I've actually never used it but have heard great things. I would still start with fish oil but cissus could definitely be a great addition

this is a health condition, and i cannot advise treatment otc.
she should see a doc.

for these types of issues that are less severe, one could piece together a pretty decent arsenal out of cissus and fish oil (or Achilles if you want a cissus product+goodies like analgesic benefits), fish oil, and glucosamine chondroitin along with possibly some hyaluronic acid.

This.

You could create a list, and talk to the doctor at your moms next appointment about them just to make sure they don't interact with anything she is currently taking

3g epa/dha per day + Joint Help = win

ive got arthritis in both my ankles from surgeries, paractin in joint help is a god send for pain relief. only product on the market that can offer relief with just the first dose ;)

Shes not takeing anything, because all they want to give her are steroids, which will just kill her liver

Shes not takeing anything, because all they want to give her are steroids, which will just kill her liver
huh?
i think this conjecture is lacking merit, friend.

What Are the Benefits of Steroids?

When inflammation threatens to damage critical body organs, steroids can be organ saving and, in many instances, life-saving. For example, they may help prevent the progression of kidney inflammation, which can lead to kidney failure in people who have lupus or vasculitis. For these people, steroid therapy may eliminate the need for kidney dialysis or transplant.

Low doses of steroids may provide significant relief from pain and stiffness for people with conditions including rheumatoid arthritis. Temporary use of higher doses of steroids may help a person recover from a severe flare-up of arthritis

What Side Effects Are Associated With Steroid Injections?

Steroid injections are one of the most effective ways to decrease pain and improve function, yet they generally do not cure the illness.

In rare instances, the following side effects might occur:
Infection
Allergic reactions
Bleeding into the joint
Rupture of a tendon
Skin discoloration
Weakening of bone, ligaments, and tendons (from frequent, repeated injections into the same area)

Not everyone will develop side effects and side effects vary from person to person. If steroid injections are infrequent (less than every three to four months), it is possible that none of the listed side effects will occur.

What Are the Possible Side Effects of Oral Steroids?

Side effects are more common with a higher dose and longer treatment. Side effects are much more common with oral drugs. Some side effects are more serious than others. Common side effects of oral steroids include:
Acne
Blurred vision
Cataracts or glaucoma
Easy bruising
Difficulty sleeping
High blood pressure
Increased appetite, weight gain
Increased growth of body hair
Insomnia
Lower resistance to infection
Muscle weakness
Nervousness, restlessness
Osteoporosis
Stomach irritation or bleeding
Sudden mood swings
Swollen, puffy face
Water retention, swelling
Worsening of diabetes

Please note: The side effects listed are the most common side effects. All possible side effects are not included. Always contact your doctor if you have questions about your personal situation.

Does Everyone Develop Side Effects of Steroids?

No. How often any side effect occurs varies from person to person. If steroid use is brief (from a few days to a few weeks), it is possible that none of the listed side effects will occur. The side effects listed generally do not occur when occasional steroid injections are given for arthritis, tendinitis, or bursitis.

However, if steroid use involves high doses and is prolonged (for a few months to several years), an increase in the number of side effects may occur.

How Can the Side Effects Be Minimized?

To minimize the side effects of steroids, doctors follow these guidelines:
Use steroids only when necessary.
Monitor closely to detect the development of serious side effects.
If possible, use steroid injections for problems in a specific area.
Use the minimal dose required to gain control of the disease.
Reduce the dose gradually as long as the disease remains under control.
Monitor blood pressure often and treat if necessary.
Recommend calcium supplements, vitamin D, and bone-building prescription medications to help maintain bone strength (this is done especially if steroids will be taken for a long period of time).
Have your bone density checked every one to two years.

with proper medical oversight, the risk of sides - while there - are minimized greatly.

As stated i would see a doctor, but some things that will ease the pain would of course be fish oil. I have taken cissus before and seemed to help my joint pain. I would do both the fish oil as well as the cissus and see if that doesn't at least help some of the discomfort.

Yeah sorry, thats just what she told me, shes very set in her ways, and when she hears about the side effects she freaks. Thats why I asked here cause she trust herbs and stuff more then drugs (even though theres no diffrence between the two). I think im gonna try out the joint help & dha epa it sound pretty good

Your whole goal should be to reduce inflammation as much as possible. Your body is in a proinflammatory acidic environment right now. I would look into a healthier diet as well as things that reduce acidity and inflammation in the body. But I am No doctor. They will probably just try to prescribe you a medication that lowers your immune system. A customer to big pharma.

Great post

What about cissius, I thought I read somewhere on on the forums that someone used it for there joints

I was diagnosed with arthritis this fall and I was sending cissus to my mother would also suffers from osteo arthritis. However, rheumatoid is totally different as the body causes most of the systems because it is reacting to the toxins in the foods or medicines a person consumes or simple imbalance in chemicals in the persons brain can even cause flare ups. It's a complex disease, and if you choose to treat it herbally, I would only suggest that you try it steady and slow at first. Using low dosaging and her keeping a journal to monitor her pain levels and how it made her feel and any other changes that would be important to document.

Fish Oil, Gelatin, Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM, Cisus. I had some good results from Joint Fix (I think it's the name) by EFX

Ditto to the other posts
Fish Oil, Gelatin, Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM, Cisus.

My mother has had arthrites and she started taking cissus and really eased her pain, she barely feels it anymore.

thats why Joint Help would be a great option ;) :p

the paractin in joint help acts as a natural anti-inflammatory, activating PPARy!

in addition to most of what has been mentioned undenatured collagen type II. its in a few different products or available solo

Just had a rep contact me from Antaeus, he said hes gonna give me a bottle of there new product achillies to try. So props to him. Gonna def get her on some fish oil and dha, and try some cissius.

Cissus is HORRIBLE for RA. Use google

My recommendations are turmeric, magnesium glyciente, creatine mono 3G a day, b complex, taurine, vit d, selenium

And the most important is a gluten free diet I bet she gets flare ups just off eating bread

Yea man when she feels ok tell her to eat a loaf of bread and ask her the next day or so if she is having a flare up I bet she will

It has been suggested that dysregulation of the neuroendocrine system is an important pathogenetic mechanism of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The dramatic response of patients with RA to glucocorticoids, the aggravation of RA after resection of bilateral adrenal glands, the inappropriately normal plasma cortisol levels in patients with RA, the blunted plasma cortisol responses after surgical stress, and the essential role of glucocorticoids in the development of streptococcal cell wall induced arthritis in Lewis rats provide evidence that dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis or relative glucocorticoid deficiency might play a part in the development of RA.1,2 The involvement of glucocorticoids in the development of thymocytes further supports the role of glucocorticoid in autoimmune diseases like RA.3
cissus antagonizes glucocorticoid receptors

Rheumatoid arthritis (fish oil)

Multiple randomized controlled trials report improvements in morning stiffness and joint tenderness with the regular intake of fish oil supplements for up to three months. Benefits have been reported as additive with anti-inflammatory medications such as NSAIDs (like ibuprofen or aspirin). However, because of weaknesses in study designs and reporting, better research is necessary before a strong favorable recommendation can be made. Effects beyond three months of treatment have not been well evaluated.

Rated B - Good scientific evidence for this use

Creatine and Arthritis
Creatine causes modest increases in strength in people with a variety of neuromuscular and degenerative disorders, including muscular dystrophy, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, congestive heart failure and rheumatoid arthritis, as noted by "Natural Standard Herb & Supplement Reference: Evidence-based Clinical Reviews." Muscle wasting is a common side effect of rheumatoid arthritis because of the pain associated with movement. If you don't regularly use your muscles they will atrophy, or become weaker and smaller. As such, creatine helps reduce muscle atrophy and build muscle with light exercise, but it doesn't reduce the pain, inflammation or cartilage degeneration commonly seen with the various types of arthritis.

A couple tablespoons of coconut oil daily. It works well to dissolve in coffee.

Very good suggestion extra virgin or virgin coconut oil

She needs a high protein high good fat low sugar dairy and grain diet

Thanks for all the great info guys, really helping me out. Gonna do a lot more research before I get her on anything, I guess

For centuries, spices have been used as medicines. Today their healing potential is again being rediscovered, especially curcumin. In one recent medical study, curcumin was found to be better than conventional medications at relieving the pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis.

Curcumin is derived from the spice turmeric. Turmeric is a member of the ginger plant family. The ginger family is comprised of more than 1,300 members and many are considered medicinal plants including ginger, turmeric, melegueta pepper and cardamom. Although many studies have demonstrated the anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin, good medical studies comparing the effectiveness of curcumin to current medications are limited.

Medical research with curcumin or its parent, turmeric, is increasing. These studies suggest that curcumin and turmeric may have benefits for a number of medical conditions including many cancers, skin conditions like psoriasis, Alzheimer's disease, irritable bowel disease, autoimmune diseases and chronic pain.

One specific autoimmune disease often associated with chronic pain is rheumatoid arthritis. An autoimmune disease is a medical condition in which the body attacks itself. RA is most commonly expressed as pain and damage to the joints, especially in the hands. Severe RA can be life threatening and can damage many organs, including the heart and liver. Fortunately RA is relatively rare, affecting only about 1 percent of the population. For unknown reasons, women are affected three times more often than men.

Anti-inflammatory medications are used to help with the pain, but long-term use can damage the kidneys and increase the risk of stomach ulcers and bleeding. Safer pain-relieving products are needed for long-term use. Curcumin may be an option.

In the medical journal Phytotherapy Research, two researchers, one from the Nirmala Medical Centre in India and the other from Baylor Research Institute and the Sammons Cancer Center in Texas, published their work on curcumin. They showed that curcumin is more effective than the common anti-inflammatory medication diclofenac for the pain associated with mild, active RA.

In the study, RA patients taking curcumin for eight weeks had a 44 percent reduction in pain symptoms, while those taking diclofenac had a 42 percent reduction. It may not seem like there is a big difference between curcumin and diclofenac, but the difference was significant.

Interestingly, the curcumin group also had a greater reduction in overall inflammation (RA may have slightly improved) compared to the diclofenac group. There also were no adverse events with curcumin.

This was an initial study, but was well controlled and randomized. It is a good study and the results cannot be dismissed. Larger clinical trials are needed to confirm these results.

One drawback to curcumin is that, by itself, it is poorly absorbed. Black pepper can help increase absorption. Over-the-counter curcumin may or may not contain black pepper.

Although curcumin appears to be very safe, interactions with medications are always possible. RA is a serious disease and I strongly recommend consulting a medical doctor before using curcumin to treat RA symptoms.

1/4 teaspoon of borax(good ole "20 Mule Team") in a liter of water sipped throughout the day will alleviate and in many cases reverse arthritis within a few months. 95% of arthritis cases will respond to Boron supplementation. Borax is simply an alkaline salt form of Boron, disodium tetraborate, containing 4 boron atoms and 2 sodium atoms. In the stomach it reacts with hydrochloric acid to form boric acid and sodium chloride(table salt). Its toxicity is on par with table salt. A box of 20 Mule Team Borax is about 4 bucks and gives you probably a 5 year supply(no joke). Not only will it likely cure you of arthritis, it will save you a whole hell of a lot of money and doctors visits, so I am sure it will be extremely unpopular with them...

Boron is a trace mineral that is essential for joint health. Studies have shown that the countries with the lowest boron content in the soil have the highest cases of arthritis, and in those countries with high boron content in the soil, arthritis is virtually unheard of. In the US, the soil has an average amount of Boron, but the uptake of Boron is highly diminished when fertilizers are used on the crops, so very little of the Boron in the soil actually gets into the fruits and vegetables.

Boron also binds to fluoride in the body, and forms a harmless compound which is then flushed out of the body. Excessive fluoride has been linked to a whole host of health problems. Boron acts to balance hormones in the body and studies have shown men who supplement with 10mg of Boron daily had 28% higher levels of free testosterone than the control group. Boron is also one of the strongest anti-fungals, anti-parasitics and anti-microbials known and has been used to treat fungal and yeast infections.

Boron is to the Parathyroid what Iodine is to the Thyroid. The Parathyroid is essential for controlling the calcium content of the blood. Without Boron, the parathyroid will not function properly. When the parathyroid does not function properly the calcium-magnesium pump doesn't function properly. There is antagonism as well as cooperation between calcium and magnesium. About half of the total body magnesium is found in bones and the other half inside the cells of tissues and organs. Only 1% is in the blood, and the kidneys try to keep this levels constant by excreting more or less with the urine.

In contrast, 99% of calcium is in bones, and the rest in the fluid outside of cells. Muscles contract when calcium moves into the cells, and they relax when calcium is again pumped out and magnesium moves in. This cellular pump requires much energy to pump calcium out, and if cells are low in energy, then calcium may accumulate inside cells. Low cellular energy may be due to Candida, faulty sugar or fat metabolism, deficiencies, or accumulating metabolic wastes and toxins.

This then leads to only partial relaxation of the muscles with stiffness, a tendency to cramps, and poor blood and lymph circulation. The problem gets worse the more calcium moves from bones into soft tissue. Nerve cells can also accumulate calcium, leading to faulty nerve transmission, in the lens it causes cataracts, hormonal output keeps reducing as endocrine glands increasingly calcify, and all other cells become handicapped in their normal functions. In addition it causes intracellular magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is needed to activate countless enzymes, and a deficiency leads to inefficient and blocked energy production.

A further problem is that excess calcium damages the cell membrane and makes it difficult for nutrients to move in and wastes to move out. When the intracellular calcium level gets too high the cell will die.

So not only does the calcium get stuck in the cells and not get to the bones, where it is needed...magnesium is rendered ineffective because it cannot get to the muscles where it is needed. So in effect, the body HAS enough calcium, but because the parathyroid gland is not functioning properly due to lack of Boron, this pump is effectively shut down and the calcium is stuck in the wrong place---inside cells instead of in bones. Arthritis and osteoporosis then, can be seen as a disease NOT of having too little calcium, but simply having calcium stuck in the wrong place because the machinery needed to move it out and into the bones is all jammed up.

I have also heard good things from those taking something called Super Cissus RX, or Cissus Quadrangulus(sp?) extract. It acts to rebuild cartilage and connective tissue, and you can get it in capsule form or bulk powder from NP.

I believe that more and more researchers are going to come to realize that degenerative diseases and conditions caused by "aging" are nothing more than either an imbalance of minerals in the body or the depletion of essential minerals and nutrients in the body that are not being replaced. If certain minerals are needed by the body to perform certain functions, those functions cannot get carried out properly without them. The body just can't very well for example, substitute magnesium for boron and just go on its merry way.

Read up on this for about an hour this morning im very intrigued by this, gonna give it a shot I think

Jamaica---lowest Boron content in soil 70% of people have arthritis and even dogs can be seen hobbling around with it.
Israel---highest Boron contentbin soil 0.7% of people have arthritis.

Coincidence? I don't think so, although I am sure the doctors will say there is no link....I mean why lose all those doctor visit fees and medication fees to something that literally would cost under $1 per year to treat people.

Why I always believe you need to take your health into your own hands and take everything your doctor tells you with a grain of salt.

The problem with listening to doctors for advice on these situations is they have to give you the advice the establishment gives them. It's usually 20 to 30 years behind current evidence and science, and can be altered or suppressed based on lobbying and financial interests.

I personally would never listen to a doctor on nutrition, exercise, or any health related topic.

If you break an arm, go to a doctor. If you get cut open, go to a doctor. If you're in a car wreck, go to a doctor...

You want to be healthy and live long? Do your own research.

Borax=boric acid

Human Ingeston

Boric acid ingestion by humans can lead to boric acid poisoning, which is a serious condition. If a person swallows roach killing products that include borax or boric acid, he can suffer acute poisoning. Chronic poisoning results from repeated exposure to this substance. Symptoms of poisoning can include blue-green vomit, diarrhea and a red rash on the skin. Other possible symptoms include blisters, collapse, convulsions, coma fever, sloughing of skin and fever.

Take the boron supplement. Saying boric acid and boron are the same is like saying sodium and sodium chloride are the same because they both contain sodium.

Don't eat borax

Borax has an LD50 roughly equivalent to table salt, it is exceedingly safe. Insects cannot process boron which is why its effective against them. Humans are able to process it so it causes few problems. I have been ingesting borax for many months with no ill effects.
