Today, I just saw the nurse. She removed my catheter. I'm sure glad that's out!

I really thought I'd get to talk to the doctor today, but I guess I'll have to wait.

I'm just really anxious to know if my Testim gel is working, or if I need something different.

It's back to the gym tomorrow.

TT,

Did you get back to workouts? How did it go?
On Friday, I did a light workout with mostly cardio. I could tell I hadn't been to the gym in a while.
The sweat was just pouring off of me. Hopefully, I was sweating out all the hydrocodone that built up in my body.

By the way, hydrocodone is the best weigt loss drug I've ever seen. I had no desire to eat! Now I know why heroin addicts are so skinny.

Anyhow, as for the workout, I just went from machine to machine in the circuit training area, and kept the weights light.
This morning, I did the same thing.

I'm a little concerned that the Cipro may have weakened my tendons, so I'm staying away from the heavy weights for a while.
I'm taking my Super Cissus again, so hopefully that will undo any damage done by the Cipro.

While I was at the doctor's I did see something interesting... a pamphlet for "Testopel" testosterone implants.
According to the brochure, one dose can normalize testosterone levels for 3 to 4 months. Each pellet has 75 mg testosterone.

The nurse called me back yesterday, and said that the doctor didn't need to see me again. This makes no sense.
I still haven't heard back on my testosterone levels, and if the Testim gel is doing the trick. I'll give the doctor a call on Monday.

TT- glad to see that your back at it !
I'm taking it easy this week.

I did all cardio this morning, on the bike. Much less sweat!
The sweat was just pouring off of me a couple of days ago. Now I seem back to normal.

I'm really anxious to see where my test levels are, and if the Testim is doing the trick, or if I need to try something else.
'sorry I don't have any answers yet.

I've been working for strength the last 6 weeks, and I've had some good results, especially in my ab muscles. I did show off for a trainer at my gym, and he was surprised by what I could do. My stomach muscles get very strong. But I'm not feeling great lately. I think I'm going to do a rejuvenation cycle for quite a while -- lose weight, eat light and clean, and do a lot of cardio.

The nurse called, and said that the doctor didn't need to see me, yet didn't address my issues.
At this point, it's a moot point, because I can't afford HRT without insurance.
I went to refill my $35 script for Testim, and the price jumped by a factor of 10! I can't afford that!!!

About a week later, I came down with a nasty urinary tract infection. Lacking insurance, I tried to beat it by drinking lots of water, vitamin C and cranberry juice. Several days later, I caved, and saw my doctor. I explained the situation, and bless him, he only charged me $10 for the visit.

I'm back on Cipro again. I'm still dragging, but at least I'm not flat on my back. No gym this week. Perhaps Monday.

I'm looking for options here.

Can anybody out there tell me the least expensive way to boost my test levels?

Testim is more than $350 without insurance. I can't do that!

Many thanks in advance,

DAA along with Extra Virgin Coconut Oil will help a lot. Add some good quality zinc supplement or ZMA and you should boost at least an extra 50% or more. Eat onions if you can do it without being too offensive.

Yes, I have PA's DAA. I just have to take it! LOL!!
I've got the virgin coconut oil, and integrate it into my diet each day.
I need to find some ZMA. I don't have that one... yet.
I've go plenty of onions in the diet already!!!

Thanks again!!

I don't know for sure, but I go through periods that I eat a lot of it, and seem to crave it. L-Carnitine L Tartrate is good too, and cheap. but Nutra is out. L-Carnitine L Tartrate and DAA work well together according to a couple people I've talked to in the past.

The next level would be something like The Forged Steel Stack with TitaniumXL and Erase. They claim you can take just 2 caps per day of Titanium, but it does take 4 if you want to be fully dosed. This runs $50 per month which is no longer very cheap.

TT, if you could find a decent Naturopath ie natural health MD or an "Aging Specialist" you can get a prescription for Test Cypionate and even 100 mgs/wk would only run you $90 for a 3 month supply.

I tore a muscle in my back a couple of weeks ago. I've been in a lot of pain. The bruises are just starting to fade.

I finally went to the gym this morning, and did a light workout before visiting my doctor.

With no insurance, I could not afford Testim anymore, so I needed a lower cost alternative.

I got a script for Test Cyp, 200 mg/ml. The pharmacy charged me $111.46 for a 10 ml vial.

My doctor only wants me using 50 mg / week, which sounds really low.

You should check and see where your blood levels go with that. It may or may not make a big difference, if it doesn't get your blood levels up to a decent level I would ask to be able to use more.

I agree!!!

I had a really good conversation with my doctor concerning hormone replacement therapy.

The nice thing about the gels, is that they keep your test levels pretty constant. He's had good luck with Androgel and Testim for his patients.
There was a 3rd type of gel that he mentioned. The name escapes me, but they had some sort of promotion where this new product would only cost $25 per month, insurance or not. Without insurance, Androgel is around $400 per month, and Testim is around $350.
I forgot to ask about the pellets.

My doctor was most disappointed with the pharmacy compounded gels. They did not seem to raise test levels like they should, and some of them smelled bad. Without insurance, he said they were expensive as well.

Yes, he agreed that injectible Test Cyp from Wallyworld would be the most cost effective solution.
It's always a little akward when you tell your doctor that you've done your own injections before (and you're probably better at it than his nurse).

I had planned injecting the Test Cyp once a week, to keep my levels more constant, but with a dose of only 50 mg / week, it's going to be a challenge to do that. Perhaps I need to invest in some smaller syringes. Perhaps I just need to dilute to 100mg / ml. All I have right now are 3cc barrels, and getting .5 cc tough enough. I might as well forget about trying for .25 cc unless I dilute.

As far as testing my levels, my doctor said that if I test my levels right after I administer, my levels will be high, and if I test my levels right before I adminster, my levels will be low. I am unclear on the rules, or if there is a standard, but I would think that you would want to maintain some MINIMUM level, and therefore would test right before you administer your next dose.

I really think I should get my levels checked in one month to know where I stand. I still think 50 mg / week is really low.

I believe the standard blood testing time is midweek or about the 4th day, but I'll ask my brother as he did test cyp for over 4 years. It does go from fairly high to fairly low during the week. Get you hard workouts done the first 3 days!

Yeah he said on 4th day after taking your shot, do your blood test.

It's been four weeks, and my pain was still pretty bad.

I went to see an acupuncture / massage / chiropractor today.
The guy said my Lat, Rhomboid, Serratus, and Intercostals were inflamed.
He thinks the damage was done during my chest press.

It's legs and arms only for the next couple of weeks.

Tiny, Wow! That is a pretty wide territory to be inflamed by one exercise. I mean yeah, it can effect that wide of an area, but stress the whole area. Seems very speculative. Logically, it is the weakest area that gets inflamed or stressed not the whole area that the exercise effects.

Shoulders ?

Just a thought, but might be missing some delt work
QUOTE=TINYTOAD;2821943]Right now, the plan is to split up my workout:
Back and Bi's
Chest and Tri's
Legs
Repeat, and take one day off per week.
I'm a little foggy on what's best for cardio. Previously, I'd just walk on an incline for like an hour, but that's more for dropping fat than working the heart.
After my workout, I was thinking of doing 20 minutes of cardio... either bike, or treadmill.
I know I need to get my diet back under control. It's time to dig out the Calorie King software, and plan out my meals better.
I'm definitely doing a lot better this week.
Thanks everybody for your help and encouragement!

The acupuncture guy told me he did the same exact thing when he was in a hurry, didn't warm up, and did a heavy bench press. All the photos I've seen of bench press injuries show damage around the pecs. I bruised up really bad on my rib cage, about 4 or 5 inches under my left armpit.

The only other exercise I did that day, was mid row. I've been using that very same machine, at that very same weight for over a year, so I would be very surprised if the mid row caused the damage, but anything is possible.

The weirdest thing is that during my exercise, I never heard anything go "pop" or "snap" or had any pain whatsoever. That whole left side of my chest just hurt like the dickens about half a day later.

Anyhow, when I got home this evening, I just slept for 4 hours... probably the best sleep I've had all month!

This is the first time I've ever been to an acupuncture / chiropractic clinic. I'm definitely feeling better, but I'm definitely still hurting.

I too tore my Serratus this week, just a minor tear. Painful to breath deep or twist. I'm sure mine was caused by standing BB shoulder press. I made the mistake of squeezing out that last rep with bad form. Feels like a knife is stuck in my mid back.

The diet looks fairly clean, I guess it depends on when & with what you are eating everything.

As far as cardio, I would just try to hit my target heart range for about 20 mins everyday. That will burn optimal fat, while hopefully sparing muscle. I always run preworkout, but some will say it depleneshes my insulin levels & hurts my muscle training. I feel fine & would much rather give my targeted muscle group a good rest and recovery aid post workout, rather than doing cardio.
This.

Get a decent amount of cardio in....3 months down the line you'll be in a different place. I varied my cardio on the road back between running, cycling and swimming....you'll feel loads better in a short amount of time.

Will do.
I just started working out at a new gym... Fitness 19. Right now, I'm just doing the elliptical machine for cardio. For some odd reason, they have the heart rate monitoring function disabled. It's enabled for the Lifefitness treadmill and recumbent bikes but not for the elliptical. Weird.
For now, I'm sticking to machines. My leg strength is down to half what it was a few years ago.
I know it's just going to take some time.
I see my doctor in a couple of weeks, and am going to see if she'll have my test levels checked.
I can't do any chest work until my surgery heals.

I had a slight setback yesterday. I got moved to another city. Fortunately they have a Fitness 19 club. Unfortunately, it's not walking distance.
Things sure have changed at the gym. I'm getting so frustrated by folks sitting on the equipment, playing with their phones rather than working out.
There are still plenty of people who have no clue how to use some of the equipment. A leg curl machine is not for practicing twerking.

I just got my Polar H10 heartrate monitor and to my surprise, my heart rate is through the roof.
I skipped my cardio because of it. I'm hitting 166-188 bpm just walking. It's crazy!
Fortunately, my blood pressure looks good: 100 / 70.
Hopefully my doctor can come up with some suggestions. I have enough challenges, I don't need a stroke.

My adductor and abductor strength is coming back fast. I wish I could say the same for my quads. It will take time.
My doctor wasn't much help. She looked in my ears, listened to my heart, but didn't listen to me. I go back on July 9th.
I had a great workout this morning. I did legs today, then finished up with an hour of light cardio on the elliptical.
I can't do any squats or leg presses without my heart rate going through the roof.
I'm also doing a little bicep and tricep work, as well as abs. I'm not sure when I can start working my chest again, but I can stop wearing my arm sling next week.

I don't want to sound azz-holish -but if I were you, I would NOT try to ego lift anything. Maxing out machines -or trying to do so is a bad idea, if you just starting over. Muscles grow faster than tendons, mark my words.
Being older, I figured that "dominating/controlling" a moderate weight (TUT, RP sets, different grip angles) is far more productive than shooting for max weight to impress some gym dorks -or to stroke the own ego.
I also would dedicate gym time to injury prevention exercises, especially for rotator cuff. We are not 20 anymore. ;)

As far as my goals...
I try and set goals using the acronym "SMART" Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic / Relevant, and Time based.
Because of the pacemaker surgery, I still don't have the green light to use my left arm. I suppose I can just work on the right arm, but I've decided to focus on legs. My body is not well proportioned, and I'm pretty much all leg. I've had the leg machines maxed out, off and on, since the late 80's. I'm not looking to do anymore 450 pound squats or 1000 pound leg presses anymore. I think those days are gone. However, I think I can max out these leg machines again without injury if I just take my time and work toward the goal. I feel that without some sort of goal, I'm just wandering around aimlessly. I'm really not that far away from maxing out the machines now. I might not max out the machines by the end of the year, and that's okay too. Anyhow, 3 sets of 12, with the machine's max weight, no extra weights pinned on, by the end of the year.
The only thing that seems out of wack, are my quads. I'm not sure what's up with them. Everything else seems to be bouncing back nicely.
As a side note, I'm getting really frustrated by my inability to land an appointment with a cardiologist. I got assigned a new doctor in July, and she's not taking appointments for a couple of weeks. So much for continuity of care.

I'm adding upper body now. This past week, I've just keep really low weights and have been loosening up.
Baby steps for now. I'm just using machines. Lat pulldown, row, and bicept curl. Military press, chest press, and dip.
I got a new doctor. I'm still waiting on the cardiologist referral. Hopefully soon.

Well, I'm back to doing my push day, leg day, then my pull day, then cardio.
My arm strength is about 1/3 what it used to be. Hopefully it will come back like the legs did.
The surgeon told me I would be all healed up by November. Anyhow, I'm being really careful with the arms.
I'm still waiting to see a cardiologist to make sure my pacemaker is working correctly and that the battery is good.

Dont do too much too soon, give your body plenty of recovery time and slowly increase workouts overtime. You have no rush and you'll enjoy it more. Great purchase getting a heart rate monitor by the way to track fitness. Good to see you are moving forward.

I was in a hotel van heading to training in Memphis yesterday when I saw a teal 93 cruising down the road. I got a little excited since I never see 93s on the road let alone a sexy teal one

Anyone here own this car that was driving south of Memphis yesterday?

It's nice to be working my upper body again.
I got a tetanus shot a week ago, and I don't know where this gal got her training, but she did not hit my medial deltoid.
For the first few days, it was so bad, I could not lift my arm. Now, a week later, it just plain hurts to lift my arm. I've gotten vaccines at this Rite Aid before, and never had any problems. This is the worst pain from a shot I've ever had. I wish they could just give me the needle and let me give myself my own darn shot!

I feel like I've spent about half my time in doctor's offices for the past week.
I meet with a neurologist a week ago, and she believes that the weakness on my right side may have been caused by a little stroke resulting from my heart problems. This may be opening up a whole new can of worms.
I also had an ultrasound of my heart, wore a Holter monitor for a day, and today I'm getting my pacemaker interrogated.
All that stuff aside, I'm trying to do a push day, a leg day, a pull day, then a cardio/treadmill day.
I'm keeping the weights low. I'm not pushing over 100 pounds with my chest. My shoulders are weak, and pain from the shot isn't helping. The triceps are coming back though. I have to be careful not to over do it because I don't want another injury.
I'm going to start recording all my weights and reps so I can see if I'm progressing.
My legs seem like they're stuck, not making any progress, and possibly sliding.
I'm still working up to being able to run on the treadmill. Right now I'll walk at 3 mph for a minute, then run at 6 mph for a minute, then walk for 2, then run for 2, and finishing up with running for 3. I'll do this over a 30 to 45 minute period. My goal is to be able to jog at 6 mph for 20 minutes, then I'll figure out what to do from there. Possibly up the speed, but I'm still not able to sustain 6 mph for more than a few minutes. Yet.
