or so off. Better to be healed then loose out Long term.

If you can tape it during training and that sounds feasible to you then go for it. You might also just try some wrist wraps for the support if you don't know how to tape yourself correctly.

Short of that, I have used the wrist cuffs to do curls and extensions with cable machines when I broke a few knuckles and couldn't use my hands. Also used hanging abs straps on my elbows with the lat pull down machine for lat work.

Thanks guys. I told my coach about it and we moved some of my training around (off completely today) to help. It’s wired because things that typically hurt a wrist don’t hurt with this. I can press, flex and do whatever pain free but certain twists or angles just kill. I’ve been wrapping it and dosing anti inflammatories all day and will continue tomorrow as well. Training is already set for the next two weeks (4 workout and 2 walking days each).

Diet we are going to see what weight is mid week to evaluate since it fairly certain that my Saturday weight was due to dehydration more than anything. I expect to be up at least 3-5lb from the post workout carb loads.

Any thought in trying adding in cissus? I know that really helped me out with a wrist sprain. C&P helios treats me good but can be pricey

You read my mind :) have both joint support xt and cissus coming day after tomorrow! That stack really helped when my knee was bugging me about a year or so ago. Haven’t had any issues since either.
