An Entertaining Way For Children To Learn The Value Of Exercise And Eating Right!

Russel the Mussel is the first story in a series by the owner of Recomp Performance Nutrition, Matt Pearson.

I believe the initial price on this will be around $9.95, but that is pretty much up to Nutra.

That's great man, I remember reading a while back about the childrens book. Good to see it as a final product. I may get a copy and take it to my gym. They have a kids club.
 
This is the first of a whole series. Book number 2 is already in illustration, though I am going to do a slight rewrite.

I'm hoping that this starts a trend towards education on the part of fitness-minded parents, and that we can help, if even a little bit, stem the tide of this obesity epidemic.

I see so many morbidly obese 5 and 6 year olds lately, and I find it VERY disturbing.

Last month on the news they were talking about some doctors that were recommending statins for children. STATINS!

Damn, where'd you see THAT? Man, that is scary.

How about a nice game of tag? Oh, wait..you might damage their fragile self-esteem if they get tagged out.
 
This is a fantastic learning tool to incorporate into a childs education regime. Learning about health, even at a young age can greatly influences future paths/decisions they make.

Knowledge is power, and this is a great way to help a child begin to build a solid health and nutrition base in which to build off.

Any teachers in the house? :D

Any doctor that recommends a statin drug for a child (Unless some VERY serious congenital anomoly exists) is asinine. There are SO many other SAFER avenues to exhaust in the early treatment of hyperlipidema.

Heredity is a b*tch, however even that takes time to catch up to you in the end. A learning tool like this book starts the ball rolling for these kids in the right direction.

I saw this as well..

freaking scary

I think all of the members of this forum need to create our own country...isolated... (however we will need a lot more women).

I made the mistake of walking into super walmart last night... i was scared by some of the people. that place is a haven for inbreds.

LOVE the book idea dsade... you need to get MCDONALDS to throw this in each kids meal in place of the toy (or the fries)

I have a contact at McDonalds. He hooks me up with extra fries in my double big mac meal.

I would love to see this, but even my kids would throw a fit if they didn't get their "made in china special lead paint chip/toxic plastic toy".

Though, I wonder if Subway would embrace it?

Awesome! When I first seen the title 'Russel the Mussel' I though maybe it was an adult film...

Then I noticed the spelling of 'Mussel' :o Great idea, my nephews would love it!

I believe adding this book into some major chain grocery stores around the country would be a novel idea. I'll work myself at "Publix" (A large food store chain) down here in florida. :)

Congratulations Matt!

As I mentioned elsewhere I would be interested in buying a bulk order so I can get my daughter to bring these into her classroom and gym. She is in an Advanced Reader program at school and my athlete partner in my family. She is a (7yo end of month) gymnist and they call her buffed at the gym...she is too ;)

I look forward to this coming to NP. Hopefully I can influence Sam to have a "10 for" or something like that once it gets up on the site.

Will buy a copy of this for myself to pass onto my son as he gets a little bit older. Looks adorable and sounds like a good teacher.
 
You can make it a collectible as well if you go to the Olympia. We are going to sell copies of it there and you can have some of the bodybuilders sign it and keep it as a memento for your kids.

That sounds like a great idea. You can show your kids the pictures of the people that signed your book for that extra bit of inspiration, although they might not fully grasp the idea until they're a bit older.
 
If you need someone to dress up in a giant mussel costume at the Olympia...I work for cheap...

Brilliant Idea. Dsade, Crader - thank you for purporting the concept that nutrition and exercise is a family activity and not just for parents! I encounter this so often and it just kills me when I see Mommy feed li'l Timmy a kid's meal on her way to the gym to keep him quiet.

Your book's a heads up that not only do kids need to hear about this stuff, but that parents should be teaching and practicing it with their children!

Hmm wouldnt it be better at a show for one of the natural bodybuilding competitions? Not exactly sure the message of Russel goes with the steroid + growth hormone hogs at the olympia. Then again if i'm there, don't tell any of them I said that :D

Some of them MAY be natural........;)

The idea is to get the message out for families to incorporate health and nutrition into their childs life. Whether that's from exposure to the book at the olympia, natural show, wal-mart, or Mcdonalds the overall message is still the same.

It's the lessons that the book teaches that are important. Those apply to all facets of life overall. There's nothing like formulating a good diet and exercise regime at a young age that breeds good judgement and success in the future. :)

I would imagine that most parents don't teach their kids about steroids, so it would not really be a thought that crosses their mind. And you have to start kids somewhere, why not good eating habits.

An abridged version on a placement or kids meal box can be done easily with a quick rewrite.
 
they tend to have educational type kids meal addins, so approaching them early to have it coincide with next years national fitness week might make sense
