Training log revamp ROUND 3 lol

I'm looking for a new routine and am looking at Layne Norton's PHAT. Basically Upper & Lower power days (3-5 rep range) and 2 hypertrophy days (lower weights, 8-20 rep range) and I think a leg day thrown somewhere in the mix. Might be an option similar to what you are thinking?
Sorry I responded to seeing upper lower, I don't know the actual phat routine il have to look at it.

Right now tho I spent a few hours last night putting together a full body that I'm gonna stick with while adhering to the diet I was given. I gotta stay on track. 6-8 weeks and drop 10-12more lbs in the process before making a decision on what I'm doing next.

Right now I'm just trying to make sure I get to the gym a couple times a week and I figured if I'm doing full body and something happens where I have to skip a day, full body is the easiest to pick up where you left off because there's not really any variables or risk of skipping a body part.

I'm just trying to make everything as easy as possible for myself for the time being. I'm feeling better but still not 100%

My only issue with upper lower, and this is for me personally, if it works for someone then go for it. But with upper lower it's too unbalanced for me.

On a lower day it's basically just a leg day, but then I gotta cram chest back shoulders biceps triceps all into one workout. I'd rather to push pull legs so that each workout has the same amount of work.

Ive tried it a few times but I feel like legs are getting a ton of work and the upper body isint getting enough.

Now in defense of a upper lower, my upper body is much better developed then my lower so I can see using this to bring up my legs.

But I think I would still do a 4 day split with upper push, legs, rest, upper pull, legs rest, rest or something like that.

I always say the best workout is the one you stick with and progress at and I've never stuck with a upper longer for more then 4-5 weeks so my opinion is kinda skewed
Totally agree the best routine is the not only the one yiu stick to but also the one that makes you look forward to going to the gym

Yeah, I like full body workouts and do those for most of my cutting phases. My thinking is, that with full body WO I give each muscle group a frequent stimulus, so kind of giving the body a reason to hold on to muscle mass, and get a pretty good increased calorie expenditure with every WO. I don't know if those hypothesis actually mean anything, but that's what I do. I also like 2-1 'hybrid', with half of the body in first WO, then the other half and then a full body WO. Allows a little more volume being implemented.

Regarding the upper/lower split and upper body getting less of a WO, than legs; on the DC upper/lower split, biceps and forearms are done on the lower day to even things out a bit. At least on the guide I shared on the other thread the other day and that's how I do it. I think the guide is based on Trudel's advices.

The typical split on the Layne Norton's PHAT is upper body low reps/lower body low reps/rest/back and shoulders hypertophy/lower body hypertrophy/chest and arms hypertophy/rest. At lest the one I've seen.

Yep. And this is even more important for people who are not used to hitting the gym no matter how they feel or what kind of day it has been. I remember helping one friend out, who wanted to get in to lifting, but always chose some fancy looking programs off the internet and always ended up skipping WO's here and there and eventually quitting the program. So I had him start with just push ups in his home 3 days a week, with some type of progress goal I made up.

Actually it’s a little different than that. It’s a true powerbuilding workout in my opinion. Combining strength and power at the beginning of the week and hypertrophy at the end of the week. It was effective for me in building strength and muscle, but it can get time consuming.
Basically it’s like this

Day 1: Upper Power

Day 2: Lower Power

Day 3: Cardio or Rest

Day 4: Back & Shoulders Hypertrophy

Day 5: Legs Hypertrophy

Day 6: Chest & Arms Hypertrophy

Day 7: Cardio or Rest

For me it was actually a pretty effective workout. It’s worth checking out if you’ve never tried it. Of course you can modify it to meet your goals, but I think that’s the jest of it.

Ok, I've done stuff very similar where I go p,p,l, rest, upper, lower, rest. I actually do like that type routine

Just started DC after New Year. Haven't done that in years. Too early to tell regarding progress, but so far I like doing it. Except the widowaker sets, I kind of don't 'like' doing those, lol.

Nobody really likes doing widowmakers - you only like the rush of accomplishment after completing them. If you aren’t scared before you begin, you probably aren’t going far enough mentally in them.

That’s because the desired aesthetic of bodybuilding as we’ve always known it does not promote even development of all muscles. It rewards small waistlines and an X shape. This pervasive ideology has entirely shaped the way people like yourself view ‘complete development’.

Look at a gorilla - the pinnacle of natural primate muscle. Look how enormous the abs, erectors, obliques are. That is even development, and you can see it in how a leaner heavyweight open strongman typically develops. Even when you take the bodyfat away, if you diet down someone strong those muscles will be proportionally larger than is rewarded in bodybuilding. Bodybuilding instead focuses on underdevelopment of those (in relationship) while hyper focusing on extremities. Look at the necessity of site enhancement in things like calves, delts, arms. NOBODY ever site enhances erectors, abs, obliques. They wear waist trainers.

Lower body has abs, obliques, erectors, hips, glutes, hams, quads, adductors, abductors, calves. But in bodybuilding they just call that “Legs” and relegate it to one day per week in a bro split, or 1/3 of the focus in PPL. Most of those muscles are bigger and stronger than triceps, biceps, forearms, pecs, delts, lats, traps.

End rant 🤪

I disagree with what you think my view of complete is because I agree with what your view of complete is

My view of a complete physique is different then what I want to look like. I think a complete physique is more like Jay cutler then Chris busted, Chris is just more appealing to the eye

And IL never look like either of them so it doesn't matter lol. I "think" A reasonable physique goal for me is somewhere between Zane and a jacked mma fighter kind of build. I lack the dedication and commitment it takes to get much beyond that

I agree, on the differences with BB and a well balanced strength physique, the guys who tend to be really strong are built like silverback apes!

Yeah, excatly. And that's also why I put the like in apostrophes. I'll like anything, that gives me progress, but those widowmaker sets - not fun to do, lol.

And to your point on the feel of accomplishment, I really got that last week, when I did a pretty good widowmaker set on leg press. After I had sat on the floor for a moment after the set, I really felt proud of myself and about the workout, heh. Like the kind of feel of accomplishment I'd get from breaking a new PR on a compound excercise. It was great and the feeling lasted the whole evening = )

I've never got in to the 'this person's physique is my goal' type of thing, that many seem to have. Not saying you have, but many seem to have. Nothing wrong with it, just that I don't strive to look like anyone else in particular, but rather just a better version of myself, even though there's obviously countless of people who look more jacked/athletic, than me.

But to your comment about a jacked mma fighter; me considering myself more of a 'athlete who lifts' or something like that, than a bodybuilder or something, if I'd have to choose a goal physique based on other people, then Yoel Romero comes to mind.

The only good thing about a Widowmaker is when it's over, Literally thank God it's done that's the only time a Widowmaker sounds good is after it's over.

If you truly enjoy doing widowmakers , And I mean doing them how they're supposed to be done,
you are a sick puppy

Romero does have a good build…..actually for an MMA fighter his build is similar to a
Frank Zane type of build. That was a good example.

I actually like the look of this routine a lot based on my work schedule. I could do upper/lower on Tuesday and Wednesday and then PPL on Friday Saturday Sunday

He is definitely an example of elite genetics, to train as a professional MMA fighter while looking like that is pretty d*** impressive. I'd bet if he stopped mma and made a real transition to bodybuilding he would be competitive in classic physique. A good coach could slap "good" 20-30 lbs on him in a year or 2.

I'm not ginna quit until I look like Jay cutler circa 2003 lol

I think in this specific picture of Jay, he he's the largest most muscular person to ever walk the planet. At least as precieved in this picture. I know Ronnie, ramy and rhul were a little bigger but this specific year Jay was like 275 I think but he looked 300+ it might be the freakiest picture ever that still had a balanced lookInvalid Link Removed

Yeah that is a sick picture, something about grayscale / black and white that just makes things pop too! He looks so unreal he looks like one of those musclehedz cartoons from back in the day.

Also, I wonder who he got to wipe has ass back then...

I wonder what his arms measured there….I would think maybe 23”+
What about those thighs? They look as big as my waist!

I was guessing around 32 on the legs myself.

Ya, ppl don't realize how gigantic these guys are. I think it was 2021 I was in Florida at Disney and the Olympia was going on and there was a lot of bodybuilders in town. Even some guys that I'm guessing we're amateurs because I didn't recognize them but they were gigantic. At that time I was roughly the size that I was in my picture that I used for the discount code. And there was a few guys that walked by me in the park that were 3 or 4" shorter than me and probably 50 pounds heavier than me and single digit bf

I remember walking through the water park and I was way more muscular then anyone we saw and then one of those dudes was sitting NY the wake pool and my girl was like, if yiu ever look like that yiu can find a new girlfriend because that's disgusting. Not many chick's like that look. It's guys who start giving you attention when yiu look like that. But sure as **** when I saw him I wanted to ask questions lol. Teach me something bro lol.

So almost every Thursday my 92 year old grandmother stays at our house. She's half there, 50% Of the time she knows what's going on and 50% of the time she's kind off and mixes up names and tells crazy stories.

Well she was just looking out the window while we were eating and says you guys are never gonna believe what just happened , 2 soldiers just grabbed a man and dragged him up that tree. 😳 😆

Then 5 min later she told us a story from 12 or 13 years ago that was completely true and on point. Then 5 min after that she asked me if my son was my brother

It's crazy because when I'm out in public right now I get comments and looks daily not just at the gym and I'm sure you do as well but I just say thank and in the back of my head I'm like you have no idea how big and muscular a human being can really get, yiu really have to see it to believe it. 90% of the time I'm in public I'm usually the biggest most muscular dude but every once in awhile I'll see that 1% and I just want to be like show me the way master lol

When I met Ronnie Coleman. Damn… like a standard sized dildo next to the great American challenge 😳

I always wondered why chicks weren't into that look. It just screams everything you'd think they would want as far as sub consciously or evolutionary like they would just naturally be attracted to that and not even know why

That's cool that you let her stay over tho bro. I took care of my grandparents towards the end and it was cool up until where my grandpa got to where your grandma is now and I had to help sell their house and stuff. It was tiugh but I got to make up for a lot of lost time because I was too busy out running amok with drugs and all that

Really? I wouldn't think any girls would be into that look. Even I think it's disgusting lol. Like, I know the way I want to look is quite unattractive to the average person and I'm ok with it because I'm not doing it for attention or girls. I'm doing it for myself. I'm not even that big and when I go out in public I cover up. I only wear tank tops at the gym and the beach for the most part. Right now I'm pretty normal looking, I mean I always think I'm normal looking. Even at my biggest I don't feel like I'm that much bigger then the average guy my height. It's only at the gym when I'm all pumped up that I feel like I look good. Maybe it's body dystrophy

Ya I don't want her to go to a home. She lives by herself but my uncle sleeps at her house 3 nights a week, my aunt sleeps over her house 2x a week, she spends 1 night at my house and 1 night at my other uncles. During the day we have someone stop by and check on her.

Yeah, all my Grandparents are gone now, but I used to love to just talk with them. When you hear some of their stories of what they grew up in and all they dealt with, you realize how easy we have it today. Both my Grandfathers passed away when I was young, but my Grandma on my Mom’s side lived to be 95 and my Dad’s Mom was 100, she was born in 1892.
