Volcom's; Southern California experiences White Flooding

dang the videos dont seem to play right for me. they keep freezing. I can fast forward a bit and it will play another 3-4 seconds then freeze. pity.

So by the looks of it, my form is way off on flys :) as I bring my elbows down lower (to below back) and my elbow angle doesnt change as I get towards the top so my overall ROM is shorter. hmmm

I set a couple new deadlift personal records today. .

Here were my increments:
315 * 10, 405 * 8, 495 * 6, 545 * 3, 585 * 1

In bold are new new records. I've never done 545 before, nonetheless 3 times. Then I got cocky and threw 6 plates on each side. I'm uploading YouTube clips right now. Got it all recorded

Day At Venice Beach

I've got a treat for you guys. My girlfriend and I went down to Venice Beach today. I haven't been there in YEARS. Last time I was there, i wasn't into bodybuilding yet. I was working out, but not a fan of the sport. Today, we dropped by many of the special bodybuilding hot spots and I'll share my little trip with you guys.

Here we got the famous, Firehouse grill. Let me tell you guys, there were a lot of beastly bodybuilders in there having brunch.

Next we have, GOLD'S in Venice. Where a ton of pro's trained and continue to train to this day. Again, beasts roaming this area on the regular.

This says it all

Now we got the famous, Muscle Beach

fcukin awesome man! damn i wish i lived next to that resturant, ive always thought of making a fast food place for bodybuilders and just fit people in general. Checking out all the OG spots too! good stuff man thats golden. First time ive stopped at this log too......youre a thick strong ass asian dude man!

Thanks man. I ordered the egg whites and pancake bodybuilder breakfast. Three BIG & THICK multigrain pancakes and they were good. i didn't even finish it and I was hungry. The portions aren't shy.

This bodybuilder looking guy next to me ordered steak, mashed potatoes and pancakes. He sliced his steak up and the waitress brought him a giant tub, so he could throw his mashed potatoes and steak together, in a giant man mix. I don't know why, but i thought that was freaking awesome.

Awesome, bud! Must have been a cool experience overall. You pack a solid physique, by the way! Keep it up!

i guess it would be pretty intimidating eating there...was it? I really wanna get something like that going around here or at least experience a place like that.

btw...i thought that was your 585 DL, i take it back youre not strong. LOL jp

Volcom, that is ****ing sweet ! Awesome pictures, and yes, you're one big, thick-muscled asian indeed !

The Firehouse .. I've wanted to go there since I first heard about it in FLEX magazine. THe article was on a 23 year old who has just won Junior Nationals (Justin something.. ? around 2004-2005) and he got the priviledge to train with Tom Prince (who has back to looking like a 'normal' man at this point in time) as well as Bob Chicherello @ the Mecca, and hit up the Firehouse post-workout. Man, I just can't imagine how much further it would've pushed someone's drive to have the ability to tru out these different bodybuilding venues.. I'm living in a small-ass college town, there ain't one bodybuilder here yet (competitive who has made a name for him/hersel, anyway), and so there's noone to drain for information, advice and the likes. Hence I'm here all the time .. ;)

Anywaay, I'm digging the way this thread has evolved. It's now a no-holds-barred pictoral/video thread.

Keep it up, Volcom !!

Here's my deadlift P-R: Invalid Link Removed
.. got a couple new dead PR's, and they're also located on my screen name ..

and a new bench press p-r.. Invalid Link Removed

It was a good day in the gym !!

- btw, it was hilarious when two guys came over running. I know I cheated BAD on the final rep of 315 on bench, but I also knew I could've gotten it up by myself. So they both run over and try to grab it, and I'm like, 'NOOOOO, don'ttouch, don't touch!!!' LOL.. I told one of the guys afterwards; sometimes you just get too stubborn . . .

haha, that was fricken golden. Great Vids.

Deadlift. People like you, who are as lean as turkey meat, don't pull 6 plates (on top of being tall; I always throw that in there because it matters), so wow, double props for that. Also, I like seeing the dirtier, almost not pulling it off lifts where there's a perceivable fight & struggle. I can appreciate a good, clean lift, but they can be sort of matter of fact. I loved the fight at the end. The first half looked like your last Dead vid, real smooth, looked like you could have pulled reps, and then that nasty second half, I like watching a good fight. Great stuff, and again, turkey meat lean guys don't pull 6 plates, so what the hell is wrong with you?!?!

Bench. Ballzy move doing a PR with no spotter!?! haha, thats hilarious. Good stuff man, I was glad it wasn't a 1 RM bench, I think I've killed 1RM vids on YouTube in my spare time. I like rep PR's, I can relate to that more then 1RM or block lifts.

Nice camera quality by the way, video and sound. Great deads dude, abnormally excellent for many reasons.

Not so much intimidating as it was natural and humbling. Natural, because there were so many "bodybuilders" around, not just regular gym guys, it felt really at home. Humbling, in that I felt incredibly small and non-vascular, and felt like I was at the bottom of the toddum pole, which isn't normally the case.

Awesome picks Volc. That's one place that I definitely want to get a chance to visit sometime in my lifetime. It's funny because when I think about vacations I think of California and Las Vegas, but for different reasons than the normal masses. I want to go see Muscle Beach and Gold's Gym in Cali, and I want to go watch the Olympia in Las Vegas. Different strokes for different folks I guess. That restaurant is awesome. I would love it if there was a place like that around here. I definitely agree with the humbling experience of being around people who are more advanced than yourself. It shows you an idea of what you can achieve and of what you want to strive for. I love being able to sit down with those kind of people and pick their brains. There's only two guys I've really been able to sit down with, because like Viking said, bodybuilding isn't really that big around here. The gym owner back home use to compete at a fairly high level so I've spoken with him multiple times and there is a guy who works out at the same place I do who is just an absolute monster who plans on competing one day. All in all, awesome pictures Volc. Hope you enjoyed your trip.

yeah, you said it. humbling is what i meant because you bb status isnt like it was before at the hometown gym.

Yes, you do need to get up that vid !! God dayuuum, that's impressive man !! You a powerlifter ? Got any other insane feats of strength like that ?!

Thanks man! My deadlift is disproportionately high to my other power lifts (squat, bench), and for a while I was training to set a new California USPF deadlift state record (for my age group). I've had it in the 600-630 range before, so @ that point 475 tends to feel more manageable. That's without wraps or a belt btw, all I use is chalk 100% RAW. I see you are catching up to me though, 585..... I am telling you from there you will just hit 600 in no time. I'll have get a video up soon here. Maybe Volcom can film it, since he lives like 20min away

As far as other strength stuff.... I dunno nothing on that level, but I lately

-275 x 8 incline bench (have done 12 before)
-315 x 20 STRAIGHT left deadlift

When I was 250lbs, I was getting close to 150lbs dumbbell press... but I haven't tried them since dropping weight. But yeah a while back I cut down from like 250 to 220, and my goal is just to try and get all my strength back to what it was before, then go from there.

Ah man I am jealous! That place sounds so good! I'd probably feel self conscious though being surrounded by people that were way bigger & leaner than I was, but I am sure it would be an amazing experience. Those pictures were great though, I especially like the Bodybuilding.com one at the end haha! Next time we need to get you an AnabolicMinds shirt so you can go up there and represent. I actually went up towards venice / santa monica a while back, I didn't get any cool pictures like that, but I do have a shitty cell phone pic of me trying to do a mythical pose with the ocean behind me. So, in the spirit of this thread I will throw that up

Hahaha, sweet, bro ! Way to fire up the thread with some more pics ! Looks like you're pondering on something.. there's something Captain Morgan-like about the way you stand, too ! LOL

I've never handled anything above 225 lbs on incline for reps (then again, I never do incline bench press anymore...hmm, something to consider.) so mighty impressive with the 275 * 12 reps ! I hate seeing people @ the gym throwin on 275-315 on incline and rep them out, I'm just like, 'HOW ?!' hahaha.. I'll be getting there soon, I hope. I got the 120s for 7 on incline db press a couple of days ago.

630-645 is a helluva lot of weight ! Damn, son !!! It's something I can picture at some point in my career, but further down the line . . lol

The cable super-set is an amazing workout for anyone. The other super-set, drop-set combos I'm doing might be for the more slightly, mentally disturbed, but the cable super-set, like you saw on the video, is very rational and a terrific pump. If you don't already do these, try them.

dood is this upland la fitness?

I did some crazy legs today ..

RAW, I love it. You're a whole other level of beast. You must have Wolverine's adamantiam bones pulling 600lbs with no belt. Animalistic stuff, bro.

Yeah man, doing that $hit raw just isn't right !! I need me belt and straps ! lol ..

That looked grueling Thomas, shite. Solid vid. Again, terrific feat of strength for someone your height. That ROM for you is a long road my friend. Good stuff.

Yeah man, doing that $hit raw just isn't right !! I need me belt and straps ! lol ..

The only thing I do Raw is Sushi. Last I dead lifted I had THREE belts on (but that's because I'm extra weary due to my lumbar injury), nonetheless, Raw spine, Raw Grip, very beastly.

I really need to get on some calf work, man ! THey're petty ! I haven't trained them much since May.. no idea why, they just weren't a priority any longer. Now I realize it just looks a little 'off' ! hahah

I'm goin to be honest, Since its basically you three talkin to each other i just gotta say, I 've prolly learned more about different lifts and things on this one thread then on this entire site... reps to all 3 of you cuz seriously i got new ideas for my brach's and new goals for my deads... :)

yeah it is. Good eye man, damn, you could tell from those limited angles?
haha well i actually recognized you. then i was like oh sh1t thats upland! i used to train at la verne, where im pretty sure i used to see you, but i recently switched to 24 in glendora cuz its only 14 bucks for me and it better fits my ever changing schedule.

^^^^feel like a creeper, but i remember faces way too well.

btw, that back and traps workout inspired my session tonight.

haha, right on man. Most of my friends who used to workout at LaVerne switched to the 24 in Glendora. I probably would have switched myself if it weren't for my current workout partner (Zack, the football line backer/MMA fighter guy I always talk about).

You can pay $10.00 for a guest day pass at Muscle Beach and workout there if you want. I saw some guy in there doing curls, he wasn't a BIG guy or anything. However, sometimes the place is packed out with FLEX mag cover looking dudes, then you REALLY know its Muscle Beach. Of course girls are gawking and asking for pictures, sometimes I'm like, "damn bro, can I get a picture?" (no homo).

Wow some awesome sh1t happened in here over the weekend! Awesome vids Volcom and Viking! Im so goin heavy on deads today!!

Go Big or Go BB.com, haha, I've been recycling that joke, I'm just kidding by the way. I don't want people to think I'm some sort of BB.com'mite. I hope it's acknowledged that its all in good fun.

MuscleTech on the other hand.....

I thought we'd enjoy that. My girlfriend was like, "what are you doing?" [She's an obsessed L.A. Dodger's fan, so I had to explain that BB.com are like the S.F. Giants to our AM.com., then she understood.]

hahaha

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to VolcomX311 again.

damn. i gotta hoe myself out more

Damn, some beastly weights & hella effort being thrown around in here. Great vids. Killer stuff..

You guys are making me itch to hit it hard again, trying to get my healing on right now so I can get back to it myself.

Keep up the progress guys!

I just got a haircut, so I don't look like the good cop in a Hong Kong action film anymore, but now I look like a street racer. Look for me in 3Fast 3Furious.

Off to the gym.

I've loved the feedback here guys, much appreciated.

I'm headed for another forearm focused "bis" workout. I'm not trying to sound like "I've made it" when it comes to biceps size or anything (far from it), but my bi's aren't getting any bigger anytime soon. It's a slow, chip away process, like digging a ditch with a fork. I could definitely lean out and bring out the contour a lot more, (faster then I could noticeably grow them) but I'm not doing that right now. However, my forearms are still responding in a noticeable fashion, so I'm going to milk this response rate until it dry's up. There seems to be seasons where a specific muscle responds better then normal, or the response rate simply stands out compared to the rest (that or I'm a mutant, so I'm hoping you guys can relate) and currently, those body parts are my forearms and traps, therefore, I'm milking them like a three armed Amish Farmer.

See you guys in a bit!

Yeah man, doing that $hit raw just isn't right !! I need me belt and straps ! lol ..

I love it though haha, my back has never felt better! Squatting however is an exercise where I might toss on a belt now and then, but not regularly, I've never messed up my back lifting, just my neck -- from squatting without a pad and having it rest on my neck bones too much.... had numbness in my fingers for months.

I always have a few people come up to me when I am training and get all preachy! I had this one guy come up to me and go "look, you must be new to this, but lifting without a belt is a really good way to end up in a wheel chair, I even use a belt when I do curls and I have never been to a chiro..." <<<<< O_o sweet neither have I, have fun sporting that belt curling those 25ers

BTW - Nor, I've been running some RPM & DRIVE last few weeks, so I just checked out your log on them from a while back, you are a cardio titan. I don't know what that ex / gf was complaining about (no homo), I'm just trying to keep it around 14% while I add some size back on.

Volcom, I actually watch a lot of Hong Kong cinema flicks so that cop comment made me laugh pretty hard

I'm trying your forearm techniques too. I don't think my arms suck strength wise.... 70s for 10 on DB hammer curls, but for someone that is a DL fiend I feel like my forearms suck. Actually my arms in general are crap to be honest, my chest, back, and legs grow with minimal effort but it takes severe focus of training just to get my arms to grow, and my forearms are the worst. They're long though, I think that is why I am good @ DL, long arms even though I am not really that tall. I've tried high reps, low reps, only way I can get them big is by putting myself in a BIG caloric surplus, I had them up to 18.5" @ one point, but then I cut 30lbs and they shrivled a little over an inch on me... <sigh> Has anything been really working for you lately?
