i got DOMS in my lats from yesterday when i experimented after my workout. now i will admit that deads really helped build my entire back, lats included. when i do straight arm lat pulldowns i can feel my lats burning, but no real DOMS the next day, even though i'm training them to failure.
after my workout, i tried burning them down - i dropped the weight down to 50 for straight arm lat pulldowns. now here's where it gets interesting. the weight was so light, that i didn't wrap my fists around the bar - just kept my hands flat, palms down. i got the same burn from doing 50, as i do rest pausing 130! lean forward slightly, bring the weight down to my hips, and brought them up to eye level - no further, all while keeping my hands flat. this managed to take my delts out of the movement, and for one of the very few times, i felt my lats getting demolished.
in the future, i'll do this before the rest of my back workout, and see if i can really tear them apart.
it was humbling to drop the weights by 80 lbs, and i'm a little shocked that it worked as good as it did. if i didn't explain this properly, please let me know, and i'll attempt to describe it again.
