Going to be a Freaky Summer starting with Swole/HGHPro

Damn DW...some great numbers there :) I always wondered with you since you don't put numbers in often. Impressive, and good luck on getting that power back, I'm sure you will make it!

That's because my numbers have been low due to injuries so I am a bit embarrased. :ntome:

Wow, there's a ton of love in here for l-glutamine. I honestly do not notice a difference when i'm taking it or i'm not taking it. It's definitely not a staple for me but if it works for others cool.

Neither do I to tell the truth but I know the body need it. I am thinking there are some anti-catabolic and recovery effects that are hard to discern...

i've always found that if my diet is in check, it's something i don't really need. However if i was dieting i would use it just to keep my immune system in check.

Yes I wouldn't bother with any amino support if I was eating a maintenance or above diet.

Precisely! That is when i use it the most is as "preventative maintenance" and it's ability to be be easily broken down for energy, AND I like to use as a healthy filler for the BCAA's to bring the cost down a bit by mixing them and reducing insulin release at same time.

agree completely

Day 5 of week one

Again it is a short workout basically mirroring day 3

Decline close grip bench 3 X 10 45 seconds rest
Obar curls 3 X 10 45 second rest

Weighted ab work..

45 minutes cardio.. I was very strong again setting a good baseline..

Day 1 of week 2 is tomorrow morning, now we'll see if I can move up in weight.

yah it's tough and took me a while before I could do even one, I have done as many as 12 but not all of them were good form.

It's good if you work it right, you know it's going to be quick so you have to attack if full force.

Going to make a prediction .. well make a statement is more accurate.. I am going to be lifting more when I get under 210 than I was at 240 lbs last year.

Yah always liked the apposing muscle group scheme.

There are some small issues but as I get stronger they are less as I seem to get more support from the muscles...

Oh and my shoulder injury is not so bad, that is why I know I will be stronger than last year. I can feel the power coming back. Last year I was badly wounded this year we're going to see the real animal in action. If I get all my strength back we're looking at 315-325 bench 405-425 lb squats and oh if I hit the deads the way I used to that will get up to 475-505... Don't know if I can get back to these numbers but I will know by this fall... Like I said I am much lighter so maybe a bit short of those numbers.

Oh and I have 4 bottles of SuperCissus coming so that should help.

SuperCissus is good stuff.

Yah I should be making Cissus a staple...

Another good workout with increases yesterday.. Up 10 lbs on the fisrt 5 sets of bench then went back down but finished stronger than last week. I was hoping to make better gains but it's the shoulder that does not allow me to go heavy. On the positive side, there was less signs of strain than before and I am hoping it's just a matter of the shoulder needing to strengthen.

Bent over rows on the other hand I completely crushed with a 10 lb increase...could have gone for more maybe. I have always been a beast at these...

Man am I getting thick... I have to admit that I have not been very disciplined in my diet. I am fine during the day where I have to eat very little but eat too much at night. It seems that very little damage has been done though as I appear to just put on some muscle. I weighed in at 214 yesterday which is up a couple lbs.

Feeling ultra alpha and my extra size and power is certainly stoking the fire...

Sleep has been incredible, it just keeps getting better. I often will sleep for 6 hours uninterupted then another 1 to 1.5 hours after, this is optimal for me and the quality is very high.

I find that when I am not in the gym I am looking anxiously forward for the time when I can lift again...

Very nice DW!!!

Excellent work DW!

Seriously everytime I look at your log i go and rag on my dad who is about your age, no reason why the more seasoned athletes can be tearing it up like the young bucks and you prove that everyday!

Thanks, not saying it doesn't take a toll but over the years the extra pain is gradual and you have to be smart, I fuggin really hate that sometimes, like now when I am feeling more alpha and just want to tear shyte up!! and my joints are yelling what the fug are you doin to us!! Right now I am tellin them to shut the fug up!! Sooner or later I may just have to listen to them though. My cissus will be hear soon... :ponder:

A good example was last night, I went up 50 lbs on the leg press (5 X 5) and my knees started complaining, I know it's tendons so I say fug you and push through and sure enough it got a little better near the end. It was only 600 lbs and used to do this with 700 but I will admit this particular leg press is a very good one with an awsome range.

Calf lever 5X5 also up 50 calves never give me trouble...

The big show was clean and press 5X5 up 10 lbs 155 not bad... I had an audience as this is a wimp gym and they see this old fugger showing them up as they do their curls... I have some good size back so I am the biggest in the gym most days. If I can get this up to 185 I will be very pleased, it's the toughest lift there is, I was really sucking wind and blew my timing a couple times but still had the power to get it up so I know when my technique gets better I will be able to squeeze at least another 20 out of it and if I continue to get stronger who knows...:ponder:

Finished off with 30 minutes cardio, my heart rate was really elevated from the clean and press so less effort was required to keep it in the zone...

Arms tonight... can't wait.

The supps are fully kicked in, I think most would have guessed that lol the difference for us older guys is very obvious. I continue to sleep well and train like an animal. I love these shorter workouts cuz I can just go that much harder, more of a sprint than a jog...

I will be adding weight.

I could feel the power coming back.

oh and it appears I've put on some mass recently..

Sounds like the Freak has turned into Super-Freak!!

Yah that's the plan.. the style of this workout really agrees with me. I don't like marathon type workouts, I want to go hard and get out...

Me too. That's why I've always liked the Mike Mentzer HIT stuff or Dorian Yates type of workouts.
Short but brutal!!!:firedevil:

Exactly....get in, shoot, and get out. You can work out HARD or you can work out LONG, but you can't do BOTH. I keep telling people that.

Makes sense though, do you're fighting when you have the energy to do some fuggin damage!!

That's why I always liked reverse pyramids for varying rep ranges, get warmed up lift as heavy as you can then taper off as your strength wanes..

I agree with the sprint analogy. That is why I prefer high intsnity training, less volume.

Yes but as much as I love and prefer this training style, I still need to switch things up. I never go over say 1hour and 15 minutes though. I don't like the long workout but it needs to be done from time to time. There is only so much volume a natural athlete can handle however.

Another successful increase on the decline close grip last night was up 10 lbs for all 10 sets.

Not as much luck with the obar curl I was up 10 lbs but really struggled with form, will not increase untill I clean that up... got to remember 10 sets with 45 seconds rest you can't do what you normally would be able to.

30 minutes cardio, I was pretty exhausted...

Joints were really screaming but after a good nights sleep I seem to have recovered reasonable well. Feeling big and hard. I was up to 215.75 last night which is higher than I wanted to be but I looked in the mirror this morning and was a tad leaner looking. I have added a couple lbs moss no doubt but still want to go to around 208-10. When my diet is more in check this won't be a problem though.

Nice DW, but remember your goal for this year is also staying as lean as possible while gradually adding mass. I can attest to you the reigning in of the diet gets harder and harder the longer you put it off. I should have stuck to my original plans of staying lean year round, and I am very frustrated now. Starting the leaning process again without a contest to push it is very hard. So I figure I will be a supportive turd and tell you don't let yourself get comfortable with looser eating. If your goal is to tighten up the skin and come in tighter you are going to want to see the top set of your abs clearly at all times.

Keep the Adonis look and try to slowly gain 5 lbs over the year while at that body fat, I promise you will be much happier. It may also help keep you from going overly heavy causing more joint issues. We both know the strength shoots up no sooner than we get a tiny bit of fat on us.

I know.. shut up Kleen, you are such a kill joy... I just don't want to see you doing a Tutu challenge or something severe to get your ass into a diet mode like some of us have had to resort too. ;)

I would like to point out that stack your on.....your on a bigger and better stack then me and IM IN caloric deficit and still not dropping lbs on the scale.

Stay on point and the weight gain is a side effect of the stack...that lbs is definitely NOT FAT.

Just remember that your in a a marathon now like Kleen pointed out but dont let the scale get you down.

I have been eating fairly unclean though and maybe 3 lbs is fat and water. So I want to get down to about 208. I'll factor in some muscle gain. 208 should have me just under 10%...

I wasn't saying you were getting out of shape as i am sure you know. I just know how easy it was for me to go from looking at great abs to looking at so so abs and being okay with it as long as strength and weight was going up. Then suddenly they were gone.

Well then hey you know what you gotta do big guy. We all got your back so get it done! 208 sound very reasonable

I think thats my biggest problem when im not on a cut...as long as im getting stronger i get complacent with my physique. But i have a feeling once I get "Kleened" it will be easier to stay motivated to keep the fat stores low

No,,, I know I have made this mistake so many time, know exactly where you're coming from.. I appreciate the heads up or in this case reinforcement.

With modern supplementation you can do both but heavy lifting can make you very hungry... as you're in an anabolic state, balancing this can be hard at this point. The diet I am on will enable me to limit any damage, even when I cheat the damage will be minimal but I can't be cheating too often. A couple times a week and I'd be fine.

I have to agree 100% with you on the cheating aspect DW. I am not a competitor though I use a lot of the techniques you guys do to reach my goals though because I do cheat more than someone in contest prep does, it takes me longer to reach them. My point being, I can be successful if I don't have all perfect meals all week; frankly if 85-90% are in line with my diet, I make great progress and can still enjoy life. You are right about the herbal supps as well, they do allow you to have your proverbial cake and eat it too; I can cheat or stray from the diet for a night and see little to no damage from it. So what if I am up a pound due to the extra carbs, the next day I can get rid of that pound and still have no fat gain. I am sure that you will be successful in your endeavors and maintain your 10% BF and gain lean mass over the next 6-7 months. I cannot wait to see how ripped and shredded you are going to be next time with all you learned from this prep.

I did learn some things but some I re-learned which should not happen. The thing that threw me off the most was that I thought I had more mass in terms of weight and it still puzzles me how I can be so much bigger without being that much heavier...

Next time I will have to use my super high grazing technique with high protein..

Oh, man, DW...how's that work? Please share with us...

The idea is to take in about 200 grams (roughly half) of your carbs from fibrous sources (broccoli, green beans, Cauliflower etc...) the rest is yams and par boiled rice. Then you increase your protein intake to about 1.5 grams per lb body weight and keep a calorie deficit.. It's fuggin rough but it is very steady and predictable... You basically have to graze to get all the veggies in...

I actually did something very similar to that last year and it is very effective. I will say it is hard to get that many fibrous carbs in; sometimes I thought my jaw was going to smack me for putting it through the turmoil, lol. Have you ever thought about doing something like CKD as well? Many seem to respond well to it.

Excellent conversations going on in here :)

I'm tracking my macros today solely because you are always like "Knowing your macros would help dummy" DW :D Hoping to be able to make some slight adjustments from there with the help of all the pros roaming around.

I would hate getting 200g cho from veggies o.O I love veggies but that just seems like soooo much.

I do great on CKD at first but then it just stops working for me...

Oh yah it's a lot, but I am talking contest dieting remember, not supposed to be pleasant.

You can learn a ton of stuff in a DW log.

Yah I learn a lot too... it's the feedback and the discussion...

agreed... taking notes like usual

Thanks... but you'll have to employ it as well lol I knows you love your vittles.. as do I... That's why the off season dieting is so hard for me. I try to get away with too much.
