Protein and Airplanes

Hello All,

This is probably a very strange sounding question but I had to ask, does anyone know if it's okay to bring Protein powder on an airplane. With all the new regulations on what to bring and what now to bring I had to ask.

I wasn't sure where to post this question, figured it is a general supplement question.

Thanks fellas.

Best,
WB

As long as its in an original container and NOT liquid its fine. Caps same thing. I took Eq-Plex and P-Mag with cycle assist with me last month. In a backpack, which is harder to get through than a checked bag.

29 years in the Aircraft business.

Pills are ok in a bottle. Powders are iffy. Ive gotten thru twice with pills in my last two flights (within the last month)

However I was stopped just last weekend at LAX with Taurine (helping my hangover) Pain in the ass. Just explain to them what it is and they'll "run a test" which they didnt with me. I offered to eat some of it and they said that wouldnt be needed and gave it to be to be on my way.

So all and all YES

its fine so long as its in the original bag. outside the original bag, expect to be harassed. if you look like me and its in a sealed original bag, expect to be harassed. but it made it through.

Thanks guys. I'm going to give it a try. I'll be traveling with some older respectable looking business gents so hopefully I'll get through.

Best,
WB

Perfectly fine... for domestic and international flights... but dont be surprised if some of them act like ****s... just kindly explain to them and everything will be fine...

I save my sample packs just for flying. It's just easier for me.
That's an awesome idea. Had never thought of that.

I was in the same boat as you when I went out of town for a week. I didnt want to deal with airport security, so I just bought a small container of whey when I got 2 my destination and made sure I consumed all of it before I left. The only thing I took was my multis in thier original container.

I routinely fly with it just in zip lock bags (in my carry-on -- i never check luggage). Unless they can prove its something illegal, they cant really stop you. They cant detain you for more than 15 minutes either or it begins to constitute an illegal arrest.

Of course, you might get hassled... but memorize this statement:

I have a medical condition that requires specific nutrition. These are food items. Is there a problem, Sir?

They cannot question your medical condition or really ask any further questions. All they can do is test for bomb residue.

it is ok, yes you can bring it, I did last summer to Florida and everything was fine. Just dont put it in your carry on lol

Dude I'm always bringing powders with me. I've never once been stopped. I always put it in my carry on. Never had any issues.

If you have any questions man, just called the airport and make sure.

Just put it a carry on in little ziplock pouches.

In SUmmer of 05 I took a big bunch of NP bulk powders onto a flight from California; they were sealed and I had the order info though. I would just make sure I have the protein label, either from the bottle or printed-out. Shouldn't have any issues.

one things for sure though, dont take any peanut butter with you! lol

I have traveled at least five times in the last two years with supplements, some in their original container, others in zip-lock bags (like protein powder) because the containers are simply too big for carry-on. I've had no problems because once they open the bags they smell chocolate, banana, cookies and cream, or whatever protein flavor and ask "does it taste good?" and let me pass.

The last time I traveled I took a tub of Xtend with me and the plastic was too dense to see through the x-ray (or whatever it is) machine, so they opened the bag, pulled out the container, opened it, got the smell of grape, and again I was asked "does it taste good?" and they let me pass...

I think it all depends on what airport you're going through and if the security person is in a decent mood. I've had some a**holes bitch me out before I even went through the security checkpoint because "I was taking too long to take off my belt and was holding up the line"...

i flew 3 weeks ago with 1 tub white flood, 1 tub green mag, 1 tub syntha-6, and 1 tub AXcell all in my carry on. no problema. (other than some funny looks)

Just did a trip heading out from Detroit then to Philly and then Boston. Had 2lbs of protein in a plain white tub, and multi vitamins, Taurine caps, and some pro-hormones and what not, no real hassles at all.

They did take a sample of my protein power when I was leaving DTW, but it took 3 seconds and I was on my way !!

Safe Traveling ! Cheers !
