I have never smoked in my life but think i may enjoy smoking socially....not really interested in hearing about how i could get addicted.
Would smoking hinder my gains or cause weight gain/loss?

Would appreciate a quick answer since i'm going out in an hour =D

*Cigarettes would be the only thing i would smoke and it would only be a couple times a week if that.

Couple times a week won't really affect you except in the long run, 5-20 years down the road, unless you get addicted to them.

i'm not worried about the addiction....i've fought off other things in my past and worst comes to worst i'll go through the withdrawals and straight up quit

It does supress your appetite.

Been smoking for a few years now. Quit, started again, blah blah.

Yes, it affects you. I try not to smoke within 6 hours of the gym because it makes a big difference.

You think you may enjoy smoking ciggs socially? I'm sorry but that is an utterly retarded notion.

I have to agree with Rugger here,... I mean, why don't you just drink and drive too?!?!

your an utterly retarded notion. but i have to goto work so i'll explain that one later.

What does it mean to smoke ciggs socially? It doesn't lube you up like drinking does, so maybe you just want to be able to hang outside buildings and smoke with the cool kids?

haha.... smoking cigars socially is a completely different thing and if you think you aren't going to get addicted think again my friend.

 come on drum

cigarettes = low nitrogen in blood. low nitrogen = no muscle growth. do a google search for cigarettes and nitrogen, then one for nitrogen and muscle growth for more information.

you could do another search for "smoking and protein synthesis" for further information.

I have never smoked in my life, but think I may enjoy sacrificing my health just to look cool. It might even make me fit in with people who dont accept me for who I am, and who I probably shouldnt be hanging out with in the first place.

Thats what I thought you said.

ive never heard of nicotine socially thats a first, that stuff makes u irratable i have noticed that lots of college kids use it to study, but there are much better nootropics for this purpose.

you know to avoid the effects of smoke, you could just vaporize your tobbaco

Damn, all those attacks, guy's over 18, adult, can legally purchase them, knows the risks by now from the warnings and ads, he didn't ask for a lecture, he asked what would happen if he smoked a couple times a week.

It wouldn't affect his gains, very little, maybe........but nothing to boast about.

Is he most likely gonna get addicted? Yes

hookha and cigars are the social smokes broski

but as far as cigs and body building go, I'd prob wait till after you're done lifting to light up ;)

well i'm not going to smoke then goto the gym lol.
i go out 2 or 3 times a week and once or twice it will be at like a bar or a pool hall or something. i know the risks, i just wanted to see what all the hype was about.
i've smoked a couple times now and i like the buzz it gives you but i don't like the health risks, the smell you get, or the image it portrays.

it was a learning experience and i'll never do it again. i just wanted to make sure smoking last night wasn't going to f*ck with me too much.

thanks for your thoughts and concerns all. and of course thank you rugger for showing your face once again when i ask something not to be flamed for but to be informed about.

I was joking around about burning a cig WHILE lifting :D

I chew a bit of tobacco (pouches).. i know i'm a stupid disgusting person. I too like the mild buzz. However in this case, most people cant tell you're doing it, and there's no stink :)
Very enjoyable when drinking imo.

I can def tell it affects nitrogen levels. it kills my vascularity.

how are we any different than the stim addicts? muahahaha. was totally j\k. whoever flames me for saying that is getting neg'd

Social smoking is the most popular kind of smoking in the UK. half the people i work with only light up when they are out with friends and especially if they are drinking.

Seems dumb, addiction seems inevitable, then the jokes on you.

Don't start smoking!!! Give it up while you can bro. Trust me, you think you'll be able to smoke and go to the gym... Maybe for the first year, then it gets really hard. Hard to quit, hard to lift. Don't start! Your gains will fly out the window, and you'll want to give up smoking to get them back, but addition is a str8 up B*tch. You will find yourself in a world of frustration and light weights. I can't stress how bad it is for your workouts, nevermind your entire life. One of the worst things ever invented.

If you want motivation to quit, go visit some lung cancer patients. Talk about being scared straight :|

Almost every person who ever becomes addicted to cigarettes think its something they can control. Its a crappy habit.

You may enjoy the buzz the first few times, but when your wheezing after climbing up a flight of stairs, smell like dogshiit, and get constant headaches whenever you don't smoke a cigarette every 2-3 hours, you may rethink how much you like it.

Most importantly, women who don't smoke usually won't get with guys who do smoke.

lol i'm not smoking any more. it was a 1 night/day thing.

and ya that was another reason i didn't want to continue....gorgeous tiny chick near us a couple nights ago and when she saw me light up she turned her nose at it i was like. dam. there goes that possibility :-(

drummaboyzl, I'd say dont mess with anything addictive.

I've been entirely resistant to addiction to anything I've done so far, and thus my casual attitude towards using tobacco. For some people, obviously, it gets a death grip on them. Dont give it that opportunity

dunno i've got a fever and a headache but i'm taking some aspirin water and going to the gym and will get a good night sleep. hope its not from the 5 that i did smoke lol

Did you have any booze?

Ciggs have over 4k different chemicals in them the actually nicotine isnt whats addicting, its all the other additives. That is why company's put the chemicals in the stogies.

Got something I want you to read, im not gonna harp and tell ya never to smoke thats your decision, but as a heavy smoker for 2 years finding out this tidbit of info was all it took to make me quit.

“A study from Copenhagen Muscle Research Center in Denmark found that smoking interferes with protein synthesis in muscle. They infused the amino acid Leucine into smokers and non smokers. The leucine contained a chemical marker so that scientists could measure the rate the muscles made new proteins. They also found that genes suppressing protein synthesis (i.e., myostatin) were more active in smokers. Smoking interferes with muscle building
and repair, which would make it more difficult to make training gains in weightlifting
or excel in sports. (American Journal Physiological Endocrinology Metabolism, 293: E843-e848, 2007)”

Uh, what are you smoking?

The nicotine is whats addictive. The chems change the burn of the cig and the flavor.

I quit for a period of time, and use a nicotine replacement to break the habit. NICOTINE. Not some other chemical.

w/e helps you sleep at night, ive done papers over the effects of smoking.
And I've been smoking for the past 3 years, the last 6 months with the nicotine replacement.

I also have friends working for phillip morris right now, in the cig division. I had an offer for an job from the same division.

Chems change taste and burn, and sometimes the absorbtion of nicotine. If you have ever had a natural cigarette they burn longer. This is why. They are not addictive themselves, thats why there is nicotine.

Saying you did a paper on it doesn't make you right.

No but personal experience does but im done arguing over this it is stupid, go ahead and smoke away just know your killing your body period end of discussion.

its harder based on what you were smoking. for example, the biggest additive in marlboro's is cocoa. that's why when your friend ran out of smokes at a bar, and bummed a camel, he needed another cigarette 15 minutes later.

its called "brand recognition". if anyone would like to test this, give your marlboro smoker friend a hot chocolate to sip on while smoking a camel - he won't need another cigarette for another hour, or whenever he normally lights up.

the cigarette companies used nicotine as a base, but it wasn't addictive enough for them, and everyone kept switching brands - so they added stuff in it to get you hooked on "their stuff".

Not to mention that it has plenty of carcinogens packed in which help promote cell damage...

What's so strange is that the other day I spotted this guy on the treadmill running like a mad man, then he walked outside and grabbed a cig! Dude was like he wanted to cough a lung up!

He then proceeds to ask me, once he came back in, that he wonders why he just can't get over the hump on the treadmill or his workouts. I asked him how many cigs he smokes per day and he says about 15!?

Then he's like "You think that has something to do with it"

I was like, "nah, cant possibly be" and walked off...
