Looking To Make My Own Preworkout

hey guys, i've been out of the supplement game for a while. i just can't keep up with all the new stuff that's coming out, and as i grow older, i grow more leery of trying new stuff (i never really know what it is, nor do i know what kind of side effects it could present now or down the road).

i'm always having to watch my blood pressure, so preworkouts are something that kind of scare me, especially the "kitchen sink" formulas as i like to call them. i also tend to wonder if there are more to pwo's than is labeled and the whole energy drink label thing really got me worried about this, haha.

anyway, as a result, i've decided to try and do a "make it yourself" preworkout, so i know exactly what i'm getting. here are some ingredients i was considering, let me know if there's anything i should add/change.

1. caffeine - basic, tried and true. i'll probably mix about 100mg as my stim tolerance has gone way down since i cut back dramatically on pwo's.
2. forskolin - i've read that it can aid in fat loss and endurance. i've also read some studies that suggest it may have a beneficial effect on blood pressure. i figured i'd go with whatever the recommended dose on the bottle is.
3. agmatine - i love this stuff. it gives me great pumps and helps with blood pressure as well. 500mg seems to work for me, and is much more economic than 1g
4. citrulline - same as agmatine, but i think they compliment each other nicely. 3-5 grams mixed with 500mg agmatine gave me some good pumps last time i stacked the two.
5. lclt - another ingredient that i've heard helps with fat loss. i read a study recently that it can have a negative impact on cholesterol and/or hardening of the arteries, so i'll probably go with a fairly low dose.
6. bcaa - for flavor. probably one that is leucine-heavy.

any other suggestions?

I like the ones you have; personally I would add Beta Alanine to that mix but not much else.

looks very solid. you can add beta alanine but it looks great overall.

what I like to do is buy a stim heavy pre workout and only use 1/4 scoop or so and add my own ingredients in it.

ok, cool, thanks for the help guys. i'll throw some beta alanine in there as well, it's easy enough to come by.

L citrulline -6grams
BA -3.2g
MCC - 2.5g
750mg HICA (or 5g Leucine)
Caffiene -200 to 400mg
Agmatine-500mg to 1g

That, or most definitely add:

-2g COP to increase endurance
-1-2g PLCAR since it works with COP as a cardio-protective aid and it helps in fat loss (which is always a plus, yay!)

But yeah...COP and Citrulline Malate are my most favorite ingredients for home made pre-workout concoctions. Vasodillation and enhanced recovery between sets help for peak performance and peak power output.

^I definetly agree with COP. MN PeakBeta+ actually contains LCLT/Norvaline/and COP. I don't know if you'd prefer something capped or if you're fine with bulk ingredients. You have a good list tho man. LCLT helps me a lot with recovery so thats an awesome choice. Another note: Analyzed Supplements will be having a sale soon, so they'll have your Forskolin-95 and Agmatine

Ya if you are looking for some of our bulks at a great price sign up to be an AS insider: Invalid Link Removed

OP I think your combo looks quite effective with what you have planned so far. Maybe also look into a nitrate product to add. If you go with Beta Alanine and Forskolin make sure to dose them at other times of the day and on off days to get maximum benefit as well (I also dose Agmatine on off days as well).

I dont "make" my own preWO mix but always add some extra stuff to it. iForce Beta Alanine and L-Citrulline are my favorites.

Keep me informed as to what you do, would like to look into doing something like this myself.

well looks like everyone covered my guggestions, but i was going to say BA and COP

Why is norvailine and niacin and a nitrate like max pump being ignored?

Not to hijack the thread, just curious though. Do a lot of people prefer to make their own preWO?

great suggestions guys. if i were to go caps, i was just going to empty the cap into the mix, so it doesn't matter to me whether they're bulk or capped.

i guess one issue would be taste, especially if i'm doing a lot of ingredients. i did read some good stuff on cop, but it didn't really cross my mind when i made my list, so i'll probably add that.

regarding taste, i always dosed (as i think a lot of people do) citrulline pretty high. i figured i'd cut the dosing for this so i wouldn't have to add more flavored stuff, so i'm starting to wonder if i should cut out citrulline altogether to add cop and ba. either that, or cut out agmatine (because it is somewhat pricey) and buy more bcaa's for flavor.

pyrobatt - nitrates are another supplement that i've enjoyed, but kind of make me nervous about long term use/side effects.

bolt - so i shouldn't take forskolin and BA at the same time? maybe i'll hold off on one or the other as i really just wanted the ingredients to mix together for now (kind of low on cash, and really just looking to include the "must haves").

Good luck eating then. Nitrates are everywhere . Even more so in a bodybuilding diet. We already get a ton. But I understand. This is the reason I take stim breaks and 2 weeks off a year from working out.

If you are not already using creatine mono as a supplement I would add that in along with the other suggestions.

Edit: Creatine and beta alanine do not have to be taken pre workout.

i realize that, which is why i didn't want to "overdo" it, as i eat stuff like spinach on a regular basis. plus, i know there's some discrepancy between certain nitrates/nitrites (like those in spinach, for example, and those in deli meats). i wasn't sure that taking them in supplement form would be the best idea because of the higher doses and their "synthetic" nature. i figured it's kind of like how we get creatine in our diet as well, but not in the quantities we would via supplements.

i've been reading some conflicting information regarding mono and an increase in blood pressure. i've taken it off and on for years and never really saw anything (not even a little bit), so i figured i might as well just stay away from it as some say it can cause an increase in blood pressure, although there is some disagreement about whether pulling water into the cell would actually result in such an increase.

Truthfully I have not heard that about creatine but I never looked into BP issues either... Might be for the best then to stay away from it lol

Sounds like you need to make an sns order:)

citrulline & agmatine > cop & ba. imo

No they are fine to take together. I was just saying that their benefits aren't necessarily acute, so dosing them daily is preferred (and getting adequate dosing of each, at least 50mg Forskolin and 3+g Beta Alanine a day IME).

Choose whichever Carnitine salt has the benefits you are looking for. :)

this endeavor has been a lot more expensive than i originally thought it would be haha.

maybe i should just go with something like protocol and add some caffeine and citrulline or something. jeez, i knew it would cost more, but i figured id be getting like 90 days worth of servings. by my calculations, i'll be getting like 60 days for over $100, damn.

There is a few nice benefits of making your own though. You can tweak the ingredients to suit your routine for instance on cardio days you don't need the pump so you can use less of the agmatine and cit mal. If you end up hitting the gym close to bed time you can choose to use less or even leave out the caffeine to make sure your can get your sleep to. The only 2 ingredients I find myself running out of quickly are agmatine and beta alanine. The other stuff seems to last me a while though.

that's true, it has sucked having to use 2 different preworkouts depending on what time of day i go (hemavol for evening workouts and jacked micro for morning workouts)

I would avoid Niacin at all costs, but thats just me :D

Bulk allows full control over dosing; i.e. getting 6-9g Cit Mal and 1g Agmatine whereas a lot of pres half half of these amounts (which I think is good to cater for those who prefer less) but might mean that you need 2 scoops which would make you burn through the tub twice as fast.
