Human body can't use synthetic vitamins??

Hey guys,

just came across a couple of articles one the web stating that human body
can't use synthetic vitamins, but am I wrong or all the most popular multivits supps
like Animal Pack, Anavite, etc.. use synthetic?
WTH? Does it mean I've been taking a shedload of pills everyday for years for nothing?

Sorry man, you didn't get the memo, apparently... jk :)

Synthetic vitamins just means theyre harder for the body to absorb (bioavailability)

Hence the large amounts (% of DV) in the vitamins themselves.

The other thing to consider is the body DOES use vitamins, especially when deficient or under stress (like when bodybuilding.) Remember, we don't have normal human bodies! Lol

I'd also say, try taking 6 months without your multi. I know when I started my OT regimen, I never get sick anymore (common colds, etc.)

I'd rather chance it, and supply my body what it needs...then have myself be deficient in something.

Thanks for the reply,
no i actually wasn't planning on eliminating the multi, if anything I would have
looked out for a natural multi (if they even exist) 'cause vitamins intake from food
in my diet doesn't cover my needs by any stretch..

It seemed odd to me because one of the reason I switched from Animal Pack to Anavite
is because I was pissing lazer-neon-yellow all the time, not only after taking it
which for the best of my knowledge means you're expelling the vits surplus,
seemed a waste
It stopped when I switched to Anavite

the amount they are compressed down probably doesnt help things either. (like the old "Centrium come out looking exactly like it did going" in story)

I'd like to see links to those articles, they are probably written by the same ***gy vegetarians who think eating meat is unhealthy. Vitamin C from an orange isn't treated any differently in your body than vitamin C from lab created acorbic acid. The whole concept of "synthetic" vitamins is a joke anyhow. All of the chemically created vitamins are created using processes similar to how vitamins are created in nature. Its not like they have a pile of protons + neutrons to build them, its chemical and enzymatic reactions similar to what happens in the body.

and the reason you peed yellow was just higher levels of B vitamins that get included in sports specific vitamins. You can think of it as a waste, or you can think of it as being sure you got enough vs with a vitamin where you don't piss neon not being sure if you really did hit your need level.

I get the bright colored urine too. Doesn't mean its a bad thing. I think it's a good thing, that the vitamins are high quality.

I never got bright urine with drug store brands...just a thought

Well said, repped

That's reassuring :D thanks

I did sense it was somewhat untrue (the synth vits not being used) but since I didn't know anything about it
I thought about asking.

I read it first on a board, don't remember which one, then i googled it and Invalid Link Removed came out, it actually states synth vits create nutritional deficiencies, and I was all "whaaat??"

yeah, thats just crazy, notice he doesn't quote anything specific that is scientific or actual measurements of anything, just another doctor's opinion.

It just means there is an excess of B-vitamins. That said, multivitamins have a couple downsides:

-Kinetics - they pass through the GI tract too quickly for full absorption when ingested with food
-Structure - By creating a full spectrum multivitamin, you can bet that a complete agglomeration of every vit/mineral will lead to a poor ability to break down into its individual parts.

And a couple upsides:

-Can address vitamin deficiencies.
-Are cheap, and if the vitamin forms are proper, effective.

All in all, if you're using supplements, I don't see why you would exclude a multivitamin unless your diet is picture perfect. Since bodybuilders usually take things to the extreme, we often have unbalanced diets, and a multi is a great choice, especially when cutting. Using Orange Triad atm and loving it.

That's interesting, so theoretically would be better to take multivits without food? That's what I've been doing anyway
just because I take it in the morning, before the wo and I wo fasted, so I've always been doing that.
Altho' I don't know if that applies to the sups multi or just the vitamins contained in food.

Anyways, yes I've been taking multi since day one and never stopped nor questioned the thing.
I was just curious about the synthetic ones since I've never heard of problems absorbing them,
even less causing any nutritional deficency

Some vitamins have more than one enantiomer. Like vitamin E for example. If you are taking a synthetic form you might be getting less of what you actually want.

I hate MV tablets. I did an experiment in my kitchen with 98% water and 2% 0.5M HCl and placed different tablets in it for a few hours. Most of them were still rock hard.

I would opt for a capsuled MV

that is more dependent on the specific vitamins/minerals. Some your body has a storage mechanism for, others it doesn't.

Speaking of this, the ADAM caps are 3 per serving. I dose one at a time, few hours apart, and even split up like that i piss neon all day. LOVE IT =]

thats ok. it uses synthetic aas just fine lol

True like Vitamin C:

According to the Food and Nutrition Board, vitamin C toxicity is very rare, because the body cannot store the vitamin.

Schleicher, RL, Carroll, MD, Ford, ES, Lacher, DA. Serum vitamin C and the
prevalence of vitamin C deficiency in the United States: 2003–2004 National
Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). American Journal of
Clinical Nutrition . 2009 Nov;90(5):1252–1263

Agreed! Same thing happens when I split my OT dose. I take it to mean it's WORKING!
