Going to be a swole recovery.... with Lean Gains

Good stuff Doug, The changes are still coming. Although I am enjoying my holiday weekend. Just eating as I want in my window even extended it an our or so today by starting early. It's okay it is all landing in the muscle. I am filling up like crazy. Probably be 205 by tomorrow. LOL Yesterday I weighed in the morning then took the progress pics then began eating like it was a holiday after my workout. LOL

So M1P seems to be doing the trick... when I start EPI-V I may actually have to increase my intake...

I would think so. You would probably get some awesome recomp from it. How soon are you starting? I'm interested in how it goes

Depends on when I am competing. I will be in prep so I will have to take care on how I take on calories... I am very lean already though (3 lbs down from my last pics).
 
Last nights workout was not stellar but I am pretty pleased with it overall, I changed to db press and leg press to perserve the joints now that I am much leaner...

Db press 100 X 5, 100 X 3, 95 X 5, 85 X 8, 75 X 12

Leg press 630 X 5 X 3, 590 X 8, 540 12

Tbar 225 X 5 X 3, 205 X 8, 180 X 12

Push press 155 X 3, 145 X 5 X 2, 125 X 8, 105 X 12

Wheel of death ....10 beautiful reps!! then 4 after 20 secnnds rest... I am becoming very good at these and that's what I set out to do. This really gets my 7th and 8th abs popping even know they aren't that visible I can feel the difference in size hours later...
 
Yah like I said the results are immediate and pretty drastic...

Decent workout last night, I had to back off on the bench press, I guess my shoulder is just not handling the strain. I will go to db's next week and from here on out.

Front squats were strong as were the rest of my lifts so it's just the shoulder...

Bar of death I did 7 and 4 not too bad...

Weighed in down 1.5 lbs this week so... 206.5 I estimate that I have lost about 3/4 of a percentage since the pics so all fat. I should be close to around 7% now..

Funny thing yesterday, I was in the lunch line and grabbed a pile of sausages and some sauerkraut and one of my co-workers who is into fitness says whoa!! that's a lot of fat!! I just said yah and I have lost 9 pounds in the last 4.5 weeks lol The sausages were planned...

7% sweet
 
Should make prep a hell of a lot easier considering how close you are now!

Yah I have another 2 to 3% to go and I am losing close to a percentage a week when in recomp... easy... it may not be necessary to make adjustments!! :banana:

Yah I said it cuz I look like I lost about another pound in the last 2 days!! I keep getting leaner and leaner and it's fuggin effortless!! Well the kind of effort I would usually have to put in anway...

Last night my son says to his friend "Look at him 50 years old with abs" I was in a completely relaxed state.

Oh and skin is tightening too.... So the quest of the elusive 8 pack continues but I am very optimistic...:banana:
 
Excellent, isn't it cool when someone mentions your abs while you are standing relaxed. I am still a percent behind you but once I hit 7 my abs will just be out like all the time.

Just hey do you need any laundry done? Use this washboard...

Hammered out last night, I know I was going to get a break for my holiday so I pushed very hard...

I decided to give my hamstrings a break as they were very sore from Monday. I added volume to calves and arms though and got the perfect amount of work in.

Bar of death was a bit of a wash cuz my abs were still very sore from my WOD 10 repper on monday. I finished off abs with some weighted exercises and was totally toated but pleased. I am feeling and looking a tad bigger the last couple of days too...

Weighed in at 205 down 1.5 from 6 days ago... I do feel I am a little bigger though so...

Final stats are as follows down 10 lbs total over five weeks and up about 1.5 lbs lean mass (just an estimate)... A lot of the loss was early on but it got pretty steady afterwards. I am sitting at just under 7% or maybe as high as 8% who really knows. If I was 8 in my last pics I would say I am down another 1.5%... so I think 7 is a safe bet.

On holidays I will start with a base of 2000 calories and add calories based on activity (I plan on doing some hiking). I will extend my daily fast till 4-5 pm and will try to fill up mostly on protein before a add any treats. Treats will consist of things like frozen yogurt or nuts. No sense in eating a pile of crap when I enjoy these things just as much. I may have to do a lot of guesstimating but I am not usually too far off and the extended fast should make up for errors in judgement.

I would think before a contest is when you would want it to be white. Let it draw attention to you then they see your physique either first or last. Either time being an impressionable one. Not to mention the shock and awe factor of being in that kind of shape and being older. I would work it as an advantage. The grey hair could make your level of musculature more impressive in the minds of those judging you and that is a definite benefit in my book.

I can not wait untill the next time I get sliced. Luckily I am not that far off as I am keeping lean. Getting bigger (higher body-fat) does allow more size and strength; however for a competitor it isn't the wisest choice because its hell to diet off and when your lean it makes it much easier.

Youve lost about 40 lbs since you started ?

Yah 42 lbs .. this diet has given me a way to remain in single digits year round if I want.

Man all of this lean bulking. Something I slipped into by allowing my appetite to carry me away. LOL Not complaining though. I am really big right now. I am bigger than I was during the Super-DMZ run I think. I started out bigger though by a little bit but I am pretty large now at 211 this morning all though after today I am thinking maybe more like 208.

I notice the same thing when I increase calories. I dont add fat rather I gain a little mass. This happened when for about 4-5 days my calories where a little out of control. Instead of adding fat...i continued to get leaner but noticed an increase LBM. Nothing HUGE but it was noticeable on the scale and in the mirror.
 
wow guys that sounds great...I am going to wait till I start training again then slowly start uping cals
 
Should be awesome and a quick rebound of muscle and fullness. Remember to come back in abut 10% lower in weight and take advantage of the growth you can achieve getting back up to where you were over a few workouts instead of going right back getting really sore once and missing growth ops.

Plan is already written to do just that. Going with a progressive warrior workout.

Yah it is, there is just no reason for me to burn out when I can get good results by just being progressive...

So like I said I am going to do a 5 week mini lean bulk to preempt my final run... I have some EPI-Strong to use and I will start that today at 30mg and finish finish the last 3 weeks at 45...

Diet wise is lean gains of course I will add 200 cals this week on training days then another 200 next week and another 200 after that till I am at 3400 and 2400 in 2 weeks when the anabolic effect is in full swing... protein will be between 350-375 on td's....

I am going to do a high rep warrior workout scheme... progressive like I said..I will start at about 70% ...

Right now I am between 6 and 7% body fat (have to weigh in I know I lost weight) , I don't expect that to change on lean gains. I do expect to add 6-8 lbs of lean mass though.

Yah guys not wasting any time .. couldn't wait to start so went to the gym today for a full body blast... I love being cut, I was heooge when pumped.. I detected just the right amount of awe and jealousy in the crowd...

I was doing higher reps and double drops so had to back off a bit on hammer curls and leg press but hammered out the rest...

Oh and 10 bar of death!! to match my 10 wheel o' death 10 day ago!! It was awesome!! Fug I feel good!!

Just got off the phone with Nathan and his wife my second place prize is on it's way, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support... whether you voted for me or not. Lots of support from fellow competitors, and people who voted for others ... I mean we have only one vote ... doesn't mean we don't have each others backs and I received a lot of this kind of support..

Thanks, I tried taking some pics but the combination of lighting, my bad posing and the wife's crap photography made them unusable. I could not see improvement from the last pics even know I know there has been significant changes. We will have to figure out the lighting thing...
 
If you have it I find that fluorescent lighting overhead and slightly in front of me seems to be the best for displaying the definition for me. No flash or you will fill all the lines in with light, you need the shadows to show the terrain of the musculature.

I understand you completely on that. Its hard to get pics just right. Lighting, angle, depth, and focus can make you look like a beast or a wannabeast.
