Ways to shrink abs.

I am not talking about cutting fat around my midsection to get a "ripped" look, I am literally talking about how to shrink my abdominals. My abs are pretty distended, and I would like to know if there is a way to shrink them down. I am 5'11 at 300lbs @ 23% body fat. I hardly do any ab workouts but I am very active.

A problem for anyone else?

Any advice?

You might want to also consider finding a cortisol suppressor, like AbSolved (if you can find it) or oral 7-keto/PhosphstidylSerine.

sorry for asking..but i'm wondering how will cortisol suppressor actually shrink abs?...wat is the science behind it?

I am assuming by your post that your problem is not a flabby, overhanging gut as much as it is a protrusion of the muscle - this is caused by two things :lack of muscle tone and VAT.

VAT is visceral adipose tissue, which is an internal fat surrounding your organs. It pushes against the inner abdominal wall, and is caused/exascerbated by Cortisol.

If you can block the conversion of Cortisone to cortisol, then you will reduce VAT, and reduce the circumference of your waist/flatten your abs.

Maybe start with that?

Are you also sure you're 300 lbs at 23% bodyfat? That'd make you 230 lbs of lean mass at 5'11...

Well I did not do participate in hydrostatic weighing, but i took a caliper test (I believe a 5 point) and got a body fat of around 21. Then I did an electric read outtest with current and it came back around 25....so no I am not exact but i averaged the two.

If it helps, I have full definition of my cavs, i see veins popping out up to about 2 inches above my elbow (when lifting) and I can see my abdominal line to about 4 inches above my belly button...I have basically no fat on me except my spare tire (and it a hummer size tire) and a little bit on my inner thighs.

I had often wondered about cortisols effect on me, because i only hold my fat around my thighs and lower abs...I am a classic endomorph but I stay as active as possible to counter it.

try a good colon/intesinal cleanse product ... brought my waist down 1.5 inches or so

what product would you recommend?

I have a buddy who works at GNC so I can get his discount.

Colon Cleanse
definately go with "Dual Action Cleanser". They should have it at your local GNC if its a high volume store. I run a store and Ive used almost everyone we carry, and thats the best one by far. It is an "as seen on TV" product, but it actually works great.

Supplements
I would go with retain for AnEx at 3 caps per day. I would also try Lipoderm Ultra with clen added. I just dumped one bottle of clen into Lipo after using about 4 applications of Lipo to make room for it. Try 6 pumps in morning and 6 at night. If you really want to to shed it off, apply some cap cream before applying the Lipo/clen combo. Theres a thread in the Avant section about it.

Workouts
The only workout that ever really helped shrink my abs would be a triset I used to do. It was Decline situps for 20(min), Roman chair leglifts(straight legs) for 20, and Leg throws for 20. I did 3 trisets each workout and did the workout 3 times per week.

Im not an expert, but thats what has worked for me.

and concentrate on pulling your abs IN while you do your ab work.

Planks and T-planks to tighten up your TVA and internal obliques, also pick up some Designer Supplements Lean Extreme or Anabolic Extreme's Retain, and maybe some sesathin by Avant labs, your waist will trim down nicely.

Agreed on the Lean Xtreme...good stuff for VAT.

I'm using Lean Extreme and getting my blood work done for DS and combined with a good diet, as well as Alpha Drive XL and Rem my waist is trimming down like mad, i'm really impressed with it. My joints are feelin it a bit but if that's what it takes then i don't care, lol

I got some senna and activated black charcoal from gnc today to just try it out and see if it works for me. It just such a weird feeling, I literally feel bloated all the time..I think I have just gotten used to it.

Alright, lets talk cortisol blockers

DHEA? as 7-OH or as 7-Keto (the two metabolites)

or a no go on it.

Little background on me...

I was an avid powerlifter from 16-18 and put on considerable mass, before that I was a little butterball. Also I had puberty onset GYNO so I figured either I was producing a little too much estrogen or I just had an overall higher sensitivity. Like I said I carry mostly all my weight on my obliques and lower stomach. I am not try to cop a plea, but could it be increased cortisol?

I had a blood test about 7 months ago and I forget my test number, but my estrogen was at 31 i believe.

This might sound like a pain in the ass to do all the time, but it actually works to an extent. My cousin had this problem, only his were distended although he had a very visible 8 pack. For almost 4 months now, he started to use a girdle type "brace", taking it off only on certain workouts as well as showering. His midsection is noticeably much tighter, and has lost an 1" from his waistline. He says it almost forces you to learn how to hold a vacuum.

What is this vacuum? I have always been told when doing crunches

1.try to suck your belly button through your back- I am assuming this is the vacuum and might work transversus muscle? underneath your abdomen?

2.something called a kegel- where you contract your muscle that keep you from pissing yourself.

I dont do a lot of abdominal work simply for the fact I didnt want my stomach to stick out more, however Im going to try these maneuvers.

thanks for the brace advice.

Yes, thats pretty much the vacuum...You want to first exhale every last bit of air out of yourself then try to suck in your belly buttom to your back. It might be easier to start on your knees and hands, then sitting down in a chair, and eventually standing up. I found them easier to master this way.

VAT & cortisol have a correlation, but whether there's actual causality is open for debate. What's also open for debate is which direction that causality goes if it indeed exists. One might hypothesize that cortisol is the causal agent of VAT. However, the flip side is the possibility that a large store of VAT can cause an elevated release of free fatty acids into portal circulation that will act on the liver, and in turn, activate the sympathetic nervous system & increase cortisol output. Whether the chicken or the egg came first in this case is simply not known.

To the original poster -- it appears to me that you might be better off not focusing on the small details of theory & look at the bigger picture of reducing total BF.

You may also want to try a good probiotic with the colon cleanse. My first colon cleansing experience I lost 7 lbs in a week and you will be amazed at the matter you eliminate from your system.I now do a cleanse 2 to 3 times a year but remember the probiotics.Myself I use Primal Defense but there are others if you check with the board sponsors.

Is this along the lines of what you are talking about or is this something completely different?
