I've got my Navy PFA coming up and another CFT. Normally I look forward to them, but I just ran the Marine Corps Marathon for my birthday and am still in recovery (aka hurtin like a mofo) haha

NEWS!

Well for starters my ship date has been pushed back to May. The reason being that in this slow economy, A LOT of people are turning to The Marines for a career. I think that money is a HORRIBLE reason for anyone to think of becoming a Marine Corps Officer. But I digress.

To be fair to the surge, the quality of applicants has increased dramatically too. The minimum PFT to ship is 225. The average PFT of those shipping up to Quantico these past months has been in the 260s, out of a possible 300.

With that in mind. My target run time to ship is still 23:00, but 22:00 would be a much more competitive time. With full pullups and situps, 22:00 would yield a 276.

I've also been told that unless I want to be 'taped' I should be a solid 10lb under my weight limit (186lb.) I guess I can still be relatively big @ 176. Although I wouldn't care if they checked my bf% and what not because I was closer to the 186 mark. Either way, I can do A LOT to my body in 6+ months.

So, to recap.

The Journey has been extended to May!

A new run time goal of 22:00 has been added.

The goal for pullups has been achieved but is as varied as the days of the week. Let's set a new goal of 30 (without coming off bar) to make 20 easy breezy. :)

Situps has been achieved. 96. What's 4 more? Other than 4 more points. With the competition being what it is, my personal goal is going to be 130 in 2 minutes so that 100 is achieved with time to spare.

So gentlemen. 6 months. No deadlifts, light squats. We've gotta put something together. Keep in mind that I'll probably be relying more on DB exercises since BB puts a lot of compression on my spine and for the time being I'm trying to decompress and re-align my spine. I also have to keep the running as high priority. So at most I'll be lifting 4 days a week.

Good to hear the update SB. Don't worry about being taped. If you have any muscle on you at all you get taped. I have for years. Nothing like walking into the First Sergeant's office, ripping your shirt off for him to tape you, and have his jaw drop and tell you to get the hell out of his office. Great times bro! There is a lot to do in 6 months, wish the Army had a similar problem of having to delay people, but I digress as well. What kind of running program are you going to use to taper the time to 22:00????

In all seriousness, PIT at least 2x a week. Longer runs (3-6 mile) once or twice a week. That has helped to bring the run time down and I feel I can still make up some more seconds continuing it. I'm always open to suggestions on other plans though.

it's still a ear off, but if u r going to run the MCM next year, remind me as it gets closer. We could meet up, or i can help you figure the logistics out. It's a bit confusing as where you can park and how to get around. I only live 10 min from the starting line.

I'm still gonna run marathons, but want to work in some tri's and ultra's as well. I like mixing it up.
 
Thanks for the invite bro and I will Deff keep that in mind. Hopefully I won't get sent back out to the dessert again, this being my 3rd deployment to this area of the world. I like the tris personally. There is a more physical challenge there with the swim and bike thrown in. Would love to do an Iron Man, but we shall see what training the Army will let me squeeze in. Kind of fun for skinny running dudes around me to see a 6'3" muscle head beast pass them. LOL good times!!!

I've also been told that unless I want to be 'taped' I should be a solid 10lb under my weight limit (186lb.) .

I never could understand this about the military, at 130lbs. I was at the top end of my weight range for my height of 5'- 7".

Not doubting myself at all. It's not a competition with anyone but myself. I just know that I'm at the higher end when it comes to the whole weight game. A 140lb or 150lb will more than likely be faster than me just because they're carrying less. It'd be good to get in stride with a group going about the same pace and get a good cadence going.

That's the way to do it. In fact, when you get to OCS, you take that first PFT. After that they divide you into four to five different ability groups based on that first run time. You will spend the next few months nearly every morning running with these guys. It's awesome to watch yourself and your battle buddies next to you get faster and faster as the days go by. And when the final PFT approaches, you will smoke it and surprise even yourself. They run you like gazelles out there.
SB you are going to love crushing those skinny guys on some of the marches and such. Stronger guys ALWAYS destroy those pesky little gnats at these. Good luck next week bro!!

I hear you man, Just jump in the fast group, and stay with them.. I see guys that low blowing out 2 miles 12-13 min .. But when **** hits the fan I want some meat behind the guy next to me:)

hey lifter I couldn't have said it better myself brother. I went from a 14:30 2 mile to a 12:24 2 mile just by not giving up and sticking with those small dudes. Truth be told, I also want someone with meat on their bones in the foxhole next to me. I'm a heavy guy, and one of those runts won't get me 10 feet. Let me start by saying that yesterday's workout did more than I was expecting. My Hams and Glutes were pretty tender today. I didn't want to run, but decided to anyway. The time was kinda high today, I know. Legs were already sore, it was f*cking cold out, I don't want to hear it. :) Legs are currently Jell-O. Took magnesium before hand cause I didn't want to cramp up a mile and a half away with it being cold as sh*t out. I took more magnesium and BCAAs when I got in. About to do some micellar casein and fish oil before calling it a night.
