There are a lot of amino acid products, but none exactly like GEAR. Its has a very effective way of synthesizing the protein that you consume. It makes the protein you take in more useable which seperates it from the crowd
It does that with its Super plasma protein and you would have to make your own blend with it and some BCAAs like rahl said, which would be less cost effective

you would have to buy other high quality proteins like peptopro. higher quality proteins=more money. the cheaper you get the less quality you can expect.

I would never advise someone turn their backs on a supplement they love, or that 'rocks' like you said. However, if you're truly in dire straights and simply see no way to continue usage due to budgetary concerns, you could always purchase SPP and Bromelain caps and take the two twice daily in concert.
However, I will state the obvious, and tell you the overall effects will NOT be on par with GEAR's synergy and overall effect, due to its other assortment of ingredients, namely, chicken blood.
