Underground Hip Hop Listeners?

I need my hiphop to have a bite.

I hate anything that sounds like spoken word poems over beats.

Wu tang clan, jedi mind tricks, army of the pharaohs, nas, heiroglyphics, krs one. i usually can relate to that stuff. it fits my 'mood'

but i agree ... the whole bling, material cash money junk out there ... leading people in the wrong direction

RR

I'm not a huuuge fan of Anticon either, although I do like some of Adeem's stuff.

Aesop Rock is an acquired taste, like beer. At first I did not care for him too much, but after a few more listens I began to really like him.

Renegade...check out Eligh from Living Legends, he is sick.

Particularly his album "Poltergeist."

It does have bite, incredible amounts, it's just poignant and you have to understand where it's aimed.

;)

immortal technique has some sick and i mean really twisted songs.

I like eligh n grouch too.

i liked swollen members bad dreams album.

I dont really know too much names but i listen to KTUH, its a radio station that plays different music in segments throughout the day...underground is always late at night, where it fits best.

I dont really get into it all that much anymore ever since i put that mental herb down. Its alot better when youre on some sort of mental high. But for the most part underground is tight because if you have a really good imagination it plays to that really well.

My friend has a little brother back in my hometown who has worked with Swollen several times PP. Moka as well as Mad Child and talks with their DJ/Producer on MSN all the time.

Or whatever. The name is aspectemcee though.

Yeah, they're pretty good. I've met Mad Child a few times, and he is not very good at freestyling w/o a beat, and/or spur of the moment. Prevail is sick live as well as a sick freestyler. If you look up another friend of mine, RDS, he has worked with Moka Only, Classified, DL Incognito, Jedi Mind Tricks, some very decent people.

what do you guys know about THE LEAK BROS.
cage (smut peddlers) and tame 1 (the artifacts)
the whole album is about PCP...but im really feelin it

El Da Sensai put out better solo work after the 'Facts broke up. But, That's Them is one of the sickest albums ever.

A friend sent me some of that album, but I haven't got a chance to listen yet.

Who is "Thats them" by the Artifacts?

Who is "Thats them" by the Artifacts?

The Artifacts were part of the New Jerusalem hip hop movement of the early 90's (see: WuTang). They are less dark and grimy than the Wu, more technical, and focus on MC'ing, Graf, DJ'ing, etc., in their rap. Really good stuff.

check this out---->Invalid Link Removed or Invalid Link Removed i really like this radio station cuz its like one of those you gotta know to get...it wont tune to it if you use the seek on your radio. Always have "different" music, underground.

but you gotta listen to it on hawaii time, which should be morning for you guys.

You know of a hip hop song with the hook that goes "in the sun, in the sun sun sun." That song was dope but im wondering who it was....

I just heard another one by ghostface killah, about the sun too lol. pretty good tho

I really didn't like the "Wrong side of the Tracks", back in the day. But I trust you Mullet, I'm sure the Artifacts were/are good. Wasn't Channel Live out around that time? What ever happened to them?

I heard Blahze Blahze on XM last night.. brought back memories. :)

not so underground, but good none the less.

Artifacts are from the wrong side of the tracks..the Artifacts are from the wrong side..side!

Yeah, That's Them is, in my opinion, better than Between a Rock and a Hard Place.

If you are into more intellectual/technical rap Ubi, search for an artist named Diverse. He's an Emcee out of Chicago, and more than likely in the top five.

Also, for those of you who like Blackalicious and do not know this, Gift of Gab released a solo album named "4th Dimensional Rocket Ship" that focuses on positive-light Philosophy.

I am sure Dj Quik pays him quite well...and being "Underground" does not mean that your unsigned....

He's underground enough for me in that he is not mainstream nor on the radios. I also forgot to add Andre nikatina!

I have heard plenty of Suga Free on the radio...

How about some BOSTON rap!

I dislike Aceyalone, a lot. A friend and I went to a show of his in Vancouver a few years ago, and he would not give us the time of day. I've also read where he has publicly stated he dislikes the large contingency of 'white' fans in underground hip hop.

J5 (Jayou era), Lifesavas (specifically their collabo with Brother Ali a few years ago), and Mystik are alright.

You had Aceyalone in your list of "Sick-O mcs"

There are underground oriented radio stations in parts of the country that will allow you to hear them on the radio. they are still underground. Unsigned and not covered in mass media is pretty much UG. imho anyways. Hell you can't even get a solid definition on what Hip Hop is much less what underground is.

I think to a certain point genres are defined by their sales. "Pop" for example, denotes popularity and a large amount of sales, "underground" denotes unsigned and a cult-like following. But, I think both of those genres have developed into definable musical styling. So, "underground" no longer equals simply unsigned, but a predisposition to more moody, jazzy, atypical, and original rhythm and blues sampling for beats, coupled with introspective, intellectual, technical, and more poetry-like lyrical content.

At one time 50 Cent was unsigned. However, he was still speaking about blunts, 40s, and *****es. And so, IMO, I would have not called him 'underground'.

There's still, according to New York citizens, underground artists who rap about that ****. There was one rap artist that became popular but was considered a underground persona for a while. Did a lot of rap battle crap. I can't remember his name but he did a song with Christina Milian.

Boot Camp Click
I don't know if many would consider them underground, but a good choice indeed. I still have a BCC t-shirt from maybe 96 or so. Buckshot from Black Moon is one of my all time favorite MC's. Heltah Skeltah is nice too, and Smif N Wessun(Coco Brovaz) are a perfect duo.

Right, but what I am saying is that, in my personal opinion, simply being unsigned does not mean you are 'underground'. To me, at least, underground hip-hop that I listen to has developed its own categorizable style, which is more than just a lack of signing.

Mars Ill - Sound Off

Whether you agree with his religious views or not, he is one of the sickest mc's around.

So what the hell are you hip-hop heads bumpin right now....? I am in need of some new material!!!

Yeah, alot of the artists I like came from NJ during that early 90's period. Artists like the Artifacts for example. If you like that really eastern feel hip-hop then you'd really like alot of the examples given Alexander.

Can't forget about the Souls of Mischief either, one of the sickest hip hop groups ever.

I used to love capone n nore back in the day when they were together. Their newer solo sh!t is whack though.
