Legend
There has been an alarming rate of posting behaviors that are really not the type of behaviors that we want perpetuated by our AM community. These are in no particular order and they are directed at no one specifically and everyone in general.

Homophobic comments: fag, homo, queer and any other derogatory term used to negatively identify someone as one of a homosexual orientation. I hate to break it to some of our membership, but we have a very diverse world and therefore a very diverse community. There is a statistical amount of those who have a homosexual orientation (those that are 'out' and likely more who are not) in our world and therefore I am sure that statistic is reflected to a degree in our community. Bodybuilding, weightlifting, supplements and all that it entails is not exclusive to heterosexuals. This needs to stop now.

Thread hijacking and O/T discussion: there has been a tremendous amount of O/T comments and thread hijacking taking place. In some cases that is all a member contributes to a thread, or the board for that matter. As a community we encourage research. This barrage of hijacking and O/T comments dilutes the quality and content of valuable thread data that could be used for research. If you feel an uncontrollable need to express yourself in an off topic way then please do so using the Invalid Link Removed function or Invalid Link Removed. Far too many members post worthless comments when they could and should not post at all. Not everyones threads are for your banter. Any member who feels that an other member is hijacking their thread or taking it O/T is encouraged to communicate so in your thread directly to the offending posting member.

Excessive use of emoticons: the above applies to this as well. Quite honestly it is childish but that is just me, and really, some of you are young enough to be my children. Tasteful or modest use of the feature is of course acceptable. When a member posts 20 or more large and obnoxious emoticons that takes up excessive amounts of thread space it dilutes the value and the content of a thread. This also applies to excessively large images as well.

Please understand that I am not trying to take anyones fun or good time away. But there is a time and a place for it. There is a general discussion forum that can be used for this purpose. Keep it there and out of sponsor, supplement and other specific forums as well as other member threads and logs.

Also understand that I am also a member of the AM community. I pride myself in the integrity and quality of the content in our community. As an active member of the community and a member of the staff it is my intention to uphold that standard. The staff cannot do this alone. It is my hope that you will too.

Thanks you for understanding and for your support.

Thanks B for getting this out, If I weren't so lazy I would have posted the same thing.

Im tired of the homo talk, pictures and emoticons that is in a majority of a newly IBE rep on this site. Its very childish.

coming from a guy with a signature of an emoticon giving the finger, that's a bit rich don't you think?

Take it for what you want. I was refering to homo talk, homo pictures and homo emoticons (not found on this site like the one in my signature) in excess.

So does this fall under "Homophobic Comments" or "Excessive Use of Emoticons"?

*whew* good thing i dont do any of those!!!!.................................................i will keep my bantering to my thread......i dont think i hijack too bad....do i?....i support people's theads in a non-dramatic way sometimes.....

some of you are young enough to be my children.

Do you mean "young enough" in character / behavior, or actual age, and if actual age, what does that have to do with anything. I agree with your initial post, I think it raises several good points, and applaud you for taking the initiative to bring it up, in what you felt was in the best interest of a web community you love. I'm not trying to nitpick here, I just would like to know what you meant by that, because (and I am *not* saying this is what you meant by it) it is possible for there to be age discrimination as well...

Regardless, thanks for raising the issues!

I think you reading a little to deep.
This a great thread. I think the root of the problem is that a lot of us here just get a little too comfortable and forget that there are some that just come here to read.

Good post.

great post B!

i always thought this site was great for my research needs etc and ive become fond of the people of this community. AM always had a non homosexual offending stance and off topic stuff was saved for general chat threads that were made for that reason. Things have changed over the last 4-6 months imo and alot of things just get out of hand. Members like myself who know better even fall into the guilty catergory. Its fun and all and a better reason for us to use the chatroom that never gets any play. Ive said it before it just makes it harder to find the information you are looking for when you have to go thru page after page of off topic discussion. I should be a mod haha. Does this mean youll be handing out bans for those things?

And whom might that be Ronnie? We are all adults here, you know as well as I that meaningful dialogue is welcome between adults. It's a better way to talk and discuss things if you have problems with certain members of our community.

I would absolutely love to see some links to these offensive posts / homo talk / pictures and emoticons..... If anyone ever sees a post of mine that is A) Offensive to gay people B) Too many emoticons or C) A major hijack please feel free to either PM me about it / report it to a mod or talk to a mod about it. I would rather discuss these issues than let them continue unnecessarily.

Feel free to PM me in regards to any of my posts etc.

Much Love,

Neoborn

I found the emoticon part of the post pretty damn funny.

I don't remember seeing posts with lots of emoticons - but B's wording is hilarious. :toofunny:

neo, your product review thread in the nutra planet section is one of the best and most positive threads on this board, it's one that has grown and continues to gain momentum and does a great service to an awesome board sponser

The "young enough to be my kids" is implying that I may be too old to appreciate the way the 'youth' of today communicate.

I don't text, myspace, facebook, iPod or any of the more current trends of techno-communication. I feel that emoticons may be in that same era of communication tools that I do not partake in.

But we can still be BFF...right?

As I said, there is no one in particular that I am directing this to. I am directing it to everyone in general.

No, no, there is no 'appreciating' how a lot of youth communicate these days. haha

Remember that episode of The Outer Limits when that guy woke up the next day and all the words had different meanings?

Thank you very much B, you're sentiments exactly echo my own. I've seen this site degrade from a well thought out discussion forum, from which I could learn a pile of useful information, to more of a social networking/product hype forum. While I don't see a return to the "good old days", the inane bantering of a huge portion of the threads makes garnering any useful information next to impossible, due to the huge amount of garbage that must be sorted through.

I have to be honest, this is the item that poses the biggest problem to me. Due to the excessive extra posting and the added time consumption to find useful information, I have been fairly absent from the board lately (my last message post was 08/21). I blame the faulted Rep system for this, and those that abuse it. Users write meaningless posts, usually to be funny or assinine, and get repped for it rather that getting repped for posting good information... I had to find better ways to spend my time.

Sorry, I needed to get that out.

well then make a good post and maybe somewill rep you, instead of bashing what others do and blaming the so called rep system....wtf dude???

I think people need to keep in mind that not only is this a place that you can go for information, its also an extended family. We go to let loose and have a break from the seriousness of life. We build trust bonds with people and then when we need advice on something then your not just another faceless person. The advice you get is based on people caring about you and wanting to REALLY help you.

True, but then I think that means we need more extended forums than just "general chat", or maybe we just need to use that more.

I wonder too whether OT conversations that are still bodybuilding related should stay in. For instance, in a thread about epistane's sermlike properties, I know I hijacked slightly for a bit about resveratrols sermlike properties + bioavailability. That seems ok to me, but derailing Mace's log to talk about xbox 360 like I did today probably isn't. :):run:

Thank-you crader,I wish more people could see it that way. You have given out too much Reputation in the last 24 hours, try again later.

I don't think he is asking to be repped. I believe that the repping system has increased worthless posts and banter that is then rewarded by fellow banters with reps. I promise you that your rep count is not at all indicative of valuable informational posts.

I am possibly the best example of that :D ;)

Trip -- I truly enjoy the vast majority of your posts, and I consider you to be a valuable asset to this "community." But your overly-defensive reply to an excellent point made by Mass69 suggests that you may have fallen victim to this whole video-game mentality rep-point silliness. (Is it addictive?)
I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing the whole rep-point portion of this board eliminated. Just let each post stand on it's own merit, regardless of the "reputation" of the poster. (Everyone here already knows who they trust for good advice.) This would undoubtedly reduce the number of meaningless posts that obscure the useful information contained herein.
At least give us the option of refusing rep-points. (Let me be the first to volunteer for this -- give my measly 850,000 pts to Trip, if he wants them.)
This is one of my favorite quotes, by Harry S.Truman, the 33rd President of the United States [J2x, schooling the youngsters]:
“It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.”

I would agree that this place can be an outlet and an extended family. This board has a Chat Room, an AmSpace and a General Forum that can and should be used for that purpose among other non-supplement and training issues.

While I agree with the social aspects of member commradery and bonding it should not be the dominant aspect of this supplement and bodybuilding message board. If it is contained within those commrades threads and logs it is one thing, but it is an other thing when those same commrades take up their socializing and bonding in an other members thread.

The supplement forum is sponsored by NP and the individual sponsor forums are sponsored by their respective sponsor. This is their business and it is their serious life.

I knew before I ever became an official registered member. I don't know how long I actually lurked reading until 1am sometimes.

hahhh---somebody repped me for saying I didn't wanna be repped, lol.
I also don't want ya'll sending me your money, or your sisters...
[Is this "hijacking?" If so, I'm pro-hijacking (but still anti-repping).]

The problem with chat is that the people you want to chat with are not always on at the same time.

As well as the fact that I judge some of how and who I do business with by their online morals and attitude. After enough time on the board you see true personality shine through. By getting to know people and their logs you get a feel for who to have log samples for you..who is going to follow through. How many people read their log, are they honest..etc

That's true.. even on large forums like this, it may take time, but VERY true.. on my home forum, theres an average of 12 people online at one time.. and it's seriously like a family.. on the forum I helped build theres even fewer, so that family is more close knit.. people helping people is a big thing.. it gets hard to help people who ridicule your family, or that aren't willing to laugh and have a good time.. it's like that scary kid who shows up the family reuinion and doesnt eat, doesnt talk to anybody, just sits there and scares people.. Err.. got off point, my point being this: I agree with the original post, and am at fault BIG TIME, I do however feel that the time/place for it thing is true, but communication makes the whole 'family' stronger, it's hard to NOT communicate in threads when someone brings something up, PM'ing only makes it harder at times.

chat doesn't work at all on windows vista:) I meant the general chat forum, not the chat application. I admit I often use a thread as a chat tool

Wow, I had this long reply I was working on to better explain my viewpoint, but had to got to a meeting, and came back to others posting in defence for me that understood what I was saying. Thanks guys!

Trip, while we all like to have fun here, with this place has my home board for the past 3 years, I just don't want to see it got the way of BB.com. I like to have fun & joke too, but if you look through my posts, they're more informational than not.

YEA GUYS. this especially goes for whatever homophobic little ****head thats been asking people to call chad a homosexual in his reputation comments.

so childish. psht

As I'm part owner of RPN its my serious life also.
I realize that. I guess someone finally got you green :)

This further attests to my point. Taking member threads and or logs way off topic with banter, homophobic comments and otherwise worthless contribution makes these logs unbearable to read for some members, myself included. I would imagine that as a rep, providing product to a tester to journal, you would like to see it be informative, professional and conducive to a valuable and worthy representation of your product, less the banter, hijacking and homophobic comments. Or is it just me?

Yet, your previous statements suggest that you like or encourage socialization and extended family activities and discussion on the board.

Now I am confused as to you view on thread/log hijacking and the likes. Care to help me understand your point?

~Kwicky,i have yet to see you make ONE post about anything constructive, regarding bodybuilding or supplements whatsoever....your sarcastic replies have NO purpose on this board at all!!....grow up
