THUNDERGOD ROLLS OUT A RECOMP..........REALLY!! (sponsored)

Hows the recomp TG, Any noticeable difference?

NEWS FROM THE TRENCHES

TRICEPS

SEATED OVERHEAD CABLE TRICEPS EXTENSIONS

180 X 9-5-4 = 18 total reps. DC rest-pauses.
130 X 18

I knew after the first couple of reps on that DC set that it was too light. So the reps are overly high. I slowed the reps way down and used very strict form to compensate somewhat. Next week.....yeah you know....more weight!!

ONE-ARM CABLE PUSHDOWNS

90 X 10
60 X 15

Great isolation movement. One of my very favorite triceps exercises. The contractions are so fierce.

REVERSE-GRIP PUSHDOWNS

160 X 10
100 X 17

Heavy stuff on that first set. But I like heavy stuff!! I'm one heavy dude!!

SUPERSET OF ROPE PUSHDOWNS WITH ONE-ARM DB EXTENSIONS

Rope Pushdowns: 150 X 11
One-Arm DB Extensions Behind Head: 40 lb. DB X 15

Oh the burn. Grinding 'em out now!

BICEPS

MACHINE PREACHER CURLS

190 X 10
110 X 17

I've been in love with preacher curls since the first time I tried them...oh so long ago!! LOL

STANDING CLOSE-GRIP CABLE CURLS

170 X 12
100 X 21

These pump up my little arms until they're almost medium sized!

STANDING ONE-ARM UPPER PULLEY CURLS (Hercules Curls)

80 X 11
50 X 17

On that back-off set I was telling myself, "Keep on Thunda, don't stop!"

BENTOVER DB CONCENTRATION CURLS (ala Arnold)

75 X 12!! YEAH!

Somewhere around halfway through biceps, it was like I got a second wind. At first I thought, "Damn..this would have been nice to have had from the start of the workout." But then I remembered what the Icelandic strongman Jon Pall Sigmarsson once said, "It is better to have a bad start and a good end...than a good start and a bad end." Right on!! I know what he meant.

Pumps were so pronounced...they were almost painful. But admittedly, I'm into pain!! No pain...no gain!!

MIT (medium intense tempo) Cardio: 20 minutes

Keep Battling Hard My Fellow Warriors Of Steel!! :duel:

Of course you'd disagree .. if Mullet found a study that says one thing, it's the only correct thing, isn't it ?!

.. I don't care if it's recorded by an EMG, I don't care what study said this and that .. You're bound to find numerous studies suggesting a full ROM is the only correct form/way to perform an exercise, and on the polar opposite, you're bound to find quite a few studies suggesting it's better to stop short of touching your chest.

.. to end any further discussion, it's based on individual preference, and you just gotta find what work for you. PERIOD.

You are quite the angry Norwegian lately. I am not sure what your issue is with me, but it was a discussion! Chill out, and have a happy holidays!

I have some errands to run right now. When I return, I will give some further updates. Sorry for the delay. Be back soon.
I will say that I'm feeling absolutely GREAT!!! :woohoo::dance:

As always TG...numbers are huge. I like higher rep numbers with the tricep extensions. The stress on the elbows is less. The tricep pressing movements get lower rep ranges for me. Just my 2 cents...

Ridiculous strength on your arms TG!

Yah ridiculous strength period...

Getting back to bench and range of motion, I forgot to mention that technique is also involved to expand the chest by lower your shoulders and pushing them back thus elevating your chest. This could be the extra 2 inches and causes more of the stress to be on the pecs as apposed to the front delts. Now there is nothing wrong with being a delt presser if your looking for efficiency and numbers but the method I use is much better for development of the chest area. I used to be more of a delt presser and I had an underdeveloped chest and huge front delts. Using the elevated or big "chest" requires the bar to touch the chest for full contraction.

This is exactly what I do DW, for as long as I can remember.. I'm fairly happy with my chest development from this motion.

Tried the non-touching, constant motion explosiveness method this morning, and I gotta say, it was different. Yes, I felt increased tension, but actually my pump was not as good as usual, and it just didn't feel the same. Now obviously, we been training for awhile, and when you do something different than you've always done, it's gonna feel weird.. but first reaction is not preferable. I think I'll stick with my own form.

Yah what I am thinking if you use an elevated chest method then you will need to go to your chest the get that extra stretch in the pectorals.

I have another trick when using dumbells to take advantage of that extra stretch you might want to try out. I believe in going very low then when your about an inch or two from your chest turn the dumbells in and tap your chest for an extra stretch. You may already use this method too. I love the extra pull then get from my tie ins on in.

I do, in fact! We are very similar in some areas bro.

Damn, I've got to try this out my next chest session! Very interesting !

Thanks for the advice ..

Yes a fellow technician... I like that. Being natural we need to have our little tricks to increase tension using lighter weight than a drug user would.

Thunda - your boy Timber is gonna be sparse for a little over a week - off to Vegas and PA for a little rest and relaxation... Well PA I'm gonna be torturing myself at the gym... This is for Money, Snag, DFly, Russian, Jew, Viking, Volc... all you fools beat it up while I'm gone, and best wishes for the New Year.

You will be missed in your absence brutha. There's no one like you. Happy New Year. Toast it in with some fresh frost-dragon blood. No better way. :head:

Hows the recomp TG, Any noticeable difference?
Yes. And forgive me for not giving some kind of update by now. This weekend's horrendous bout of stomach virus has thrown me behind in every area. I'm so glad to be over that stuff. That was a rough 36 to 48 hours.

Plus, I don't really feel the need to update on supplement's effects everyday anyways. It takes a few days here and there to start noticing differences. Or, at least it does for me. Admittedly, I'm slow.

Bodyweight Changes:
My bodyweight at the start was 248. 9 days later now it is at 238. I know that's a lot. But the stomcah virus surely has a lot to do with this. No nutrition for 36 hours. I tried several times to keep a little oatmeal, cereal, or fruit down, but to no avail. And I'm sure I lost lots of fluids as well. I was badly dehydrated. My kidneys were even hurting like someone had kicked me in the back. Now I'm drinking lots of water. I mean lots! And I'm expecting to actually put a couple of pounds back on in the next few days, as I've been eating like a horse since yesterday!

Vascularity:
Increased. I was looking very veiny this morning during my workout. Looked like a lot of snakes crawling around beneath my skin. Veins not only in my forearms and biceps, but also up in my delts, pecs, and even traps. It was cool.

Hardness:
Increased. I know this will sound familiar to DreamWeaver. I've been sitting around constantly flexing my muscles today. That's the PRIME. I don't know how or why, but lots of people report that same effect. And I like it. Arnold said he used to flex his muscles a lot during the day on purpose, to make them appear harder and more dense. That, and I think we guys just like to show off even for ourselves!!

Thermogenesis:
Significantly elevated. I'm guessing this is from the ReCreate. I know how much I already perspire from my ECAY stack, but it's more than that now! I was really dripping with sweat this morning. And my inner body core temp feels elevated. Not uncomfortably, but increased.

Pumps:
All I can say on this one is....WOW!! And I'm thinking this is the Anabolic Pump. And they do mean PUMP!!

I'm feeling almost 100% recovered from that nasty little virus. So I'll be able to provide better, and more frequent updates now.

But I can already say, from what I was experiencing before the virus, and now that I'm better, is that I like the effects of this combo. :head:

I'm considering Recreate again now that NP is going to be having the sale. Free Y-RD with purchase, so I figure I can take those two, along with 25mg Ephedrine.

Ship the fat loss.

damn TG, that's some amazing changes in 10 days!

sucks when weight loss comes from being sick though :(

As always, the numbers are impressive bud:thumbsup:

Motivation Time!!!

I can't wait for this new animated DVD to come out next month!! I'll have some new pre-workout fuel to work with!!
It's gonna be awesome! FOR ODIN...FOR ASGARD!!! :hammer:

Now, a little something to get me ready for this morning's big battle!!

Nice updates TG, good stuff.
I know the sickness/weight-loss really sucked for ya, but you can definitely use that to your advantage. It's not optimal timing, but it does kinda give you an advantage & headstart in the weight-loss area! Use that warrior mentality to turn a disadvantage into a strength!

Haha on the Prime wanna-make-ya-flex note, this is a cool phenomenon. By the way, I incorporate those DC-inspired static flexes after each bodypart during training, 20 second flexes, plus the deep static stretches as well. I love flexing!

Bring on that thermogensis!!! :bruce2:

It's early, but I wanted to be one of the first to say to everyone:
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 2009 is going to be great!!
Why? Because, Thus sayeth the God of Thunder!! :hammer:

I hope everyone is making their resolutions list. I am. There's some things I need to change. And I am bound and determined to do so. By-Odin, it will be done. :box:

Now....everyone go forth with renewed vigor and zest. Live life to its fullest. Grab the world by the throat and make it give you the desires of your heart!!

I would like to go ahead and announce my first resolution:

I am immediately changing my workout routine back to my 3 day per week split. The new 5 day split I adopted 3 weeks ago has caught up with my CNS, big time. I have driven it into the freakin' ground with my Berzerker-geared balls to the wall type of workouts. I am not recovering optimally as I need to. I must give my system time to recover between workouts if I expect to progress.

AZMIDLYF and DreamWeaver both tried to talk sense into me when I revealed weeks ago that I was stepping up the frequency of my training. I wish I had listened. The 3 days per week schedule that I had followed for almost 2 years was working perfectly. Gains were manifesting themselves on a continuous basis. Increases were sure and steady.

Now, since going to the 5 day split, the first week or so was great. Anytime you adopt a new system, you seem to respond favorably at first. Your system responds quickly to new stimuli. But as the 3rd week of the new system began, so did the symptoms of horrible overtraining. Some people can train very frequently and not seem to overtrain. Others have to have to keep a very watchful eye on their progress to see if it increases or begins to decrease.

My last week of workouts have been extremely tough. And I am one who cannot dial back the intensity of my workouts. I am hooked on insane Berzerker type blasting!! :aargh:

So....starting NOW....I am returning to what worked so very well for me. And that is the 3 day split. I'll return to my Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday battle sessions. I was recovering perfectly from those. And my eagerness and desire to train were off the charts.

Now, since I've been doing the 5 day split, and experiencing the over-stressed CNS and the overtraining in general, it's been like waiting to go to the dentist's office or something. I don't want to dread my workouts. The 3 day split will put the fire back in my belly. The days between training will only further whet my desire to hit the weights something fierce.

So after this short round of experimentation, it's time to go back to what worked so well. That's what we have to do in weight-training. No certain system works for everybody. We have to find exactly which type of training suits us best. This is one thing I know after 25 years of training.

So this is the new/old split that is perfect for my training mentality and physiological makeup:

SUNDAY: Back, Traps, Biceps, and Forearms.
MONDAY: HIIT Cardio.
TUESDAY: Total Rest Day. The 5 day split didn't even afford me an off day!
WEDNESDAY: Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps.
THURSDAY: HIIT Cardio.
FRIDAY: Legs--Quads, Hamstrings, and Calves.
SATURDAY: HIIT Cardio.

This is how it's going to go down. This works for me. And it starts TODAY!! :head:

I like this TG.. very well thought out. And I like the idea of more rest/more (& isolated) cardio for you.

The only suggestion I might make is to insert your total rest day following your leg training day. But that's just a personal preference thing on my part - I don't care for cardio following a leg day..

Dig the intensity in 2009 brother!

Damn right, and if it ain't broke, :nono: fix it ! :D

I too do best on the 3 day split, I guess it's the extra rest days and being a little longer in the tooth, but my decrease in volume over the last few years seems to be yielding better results which leads me to believe... I used to do way too much.

Snag hit the nail on the head. After legs I feel crippled and in no mood for anything...great day to heal!! TG, you will feel so much better and won't need the super stims to get in there and reak havoc as previously needed.

Damn TG, taking on the New Years with Fists of Fury, huh ?! I personally did not think you could crank up the volume and intensity of your training any further .. but you never seize to amaze me!

Looking forward to a naaaasty little transformation here, my kind sir !

.. as for the length of the HIIT sessions; what are you aiming for? What is your preferred cardio-machine to do HIIT on?

I too do best on the 3 day split, I guess it's the extra rest days and being a little longer in the tooth, but my decrease in volume over the last few years seems to be yielding better results which leads me to believe... I used to do way too much.
I did very well with my low-volume routine last year.

Damn TG, taking on the New Years with Fists of Fury, huh ?! I personally did not think you could crank up the volume and intensity of your training any further .. but you never seize to amaze me!

I have 2 different machines that I use for my HIIT cardio. An exer-cycle that has the arms (handles) that you row back and forth as you cycle with your legs. Of course, it has adjustable tension to make things harder. I like this one.
Then the other machine is a seated rowing machine that has resistance from 2 hydraulic cylinders that you can adjust the tension on. I hate that son-of-a-bitch!! It wears my old ass out!!

I have been doing 25 minutes of HIIT cardio up to this point. After a couple of minutes warming up at a moderate speed, I jump into my all-out intervals. 30 seconds riding like my ass is on fire....followed by 30 seconds of medium speed. I've been doing 20 such intervals. Then I slow down to a very moderate speed for a few minutes as a cool down.

I'm not sure that I really want to increase the number of intervals. But I will focus on increasing the tension on the machines to make those intervals even more difficult.

What I do plan on doing for the next few weeks is to start taking longer walks/jogs with my dog (my son!) than what I'm presently doing. Usually now, I just walk/jog him around my neighborhood for 10 minutes before my weight workouts as a warm-up to get my body temp up and some blood flowing through my limbs. But I will do some longer afternoon walk/jogs with him starting this week.

I only have 18 days left on this recomp!! Time has flown by. Plus the virus set me back just a little. Now I'll dig deeper into the reserves and finish this thing strong! :head:

After this recomp though, my hardcore readers/subscribers are going to love what I have planned next......

Motivation Time!!!

Here's one of my viking brothers showing how it's done!!
Magnus Samuelsson finally retired after 2008's World's Strongest Man Competition after 13 years of competing. He made it to the finals a record 10 times. And won it in 1998. He will be sadly missed.
