is anyone else an egg maniac?

Now this doesn't apply to us, but it is a comparison, nonetheless..

Think dog food. Much like the FDA, that industry pushes products full of grains, things that a dogs digestive tract was not made to digest. All filler. There are so many brands of dog foods that contribute to illness in pets and working animals alike, that it is like the FDA trying to tell us that we should stick to 90 grams of protein a day, with 300+ grams of grains daily!

My dog was on a diet with moderate grains, and it turned out that he was getting less nutrients from the fats and proteins in the food, he lacked muscle tone, lacked energy and had irregular, frequent stools. He was switched to a grain free food that consisted of a higher fat and protein content, and the only starch (to hold the kibble together) was potato. There is also a variety of different green vegetables added for vitamins and minerals. I can now set my watch to when he goes to the bathroom, and his stool is more compact and solid, providing me evidence that more food is broken down and absorbed, and less is disposed as garbage.

Grains are cheap, provide ENERGY, but at what cost. I like oatmeal, I like bread yeah, and I eat it, but only to a certain extent. I am not constantly buying these products as a regular part of my diet because I know that if you compare our bodies to one of a hunter/gatherer, you would see that our society is unhealthy and obese.. And why? Because we have refined sugars, unneeded grains, and a plethera of unhealthy fats. But if a serving of whole grains gets us all pumped to go to the gym, then why not right? Carnivorous animals eat to replenish what they have lost during a day's travel, eating mostly animal protein and fat, and consuming whatever nutrients were found in the carcass (undigested plants, berries, etc)

Im not an advocate of any type of diet plan in particular but I do know that the human body does better with a lower amount of carbs coming from grains then the opposite. You have fruits and vegetables that provide fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants , animal protein and fats that retain muscle and provide healthy fats.. All which keeps you lean and mean ;)

WOW! LOL... nice to hear someone else has the same problem I do when shopping for dog food. I will be in the store for about an hour.. it is so hard to find a dog food that the first freaking ingredient isnt corn or grain. It is really frustrating especially when the label on the bag of food says things that lead you to believe it doesnt have grains in it :aargh:

FDA are a bunch of d-bags are nothing more than a marketing tool for the food industry. But hey I guess it only makes sense when our government is so invested in grains due to food subsidys. They made it so cheap for farmers to grow grains that it is only beneficial to them to create a food pyramid that tells people to eat a diet of so much grains.

I'm not a 100% perfect with my eating but I make an ongoing effort. Its hard when you have been programed to eat a certain way and have been eating that way for the past 25 years of your life. Right now I am doing a paleo approach to the anabolic diet and using potatoes, fruit, and quiona as carb refeeds and mainly eggs, fish and grass fed beef during the week as protein and fat intake.

I think that might be the one I have now... I used to go to petsmart here but on my last trip I went to tractor supply store and grabbed a bag there. Gonna go check on it now

I love eggs too. Eat them everyday in all different ways. I even mix chopped boiled eggs in my tuna tartare. I probably average only at about a half dozen a day.

Ok so we've established that egg yokes are good, whole grains are bad, and healthy dog food is hard to find, lol. Very informative tread.

You guys are like carb nazis.

For my goals, I need them. Not to excess, but it is a necessary part of my diet. Yours maybe not so much.

not at all. i eat plenty of carbs. fruits, lots of vegetables all day. for post workout glycogen replenishment i use red potatoes. they are alkalinik and contain no anti nutrients. carbs are a very necessary part of my diet as well, i train BJJ/muay thai up to 5 days a week and lift at least once a week. its all about the quality of the carb source. I realized after I switched to this way of eating that I got much leaner and stronger, seasonal allergies went away, i dont ever feel bloated after meals.

if you are on cycle it still doesnt matter. carbs dont put weight on, calories do. it is actually much easier to take in calories from fat because there are 9 calories per gram compared to 4 calories from protein or carbs. all we are saying is that grains have no place in a modern person's diet and are actually the cause of many health problems.

yo Josh I never got your facebook request. try looking for my email, [email protected]

also, you know a good place to get pasture eggs this time a year around our way?

No guys, don't get me wrong. I'm not advocating carb/grain ingestion. More so carb timing for me. 1 cup of oats in the a.m. with my eggs, 1 cup of brown rice with chicken for my preworkout meal and 1 more cup of oats for my post workout. Otherwise, I don't really consume carbs during the day. I've come to the conclusion that for me personally, if I don't have my diet precise then I gain weight easily. Meaning any excess of carbs or fat, then I'm putting on unwanted pounds.

And I don't think you can fairly say the FDA made us all eat grains. Bread has been around since the dawn of time. Way before the FDA.

yeah very true, grains/bread has allowed the world to become this overpopulated by providing an extremely cheap source of food. this actually came about during the agrocultural revolution around 10,000 years ago. For 400,000 years before that, the same human beings as us were exclusively hunters gatherers. cultivating grains was simply not an option worth considering. we relied on a diet of animal meat/fat and whatever else we could gather around. plants, since the birth of our planet have contained anti - nutrients to protect themselves from being eaten/not reproducing.

nutrient timing aside, why do you choose those particular types of carbs? they arent any more convenient than anything else. not bashing your diet, just want to see what your reasons are for choosing rice/oats.

Easy to prep/scoop/eat on the go.

Just about any bodybuilders diet is going to have much more grain carbs than mine does, most certainly yours. Why is this then?

my guess is all the extra glycogen you store as water? if you eat an excess of complex carbs your muscles will store water. helps them lift more weight, they feel huge, more water to shred when its contest time. im not sure im not that familiar with bodybuilding. with all these grains they probably gain weight faster because of blood sugar and insulin spikes, but this weight is also not lean and requires them to do a cut where they ditch almost all carbs.

the difference is, these guys dont care about their health. they juice all year around and will eat elephant $hit if it made them big. sure these guys know about nutrition and what how to grow, but im sure they can care less about anti-nutrients or omega 3 vs. omega 6 balance in food.

hey im not telling you whats right and wrong in your diet. im just a curious person and recently there has been a lot of information about grains. eat what feels best for you my brother

I always appreciate your input. I'm just trying to look a little deeper into it.

I usually eat 11 to 12 eggs a day monday through friday and about 6 on saturday and sunday. omlets, scrambled, hardboiled any which way. not only do i love eggs but i feel like a monster. am i the only egg fanatic on these boards??
Dude, I'm considering blowing $1k for a meal plan again this semester just so I can load up crazy on eggs again. Back when I had a meal plan at my school, I would eat anywhere between 8-10 eggs a day. Always at least 5 hardboiled, sometimes some fried, some as an omelet. Once this summer I ate 15, and boy was it a glorious day!

EGGS FOR THE WIN BABYYY just finished a dozen since this morning, half scrambled for bfast and another 6 with fruit as my 2nd meal

Since reading this thread the first time about a week ago I have upped my daily egg quotient to a dozen raw. Going to do a run of X-Factor Advanced so I'm looking for that extra boost in arachidonic acid.

i dont think arachidonic acid oxidizes from cooking so you probably can just cook them instead. i am not sure though

Yeah I recently learned about the cholesterol thing with a bad new diet I tried. Recovering from it now. Got fat for me too. Ive and learn.
Great post Judo Josh. I haven't had pasta since the 90's I think.
I'm not often into potatoes, but eat the red ones sometimes too and was wondering if the purple potatoes are good for you too.
Back to the eggs- has anyone ever made egg salad with olive tapenade?
I've heard of Paleo, but I don't think I've heard of CDK

what was the bad new diet? some kind of USDA food pyramid 10 servings of grains daily?

Anton how do you make your eggs?

Do you use cheese on your scrambled eggs?

Right Now how I make my eggs are:
scrambled with some combination of either onion, mushroom, green and red pepper. Looking for more variety. Any other veggies you use in your omelettes?

When I hard boil eggs I either make egg salad with mayo or make like devil eggs with mayo and mustard. Have you experimented with various spices on top of hard boiled eggs? I used to eat them plain with salt but got sick of them.. I have heardbof people putting other spices on hard boiled eggs like turmeric to add variety but I never tried it, have you?

I am about to up my egg intake to about 10 a day and trying to think of some options to keep my sanity. Thanks Anton

I add one egg to all my protein shakes - and I have about three of them throughout each day.

Then I have one snack of 4 boiled eggs about mid-morning and one snack of 4 boiled eggs mid afternoon. That's about 11 eggs a day and my wife is pissed she can't keep enough of them in stock in the fridge.

My cholesterol is normal too. I don't believe all that cholesterol theory anyways ... cholesterol is necessary for body repair and hormone generation. If stay in good shape - it won't hurt you.

I usually just scramble them in a ton of butter in the morning. at work i get hardboiled from the cafeteria. Sometimes I add tomatoes or steak from the night before. also i like to throw in some mash potatoes from last night into the eggs, my favorite combo. plus i eat bacon in the morning so it doesnt leave much room for veggies, i eat all my veggies in the afternoon/night.

my thing is that im a weirdo and i dont need variety. i can eat literally the same exact thing every single day. plain hardboiled eggs and fruit sounds like a feast to me lol

hey where do you train martial arts? my school just closed down and we are all going to Spa Fitness/advantage mma in pennsauken. they got a pool/sauna/gym, judo/boxing, our bjj teacher, climbing ropes, bags/pads. we were gonna go to liberty in turnersville but they werent giving my teacher a good deal.

AMEN brother. some people are actually starting to consider cholesterol an antioxidant

Judo I go to Vineland judo club and love it there!
Boxing, I just signed up at a gym in Vineland called TNT but have yet to attend so can't really comment on then
And that's about it for me.. There are some pretty decent places in the area though.. There is hassets, next gen MMA (I believe they are a team balance sister school) umm team EVO fight club recently merged with shark tank here in Vineland and is supposed to be a great MMA fight gym. I recently heard of a gym in Berlin that a guy I know swears by.. Richard almedia gym I think or something like that it's in Berlin. There is a Daddis school in cherry hill too.

If your trainer is looking for a job I know the boxing place TNT is tryna expand into the MMA realm and might be looking for a trainer.

Oh and FYI.. Do you know any judo throws? There is a small judo tournament in Philly Jan 16 if you were looking for something to get into.

yea ive heard/seen all those. nah my trainer is gonna go to the spa fitness place in pennsauken and we are all following him. vineland is a little too far for us.

sorry lol im a total judo newb, my grip is good from BJJ but i got no throws or techniques. i think the new school has a teacher so im gonna check it out.

you ever go to landmark in glassboro to watch the UFC? I live right next door and i usually catch the fights there

I was just going to add, btw - by 12:30 today, I've already polished off 18 eggs.

Yea for the same price as cocaine.... Check out wal mart, sams club and target. All sell for 3-4 dollars for 32oz. Just don't go to my target, I noticed the egg whites are selling faster ever since this topic started.

we should have an egg eating contest.. Must be a video contest, and all eggs must be eaten in one sitting...

LOL...

I could knock out 20.. LOL anyone up for this????

Freaking awesome idea.. I'm down to try but I never ate more than like 3 hard boiled eggs in one sitting. Gotta start my egg training.. Lol

I try to get 6 whole eggs in a day on top of my 32oz of whites :)

anything over 20 whites a day by themselves can cause a biotin deficiency because of one of the proteins in the whites. there are some articles about this if you can find

hard boiled is easy, a dozen scrambled would be a challenge

Any way is ok... Poached, basted, fried, boiled, scrambled, frittata, omelette..

Just gotta prove how many eggs you're using

and you gonna clean your plate

its the other way around for me. i could eat 20 scrambled, poached or fried...

but hard boiled i start to slow down at 5 or 6..

you could mix it up :)

It's hard for me to put down hard boiled eggs. Granted I could do 6 on top of 8 sausage links and cantaloupe, but if they were fried I could kill them. Scrambled eggs are simply too gross for me to eat, though.

bro, I eat like 10 cups of egg white a day. it's my base. thats equivalent to egg whites from 60 eggs. 60 eggs a day hahaha!!! but i've also gone from 155 to 220 lbs naturally in a lil over 2 years.

Seems like the easiest would be to knock them down raw in a protein shake. That would be my route of attack.

OK who really wants to do it?

Here would be the rules:

Whole eggs. You have to video all the eggs being broken, or obviously theyre there is theyre hard boiled. No liquid eggs because we are trying to do an accurate count. No liquid eggs in a shake.. Come on.. I could do a disgusting amount of eggs if I did that. It wouldn't be fair lol.....

I bet the winner will have some nasty gas tho! lol
