Because excuses to get fatter and eat even more foods, of course - can’t go up weightclasses any other way
This is starting to sound more and more fun... Oh wait I think it is the foods... ;)

Yes definitely!!!!

Really only one really good way to get better at that type of thing. It probably won't be doing the katas as you mentioned, although that would still be beneficial and help with balance. The best way to get that real world strength is by picking up odd or unbalanced / cumbersome objects from different angles and moving them from place to place. Shouldering sandbags, walking with a slosh pipe, lifting with uneven weight distribution on the bar basically getting yourself stronger when not in proper angles, positioning and what not. Those will get all those stabilizers back in check and that is where you get a lot of your functional strength from is strong stabilizers from any angle.
That sounds like work lol

*Sigh*. I don't know if I should comment or not because, lately, I don't have time for our epic discussions. A part of me likes this approach that @MrKleen73 mentions and I am not disagreeing.

I would point out another path though. The reason you are hurting when lifting in real life and not in the gym is more basic than that even - in the gym you have practiced good form and move in a fixed and trained pattern. In real life, you are abandoning this.

Now...of course, one really great way to fix that is to do exactly what MrKleen73 says above. The benefit of this is that your stabilizer muscles get stronger, but also that your brain will learn to handle loads in non-usual patterns.

Another factor is to stop thinking, "I can deadlift 400 pounds so picking up this 25 pound bag of crap doesn't require any thought." We all do this. I mean, who is going to get into proper squatting or deadlifting form to pick up a 25 pound block of cement? But if you do that 20-30 times and you whip that junk around; it's going to hurt you. It doesn't really take ANY weight to hurt you. It just takes improper movement to hurt you.

Of course, if you have some kind of dysfunction, this leads to improper movement as well. And that's where the Yoga can help, and also MrKleen's suggestion. As you can see, I agree with Kleen (reluctantly just because it's not as fun) - his method will help with a bunch of the potential underlying problems. I am just adding an angle...helpful or not...you decide.

My workouts center now around low weights and zillion reps for a few days, just to switch things.

Guess what: ELROW is in town!

AND I have a invitation to a after party in a private mansion. That means:

15-20 hours cardio for me and my wife!

I wanna know how many head twists he managed in 3 minutes. Start looking over right shoulder, twist to look over left then back is one rep. Arms have to be flapping like wings.

I survived, barely. At the end it was only 10 hours dancing.
One has to be careful when taking "X" and socializing, you may end up swinging with another couple.
Some neurons of my brain were still firing, avoiding fateful decisions.

Years back, as a fledgling mechanic on the night shift, I was taking a bathroom break when one of the older guys glances across from a couple urinals away and says to me as we’re pissing, “Remember skippy, pretty girls have diseases too.”

I had a lot of great teachers 🤣

To share:

I decided to take training to the next level. Going full in.
Now:
-twice a day am/pm
-4-5 times a week
-am: cardio, boxing, stretching and injury prevention
-pm: weights, now starting progressive overload with training journal, will be a HGP version of it

Change in diet: IF 21/3 to IF 19/5

I know guys that are in their 30’s would kill for a body like yours. Real talk
Enough, no more compliments. Compliments make me think I don't need to train twice a day -but I do!

Well, did the AM workout for the first time -and slowly tested the waters. 20 min bicycle and 4 rotator cuff exercises. Gym was full of women in sweat pants:

All of the above were there.

Yesterday at p.m. was deadlift, weighted pull ups, lat pull down, lat press down, rear delt db rises.

Today a.m. will be cardio and stretches. Asked the owner to hang up a heavy bag for me, hopefully he keeps his word.

Just wanted to drop in a crazy concept for us older guys....
Less is more. I know youre going all beast mode. I'm training less, eating less and look better. It makes no sense. The most I can make of it, is it's less stress on my body and it's responding to a good maintenance style approach. I know it's not what you wanna hear but just wanted to drop something in your ear. We're all on a quest to reach our goals ;)

You a killer for sure HGP. The heart of a lion and the wisdom of a sage.

Thank you for watching out!
I agree. We need way more rest to recover. The AM training is all cardio and some injury prevention. Now that I do progressive overload, I keep it to 2 sets of each exercise, not going high volume. The moment strength -or stamina stalls, I'll cut the training to 3 days a week.

Props on the cardio... I like progressive overload. I ran the phat program at the beginning of the year and put on some good numbers to all my lifts. Deload weeks are critical. It's good to see you turned up a notch! Dont always comment but I'm low key keeping up...

Some impressive weighted pull ups there. Were those done as a string of singles like mentioned before?

Yes, 1-1.5 sec between reps, accommodating grip and halt swing. Goal is to do at least 4 reps with 110lbs at the end of it.
