wondering how many of you guys are social in the gym.normally I use this time to relax think about things and lift not really very talkative unless someone else is.

so how social are you guys in the gym??

I like to socialize to some extent as long as it doesn't get in the way of lifting. Some people go overboard with socializing and do no work.

You know its funny I just saw this thread because during my workout today I was thinking about this very topic. I was looking around going about my workout and noticed a group of 4 guys standing in the middle of the gym talking and half an hour later they were still there standing around talking. I was like wtf they come to the gym and have a meeting right in the middle? Dont get me wrong I am social in the gym and talk to friends that come by but I talk during the rest in between my sets of my workout.. I dont know how these guys got anything done at the gym by talking the whole time??

Personally, I just avoid everyone and only focus on lifting. I acknowledge the other guys( small gym), but other than that, myself and the other guys just come to lift

Made a lot of friends when I worked out at the Gold`s in Edmond a couple of decades ago.Have had a home gym for many years so I am not up to date on gym etiquette these days.People seem to have gotten a lot less friendly the past few years,so if I had to resort to a public gym I would probably just get through my workout as quickly as possible.

i usually don't chat it up either - helps that i don't know anybody.

..not too talkative to begin with- but that's just me though

I try to avoid "gym-tourists" as they tend to have no concept of rest-time between sets and will talk to you even during a set.

Guys that look that they lift regularly are fine by me to say a quick few words here and there.

Last week I was doing pull-downs and a fat guy asked to join and was talking my ear off the whole time! I'm serious, he would talk to me during my set and during his own! I just walked off after my second set to get a drink of water and waited for him to find some other poor fool to annoy.

Same here. There are guys at MetroFlex I talk to for advice, to help with lifts/spot and sometimes to shoot the sh*t but rarely do I just talk. Time is valuable and I want to get in, kill it, get home and eat. People that talk more than lift piss me off.

not a big talker, i try to keep it to a minimium, but some ppl just come to where i'm working out and stand there and talk....plus theres a few guys at the gym that stand around and talk about about training or diet or whatever and i can't help but think....you read to many magazines

i've been at my gym a few years and it has crossed my mind to switch gyms for the simple fact that i won't know anyone and i can get more work done without having anyone say anything to me

I'm not much of a social guy unless I need to ask someone to spot me or unless someone comes up to me to ask/tell me something. I come to the gym to lift and nothing more.

I get kind of annoyed when people huddle around a machine/rack/bench and just half hour-long conversations with each other. That actually happened over the weekend, these two guys sat on the calf machine and Leg Press and just talked about the UFC for the duration of my workout. I don't mind them talking, but please don't take up a machine just to talk to someone.

I dont like to be social until im done with my workout.. When im lifting i dont like when ppl i know come to talk to me.. If i see someone i know a quick fist bumb and back to busting out some reps.

I'm only cool with the few guys I ask for a spot and will only talk between sets. I just avoid most people because my gym has gotten progressively full of douchebags. However, when a hottie asks for advice or asks to share the equipment then I will break all my rules :D

you lucky mofo.

cant say i socialise with many gym ppl. most of them cant stop talkin after the start! one trainer guy always interrupts my session but he's friendly. after a few wks instead of waitin for him to finish i just continued my session.... there he was just kept on talkin like i was there the whole time. now thats wat i can efficiency.

I try not to make eye contact. Some people will suck up whatever time you have leaning on machines talking..... I hate that.

Switching gyms worked for me. It's like starting fresh. By avoiding eye contact, most people get the hint that u don't wanna be bothered.

When all else fails I wear old combat boots with a pair of baseball pants that are to small on me. Top that off with a flannel jacket and a trucker cap and no one in their mind will want to talk to me!

Lmao!!

I used to not talk much with people at the.gym. But then my girl are friends with people there which then ends up having to talk to them.... Grrrr. I miss the grunt work in and out. No questions just business. My girl loves chatten.... Gotta talk to her about this.....

i am a social person outside the gym, inside the gym im kinda a people watcher. i try to stay focused and during my lift i am but occassionally ill see someone on the bench and ill offer them a spot. or ill be watching people that look better than me to see what kinds of lifts they do or techniques. if i want to know something i dont hesitate to ask the big guys whats up, im serious when i ask, i just let them explain and listen very carfully, no small talk. then go back about my business, its all about respect.

i have been know to call a couple guys out for lifting like a idiot too lol guys trying to deadlift 3 plates and a 35 with their back arched like a damn cat, his buddy like come on try again, one time. dude cant even get it off the ground and both their form looks like ****. i get their attention and just say really, come on. me and like 5 other guys had been rolling our eyes for their last 3 sets. the worst is people in the squat rack, dont even get me started...
