The effects of yo-yo dieting over a long time can cause a lot of damage to your hormones and metabolism. This is usually the cause when females are eating next to nothing, doing too much cardio, and can't lose weight. As indicated by your tests your RMR where if you laid in bed and did nothing is more then what you are eating, and why you can't lose weight when you factor in NEAT + exercise putting you at such a large caloric deficit it is doing more harm then good.

This can only be fixed by figuring out a few things
- are there any underlying medical issues that need to be fixed?
- Are there any issues with thyroid, insulin, a1c, testosterone, or estrogen? I know some girls who have the testosterone of 0, and no matter what they try and do it won't work.
- Raising calories to restore your metabolism
- Get out of the yo-yo dieting of large swings of calories and then low periods of calories

Social media is a mental mind F for females because everyone always shows themselves at their leanest, and its hard to see that image fade in the mirror, but we have to realize being lean for so long is not always optimal, ideal, or healthy for our long term health.

A majority of studies show yo-yo dieting leads to a higher body fat percentage. This can lead to other changes that make it harder to lose weight.

Layne had a great point from his FLF Book with researching showing the following:
Check out this study (in rats but rat metabolism is very similar to human metabolism) detailed on page 27 of Fat Loss Forever (link below) where researchers had rats diet to lose a certain amount of weight. Then they let them regain the weight back to their original weight. They put the weight back on twice as fast as they lost it. Then they attempted to have them diet back down eating the same amount of calories as before but this time it took them TWICE AS LONG to lose the same amount of fat on the same calories as before!!!! Then they let them regain it back to the original weight again... THEY REGAINED IT 3x AS FAST!

When you do so much damage to your body over a long period of time it will be a VERY LONG and a very mentally draining process to trying to restore your body to homeostasis. It won't be easy and you will have a lot of mental struggles in the future, but it can be done if you trust the process and know there will be a lot of uncomfortable periods and decisions that will only make you stronger if you follow through with them.

I could post a lot more but I think you get the point and I don't want to write a bible in here.
We live and learn, we make mistakes, but we have to carry on and push through them in order to be the best person we can be. Don't let it get to your head and know its a temporary setback.
Wow, thank you so much!!! I needed this and I’m sure Kat did as well. I’m currently dealing with the effects of yo-yo dieting. I’m on more medication than I was before I started my journey. Definitely learning through my mistakes and trying to get back on track.

And yes, social media totally destroys people’s self esteem, and is the reason why I stay off of it.

Thank you! You’re right! I’m definitely learning (the hard way) Sad when you feel like you’re doing the right things but learn you’re just setting yourself up for failure. Social media does make it all worse for sure! I just need to stay FOCUSED and positive and not let my old habits creep in. Thanks again!

Things are going well so far! I feel like I’m eating a lot believe it or not! Sad when your body thinks 1550 is a lot of calories!

Workout this morning was good. I got interrupted right as I was getting to my top sets on bench so unfortunately, I only did working sets of 115x5x3 but I also did 3 sets of DB bench with 50’s. Haven’t been able to do them since my surgery. Finished up with a few other accessory exercises and some cardio.
Btw air fried sweet potatoes rock!!

This mornings deads felt great!!! Most of the time I need several warmup sets to get the stiffness worked out. This morning, I should have made larger jumps between sets...but I worked up to 245!! Not a lot in the big scheme of things but HUGE for me! I did working sets of 185x5, 205x5, 225x3, 235x3, and 245x1. Probably had another rep or so in the tank but played it safe and just held that one rep for a good 6-8secs.

*Having those adipowers really help to grip the floor and not feel like I spend forever trying to find my footing! All big thanks to @puccah8808

Happy Thursday everyone! Week has been good...hitting my increased macros each day. Actually starting to get a good bit hungrier the past few days. Not going over macros or anything though. I am weighing every day- I HATE weighing EVER anyways- and it’s a HUGE challenge not to let it get in my head as each day fluctuates 1-3lbs. But, I want to get things reset, repaired, and functioning properly again -in order to actually meet some goals!

As for training, yesterday was a rest day and today I did shoulders and finished with cardio. I prefer to start shoulders with shoulder/push press but both squat racks. So I started with DB press’ but still got 3 sets of of 95x4. It was a good workout. Finished with 15 mins of cardio.

Had a great workout this morning! It was time to get my oil changed and the place I like is actually about a mile walk from my gym. So, I dropped of my car and walked to the gym. Nice warmup when it’s almost a 100 degrees at 8:30 Started with walking lunges while I was waiting on a squat rack. Got 4 sets in. Squats went fairly well. Didn’t get any higher that last week but did some drop sets and pause sets. Finished with some bb hip thrusts, RDL’s, and some iso work. Was absolutely drenched at the end of the workout though! Soaked through my tank and onto my hoodie too! Haha

I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend! We spend most of the weekend outside working in the garage and the yard. The weather was absolutely beautiful!! I’m so ready for fall!

This week is a deload week. Went in for Deads/back yesterday and a little cardio. Apparently, my calves are pretty tight bc I woke up last night with my left heal (good foot) hurting a lot. Stretched and rolled a good bit when I woke up as well as after this morning’s cardio. Today was chest, tris, and some shoulders.

My step-son is a truck driver and was just outside Sacramento a few days ago. He took a pic of the moon and it was red due to the wildfire smoke. Great pic, but so terrible the wildfires are causing so much damage.

Yea, it was crazy! We got back last night and it was super smoky. We didn’t know if our flights were going to be cancelled.

Glacier was nice but it was super crowded, so we were not able to enjoy it. Next trip... Denali National Park or the Grand Teton !

Happy Monday all! Increases calories a little more this week. Also, added a preworkout meal- I have trained fasted pretty much the whole entire time I’ve lifted. It was mostly out of simplicity of not having to get up earlier to eat. The few times I tried part of a shake or some fat beforehand, I didn’t notice much of a difference. Today, I had homemade cream of rice(brown rice w/ almond milk, cinnamon, and cranberries) Pre and post workout meals are the same as of now. 38p, 50c, 5f.

I have been dealing with some allergy/cold symptoms since last Thursday. Slept off and on a good bit Friday and Saturday. Feel ok other than congestion. Last weeks deload seemed to be perfect timing! I felt off all week last week. This morning’s workout was great! Strength and energy were good throughout the workout! Was one of those days, that I didn’t want to be on a time crunch! Haha

Hope you’re all having a great start to your week! Here was some of my meal prepping this weekend.

Finally seeing the light! Starting to feel much better today! I’ve been able to train regularly all week thankfully though! Tuesday did 4 working sets of 225x5. Wanted to be able to keep my reps at 5 or higher. Slept until 6 yesterday morning but went for a walk on my lunch break. It was low to mid 70’s and felt AMAZING!! I’m so excited for fall! Today, I stuck with 95x5 for shoulder press felt really good. Nutrition is good! It’s great to be increasing calories and feel like I’m getting full sized meals again- without gaining weight too!

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend! We drove out to see our daughter and her dog for a couple of days. Left after I trained legs on Friday and came back Saturday evening. Had to be back for church on Sunday. Hubby preached and we lead worship. Went to the beach while visiting our daughter and the shore was covered in foam and reeds! It was crazy!! The waves were pretty big for around here!

Training was great this morning! Wish I would have found someone to spot me but was able to get a few sets of 125x3. Dropped the weight a couple of times to finish with some higher rep/pause sets.
