That's true.. even on large forums like this, it may take time, but VERY true.. on my home forum, theres an average of 12 people online at one time.. and it's seriously like a family.. on the forum I helped build theres even fewer, so that family is more close knit.. people helping people is a big thing.. it gets hard to help people who ridicule your family, or that aren't willing to laugh and have a good time.. it's like that scary kid who shows up the family reuinion and doesnt eat, doesnt talk to anybody, just sits there and scares people..
I agree with the sentiment of your statement. I have been here for a long time and have watched this board explode in population. It has changed that dynamic tremendously. We need to be cautious and consider that this tight knit family that you may have here may also be something that makes newcomers feel like outcasts and us veterans feel like we have lost what was our community.
Err.. got off point, my point being this: I agree with the original post, and am at fault BIG TIME, I do however feel that the time/place for it thing is true, but communication makes the whole 'family' stronger, it's hard to NOT communicate in threads when someone brings something up, PM'ing only makes it harder at times.
I want to reiterate that some off topic discussion is not a bad thing but it is an other thing when a thread is completely consumed by O/T discussion.

Looks like it is a flash issue. I will inform the webmaster of our issues and see if he can fix it or instruct us how to use it.

Strong no show by Ronnie :toofunny:
And whom might that be Ronnie? We are all adults here, you know as well as I that meaningful dialogue is welcome between adults. It's a better way to talk and discuss things if you have problems with certain members of our community.

I would absolutely love to see some links to these offensive posts / homo talk / pictures and emoticons..... If anyone ever sees a post of mine that is A) Offensive to gay people B) Too many emoticons or C) A major hijack please feel free to either PM me about it / report it to a mod or talk to a mod about it. I would rather discuss these issues than let them continue unnecessarily.

Feel free to PM me in regards to any of my posts etc.

Much Love,

Neoborn

Trust me. I wish I had the time to pull up all your posts with that content in it but why? Everyone already knows. Meanwhile...you do have some interesting posts/threads that are meaningful which is a good thing. Lets face the facts here B5150 said it best and we'll leave it at that.

chat doesnt let me in it tells me theres an user with my user name already logged in

me too.....maybe we have stunt doubles that we dont know about or something..........

I don't think he is asking to be repped. I believe that the repping system has increased worthless posts and banter that is then rewarded by fellow banters with reps. I promise you that your rep count is not at all indicative of valuable informational posts.

I would say that up until 4 - 6 months ago rep count did indicate the value of a member but agree that it no longer does.

CROWLER

I realize that. I guess someone finally got you green :)This further attests to my point. Taking member threads and or logs way off topic with banter, homophobic comments and otherwise worthless contribution makes these logs unbearable to read for some members, myself included. I would imagine that as a rep, providing product to a tester to journal, you would like to see it be informative, professional and conducive to a valuable and worthy representation of your product, less the banter, hijacking and homophobic comments. Or is it just me?

Yet, your previous statements suggest that you like or encourage socialization and extended family activities and discussion on the board.

Now I am confused as to you view on thread/log hijacking and the likes. Care to help me understand your point?

I'm fine with the goofy threads staying off topic, I don't mind joking in my log that is up now. As far as a testers log goes I want good feedback but I also want a little personality in the log, no one likes a boring clinical read. Now 30 pages off topic in a testers thread, no. Fun but not to excess.

I think it should be the person who starts the thread that should say hey keep my log on topic, this is my serious log. Then you respect that persons wishes.

It should all be in moderation with no hate or meaness.

So how do we fix the rep system so idiots like me  don't end up looking like we know something? I do make some worthwhile posts, and as much time as I spend here and as research oriented as I am I have a bunch of stored knowledge, but I'm a prime example of the rep system hiccups

I'm sure there are tweaks that can be worked on and they will come in due time if that's the case. Becoming a busy time of year for people.

Busy making lots of toys....for all the little girls and boys?

EasyEJL,

There is no need to worry about your rep points. I know you have made valuable contributions even though they may not be commensurate with your excessive rep count.

It is very easy to see the 'clique' that has abused and devalued this system. This does not mean that they are not valuable contributors to the board, but again not at all commensurate with their contribution.

But then again some peoples' trash is another's treasure. So it is relative.

I have some rep points and quite honestly if that administrative tool were in my power to edit I would drop mine to zero or remove it from my public profile.

Only the good little girls and boys.

:( no fair.

As for the reps, it seems they get magically reduced from time to time.

Nobody but the extreme noobs put much stock in rep anymore, but it is simple to tell by responses if you should listen to someone.

Is there something on AM that says what reps should be given for (guidelines or something like that)? I rep people for a variety of things whether it is useful information or just for making me laugh/smile. IMHO, someone can be deserving of reps not just for info related to training/nutrition/supplementation.

It seems like people have issues with that. There are tons of other boards with rep systems and they dont seem to have these issues.

I'm not sure the rep system was the main point of your initial post however so maybe this is a moot point.

Did someone just say something? :whip:

I think the crowns get more value, therefore reducing the total icon count. Otherwise they take over the page.

I have no issue with it at all. I know who is worth listening to. It has no value at all to me.

Agreed, I've been repped for something as simple as someone wishing me good luck on my cycle. Now where some may not find that worth reps, it tells me people are getting something from reading my experiences. It also makes me feel good for sharing on the boards.

edited to add even when new here I never took someones advice as being important by the rep they have. Its what they are telling me to do that makes them worthy.

The force is strong with this one.

...this place has my home board for the past 3 years, I just don't want to see it got the way of BB.com. I like to have fun & joke too, but if you look through my posts, they're more informational than not.
That is the way I feel.

I remember Bobo warning that there would be a heavy influx in the future.

The rep system is worthless as is. The sad part is that the newer people do not know.

I am actually suprised at some of the behavior of Sup. Rep's on the board. If it were my business I would not want some of these individuals affiliated with my company.

i would much rather prefer member designations than rep systems.

"informed"
"knowledgeable"
"AAS expert"
"respected member"

and such

and for chad- "homosexual"

NOT THAT ITS A BAD THING

I would love to hear more of this from you or any of the "other" people that seem to know about this, because as far as I know this is a first for me.

I am a little disheartened that people may be bothered by my posts etc and not have the decency to come forward and discuss it with me :(

Anyone who has something to say on this please PM me or create a new thread on this in the General Chat

Much Love,

Neoborn

Feel free to PM me anytime you want to discuss this Ronnie :clap2:

I like Jomi's idea for the rep system as well. Cause it's no fun people thinking I'm a steroid guru when I am only just starting to get into Epi. How would they be designated? When you rep someone you have a choice of those four or what?

i just wanted to post one more time on this topic...

i think the "cliques" so to speak are not condusive to the community. I remember when i first joined i began to feel out of place with all the friendly discussion between people. I mean even if you tried to join in it was like a "who are you" type of deal. I cant help but think that this is how some new members feel when they read here. I think alot of guys that have been around a long time might be threaten by this or not...all it comes down to is people with intelligence can already see who is knowledgable and who just like to fvck around...now some of us are both but this just brings me to the another thing....the rep system. Come on guys you know how many guys here have HUGE information, experience, and knowledge with no crowns at all? Im not singling anyone out but im just saying there are guys with millions of points and not too much informative at all. Good points made on the rep system, GET RID OF IT. Maybe the mods can come together to make a better system, maybe like jomi's idea but with your vote?..

As far as thread jacking...if its the OP's question or log and they wish to not be cluttered with OT discussion then let them say so and people respect that. If someone has a problem respecting that then let that be addressed. When it comes to a "general" question or topic thread that gets sidetracked, well in good fun and communication its cool but when it dominates useful information then its a problem to anyone who is looking or reading for knowledge.

Lets face it here, some are here to play(bored) some are strictly for knowledge and some are both. But overall, all the problems addressed in this thread if continued will just bring this awesome board down. BB.com here we come?...hope not.

another thing supp companies here.....at least get reps with knowledge or someone that will bring a sort of prestige to your company, i mean for business sake. (not anyone in particular)

How about stop asking for them, DUH!

This is an interactive forum with people participating from all over the world. There all all kinds of walks of life here. People who I would never care to talk to. So, what are people really crying over? I think AM is a great gathering place. And if there is something you don't like to read, scroll past it. Something worth remembering, paste it in your Notepad on AM or your desktop. I have a very nicely organized Favorites folder.

For the most part all questions/posts are redundant. I see users posting the same question they asked a week or so ago, instead of bumping their old thread. I think this is a bigger concern that makes finding information harder to find or get lost.

I will rep a person for starting a new log, because it might be motivation for that person, knowing they have fellow members watching them.

So, other than thread jacking, I don't see any issues with reps, goat humor, and calling someone a fruit.

is that an attempt at rep points? :hammer: hahaha

Definitely agree with the B-man on all points. In particular the ambient level of homophobia in the BB community just gets old. I mean, this is a sport where grown men shave their entire bodies, oil them up, wear a banana hammock..simply to put them on display to the general public.

One should be mature enough and secure enough in their masculinity to accept that some of the viewing audience might just be homosexual men and be able to accept their applause and admiration as well.

There are a lot of homosexual BBers out there as well and they shouldn't have to feel unwelcome IMO.

I don't understand this alleged "homophobia"?

Just because someone calls another guy gay, doesn't mean he is scared of gays. In matter of fact it isn't even targeted towards the gay community.

This whole Political Correctness has gone way to far, and people are way too up tight and take everything too personal.

I mean come on, if a guy can take a d1ck in the ass, what makes you think calling another member gay out of juvenile humor, is going to hurt?

I could care less of someone's sexual orientation, but just because someone is gay, does that mean I have to remove: fag, qu33r, pillow-bitter, etc from my vocabulary?

A derogatory term is a derogatory term. I'm not going to ban or edit you for that particular word choice, but if you can't be civil towards people you simply paint yourself as disrespectful. That is something the MOD team doesn't have to put up with. We're talking about etiquette here and obviously it's a topic completely lost on you if you launch into a defensive rant about limiting your free speech.

Do you refer to anyone with dark skin as a nig*** simply to protest "PC" extremes or are you more respectful when not hiding behind a keyboard?

agree with many points.............

But, have to side more with Crader here on the family, close-knit circle type stuff.

I am a company rep and my main objective is to answer questions about our products or to FIND the answers. I do that VERY well. (some may not think so).

I have been involved in this "clique" that people talk about, and is it really bad? Alot of the hijacking has been separated to General Chat. (Goat Thread, Trip's log, etc....)

I have a log up now, and I agree that thread hijacking is a pain at times if it goes on for too long. But my log is just as much about life as it is about the workouts and diet. The motivation of people contributing and watching and "rooting" for me helps.

I am as much an offender at alot of these things that B takes offense too. I, for one, have toned down some things when realizing people that I respect were getting offended. But, there are ways around things other than publicly "outing" people. we ALL have bad behaviors (even the mods). NO ONE IS PERFECT or above it all.

I have already apologized to the mods (at least to jay and asked him to forward to the rest) over my behavior about PA. If some can't accept that apology, that is fine. I have tried to make a positive impact on this board, and camaraderie and fun and real-world experience is just as important as SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE (and i'm not knocking the science).

There is a time and a place for everything. That is probably the biggest "theme" for this thread. I applaud the discussion that has/is taking place! :clap2: <---the dreaded emoticon!

I am relatively new to this board. I joined back in June 2007. I alrady find myself sick of it and noticed that I am viewing it less and less. The thread hijacking is probably the thing that pisses me off the most. For example I was looking at crader's log 'Christine vs. Anavar' and she probably made a grand total of 12-14 posts. Guess what ? Her log is already 7 pages long. From my own threads I start, it is pretty well known that I hate off-topic comments that are irrelevant.

The rep system needs to go. It is probably the most worthless feature on a board. People that know stuff get around by word of mouth. Just mention the person's name and direct them in the right direction. If you know your stuff your name will eventually get around like Patrick Arnold (he will be missed), DR.D, etc, etc. The rep system is clearly abused right now and is ALREADY acknowledged as being utterly worthless.....so why still have it ? Just get rid of it.

It is a shame that I cannot even find information that I want anymore without having to commit hours of time sifting through junk in posts to actually get any relevant information anymore.

Seriously, if you see someone's picture and you feel you have a 'good chance' at tugging him off, go ahead and PM him to ask. Some thing are funny, but most of them are just reinforcement of incredibly childish and pre-pubescent humor.

p.s. The goat thing was never funny. It was not funny from the beginning, and now that the horse has been beaten it still is not funny. See where I'm going with this ? What WOULD be funny is if you take a stick, put it in the ground and squat right on top of it.
