Will be working on one of the Aleutians islands (Adak) for about 7 months. Only about 50 people live on that island now.

We are removing a bunch of UXO (unexploded ordinance) and also removing about 8000 cubic yards of fuel contaminated soils. I'm an environmental Construction Manager. This is an old Navy base that closed in the 90's.

It's sad to see closed bases. We have about 2-3 here and they turned it into low income housing. :(

65-70 hours a week for the entire time. Get a 2 week break at mid point.
 
I get the keys to the school gym that has the old Navy gym equipment. I'm use to working 10-12hr days and still get my work out in so yeah, won't be a problem!

I love it! I'm not jaded by love or a relationship. I just simply enjoy my own company right now. I'm alone but not lonely at all. :)
 
Man, I don't know how I did it. Motivation, I guess! I got to bed around 1 am and woke up around 5 to get ready for the gym. And... I feel awesome! :D I really enjoy running in the morning! :)

I was training and the owner, his wife, and client came up to me.

Owner: Hi ****!! (Omg, he remembers my name!)
Me: Hey!!!!
Owner: How are you this morning?
Me: I'm great and you?
Owner: I'm great! This is my wife and my client Ellen.
Me: Hey! Nice to meet you guys! :)
Owner: This girl right here is a monster!
Wife: Oh, the one with the legs?!
Me: Omg, lol, not me. Thank you!!

What a great way to start my morning! People are so awesome at my gym!!!!

I know exactly what you mean. Old gym closed down back in Oct and loved that place. Very friendly and always greeted you and said have a good day.
new place, ehh. A few of the members at the old gym just joined the one im at and we just spoke about this yesterday. This is one of the best attributes a gym can offer. not some bs smile shty when you walk in, but the eye contact and the feeling of really being welcomed is what keeps you coming back.
all because of this morning your whole attitude is that much better. More gyms need to do this-

Thank you! I sacrificed my drive and the early closing hours for a great family environment. From day one, they have been awesome to me! Yes, I feel pretty amazing and motivated to keep pushing forward!

Sad to hear about your gym. I hope you find a similar one soon! :)
 
Getting to know people at the gym can be cool. You can build friendships and encourage each other. Often times most think you want something from them, when in reality just a friendly gesture of acknowledgement, even if it's the opposite sex.
 
Subbed, for a new experience, didn't know that girls can lift more than dishes and stuff.
