Timber's Epi Smash

I saw you got hurt in your thread; best of luck in recovery. I'm to the point where I may just cruise for a little bit, sort of a maintenence program. I don't lift 400+ workouts in a row; only every once and a while to say that I can still do it.

The prospect of a back injury scares me. I'll problably incorporate a belt at some point in the near future.

I used to always wear a belt on both exercises, then only on Squats, then on nothing...now I messed my back up and I'm wearing it on all big lifts involving lower back when I get in the 5 and under rep range...and widows.

Yeah, I just do on squats over 225... So the 275.

All good so far. I can see rationale for both. I just like the extra core training.

Irish makes a lot of sense about the human body's limitations... I use straps quite a bit...

Some guys here are really trying to train forearms / grip strength... I just don't give much of a sh*t about that. My goals are different...

Is it working now? I mean, I split it one for you and one for me. lets hit the party up. Anything for my Buds

Gym has a bank of 10 to 12 comptuers you can just stand up and use when you're waiting or resting...

I'm back on at home again... No idea what was wrong.

WTFrick? lol.

Yep, that's the downside. Using a belt means you have to do ab work to make up for what you don't get to train. Haha.

Well they're stupid. You don't do shrugs or deadlifts to work your grip. They need to do some plate squeezes if they want to work on their grip.

I honestly get very annoyed when people refuse to use straps for that reason. There's no way you will ever be able to hold that weight long enough to work your traps.

Yeah, I have 3 grip trainers (20, 40, 60#) at my desk at work... That's my grip training. I get that sh*t in while I'm getting paid motha****kkaaa!!

lol. Nah. I am having a hard time swallowing pills this week so I put the powder on my tongue and wash it down. But looking at the powders I was like...Oh hell I have to do this!

yeah, I figure I haven't gotten freakishly strong enough to require a belt yet...

straps are a must for me on deads when I go above 225, but I'm working on my forearm strength

yeah dude get a straw and rail that sh!t up Zero! or you could just shove the caps up your ass....Suppository any one?

Evans vs. Machida! Who do you guys want to win? Id like to see Machida win. If Evans catches him hes going down though.
Also, Im trying to find a site that is streaming this fight tonight, if anyone knows of one.. link me up:)

if you need a free link for the fights tonight try channelsurfing.net. It always seems to work for me.

Dude...that has to be 10 lbs of muscle sitting there!

A week ago I would have said no; however, I just hurt myself for the first time so I'm going to change my opinion. You have to take some things into consideration...

1) The weight you lift - Our bodies are only made to handle so much, and that goes double for things such as our wrists, lower back, knees, and grip. - We use straps so we can handle the weight we need to lift to stimulate our muscle fibers. When you're doing shrugs, you have to realize our hands weren't meant to hold 400+ pounds from a hanging bar.

2) Is it normal for a man to have 400+ lbs laying across his back? No. Sooner or later, as you increase the weight, you're going to get hurt if you don't protect your back.

There is not a single powerlifter I have ever seen that doesn't wear support when they're in competition lifting 800lbs+.

You need to take care of your joints, back, tendons, wrists, etc. - I say wrap them and strap them when working with heavy weight. Obviously it's not necessary for less weight, but it's important to take care of yourself.

I look around my gym, and all the big, old dudes in great shape take care of themselves...to me, it just kind of makes sense. I wish I was smarter. I've been out of the gym for a week now with a hurt back, and it's going to take at least another week to heal, I think. I will be wearing a belt from now on.

AGREE with all that, I'm not at the point yet where I think the belt is necessary, but something I'll consider in future. Probably only on squats. I deadlifted almost twice my bodyweight before with no issues. I don't think that weight would go down well on squats for me tho. Damn sciatic nerve....

i've got to agree here as well. when my knee tried buckling doing 325 on deads i really had to consider where i'm going. random knee pains when i got up to 202 lbs made me realize there's only so much weight a given body can handle - since my starting weight was pretty low, 200 is the highest i can safely weigh until my knee ligaments and tendons catch up.

from that, i've thought that all those quotes on MD and FLEX i've read "pro bodybuilders respond better to steroids than others", and all that crap, it doesn't make sense. some people respond to one thing, others to another - none of it matters. if something doesn't work "as good", just take more.... it ain't rocket science.

the equalizer in their "superior genetics" really means that they have superior joint strength - holding 350 off season is not something most of us can do, and allows them to compete at a weight class that most of us can't quite reach.

Thought yall would enjoy this...

Ya they are.... The DL guy is just wow! And i have DLs today to! hahaha Im goin to try and use that technique and see if i can get 315!

My spine hurts just thinking about deadlifting like that.

I really doubt he thought he was doing it right. I mean he made of a vid of it :wtf:

For that little dude at 350 or whatever... His form wasn't AWFUL if that was his 3 rep max... I mean, slight back curve / slamming too hard... but I've seen worse.

I was embarrassed for him just watching that strongman competition..
